Annual Report
Digital Version
To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
From the Executive Director,
As we reflect on the past year at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley, I am filled with immense pride and a profound sense of achievement. This year has been nothing short of remarkable, and I am excited to share some of our most significant accomplishments with you.
The 22/23 year felt like a year of growth for our agency. We expanded to new locations, expanded our numbers, and expanded our efforts. The 23/24 year, by comparison, felt like a year of actualizing that growth in deep and meaningful ways. We invested deeply in opportunities to expand our enrichment activities. We reviewed survey feedback from our stakeholders and membership and established strategies to help us improve. And so, the year was also a year of growth but growth in the form of development; and the impact of that growth has been immediate. We received a National Fine Arts award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for the Teen Center’s extraordinary Koi Dragon Art piece. This stunning creation is not only a testament to the incredible talent and creativity of our young members but also a vibrant symbol of the supportive and nurturing environment we strive to cultivate every day. We launched our brand-new Mobile STEM trailer this year, which could be the precursor to a dramatic expansion in enrichment opportunities available to our members. One of the year's most inspiring moments was our Youth of the Year event, featuring keynote speaker Abel Guillen from the California Department of Education. His powerful story as a former Club kid resonated deeply with our members and our community, reinforcing the importance of education and the boundless potential of our youth.
These achievements have been made possible through the deep and collaborative partnerships we have enjoyed with organizations like the Napa Valley Vintners, Napa Valley Unified School District, and Kaiser Permanente. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in helping us provide high-quality programs and services to our members.
However, these successes have not come without challenges. Just as economic stress impacts household budgets, it impacts our operating costs as well. And as those costs continue to rise, we’ve watched as donations and unrestricted sources of income become less available and more conservative. This dual pressure underscores the remarkable resilience and dedication of our board, staff, volunteers, and members, making our achievements even more significant. That work has been buttressed by the Club’s commitment to ensure that these programs continue to
be accessible to those who need us most as demonstrated in the over $3,000,000 in scholarships we’ve dispensed over the course of this year.
As we look to the future, our commitment to providing innovative and impactful services to the Napa community remains steadfast. But to sustain and expand these efforts, we need your support. Your involvement and investment are crucial in making our vision a reality. Together, we can continue to create a nurturing and empowering environment for our children and teens, ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed.
Thank you for your unwavering trust and support in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our young people and our community.
Greg Bouillerce Executive Director
If we were to consolidate the diverse backgrounds and circumstances of the youth attending the Boys & Girls Club into a single story, it would look something like this: The average member of the Boys & Girls Club resides and goes to school in Napa. They belong to a family of four, typically accompanied by a sibling who also goes to the Club. Their parents are full-time employees, collectively earning an annual income of less than $80,000. Their living situation involves sharing a rented home with other family members or close friends. However, despite the communal resources, financial constraints often create difficulties in meeting basic needs such as nutrition and housing. Consequently, their parents find themselves juggling multiple jobs, relying on the Club's support to ensure their children are cared for when school is not in session.

The Club approach to income has evolved since the pandemic but here are some important trends between 2022 and 2023.
Despite unprecedented growth and our best efforts to offset fees to families outside funding sources remain flat and this forced us to expand our reliance on fees.
The rise of the UnGala and the return of the Crab Feed have been a huge boon for Napa Valley Kids and the funds raised there allow us to offer more scholarships!
NVUSD Support in the form of ELOP Grant funding continues to drive our expansion.
The Club continues to leverage local, state, and national supports to drive our efforts. We devote as much funding as possible to staff and supplies because those are the most important direct service aspects of our work. We still have bills to pay though!

The Club’s approach to expenditures has evolved since the pandemic but here are some important trends between 2022 and 2023.
Since 2021 We’ve more than tripled the amount of funding dedicated to programs both in supply but also in the number and quality of staff working directly with kids.
We’re committed to the long haul but with our expanded reliance on fees we’ve opted to hold off on Capital Improvements.
Total Youth Served in 2023
If you were to summarize the average Club member’s entire year (after school, Spring, Summer, and Winter breaks into one 24 hour period here is how that time would be allotted.
over the course of the year spend more time at the Club then they do at school!
If every child who attended the Club in 2023 was the average height of a 5th grader (4.5 feet) and we laid them out head to toe, that line of kids would stretch over five miles! That’s the distance from Napa to Yountville!
= 500 kids
In the total number of kids served by the Club was greater than the number of kids served in both 2021 and 2020 combined!
If you were to take all the children attending afterschool programs in the county of Napa and combined them into a village of 100… 67 of them attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley. 18 of them attend programs run by Napa County. 15 of them attend other programs.
If we apply the median Household income in Napa to the typical family we serve, of their $7,000 monthly income, $6,500 goes to basic needs like Housing, Transportation, Utilities, Groceries; leaving just $500 to spend on other essentials like child care. 70% of the households we serve live below this income threshold and receive full scholarships to attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley.
“In California, child care expenses can consume more than 60% of a single mother’s income, making it one of the most expensive states in the nation for child care.” (Source: California Child Care Resource & Referral Network)
As of 2023, the average cost of childcare in Napa was $15,000 every year. The total fee to attend all programs offered by the Club in 2023 was $2,400. Money never stands between a kid and the Club.
attended the Club at no Cost with a total of in fees waived in 2023!
If you reduce the number of kids we serve to a village of 100… 60 kids live in a dual parent household. 36 kids live in households with one parent.
4 kids are homeless or in the foster care system.
Ask anyone and they’ll tell you that their kids come first. And with our Club families are represented in every facet of the Napa Valley Economy. The Club plays a critical role in ensuring a stable workforce.
According to survey data, over were able to continue to work in Napa knowing that their kids were safe and engaged at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley!

At its core, the Club’s primary vehicle for impact can be found in the relationships between youth and staff. There is nothing more important than the quality of the person who works directly with our kids. And while we have increased staff pay over the last few years, we need to do more.
Generally speaking, when school is out, Clubs are in. After eight hours of school, kids are hungry and need to RUN, JUMP, and PLAY. We make sure they have a healthy snack and then give them some unstructured time to decompress after school.
Power Hour is a National Boys & Girls Club program that creates structured time for homework assistance and academic enrichment. When kids are done with or have no homework, they’re still engaged in activities that reinforce school day curriculum like Math-ketbal & Language Relays.
The last portion of the day is completely dedicated to enrichment activities that help our kids to step outside of their comfort zone. In addition to national programs like Fine Arts, Triple Play Sports, and Healthy Habits Cooking, we challenge our kids and staff to come up with a range of new and engaging programs and activities that inspire kids to do and be more.

We’re a service organization and believe that the best way to serve our community is by welcoming their perspective and needs as we continue to grow. We don’t do surveys so that people can tell us how great we are. We USE surveys to inform our efforts and make us better.

It gives us piece of mind that our child is at the safe space while we are working
We have to work and need a safe place for our kids after school.
I am a single mother (widow). The Club provides a safe place for my daughter to attend after school. She’s made many friends in the afterschool program and enjoys spending time there. She especially loves being able to play volleyball and do arts and crafts, like painting. I appreciate the variety of activities offered. I also like how they have power hour every day, which is time for my daughter to focus on schoolwork/homework. Without the Club, I would have to find some sort of alternative for her, and I don't think it would be as enriching or rewarding. I really am grateful for an organization like the Club . Thank you!
You guys provide a safe fun place for my child to attend after school. If he was not attending the club, this would affect me being able to work.
Boys & Girls club made it so easy for us to transition our child with special needs with so much ease. It brought so much peace of mind to our day to day and we are very grateful that he is in a great environment, get motivated, looks forward to it and get taught respectful manners with their leadership team. Love to see their structure. Thanks so much!
The club is very important for both parents because, we can concentrate in our jobs.
We like that the program is offered at the school. We appreciate how well Alex and his staff run the afterschool program at Willow. Our son enjoys the afterschool program and always shares with us the fun learning activities the program offers. He also enjoys playing sports with his friends while attending.
Without the club my kids would not have a place to go during the summer and any other break which would really affect our work. We appreciate the club for being a reliable source of care for us
The club is very important to me. Allows me to work and be a single parent. My kids love club.
We both work full time and need childcareideally onsite so we don’t need to interrupt the work day.
Without the club my kids would not have a place to go during the summer and any other break which would really affect our work. We appreciate the club for being a reliable source of care for us.
I am a single parent and to me Boys & Girls program is very important due to the fact i get off later than my child and I don't have any support from anyone, you guys are pretty much my back bone to support my child. And I appreciate you guys so much!
It helps with my work schedule. It allows me to work full time and be able to pick my kids up from school after work. It helps my kids do their home work.
Without this program my child would have nowhere to go while I finish work. I appreciate that I don’t have to leave him home alone to be using technology too much.

We love sharing data points and since July 1 of 2021 the Club’s publications have reached over 50,000 people locally. Over 9,000 individuals have spent significant time clicking through our magazines, resulting in thousands of unique clicks to our website or social media pages. That’s important because, as you know Napa is a small community and when people visit our website or review these publications, they want to know who is helping to make this work possible and whether you’re a parent, a participant or a sponsor, that continues to be you; so, THANK YOU!
