RED BULL BASEMENT FESTIVAL
was a 3 day event that focused on how creativity,
collaboration and digital technology can empower citizens in the processes of city making. The festival was the launch of a residency for programmers, which will happen annually in the Red Bull Station of S達o Paulo.
Partnership: New Institute Rotterdam Martijn de Waal, researcher Urban Media & Citizen Empowerment at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and author of the book “The City as Interface” will offer a workshop, where it will be explored how digital media can empower citizens in the process of city making and the way they experience São Paulo’s centre.
Partnership: New Institute Rotterdam Baixo Ribeiro and Laura Sobral were the facilitators for two of the discussion groups: night fluxes and urban occupation.
Partnership: New Institute Rotterdam Marcus Bastos and Brunno Carvalho were the facilitators of the two other groups: identity mapping and urban mobility.

Raquel Renn贸 initiated the discussion about financial support: private and governamental initiatives, scientific and academic fundings, different structures of working, process x product: artistic experimentations, technological innovation, open science - from hackerspaces to fablabs, urban and rural labs, and labs as non-formal educational spaces.

Workshop for hacking accessories for cycling, facilitated by Paloma Oliveira and Mateus Knelsen. The workshop was followed by a bike tour in the center of S達o Paulo, with the participation of Bikeanjos, Pedal and others.
Basement! Residency
The experimental residency programme is dedicated for programmers and developers. Five proposals were selected by the jury focusing on how digital technology can offer positive transformations for citizens urban experience in S達o Paulo center. During 12 weeks, the residents will develop their projects using the infrasctucture of the lab. During this period, they will also count with critical and practical mentoring of experts in the area of their research.
Gisela Domschke Curator of Red Bull Basement, S達o Paulo. Co-founder and artistic director of Labmovel (Prix Ars Electronica 2013). Former lecturer in the MA Interactive Media programme at Goldsmiths University, London. Since returning back to Brazil, she became the convenor of courses on the field of experience design, design thinking and innovation. She founded and managed LABMIS, the media lab of the Museu da Imagem e do Som in S達o Paulo, where she was responsible for the programme of exhibitions, workshops, artistic residencies, groups of research, festivals and partnerships with international institutions. Has also managed a number of international curatorial projects in collaboration with institutions such as British Council, AHRC, Mondriaan Foundation, Virtueel Platform, Netherlands Media Art Institute, Vivo Arte.mov, FutureEverything, and others. Red Bull Station! ! Space for integration of different artistic expressions, Red Bull Station houses in its five floors a music studio, a permanent artistic residency project, three exhibition spaces, a terrace and a cafeteria. It has a consistent full program of lectures, concerts and workshops, all with free access.!
! The building, built in 1926, was adapted to the new use, allowing a continuous exchange among artists and the general public. Right in the centre of S達o Paulo, Red Bull Station is a cultural center focusing on experimental projects of arts and music, which supplies the city with creative energy. !
! Due to the success of its artistic residency program, already in its 10th edition, we are now launching the Red Bull Basement, a permanent residency for practitioners of digital media. Once established in S達o Paulo, Red Bull Basement program aims to become global.!
