RURAL YOUTH NEEDS A PLATFORM The rural youth is generally cut off from the mainstream. Also, most of them are first-generation learners who lack basic infrastructure, connectivity, or resources. For such youth, startups and other such ideas are impossible propositions. To address this issue, GDP Foundation launched GDP Talks: Talking Talukas - Rural Youth Rising This is an initiative to provide rural students a platform so that they come up with innovative solutions to the problems faced in the agriculture, healthcare and education sector.
06
PART A
07
Rural youth is second to none. They bring their own skill sets and expertise to the table. They have a better understanding of their surroundings and are in a better position to tell what they need in today’s ever-changing
WHAT IS GDP TALKS? This is interesting
time. But where they lack is getting a platform to express themselves, a platform that is not judgemental and of a neutral colour.
GDP Talks is this platform. It is a much-needed nudge to encourage the rural youth to bring to light issues they face with respect to agriculture, healthcare, and education and put forth their suggestions to make their life better. However, what makes this initiative unique is, we won’t stop at this. We will empower the youth to turn their suggestions into reality. With experts and investors on board, the GDP Foundation can take the solution suggested by the student to a logical end along with the student. Also, though there are trophies and prizes, this is not a contest, but a Manthan of Thoughts that can be put to action for the benefit of the Rural Society.
GDP Talks is a joint activity undertaken by The GDP Foundation and its partner company, GoaBylane.

SENSING REPORT The Ground Reality
48
COL SUKHAMAN SINGH (RETD) DEPUTY DIRECTOR In the year 2018, the Ministry of Education (MoE) through MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) launched the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) program in collaboration with AICTE for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to systematically foster the culture of innovation and start-up ecosystem in education institutions. Its role is to engage large number of faculty, students and staff in various innovation and entrepreneurship related activities so that innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem gets established and stabilized in HEIs. It is designed to address the existing challenges/issues in HEIs such as less numbers, occasional and unplanned Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities organised in HEIs with low involvement of top leadership, lack of coherence and absence of synergy in resource mobilization, deployment and underutilization of creative potential of youths.
It is disheartening to know that Goa with population of about 18 Lakh has only 02 Institutes and 15 Colleges (less than 50 %) which is even less than Puducherry with population of 14 Lakh and having 3 institutes and 16 Colleges registered with MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC).
VIVEK PATIL PROJECT MANAGER CLUSTER 01: Salcete Taluka Lukewarm response from the staff of the educational institute A little resistance to the idea and hesitance to adopt this new idea Students needed a lot of coaxing and encouragement College co-ordinators became non-responsive after a point in time Students: Low Energy ---- Low Focus
CLUSTER 02: Quepem, Sanguem & Canacona Of the three colleges, two colleges were super excited and gave full-fledged support. One institute went inside their shell once the activity was rolled out Principals of two colleges went out of the way to ensure a great response Students were very enthusiastic Students and Co-ordinators became a little complacent once the entries were awarded Students: High Energy - Low Focus
CLUSTER 03: Ponda & Dharbandora A moderate response overall Students were enthusiastic in the beginning but complacent once the awards were declared Co-ordinators were not too enthusiastic during the entire process Students: Moderate Energy - Low Focus

53
We need your help We at GDP believe that every idea should be taken to a logical end. And we can only do that if industries and trade conglomerates can collaborate with us. It is time for the industries to step forward. Because these new ideas need hand-holding. These new-age entrepreneurs need your mentoring. These entrepreneurs need your

guidance to upgrade their skillsets. Imagine if a small trust like GDP can encourage students to think of innovative business ideas, imagine what wonders we can create together. Together we can strengthen Innovation Center in every college. The way we see it, this is a perfect opportunity to shed BNI's image as a very urban-centric association. WHY NOT RURAL? Together we can make a difference in the lives of the Rural Youth. BNI has immense business intel they can share with the rural youth and GDP Foundation has a bank of high potential ideas that are ready to fly. So let us join hands and rebuild the world.
