1 All-American Championship

Welcome Dear Basketball Fans: Welcome to the All-American Championship! Last year’s inaugural All-American Championship exceeded our expectations. When you look at the players we attracted, it makes you realize the depth of talent at the high school level. This year is no different. I am proud that we have been able to attract such a talented group of young men and look forward to an exciting day of basketball. The players you will see today in the All-American Championship have committed to attend some of the country’s elite college basketball programs, including Arizona, Auburn, Baylor, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Providence, Purdue, Syracuse, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. We are also proud that some of the juniors who played in our inaugural event last year decided to come back as seniors. I offer a sincere welcome and thanks to Robert Carter, Shaquille Cleare, Dajuan Coleman, Hanner Mosquera-Perea, L.J. Rose, and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. Putting these rosters together is a difficult task. However, it is made much easier with the input of an elite selection committee - Paul Biancardi (ESPN); Eric Bossi (Rivals.com); Frank Burlison (BurlisonOnBasketball.com); Evan Daniels (Scout.com); Clark Francis (Hoop Scoop); Joel Francisco (ESPN.com); Rob Harrington (Prep Stars); Jason Hickman (Max Preps); Jim Hicks (RCS Sports, Houston); Tom Konchalski (High School Basketball Illustrated); and Chris Lawlor (New York Daily News). Their knowledge and passion for high school basketball is unmatched and their willingness to be a large part of this event lends to it a high degree of credibility. Thank you for all your time, effort, and input. I also offer special thanks to adidas, Gatorade, Verizon, and ESPN. Of course, we would not be here without the players and coaches. Their enthusiasm and willingness to participate is especially gratifying. It is my sincere goal that we provide a memorable and enjoyable experience to each and every one of them. Enjoy the games!

Rick Giles President Gazelle Group P.S. We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta in 2013.

About the Event Last year the Gazelle Group launched the All-American Championship, a high school boys basketball showcase event that features the top high school juniors, seniors, and postgraduate players in the nation. “This is an idea whose time has come,” Gazelle Group president Rick Giles said at the time. “The nation’s focus is on basketball during March and the first weekend of April and there is no better way to increase that focus than to bring the nation’s best high school basketball players to the city of the men’s collegiate basketball championship to compete in what will be one of the premier events of its kind in the country.” The inaugural event, held in Houston, was a success. The players who participated, the plaudits in the media, the feedback from players and parents alike, were all overwhelming. Add to that the players who agreed to play in this year’s event and the future of the AllAmerican Championship is truly bright.

Lakefront Arena “National interest in high school basketball and recruiting is at an all-time high,” says Giles. “With the proliferation of television coverage and recruiting websites and magazines, fans are more aware than ever of the premier high school players. This is an opportunity for these players to showcase their talent on the biggest stage in the country.”

Selection Committee • Paul Biancardi, ESPN • Eric Bossi, Rivals • Frank Burlison, BurlisonOnBasketball.com • Evan Daniels, Scout.com • Clark Francis, Hoop Scoop • Joel Francisco, ESPN.com • Rob Harrington, Prep Stars • Jason Hickman, Max Preps • Jim Hicks, RCS Sports (Houston) • Tom Konchalski, High School Basketball Illustrated

A panel of high school basketball experts reviews all candidates and selects the teams. Each team is coached by a head coach of a nationally-prominent high school program and assisted by a coach from the host city.

Did You Know… The Battle of New Orleans (1815) was the final major battle of the War of 1812. American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson, defeated an invading British Army intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast territory the United States had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase. However, both armies were unaware that the Treaty of Ghent had already ended the war on December 24, 1814.

All-American Championship

2013: Atlanta, Ga. Atlanta will be the site of the 2013 All-American Championship. At every turn, rich Atlanta history is revealed through the people and events that grew this settlement into an international city. The roads you travel through Atlanta were worn from the Native Americans who first called this land home. The beautiful and serene greenspaces once were the battlefields of a nation torn apart in civil war. From the many railroad tracks crossing the area to the skyscrapers lining Peachtree Street to the world’s busiest airport, the story of two centuries of changing Atlanta, Georgia history unfolds. The spirit of Atlanta and the ideals of its people reflect those of the courageous and visionary leaders of the past and present. In the past six years, the metro area has added more than 458,568 people annually, more than any other in the United States. At this growth rate, the projected population of Atlanta’s 20 core counties for 2020 is 6.4 million.

Atlanta has no natural boundaries, so the metropolitan area is large, encompassing 8,480.27 square miles. Across the region, 28 counties and 140 municipalities govern. The City of Atlanta, in the center of the metropolitan area, encompasses 131 square miles. Atlanta has hosted Super Bowls, NCAA men’s and women’s division I national championships, and the Olympics.

Did You Know… There are more than 65 streets in Atlanta that have the word Peachtree in them. Every year since 2005, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been ranked as the world’s busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic and number of landings and take-offs. In 2010 (the most recent data available), the airport served 89 million passengers (243,000 passengers daily) and 950,119 flights.
