The All-American Championship takes place annually during the men’s Division I collegiate basketball championship. Four teams representing each region of the country (North, South, East, and West) participate in a doubleheader format. Each of the four teams is coached by a head coach of a nationally-prominent high school program and assisted by a coach from the host city. A panel of the foremost high school basketball experts in the nation comprise the All-American Championship selection committee. “National interest in high school basketball is at an all-time high,” says Rick Giles, president of the Gazelle Group. “The proliferation of television coverage, recruiting websites, and magazines have enabled fans to become more aware than ever of the premier high school players. With the nation’s focus on basketball during March and the first weekend of April, the All-American Championship provides these players with a showcase on the biggest stage in the country.” The 2011 All-American Championship was held in Houston, Texas. Houston is the fourthlargest city in the United States and the largest in Texas, with a population in excess of 2.3 million. Houston’s economy has a broad industrial base in the energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, transportation, and health care sectors and is a leading center for building oilfield equipment. Only New York City is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters in the city limits. The gross area product (GAP) of greater Houston metropolitan area, which includes 5.9 million people, was $440.4 billion in 2008.

Coaching Staff Announced for All-American Championship High School all-star event to take place in Houston on April 3 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 17, 2011 Contact: Ray Cella 609-921-1300 (rcella@gazellegroup.com) PRINCETON, N.J. - Four of the nation's most successful high school basketball coaches will serve as head coaches for the inaugural All-American Championship, which takes place on Sunday, April 3, in Houston, Texas. The West team will be coached by Yates High School (Houston, Texas) head coach Greg Wise. Wise led Yates to a No. 1 national ranking in five national polls in 2009-10 when his team set a national high school record with a 114.6 points per game scoring average. A nine-time coach of the year during his career, Wise just completed his fifth season at Yates. Jason Smith, head coach at Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.), will serve as head coach of the East team. Smith has been the head coach at Brewster for 11 seasons, leading it to the National Final Four each of the past 4 seasons. In 2009-10, the Bobcats captured the NEPSAC Class AAA Championship for the second time in three years and won the National Prep School Championship. Brewster is the only program to win both the NEPSAC Class AAA title and National Championship in the same campaign. The South team head coach will be Isaac Pitts, head coach at Quality Education Academy (Winston Salem, N.C.). Pitts has been the head coach at QEA since 2008. In that time, he has guided QEA to three consecutive National Christian School Athletic Association national championships (2009, 2010, 2011). The North squad will be led by Lou Adams, head coach at Orr High School (Chicago, Ill.). Adams led Orr to a 20-8 record in 2010-11 after guiding the Spartans to the 2010 regional championship. These head coaches will be assisted by four Houston area head coaches: Craig Brownson (Travis High School, Richmond, Texas), Ronnie Courtney (Bush High School, Houston, Texas), Royce Huseman (Kingwood High School, Kingwood, Texas), and Wayne Jones (Strake Jesuit College Prep, Houston, Texas). In addition, Cortez Hale (Perspective Charter School, Joslin, Ill.) will also assist. Their team assignments will be determined at a later date. All-American Championship to Air on ESPN Networks FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 25, 2011 Contact: Ray Cella 609-921-1300 (rcella@gazellegroup.com) PRINCETON, N.J. - The inaugural All-American Championship, a doubleheader featuring the nation's best high school boys basketball players, will be televised on ESPN networks. The games, which will take place on Sunday, April 3, at the M.O. Campbell Center in Houston, Texas, will be carried live on ESPN3.com, beginning at 3:00pm ET. The games will then be rebroadcast in primetime on ESPNU at 9:00pm ET that same evening. The first game of the doubleheader will feature the North vs. the South, followed by the East vs. the West. Parker, Young, Ellis, Harkless named Most Outstanding Players FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 3, 2011 Contact: Ray Cella 609-921-1300 (rcella@gazellegroup.com) HOUSTON, Texas - The inaugural All-American Championship, featuring the nation's best high school boys basketball players, resulted in two games that came down to the final possession. In the first game of the doubleheader, Josiah Turner's (Sacramento, Calif./Quality Education Academy (N.C.)) layup at the buzzer gave the South a 93-91 overtime victory against the North. The South led by as many as 20 points, taking a 49-29 lead with 2:59 remaining in the first half. However, the North stormed back, outscoring the South 48-32 in the second half to send the game into overtime tied at 83-83. Turner scored four of his 13 points in the extra session, including the game-winner. He also handed out seven assists and had six steals Tony Parker (Lithonia, Ga./Miller Grove H.S) was named the South's Most Outstanding Player for netting a game-high 21 points and hauling down nine rebounds. Sir'Dominic Pointer (Fraser, Mich./Quality Education Academy (N.C.)) tallied 18 points, Levi Randolph (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones H.S.) had 14 points, and Robert Carter (Thomasville, Ga./Thomasville H.S.) added 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. The North received 17 points from B.J. Young (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.), who was named Most Outstanding Player for the squad. Mychael Henry (Chicago, Ill./Orr H.S.) had 14 points, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central H.S.) scored 11 points, Hanner Mosquera-Perea (LaPorte, Ind./La Lumiere School) posted 10 points and nine rebounds, Tracy Abrams (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel H.S.) had 10 points and five assists, and Ryan Boatright (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East H.S.) netted 10 points. In the nightcap, the West led by an 87-67 score with 6:31 remaining in the fourth quarter and then withstood a furious comeback by the East to hold on and earn a 107-104 win. Perry Ellis (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Heights H.S.) earned Most Outstanding Player honors for the West for scoring 14 points and hauling down a team-high eight rebounds. D'Angelo Harrison (Missouri City, Texas/Dulles H.S.) led the West with 21 points. Julien Lewis (Texas City, Texas/La Marque H.S.) had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Shabazz Muhammad (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman H.S.) also had 17 points. Rasheed Sulaimon (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) had 13 points and six assists. The East was paced by team Most Outstanding Player Mo Harkless (Jamaica, N.Y./South Kent School (Conn.)) and his 15 points. Michael Gbinije (Chester, Va./Benedictine School) had 14 points, Dajuan Coleman (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt H.S.) had 12 points and six rebounds, LaQuinton Ross (Burlington, N.J./Life Center Academy) netted 11 points, and JaKarr Sampson (Akron, Ohio/Brewster Academy (N.H.)) and Naadir Tharpe (Worcester, Mass./Brewster Academy (N.H.)) each had 10 points with Tharpe also handing out seven assists. April 4, 2011 Eric Bossi Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting Analyst Talk about it in Basketball Recruiting Board This spring, there have been several "All-American" type events popping up across the country. However, one of the most intriguing - due in large part to the inclusion of juniors and seniors in the game - is the Gazelle Group's AllAmerican Championship that took place in Houston on Sunday. While Rivals.com didn't attend the event, analyst Eric Bossi broke down the game tape. Here's a look at some of Bossi's observations from the South's 93-91 overtime win over the North, and the West's 107-104 win over the East.
AAC Notables Tony Parker, PF/C, South- Parker continued to show progression from last summer. In scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds he was the rare big man who could insert himself into the flow of an All-Star setting. He shows great hands, is outstanding at feeling the defender and picking the correct move. His stock continues to climb. Josiah Turner, PG, South- The Arizona-bound point guard had to transfer as a senior but continues to look like a five-star prospect. While he did have some careless turnovers, his size and ability to create from the point is without peer in 2011. He can create in transition, showed improved mechanics on his shot - even if the results didn't reflect them - and beasted a smaller Kevin Ferrell to get to an offensive rebound and score the game winning bucket at the buzzer in overtime.
2012 big man Tony Parker was impressive at the AAC.
Mycheal Henry, SF, North- It's pretty clear that the strong 6-foot-6 wing should have little issue with making the physical adjustment to college. The Illinois signee is a man out there and blends a pretty refined wing scoring game to go along with his ability to finish at the rim and rebound.
B.J. Young, PG/SG, North- The Arkansas signee finished out his senior year on a high note after some steps in the wrong direction earlier in his senior year. Even among high-level competition, Young demonstrated a lethal first step and creativity in finishing around the hoop. Sir'Dominic Pointer, SF, South- It's going to be really tough for Steve Lavin to keep this Detroit native off of the floor. Physically imposing on the wing, he makes use of his explosive athleticism and flies from end to end looking to make plays. Julien Lewis, SG, West- Lewis looks like he's a college-ready scorer on the wing. He uses the power in his shoulders to ward off defenders and is extremely slick along either baseline. Unafraid of taking advantage of an opening, he's got a quick trigger and makes defenders pay for relaxing. The Texas-bound four-star may be a bit unappreciated at this point. D'Angelo Harrison, SG, West- One of several St. John's signees who looked good, Harrison is another natural scorer. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard showed that he's still got a quick and accurate trigger from deep and loads of confidence. It should also be pointed out that he's got a nose for the ball and is an outstanding rebounder for a two guard.
Perry Ellis, PF, West- Ellis' game is all about making the simple, smart play and being effective with his touches. There wasn't a better big man in either of the two games in terms of running from rim to rim and he's proving to be an excellent spot up shooter. He's still instinctive on the glass and has improved his footwork in the low post. Dajuan Coleman, C, East-He's still not very explosive off of the floor and can be run ragged a bit. But, when the 2012 five-star catches in the lane with his defender sealed, forget it. In the past he's overpowered people but now his footwork is coming in line with his already strong hands and instincts. Naadir Tharpe, PG, East- A four-star point guard headed to Kansas, Tharpe was by far the most steady decision maker and ballhandler. He tossed out seven assists to just one assist and was always making the smart play instead of looking for much flash. He looks effective in pick and roll situations because of his ability to read both his defender and the help.

Levi Randolph will provide a big lift to Alabama. When he can linger on the touches. wing and step into a shot off the catch, he's an excellent shooter. He should allow Alabama to run a lot more pick and roll offense next year because of his ability to spot up and knock down shots. … Shabazz Muhammad was impressive as a transition finisher and showed improved ballhandling and shooting form. Next for him is to add a bit more wiggle and East/West to his game … Duke signee Rasheed Sulaimon looks to be a classic combo guard. The class of 2012 five-star is a pretty good defender, can make plays running the point and is comfortable off of the ball. … There's not a lot of flash to the game of St. John's signee Maurice Harkless, but he makes plays. At St. John's he will be a transition and mid-range finisher who does lots of other little things that don't show up in a box score. … Finally, Desmond Hubert is quite raw on the offensive end and lacks strength. However, the class of 2011 three-star big man is a high-level run and jump athlete who is a very good shot blocker. He looked much more aggressive in contesting shots and running the floor.

While the All-American Championship may never be on the same level as the McDonald’s All-American Game or the Jordan Brand Classic, it has two things going for it – it is for true regional pride, and it takes place in the same city as the Final Four. There are four teams taking part in the April 3 double-header, one from each of the four regions: North, South, East and West. The North plays the South in the first game, with the East facing the West afterwards. Unlike the two major all-star games, the players are actually representing a specific region. The North features players solely from Illinois, Indiana and Missouri; the South takes ones from Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina; the East uses New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virginia and Massachusetts; and the West has California, Texas, Nevada and Kansas. Because the game occurs the weekend of the Final Four in the same city as it, hundreds of media members, coaches and fans are already in the city. It takes place on the day between the semifinals and championship, giving everyone an opportunity to relax for a couple of hours and take in a couple of excellent all-star games. As for the rosters, the All-American Championship also is unique – it doesn’t include just seniors. There are 14 juniors spread out among the four regions, to go with 26 seniors. For fans that don’t get to see AAU or high school games, it is a chance to see the next crop of great players, as well as the group after that. Despite the McDonald’s and Jordan games taking most of the top talent, the All-American Championship did a good job culling 40 players for two competitive games. The North team has an explosive group of guards, with scorers Ryan Boatright and B.J. Young combining with savvy leaders Chasson Randle and Tracy Abrams. Junior Hanner Parea and Sam Thompson will dunk all day up front. The South has a California import leading the way in point guard Josiah Turner, who plays at Quality Education Academy (N.C.). Rodney Hood, Ky Madden, Dai-Jon Parker and Levi Randolph provide plenty of wing scoring. On the East, versatile perimeter scorers Michael Gbinije and LaQuinton Ross wait on the wings, while dominant 2012 big man Dajuan Coleman camps out down low. Duke-commit Alex Murphy and two St. John’s signees (Maurice Harkless and Jakarr Sampson) are also on the team. The West will be led by 2012 studs Shabazz Muhammad, Perry Ellis, L.J. Rose, Rasheed Sulaimon and Cameron Ridley – all five could be "Burger Boys" next season. They will be fun to watch. It’s not as star-studded as McDonald’s or Jordan, but the All-American Championship has set up a niche for itself that could create a worthy competitor to the two heavyweights. The All-American Championship rosters are out and they contain 39 prospects ranked on Scout.com. The Gazelle Group released the rosters for the All-American Championship on Thursday. The event consists of 40 prospects from around the country. Of the prospects participating 24 are seniors, while 16 are in the class of 2012. 39 of the 40 prospects are ranked in either Scout.com’s 2011 top 100 or 2012 top 75. The event will take place in Houston (Tex.) during Final Four weekend. The double-header will tip off on Sunday, April 3rd at the M.O. Campbell Center.
