ROMANCE ON MAIN STREET Romance is more than a feeling shared by a couple in love. It’s a way of relating to life when you re-imagine the ordinary…
Hot Soup on a Chilly Night
The desert climate offers warm days and crisp evenings. Soup, a side of crusty French bread and a glass of wine offers a simple, rustic treat. One of our favorites? The Tomato Gorgonzola Soup at RD RNNR.
Heartfelt Gifts
Whether you’re thinking of a Valentine’s Day gift for a loved one or an amulet or trinket for yourself, consider the ceramic hearts by artists Barry & Rosalind Hage at Art on Main Street.
A Great Bar
Where everyone knows your name! Stuft Pizza has a surprisingly extensive wine list and an impressive variety of craft cocktails and beer.
A Little Night Music
Enjoy dinner or arrive late for live music and dancing at Landmark on Friday and Saturday
evenings until 11 pm. Valentine’s Day is on a Friday night this year, so enjoy a glass of wine, champagne or an exotic cocktail and a warm ambiance for dancing the night away.
Healthy Decadence
Sweet, luxuriously delicious, chocolate-covered strawberries will be available especially for Valentine’s Day at La Petite Creperie. Pair with Prosecco or champagne. Of course, purely decadent indulgences are available too!
Romantic Patio Dining
Dine al fresco by a crackling fire with a view of the mountains and the stars. Sounds like the patio at The Grill on Main.
Shopping As Cardio
An idea courtesy of Alexandrite Active & Golf Wear! Treat yourself to shopping as cardio. Do you know that a walk around Old Town will add 2500-3500 steps to your day? Do it and check your i-phone, healthy heart tracker. How great a Valentine’s gift is that?

Melt butter and chocolate in a double boiler. Set aside to cool. (If you don’t, your brownies will be heavy and dry.) Beat eggs and salt until light and foamy. Add sugar and vanilla gradually, and continue beating until well creamed. Set aside. With a few swift strokes, stir cooled chocolate mixture into eggs and sugar.

City Manager’s Message
Thank you to all our residents and visitors for being a part of our Gem of the Desert. I look forward to seeing you out on our trails, at our shops, restaurants, and events.
By: Jon McMillen, La Quinta City Manager Greetings to our residents and visitors from around the world. February is an active and exciting time in La Quinta with much to offer. Let’s look at projects and upcoming events in our Gem of the Desert. Don’t miss out on Toast to LQ on February 7th from 6 – 9 PM at the La Quinta Museum. Toast To LQ provides a dapper yet fun atmosphere that pairs fine wines with quality hors d’oeuvres. Visit playinlaquinta.com to get your tickets now. Construction is underway for the SilverRock Park Venue Project. The contractor is placing irrigation lines and forming sidewalks. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2020. Stage 1 of the Complete Streets construction will be wrapping up by the first of February along the Calle Tampico corridor. Stage 2 of the project will begin in February at the Avenue 52/Sinaloa and Avenida Bermudas roundabout. Check out the project progress, see photos, watch live video footage and more information at www.lqcompletestreets. com or www.laquintaca.gov/completestreets. You can also sign up for alerts and stay updated on the project progress by texting LAQUINTAVILLAGE to 22828. Also, the installation of two new pool heaters at the Fritz Burns Pool was completed in January 2020. The City received 1.9 million dollars in federal Highway Safety Improvements Program (HISP) funding to replace the existing copper wire interconnect with fiber optic cable, install new fiber optic cable lines and conduit to replace the existing wireless interconnect, and install new fiber optic interconnect along several segments to close signal communication gaps. This project is currently under construction throughout the City of La Quinta. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2020. Cove Public Restroom and Trailhead Improvements and Calle Tecate Parking Lot Improvements are underway and is anticipated to be completed by March. The Public Restroom and Trailhead Improvements include installing a prefabricated restroom facility, trail entrance signs, seating, shade, and a water fountain next to the current parking lot on the east end of Calle Tecate. The Calle Tecate Parking Lot Project will construct a 40-space parking lot on the south side of Calle Tecate near the existing trailhead to alleviate on-street parking concerns. The re-striping is also underway on the Northside of Calle Tecate to remove the parking and provide a bicycle lane.

It was a lovely young mother taking her son out for a walk around the greenbelt. The little boy is about 3 years old and reminds me of my grandson. I kept watching at how patient the mom was with him as he just stared in fascination at the tractors. It reminded me of the days when I would take my son to the fire station (everyday) after school where he would just sit and look at the firetruck. He didn’t need to climb or pretend to steer this rig, he just liked to look and we would sit for an hour or so every school day.

Let me say, I love my quiet mornings and my cup of coffee so to say I was a little “pissed off” at this interference to my morning solitude would be an understatement. I quickly walked outside and glared at the two guys, and quickly realized they were just doing their job. I retreated to my office which is overlooking the work site and began to “fire off” an email to the HOA manager when someone caught my attention.

I sat and reminisced looking at there two. The mom was so patient with him and they sat for what must have been a hour or so…. just watching. It was actually a glorious sight to behold and my day changed immediately. Like so many other things I write, there is not point to this story at all. We all know the expression’ stop and smell the roses” but I say this, “Take a pause in your routine and open your eyes, there is joy and beauty in so many things, we just need to put down our phones, get off the computer and just look round.”
