Jose Luis Borioli Puerto Vallarta’s Director of Tourism
WWW.GAYPV.MX
The current Puerto Vallarta administration is investing $10 Million into remodeling the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta. The downtown area, the gay romantic zone, is what makes Vallarta the vibrant alive city it is and this administration wishes to set a precedent for other administrations to follow and keep Puerto Vallarta the beautiful, unique Mexican town it is. The remodeling plans include construction of a new pier, sidewalk expansion, remodeling the facades of some properties, and burying overhead cables. The expanded sidewalks encourage more pedestrian traffic where you can walk very safe in the day and late night, with more lighting and with more trees.
10
In a GAY PV exclusive interview with Ing. José Luis Borioli, Director of Tourism, he stated that this administration respects the rights of everybody and recognizes the impact of GLBT tourism to Puerto Vallarta. The fact that PV is hosting the first international GLBT EXPO in November shows the potential of the businesses dedicated to the gay tourist segment. It also shows there is tremendous business opportunity for gay business in Puerto Vallarta. This is good for the city because it provides jobs, taxes, and gay tourists who come to Puerto Vallarta. The gay community itself is doing a great job of promoting Vallarta as a gay tourist destination. The word of mouth, social media, and internet communication, very strong components of the gay community, has been a basis for how Puerto Vallarta has grown as a internationally recognized GLBT destination according to Borioli. The municipal authority is here to provide security and to make sure Puerto Vallarta stays beautiful and lovely for all tourists, including the GLBT ones. He stated it is important to have recognition from the municipality of the work being done to promote Puerto Vallarta as a gay destination and in the future some GLBT joint marking ef-
forts could occur once the gay business become more organized via a GLBT chamber of commerce. Puerto Vallarta has many attractions to offer the GLBT tourist besides great bars and clubs: (i) the weather; (ii) we are a little Mexican Town and you are coming to a unique Mexican place (Vallarta provides that which Cancún and Cabo cannot); (iii) Puerto Vallarta is a beach destination with mountains providing natural protection from hurricanes, boating, super-sailing and jungle adventure activities; (iv) a great gourmet selection for all pockets; and (v) the local people used to gay people and respect them. If you try to find all these things in one place, it would be very difficult to find another one in the world like Puerto Vallarta. We discussed Gay Marriage with Ing. Borioli. He said this is a very difficult issue, even among gay people. to obtain a consensus of opinion. He indicated the focus should be that the gay community has an option in Mexico now, Mexico City, to get legally married. You can go to Mexico City get married and come back to Puerto Vallarta, just as in the US. Although the Catholic Church does not recognize any wedding outside the church, ie beach weddings, Puerto Vallarta is a great destination to have a ceremony after the real wedding. Our last topic of discussion was the tourist and the police. Police harassment should never occur. If it does, the administration encourages one to come to the tourist office and file a non-legal report. All reports are monitored and there is communication with the US Consulate, the Mayor and the Police Chief. If a gay tourist feels civil rights have been violated, then the visitor is encouraged to file an official police report. Full interview online at gaypv.mx

15
LALO MORALES owner forsakes Freddy Krueger for Frida Kahlo By John McCloud For the first several years he lived here, Mark Edward Patton kept his past life as a serial killer secret from the customers who came into Lalo Morales, his Mexican crafts shop on Basilio Badillo. Patton, who owns the business with his partner Hector Morales (Lalo is the Spanish nickname for Edward), figured the notoriety would attract too much attention. He also didn't talk about the unconsummated gay love affair with an even more monstrous killer that lay behind his gruesome murder spree.
The movie came out in 1985, and except for a documentary made in 2010 to promote the remake of the original “Nightmare on Elm Street,” Patton hasn't performed professionally since a guest role on the “Hotel” TV series in 1986. But time has only increased his celebrity. “Fame is forever,” he comments during a conversation in his shop
WWW.GAYPV.MX
But you can't keep secrets for long in Puerto Vallarta, and eventually Patton had to own up: Yes, he was Jesse Walsh, the hunky teenager who was possessed – and caressed – by razor-gloved Freddy Krueger in “Nightmare on Elm Street 2.” Performing as Mark Patton, he also played alongside Cher, Karen Black and Kathy Bates in the Robert Altman film “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean,” but it was his role in the homoerotic Nightmare 2 that has made him a mainstay at horror conventions throughout the world and earned him a large and devoted fan base.

on the ground floor of Posada de Roger. “Your career may end, but you're never forgotten.” It was partly the inevitability of disclosure that prompted him to start opening up about his movie work after several years of local anonymity. He moved here in the late '90s and worked as an interior designer before meeting Hector and opening the shop in 2007. But the bigger factor was his growing realization that he could make a difference in the lives of young gay men. “I get letters and Facebook comments from guys who say Jesse was the first time they ever saw someone on screen they could identify with,” he reveals. “Even today there are young kids in places where gay life is totally forbidden who see the movie on TV and write to me. It means a lot to them. The fact I'm openly gay makes them care even more.”
Patton travels to about a dozen fan conventions every year. In late summer he was scheduled to appear at shows in the U.K., France, Germany and several other European countries. Most of the money he makes from his tours he donates to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization for crisis intervention among young people with sexual identity issues.
30
Patton's other concern is nurturing Mexican craftspeople. “Hector and I made a decision that everything in the shop would be made in Mexico by Mexicans, who would be paid fairly for their work,” he states. “We're cheaper than many of the other shops, but everything is very high quality. We're a for-profit business, but we want to help people, not exploit them.” John McCloud has been a professional free-lance journalist for more than 30 years. entrevista
‘

RAUL DURAN’s
HEALTHY BODY For those that know me, in the last few months, I have dramatically changed my body. As the owner of RK Supplement, one of my goals was to sell great products at reasonable prices to the gay community. I wanted to make sure that the products that I was selling work. Well, they do!!! One of the most important building blocks is protein. A problem with the traditional Mexican diet, although delicious, is that it is high in carbohydrates. If you think of a fire, a carbohydrate is the gas that burns the wood. The wood is the protein. What carbohydrates you don’t use are stored as fat. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat at least three meals a day high in protein. They say five meals a day is the best. Having more protein in your system causes the body to use the stored fat to burn the protein. By having regular meals high in protein, it also keeps your body from going into starvation mode. The body has a natural system that if it thinks there is not enough food, it will store more fat. This is why many people gain weight back fast after a starvation diet. It’s odd, but by eating more protein you can lose weight.

Most people want to lose weight and gain muscle. I recommend a protein powder with no carbohydrates if you want to lose weight. The shakes will give you the increased protein your body will need to start burning the extra fat. Cutting out breads and soda can also quietly help your body to go into a burn mode.

Of course, exercise is also important. Having realistic short term goals also will help. I once heard it said the hardest part of training is getting to the gym. Sometimes I’ll tell myself “I’m just going to go but I won’t workout” or “I’ll just do one set with low weight.’ Anything to get myself there. I know once I go and just start I’ll keep going. My ex-boyfriend stood naked in front of the bedroom mirror one morning. He said, “I look terrible. I’m old and fat and ugly. Please pay me a compliment, Turleen.” After thinking for a second I replied, “your eyesight is perfect”. Dear Turleen: If I have sex more often with men than women am I gay, bi or just curious? - Maximiliano Yes, you are gay. You're only having sex with women so you can tell your mother. Come clean and fess up. You’re gay. Big time. I know, because we’ve slept together. Dear Turleen: We have been together for five years. Should I tell my boyfriend I am cheating on him? -Michael If you are cheating on your boyfriend then you no longer HAVE a boyfriend, you have a room-mate. Dear Turleen: My boyfriend does not want sex often anymore. I have to beg for it. Do you think he does not love me anymore? What should I do? -Aching in Albuquerque

If your boyfriend does not want to have sex with you then it is your fault, not his. I am sure he still loves you but men love a challenge. If he's not giving it to you and it's important to you, then move on. Come to my show at The Palm in December and I am sure you will find someone.
