J Y 3/25/2018 Crystal Blue Skies The carbon cycle is a biogeochemical cycle in which carbon is exchanged among the atmosphere of Earth. The Carbon cycle is a process in which carbon compounds are transformed in the environment, mostly involving carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere. The carbon cycle is from burning fossil fuels which cause deaths in plants and animals. Which raises global carbon ppm is CO2 parts per million. The reason this is something bigger, is because it has to do with the whole world. It is the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere affecting the whole world. My CO2 emissions in tonnes per year is 8.8. The number of Earths needed to sustain my lifestyle is 2.9 Earths. Tree seedlings are baby trees. The Number of tree seedlings needed to offset that amount is 228 seedlings for 10 years. Overshoot day means when you use as much energy as the Earth can produce in a year. My overshoot day is May 06. The average overshoot day in the US is March 14. The average overshoot day in Tunisia is October 13. Sandra Steingraber’s wrote a book called Raising Elijah. She has 3 suggestions to lower CO2 levels. They were growing a garden, not using a clothes dryer, and not using a gas-powered lawn mower. I do agree with her ideas, I think they are reasonable for people to do. They also make a lot of sense to stop using or start doing. Starting a garden can really help with the CO2 problem, if everyone in the world or every family were to build a garden the CO2 would go down and we could prevent climate change. I came up with my own ideas to reduce CO2 levels. They are planting a garden with veggies and fruit, but not just eating the product also selling it to your neighbors. When growing your own food and selling it to your neighbors can lower obesity in your neighborhood, and making sure your neighbors aren’t contributing in the carbon cycle. Gardens can absorb 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. One way we could absorb more existing CO2 is by using soda lime, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, and lithium hydroxide. These chemicals are able to remove carbon dioxide from the air by reacting with it. Put them in the air in a responsible way. It can absorb accounts for about 15% of global emissions, says News Scientist.
Two new pieces of technology that could make a difference in lowering CO2 levels is manufacturing lowercase trees that can absorb CO2 in a faster way than normal trees. We would have to build the trees and when we do it would be in a factory that uses renewable energy, and shoes that absorb CO2 while you walk. “Artificial trees can capture carbon dioxide directly out of the air—and they’re 1,000 times more efficient than nature’s trees in doing so. Lackner estimates 10 million such artificial “trees” would be required to drop atmospheric concentrations by 0.5 ppm per year. “ says Lackner.
Data: (2018,408.35) Present This data points is for the present. The X represents the year which is 2018, and Y is the CO2 parts per million. (2017, 406.42) Past This data point is for the past. The X represents the year which is 2017, and the Y was the CO2 in 2017 which is 406.42. The CO2 ppm went down by 1.93. (2068, 350) Future This point is for the future, my class and I want the CO2 to drop to 350 CO2 ppm. The year I predicted the year it will reach 350 is 2068, 50 years from now.

I feel very optimistic about my plan to lower CO2 levels for the future. I came up with some ideas I never thought of before. I think the world can lower CO2 levels faster when we work together, I know it won’t happen overnight but if everyone offers ideas about air pollution we can change the world with our ideas and it takes everyone to come up with a great idea. There is ideas being looked at to help this global issue, ideas I would have never thought of. I know we can lower CO2 levels to 350 by 2068 with my ideas and my classmates’ ideas. I chose 2068 because it is 50 years from 2018, it is more than enough time to lower levels for CO2. It shouldn’t take 50 years to lower CO2 ppm, we made this mess in our skies and we have to clean it up for the future generations. We have to set them up for success, so they can continue to invent new technology that can help the next time it happens. Your ideas can change and shape the future of the world.
