Some events have changed their planned dates twice already, hoping the CORNAVIRUS situation would have died down by now. Based on what is being sent to us now, the second half of the 2020 car show season is going to be action packed with many many choices for gearhead fun, for every part of the USA. This gearheads is why we continue to publish weekly, and also share on our social media outlets too. As we say around here, “Ya Gotta Know Where to Go To Have Gearhead Fun!” Our country and we as a people are going to get thru this situation. Our parents and grandparents did it, with no computers or any of the technology we have today. WE...ALL OF US just need to be smart, follow some simple common sense guidelines and we will make it to the other side. Fill your gas tank up...show time is coming very soon!

I got this question and more than a few more like it over the past couple of weeks, sent to me via email and social media. GREAT QUESTION Gearheads! We continue to publish and send out the GEARHEAD GAZZETTE, as well as share a lot of info on our social media pages to keep everyone up to date on what’s going on in our gearhead world. YES...a majority of shows are being cancelled due to the current situation, and stay at home directives in many but not all states. GUESS WHAT??? A good majority of these shows are RESCHEDULING or looking to reschedule the events later in the year. Both NSRA and GOODGUYS have done rescheduling already. We have NSRA’s latest revised season schedule elsewhere in this issue. GOODGUYS has sent us info which we will list on our website in the CAR SHOW section in our next upcoming update. We look for a REVISED schedule from GOODGUYS also as they work to figure out when they can

Save the Date for RacingJunk’s First Spring Race and Performance Virtual Car Show With many of us looking down the barrel of spring without live races and car show events, RacingJunk wanted to give our users a chance to share their vehicles and passions in virtual space. Saturday, April 11, 2020, RacingJunk will be hosting our first virtual car show. We are focusing on race and performance vehicles, since that’s the heart of our audience. For every diehard drag racing fan, NITRO Junkie and gearheads, those words of Top Fuel and Funny Cars to the staging lanes, means the BIG SHOW is about to go down.

The 2019 HOLLEY National Hot Rod Reunion was the place to be over Fathers Day weekend. Beech Bend Raceway opened itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s gates to racers, drag racing fans, hot rodders and yes...those NITRO JUNKIES. The Hot Rod Reunion in our opinion is one of the best all year long. Spun off from itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s big brother the California Hot Rod Reunion, this event is one of 15 those that transports us back to a time of great fun and great memories.

While the Hot Rod Reunion is about all those wonderful drag cars and racing, it is a whole lot more too. The pits are filled with all classes of race cars and the rest of the Beech Bend facility is filled with over 1500 pre-72 hot rods, customs, muscle cars and more. Judging for those that want to see how well their car or truck stands up to other vehicles is there in the drive thru judging area. Awards are handed out for the Best of the Best.

Vendors line the circle track area, so you can buy just about any kind of part you might need. Also in the circle track area are many Drag Race Heroâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and Legends. They are showing off their historic race cars and talking to all the fans too. How great is that...getting to talk to the folks who made drag racing what it is today. These guys and gals paved the way for the rest of us and what we have today to enjoy.

The Beech Bend raceway stands are unique in that they are covered to keep spectators out of the sun. Add in on the spectator side of the track, the seating is stadium style seating. 16

Closing out the weekend is the fan favorite CACKLEFEST. Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s not to like about all the nitro cars from the glory days of drag racing push starting and burning off a load of 93% Nitro in the tank.

The stands are filled almost all day long while racing is going on. The racing runs the gamut from stock classes thru the fuel classes. Yes there are favorites for everyone. The rail birds are especially out in force when the AA/ GS cars are on the track with the front wheels reaching for the sky when the light goes green. When the NDRL 7.0 class is on track, those guys on alcohol put on a heckuva show too.

Hot Rod Reunion Road Trip One great fun feature of the Hot Rod Reunion is the Annual Road trip. The road trip is put together by Ron Hope (RAT TRAP AA/FA) and Larry Hurst of the NHRA Museum. The Road tour for 2019 started at Tennessee speed sport on Thursday morning. Coffee and donuts were provided by the great folks at Tennessee speed sport for all the road tour participants. After some bench racing and story telling by the road tour participants, we headed out on the two lane blacktop, north to beech bend raceway. When we arrived at the racetrack, Larry Hurst met us and had some prime parking for all the rod tour participants. While not the longest road tour, it is nothing but fun rolling thru the southern hills and countryside with a whole bunch of hot rods and cool cars. Special Note: We lost Larry Hurst of the NHRA Museum in late 2019. He was a great guy and loved helping all the hot rodders and racers out at the hot rod reunion. He will be missed greatly.
