Annie E. Howell, a devoted woman of faith, love, and service, was born on May 17, 1935, in Gates, North Carolina, to the late Abraham Eason and Rosa Hoffler. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on February 4, 2025.

Annie’s faith journey began when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at St. John AME Church in Sunbury, NC. Upon moving to Hampton, Virginia, she became a devoted member of Queen Street Baptist Church and later Morning Star Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in ministries including the John Riddick Circle, the Deaconess Ministry, and the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee.

Educated in the Gates County School System, Annie later pursued further studies in Real Estate School. She worked diligently throughout her life, serving at Langley Air Force Base Exchange and later in the Hampton City Schools Cafeteria, where her warm spirit touched many lives.

A woman of many talents and a heart full of love, Annie was known for her kindness and generosity. She had a nurturing spirit, often mothering those around her. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and was an exceptional cook. She especially cherished her role as a grandmother and greatgrandmother, bringing joy and wisdom to her beloved family.

Annie was united in marriage to Osborne Howell, her loving husband of 63 years, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Delica Smith, Larry Hunter, and Van Hoffler.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Danny Howell (Stephanie) and Priscilla Howell; her grandchildren, Eveann-Shayte Claxton, Markaya HowellPhillips, Porsha Howell, and Bryon Howell; her great-grandchild, Corion Melvin; her siblings, Nathan “Boy” Eason and Haywood Norman; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Annie E. Howell lived a life full of grace, compassion, and faith. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

“ ur memories of you will forever bring us comfort.”

Grandma,

I still haven't been able to process this. Just the day before God decided to break my heart, you responded to me by squeezing my fingers which gave me so much hope but the reality is you gave me strength and might too. This truly feels unreal. When I arrived at the hospital I remained hopeful but when I realized what happened I was hurt, confused and upset. I couldn't understand why you didn't wait for me but then I realized you did. You waited until I got off work because you never liked interfering with work but to me it still shattered my world, I wasn't ready.

Words can't describe the loss that I feel. Since I was a little girl PaPa and you had me, even down to the vacations I invited myself on with you all, I was there on every one. I'm going to miss so many things between us. The laughter, the phone calls, our conversations about anything, spending time, our shows, you being supportive and here recently you checking on me when you felt I needed that call every day when I didn't even realize I needed it. That's a bond that's unbreakable and a love with no expiration date. I will forever cherish those memories in my heart.

To have cared for you, as you had once cared not only for me but even down to caring and SPOILING Corion, will always be one of my highest honors. Grandma we will both, remember that welcoming hug that came with the lipstick kisses on the cheek, your caring heart, your playful jokes, you being there through the good and the bad - that's all of grandmas special love and then some.

You were a source of guidance who would always lead with God first. Regardless of any hurdle you were always determined to push yourself and I've always admired you for that. You always spoke life over yourself no matter what. So, out of the many things you've taught me, I'm going to continue to speak life over my household no matter what it may look like, and encourage others to do the same in the Lord as you have instilled in me. I'd choose you everyday in any lifetime, you were such a luxury and necessary to Corion and I. Both of us are richly blessed to have a praying grandma such as you because it's your prayers that will forever be protecting US. I know without a doubt that God has you in his keeping. As you know we both are forever grateful for you, will always love you and without a doubt miss you!

This Old House

This old house, worn yet strong, Stood through the years, held love so long. Its walls once echoed laughter bright, Soft whispers prayed in morning light.

The porch once rocked with stories told, Of dreams and faith and hands to hold. The windows framed both sun and rain, Through joy and sorrow, love remained.

Family and Friends

Family and Friends

The floors, though creaked with every stride, Carried the steps of those inside. Each scar, each mark upon the door, A memory carved forevermore.

Now empty halls, so still, so wide, Yet in my heart, you still reside. The fire’s out, the lights are dim, But love still lingers deep within.

One day, beyond this earthly land, I’ll find that house, built not by hand. With golden halls and streets so wide, Where you will greet me, arms open wide.

Until that day, I’ll hold you near, In whispered prayers and silent tears. For though this old house stands no more, Your love still knocks upon my door.

The family of Annie E. Howell extends our heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, love, and support during this time. Your kind words, visits, and acts of kindness have been a source of comfort and strength. May God bless each of you abundantly.

With love

and

appreciation, The Howell Family Acknowledgments
