ABOUT VALLARTA PRIDE For the third consecutive year, from May 17th to 25th, 2015, Puerto Vallarta will welcome the largest LGBT Pride event in the region: Vallarta Pride. Associations, companies and the entire LGBT community have joined together again to organize this event that celebrates the lifestyle diversity of our city in a 7-day festival that will offer arts and culture events, concerts, entertainment, films, fun, lots of partying and our fabulous Pride Parade. Our main events are free to the public and non-profit to once again show the world the best of our accepting and vibrant community. It is that level of acceptance which has made Puerto Vallarta recognized worldwide as an LGBT mecca, hosting national and international gay visitors and creating a sophisticated culture that is an important artistic, professional, altruistic and economic contributor to the community. This cultural heritage was adopted by the Vallarta Pride Organizing Committee, which works in conjunction with public and private partnerships and to make our city a player on the world stage of LGBT celebrations. Vallarta Pride works towards a future without discrimination where we all have equal rights under fair and equal law. ACT LGBT A.C. was formed by a group of concerned business owners looking for new ways to promote Puerto Vallarta worldwide. Although first working under a different name, the group was founded by Laura Gelezunas of Media Diva International, Tim Wilson of GAYPV Magazine, Daniel Gomez of Mijo! Brands, Oscar Moran of RHOM Design and Bill Hevener of BuenFlex Clothing. At a second meeting, the committee added Christian Serrano of Gay Vallarta Bar-Hopping. From those initial meetings two ideas were born: The need to create a gay business association and to sponsor a Gay Pride event in Puerto Vallarta. The group recognized that the business community at large would not take the LGBT business community seriously until there was an organized legal association. Since the community had been unable to come together without conflict in the past, the group decided to hold monthly meetings on what was happening in and around the business development community in Puerto Vallarta. This Group was called GEGPV. The first meeting was held at Almar Resort Luxury All Suites & Spa on March 4th, 2013. At that meeting volunteers were solicited to form the first Vallarta Pride Committee. Concerned about possible conflicts within the community, the Pride Committee was separated from the business association to function under the name of DFEC (Diversity Fests Events Committee) although the steering committees had shared members. After the second meeting, luncheon and networking components were added. It was realized that there was a need and intrinsic value in just creating time to talk to one another. This time ultimately proved to be deemed highly valuable and very useful to the members. The committee continued to listen to feedback to continue improving on what it could provide to the community. The first committee meeting for Pride occurred on March 28th, 2013 at the SETAC offices. After a tremendous amount of work by the Pride Steering Committee, the first pride weekend was held in Puerto Vallarta from May 24th to 26th, 2013. Subsequently, ACT LGBT A.C. has been continuing its monthly luncheons and continues in its goal of providing a solid and permanent LGBT Business Association. www.actlgbt.org

VALLARTA PRIDE COMMITTEE Carmen Porras Born in Mexico City, Carmen learned a deep appreciation for Mexican heritage and cooking from her family. She studied at Les Roches Hotel Management School in Bluche, Switzerland, learning cooking techniques, management skills and becoming fluent in French, German and English. She wanted a restaurant to call her own and opened El Arrayán in November, 2003. Bill Hevener Vice President of Vallarta Pride 2014, Bill has lived in Puerto Vallarta for nine years. He is married to Raul Duran and together they care for Raul’s nephew Zuri. Raul and Bill started BuenFlex Clothing and RK Supplement four years ago. Bill is a founding member of both ACT LGBT A.C. and Vallarta Pride. Tim Wilson Originally from Seneca, South Carolina, Tim holds a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Real Estate from Clemson University (1989). He was a Vice President of Oconee Federal Savings and Loan (1986-1996) and District Manager for Gannet Publishing (1996-2000). The real estate entrepreneur retired to Puerto Vallarta 2008 and co-founded GAYPV Magazine in 2010. Ryan Donner As the previous owner of a tourism information and advertising website, Ryan moved from California to Puerto Vallarta in 2012 and saw the need to develop an exciting new way to promote tourism. He created Free World Wifi, an advertiser-supported network of free Wi-Fi hotspots, and looks forward to promoting tourism and the LGBT community in his new home. Edgar Sánchez Beginning a theatrical career in 1999, Edgar has written 8 plays which have been performed in Puerto Vallarta, Tepic, Mazatlan and Baja California. In 2006, he opened STEREO Bar which Vallarta Lifestyles readers quickly voted Best Alternative Bar. He is currently a judge for the 2nd season of VOICE of Vallarta at ACTII Stages and manages La Supermana bookings. Mark Page After a successful career as an engineer in the high-tech industries of Chicago and Silicon Valley (Motorola, Navtech and Sybase) Mark sailed into Puerto Vallarta 19 years ago and hasn’t looked back. He started GayGuide Vallarta in 2000, and takes care of managing the Vallarta Pride website.
This year almost the whole community has given to Pride. The Committee appreciates the support of people who truly want to work together to build our community. To promote LGBT rights, Vallarta Pride Organizing Committee has confirmed a commitment ceremony as one of the official events of Vallarta Pride, taking place from May 17 to 25, 2015 in our destination. This symbolic LGBT wedding ceremony, open to all couples interested in committing or renewing their vows, will be held at one of Vallarta’s iconic boutique hotels, Casa Cupula. This ceremony will not only welcome the couples, but also friends and family amid a magical setting overlooking the ocean. Esta simbólica ceremonia de matrimonio para la comunidad LGBT está abierta para todos aquellos interesados en comprometerse o renovar sus votos. Este año contaremos con un Notario para certificar tu relación como un matrimonio de común acuerdo brindandoles a las parejas los derechos maritales de Ley (Costo adicional por la certificación notarial).
