id Goodman, local Puerto Vallarta resident has authored a children’s workbook entitled “BULLYING, Why would you want to do that?” He has also established a new 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Foundation to Prevent Bullying, Inc. with a goal to provide, at little to no cost, millions of the award winning children’s
Youth suicide rates are something you don’t hear much about. The CDC reports that there are about 4,400 suicide deaths annually among young people, and for every suicide there are 100 attempted suicides. Bullying plays a major role (up to 50%) in these attempts according to a recent study. ABC News reported that nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and over 150,000 kids may stay home every day due to fear of being bullied. New long-term study shows why bullying is a public health problem.

Fundraisers at La Noche and CC Slaughter’s for
Jibram Saco RIP July 8, 2015
A very emotional Saturday night July 11, 2015 as hundreds of friends of Jibram Saco turned out at La Noche and CC Slaughter’s. Jibram was tragically killed this week by an unknown vehicle and driver. He was a member of skinnyboysmx, primary Go Go dancer at La Noche and CC Slaughter’s and one of Ron Morgan’s kitchenettes. All the go go dancer’s from La Noche were emotionally moved as Jibram’s memories were ever so present. CC Slaughter’s had video memories of Jibram on their screen. Una noche muy emotiva se vivió el sábado 11 julio, 2015, cuando cientos de amigos de Jibram Saco se reunieron en La Noche y CC Slaughters. Jibram murió trágicamente esta semana por un vehículo y conductor desconocidos. Él era un miembro de skinnyboysmx, Go Go dancer en La Noche y CC Slaughters y uno de los modelos de la cocina de Ron Morgan. Todos los bailarines de La Noche fueron tocados emocionalmente en forma de los recuerdos de Jibram que estarán siempre presentes. ZONA ROMANTICA THE GAYBORHOOD OF PUERTO VALLARTA MEXICO

ay neighborhoods, also called “gayborhoods” like the Castro District in San Francisco, New York’s Greenwich Village, and Boystown in Chicago have long provided the LGBT community safe havens in which to live and thrive. The Romantic Zone or, “the Zona Romantica” in Puerto Vallarta Mexico has all the characteristics of the major US gayborhoods. What are the characteristics of a gayhorhood? They have a distinct geographic focal point. the residents have a unique culture, the LGBT community sets the tone of the neighborhood (seen by the rainbow flag and the pride parade) and the LGBT community has a cluster of commerical spaces there. . Let’s explore the zone and discover the features of Puerto Vallarta’s gayborhood. The daytime focal point is the gay beach in front of Blue Chairs and Mantamar Beach Club and at night shifts to the corner of Lazaro Cardenas and Ignacio Vallarta where La Noche, CC Slaughter’s and Spartacus Spa are located. The gay activities and established nightlife of Puerto Vallarta rival that of much larger international gay destinations. The LGBT community certainly set the tone inside the Zona Romantica. Many businesses display and fly the rainbow flag and the annual Vallarta Pride festival is centered inside the zone. The LGBT community sets the tone via ACT LGBT business association (www.actlgbt.org) and many LGBT members of the Amapas Neighborhood Association where the gay beach is located. ACT LGBT and the neighborhood association are involved in many community improvements and initiatives like Taxi Safe (www.taxisafepv.com) and Pulpito Plaza Project. The zone houses a large cluster of gay businesses
like the many gay owned hotels, restaurants, and clothing shops. Many of the LGBT community live in the zone as well. Home prices in almost all of the US gayborhoods are more expensive than their metros as a whole. For example, homes in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco cost $948 per square foot – which is 34% more expensive than the San Francisco metro area ($705 per square foot), while places like West Hollywood, CA and Provincetown, MA are 123%
and 119% more expensive, respectively. (Source www.trulia.com/trends/2015/06/ gayborhood-watch) This is certainly the case in Puerto Vallarta. The romantic zone has some of the area’s most affluent real estate developments like V177 and Conchas Chinas by HEVA and unfortunately the highest rent prices per square meter. Puerto Vallarta indeed has its own gayborhood. The romantic zone has recently become a new gay mecca with improvements and modernization attracting LGBT travelers worldwide. Experience the new romantic zone a perfect expample of a modern day gayborhood in Mexico. 29

Mexico’s Supreme Court clerk Geraldina Gonzalez de la Vega has indicated the Mexican Supreme Court on Wednesday June 3, 2015 ruled laws prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying in any state in Mexico are unconstitutional. The official statement by the Court is expected this week, as is their custom. According to this ruling the federal law stating the goal of marriage is procreation and/or defines marriage as celebrating the union of a man and a woman is unconstitutional. This ruling was in response to a case in Colima. Unlike the United States where a single marriage rulings applies broadly to all citizens, individual couples in Mexico get an amparo which relates specifically to their case. Five is a magic number in the Mexican legal system. When five amparos have been issued in a state, precedent is then established and marriage equality is achieved. The Supreme Court has now ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry under the Mexican constitution in 5 states. Along with previous rulings from Oaxa-

MARRIAGE EQUALITY ca, Baja California, Sinaloa, and the State of México, the Colima ruling forms a new “generic jurisprudence” binding on judges. This ruling does not bind state registrars as registrars still have some discretion. Therefore same sex marriage is not binding throughout Mexico yet. However, judges can order the registrars to do their job, as has already been done in several states, including Baja California. So far these jurisdictions in Mexico have marriage equality: Federal District, Coahuila, and Quintana Roo. These jurisdictions have had their marriage bans stricken by Mexico’s Supreme Court, and now must comply with marriage equality: Oaxaca, Baja California, Sinaloa, State of México, and Colima.

The Flower Girls of Flowers To Go! Gerardo Lugo, owner and manager of Flowers To Go, with the help of some of his best friends, The DHH (Desperate Househusbands of Puerto Vallarta) started getting together for some very fun lunches four years ago. Champagne is always the rule at these get-togethers! At one lunch two years ago, they decided to all go in drag to a large celebratiory party for 10 gay coupleswho were married in 2013. Eric, a member of the DHH, and his husband Ken were a part of the celebration. Eric went as the bride, and the others of the DHH were bridesmaids. They were fabulous! Time past, as well as more lunches and much more champagne! They went as “The Daisy Ladies” at another fun party in 2014, and then as ”The Flower Girls” in 2015. The DHH really wanted to get full useout of their gorgeous outfits, so it was decided to do a floral float representing Flowers To Go for Gay Pride 2015. One of their members flew back to Vallarta just for the event! The float won the best decorated car in the parade. Champagne es siempre la regla en estas reuniones! Hace 2 años, en una de estas reuniones, decidieron ir en drag a una boda donde 10 parejas gay contrajeron matrimonio, en 2013. Eric, miembre de los DHH, y su esposo Ken, fueron parte de esta celebración. Erik fue como la novia, y los demas DHH fueron como sus damas de compañía. Estuvieron fabulosas! El tiempo ha pasado, asi como mas reuniones y mas champagne. En 2014 fueron como las “Daisy Ladies” a otra divertida fiesta, y en este 2015 como las “Flower Girls”. Los DHH realmente querian sacarle partido a sus maravillosos vestuarios, asi que decidieron decorar un carro alegórico representando a Flowers to Go para el Gay Pride 2015. Uno de sus miembros voló de regreso a PV solo para el evento! Y la pandilla ganó el premio al carro mejor decorado del desfile!

MODELS DISCUSS VALLARTA PRIDE 2015
Vallarta Pride 2015 was a great success. Here is what Andrew Christian, the models, and the PV Tourism Board say about PV as a gay destination and Pride 2015. Many were here for the very first time. Topher Dimaggio This was my first time in Puerto Vallarta. The place is truly unique. We were welcomed by all the locals gay or straight. Everyone was genuine and real. Of course they have great weather, boys and parties. But I felt very safe and taken care of in PV. The gay scene was amazing, being able to walk everywhere. There are a great variety of bars and music. The local gay guys are very happy to see the tourists. Vallarta Pride was very well thrown and organized. Plenty of parties, boat cruises, and events for every person... No down time to get bored and TEQUILA everywhere!.

Andrew Christian Describe Puerto Vallarta as a gay destination. I couldn’t think of a more perfect gay vacation destination. Puerto Vallarta has it all, great beaches, restaurants and a hustling night life. What about the gay scene here in PV. Puerto Vallarta has a very dynamic gay scene. I have never seen so many varied types of gay bars in one city. There is something for everyone. Describe the gay pride week in Vallarta. The best thing about visiting Puerto Vallarta are the people. Everyone is so welcoming and hospitable. Truly one of the most special places in the world.
Cheddy O Describe Puerto Vallarta as a Gay destination. Puerto Vallarta by far is the best place to escape. I’ve been all over the United States, Africa, and Jamaica. Puerto Vallarta is amazing for gays mainly because there gay is just a way of life. It was a perfect place to escape. What about the gay scene in PV. The gay scene is wild! No matter the night PV’s gay scene didn’t disappoint. From sexy gogo’s to the strongest drinks ever, it was awesome!Describe Vallarta Pride WeekVallarta’s pride was very different from the prides in the US because there was a sense of unity and togetherness. In the states pride is just one glorified circuit party that segregates us rather than bringing us together. PV pride was a really everyone coming together no matter what.
The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board was happy to participate in this year’s Vallarta Pride by bringing a 12 person media delegation from the US, Canada and Mexico to cover the event specifically and Puerto Vallarta’s LGBT offering. We also purchased airline tickets for VIP visitors and look testimonials of key participants including Grand Marshals Morgana Love and Andrew Christian. What would you like to see for future LGBT events in our city? We would like to see events in Puerto Vallarta continue to position themselves at an international scale and attract visitors from all of our markets. Vallarta Pride is definitely doing that, we are asked about the event at every city we visit.
The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and Latitude, the official media agency, responded with these comments about Vallarta Pride 2015. What has been the economic impact of Vallarta Pride 2015? Puerto Vallarta has seen an increase in room occupancy during the week of Vallarta Pride with 26,144 rooms occupied in 2013; 47,668 in 2014 and 48,873 in 2015. International visitors to the destination have also increased with 6,160 coming to Puerto Vallarta in 2013, 6,352 in 2014 and 8,791 in 2015. Although we can’t say those visitors were all here for Vallarta Pride, the numbers do show there is an increase interest in the destination during that week, which this year also coincided with Memorial Day in the United States. What was the OCV’s direct and indirect involvement with the event?
What was the comments from the press core who attended? I know this was the largest press core attending any event in Puerto Vallarta history. The press group, which was the biggest media delegation we have brought to Vallarta Pride so far, was very happy and impressed with Vallarta Pride and Puerto Vallarta. Most of them had registered to join us for the visit more than a year ago and I know we did not let them down. 51

irst of all, congratulations on your tenth studio album ‘SEX AND LOVE’. Already 3 number one singles on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, and you’re following it up with a tour which brings you here to Mexico for a large part of this month (May 2015). This is your birthday month so Happy Birthday Enrique!
You were in Puerto Vallarta in 2010 with Alejandro Fernandez with a concert on the Malecón. Tell us how you feel about Puerto Vallarta.
E: Vallarta is really amazing! I wish I had more time to stay and enjoy every city I go, I love to travel. But I’m always running, non-stop if you know what I mean. You have many gay fans and certainly are not hesitant to show your acceptance by bringing them on stage (The G-AY club in London in 2007).
E: That night in UK was really fun. If you go to one of my shows you’d be surprised at how many guys come to sing and dance. I love my gay fans, but we’re at a point in time when we need to stop labeling people. Don’t believe everything you read, I mean, half of my crew is gay! (Laughs) Thank you, Enrique, for taking some time to talk with GAY PV. Good luck with the tour in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and we are looking forward to seeing you here in Mexico beginning May 6th!
You are “enamored” by Mexico’s Pacific Coast and especially Baja California Sur. What is it about Mexico do you love so much?
E: Los Cabos is truly a magical place, it’s my hidden paradise. Whenever I go, I try to escape and enjoy the stunning sunsets with a rum and coke.

Enrique: I’m not one to have a big celebration, I like to feel like every day is my birthday (laughs). But coming back to Mexico is always a huge party, reuniting with old friends, and of course my fans. Half of my heart is in Mexico, my whole career began there.

Enrique: Yo no soy de tener una gran celebración, me gusta sentir que cada día es mi cumpleaños (risas). Pero volver a México es siempre una gran fiesta, el reencuentro con viejos amigos y por supuesto con mis fans. La mitad de mi corazón está en México, toda mi carrera comenzó allí.
Tienes muchos fans gays y ciertamente no dudas en mostrar tu aceptación y subirlos al escenario (como en el Club GAY en Londres en 2007).
E: Esa noche en el Reino Unido fue muy divertida. Si vas a uno de mis conciertos estarías sorprendido por cuántos chicos vienen a cantar y bailar. Yo amo a mis fans gays, pero estamos en un momento en el que tenemos que dejar de etiquetar a las personas. Y no creas todo lo que lees, quiero decir, la mitad de mi equipo es gay! (risas). Gracias Enrique por tomarte un tiempo para hablar con GAYPV. Buena suerte con la gira en Nicaragua y Costa Rica, y estamos esperando para verte aquí en México a partir del 06 de mayo!
Dices que estás “enamorado” de la Costa del Pacífico de México y especialmente de Baja California Sur. ¿Qué tiene México que amas tanto?
E: Los Cabos es verdaderamente un lugar mágico, es mi paraíso escondido. Cada vez que voy, trato de escapar y disfrutar de las impresionantes puestas de sol con un ron con coca-cola. Estuviste en Puerto Vallarta en 2010 con Alejandro Fernández en un concierto en el Malecón. Cuéntanos cómo te sientes acerca de Puerto Vallarta.
E: Vallarta es realmente increíble! Me gustaría tener más tiempo para conocer y disfrutar de todas las ciudades que voy, me encanta viajar. Pero siempre estoy corriendo, sin parar, si sabes a lo que me refiero.

How did you come out of the closet?
I was an openly gay performer touring all over North America for years before. I came out to my parents. Coming out to your Mom and Dad is the hardest thing I think, especially for my generation. The ones who came behind us have no idea how lucky they are. You attended parochial school. Did your sexuality cause problems with your school career?
No. I wasn’t out until my 20s
Has being in Orange is the New Black changed anything in your life personally?
No I’m still a fat butch dyke.
You are confirmed as Grand Marshal of PV’s Gay Pride Parade May 2015. We are all excited to have you returning to Puerto Vallarta. What else is on your horizon?

How would you describe yourself as a teenager growing-up? Were you bullied?
No one would DARE bully me. I was tough. How did you parents accept your sexuality?
They came around. Parents have to love you. If you find yourself in a situation where your family does not accept who you are, then f*** ‘em, get yourself a new family.
How much input do you offer for the roll and how have you massaged it since its inception?

The series is in its third season. Can you divulge anything about what’s in store for Big Boo?
PV is a fab destination for queers of all shapes and sizes. The beaches are beautiful the food divine and the club scene is hopping. As far as bang for your buck goes PV is way better then other hot gay spots PTown or Sitges or Greece.
I’m assuming you are talking about big boo here. I don’t really have to offer any input. They always knew that I was playing the role. Boo was written for me. Only if you want me to get fired. 126
How do you enjoy Puerto Vallarta as an LGBT destination. Can you compare it to other destinations you have visited and performed?
¿Cómo saliste del clóset? Yo era una ejecutante abiertamente gay de gira por toda América del Norte durante años desde antes. Salí del closet con mis padres. Declararse ante tu papá y mamá es lo más difícil en mi opinión, especialmente para mi generación. Los que vienen detrás de nosotros no tienen idea de lo afortunados que son. ¿Cómo te describirías a ti misma como una adolescente creciendo? ¿Fuiste molestada? Nadie se hubiera atrevido a intimidarme.
Yo era dura. ¿Cómo fue que tus padres aceptaron tu sexualidad? Los padres tienen que amarte. Si te encuentras en una situación en la que tu familia no acepta lo que eres, entonces que se jodan, consíguete una nueva familia. ¿Cuánto aportas para el personaje y cómo lo has moldeado desde su creación? Estoy asumiendo que estas hablando de Boo. Yo realmente no tengo que moldearlo en nada. Ellos siempre supieron que yo interpretaría el papel. Boo fue escrito para mí. La serie se encuentra en su tercera temporada. ¿Puedes decir algo de lo que está por venir para Big Boo? Sólo si quieres que me despidan. ¿El estar en Orange Is The New Black cambió en algo tu vida personal? No. Sigo siendo un una machorra lesbiana gorda. Estás confirmada como Gran Mariscal del Desfile del Orgullo Gay de Puerto Vallarta en mayo de 2015. Todos estamos emocionados de tenerte de regreso en Puerto Vallarta. ¿Qué otra cosa sigue en tu horizonte? Estoy grabando mi próximo disco mientras hablamos. HOUSE OF DAVID DeLaria + Bowie = jazz, saldrá a finales de primavera o principios de verano. ¿Qué tanto disfrutas de Puerto Vallarta como un destino LGBT? ¿Puedes compararlo con otros destinos que ha visitado y disfrutado? PV es un destino fabuloso para los gays de todas las formas y tamaños. Las playas son hermosas, la comida divina y la escena del club está en llamas. Destinar tu dinero a PV es mucho mejor que a otros lugares gays como Ptown o Sitges o Grecia.
