We are so pleased to have you join us in this unique shopping experience featuring more than 150 exhibitors from various states and locations. The Down East Holiday Show was a vision in 2002 for the Pitt Community College Foundation. Today it is our largest annual fundraiser and continues to grow each year paving the way for student success. We know you came to find special gifts, gourmet delights and maybe even a special treat for yourself, but we want you to know that The Down East Holiday Show is so much more than shopping. Your participation helps us with student scholarships and educational activities of the college. You can be proud that the purchase of your ticket will change lives of students at Pitt Community College. Many of these students continue to live and work in our community impacting the local economy. This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and our volunteers, who work tirelessly to assist in this exciting three-day show. Approximately 100 volunteers share their time and talents to create this incredible weekend. You can also take responsibility for the growth and success of The Down East Holiday Show. Last year over 11,000 attended the show, many returning year after year. Over $100,000 was raised for student scholarships and educational activities. A Holiday Recipe for Saving: Holiday time can mean higher utility bills for some households, especially if you are preparing large meals. But you can help reduce those extra costs with the following practices: • Don’t preheat your oven. Roasting a turkey or ham is a long, slow process, so preheating is usually unnecessary. • Keep the oven closed. When you open your oven door, a significant amount of heat can escape and your oven temperature can drop by 25 degrees. Use the oven light to peek inside instead. • Match the pan to the burner on electric stoves. If you use a 6-inch pan on an 8-inch burner, you can waste up to 40 percent of the energy used. Pitt Community College Foundation Since 1961, Pitt Community College has been a key partner in promoting the economic development of the area. The highly technical skills and the basic skills that the College provides to area residents and distant learners are catalysts for workforce development. Local employers are dependent upon the job-ready PCC graduates they hire to help their businesses become more productive. The Pitt Community College Foundation was established in 1973 to secure resources and relationships to provide support for the programs and services at Pitt Community College, to provide student scholarships and to expand the educational opportunities for our local students. Making a positive difference for the success of our students has been the primary goal of the Foundation. During the past decade, the PCC Foundation’s support for the college has grown from approximately $38,000 per year to over $300,000 annually in addition to special campaigns such as the 2007 Lewis Field House construction and Minges-Overton Baseball Complex expansion campaign, and the 2008-2009 $7.1 million Futures First Campaign. Since 2007, the PCC Foundation has provided over $9 million in support for the College. Special events such as the Down East Holiday Show, the Annual Excellence Fund Drive, Dancing With the PCC Stars, the PCC Drivin’ for Dreams Fall Golf Classic and the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop generate significant annual financial support for the Foundation’s services. Special initiatives and campaigns such as the Capital Campaign for the Herman Simon Building allow the PCC Foundation to address strategic needs for the college. As the College continues to grow, the PCC Foundation works to develop endowments for scholarships and programs. Special funds for instructional initiatives are also important to the success of our students. Generous contributions from individuals, alumni, businesses, and organizations in Eastern North Carolina have been essential to the success of the College and the PCC Foundation. The College’s state and local budgets provide resources to sustain only a basic level of operations. Contributors’ support helps provide the extra measure of excellence in programs, student support, and facilities. The Bond Referendum will support construction and ongoing operating expenses for a new Science Building and the relocation of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Center (BLET). 2. The State of NC requires that all buildings and grounds at PCC be maintained by the county. The state only provides funding for salaries, equipment and supplies. 3. Economic and Workforce Development in the county are directly related to a strong responsive and growing community college. 4. More than 70% of PCC students remain in the region after graduation, contributing to the local economy. 5. PCC’s economic impact to Pitt County in payroll and operations totals more than $31 million annually. 6. PCC is the fastest growing and most crowded community college in the state. 7. The annual investment by tax payers for the bond is approximately $0.0185 per $100 valuation.
