“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

They like the event, like the event promoter, BUT... Will you go to “Car Events” when they start to take place…..

choose from on any given weekend. Right now based on the event info we have, Sept & Oct will be event rich in most parts of the USA with multiple events being held on the same dates.

Yes we gearheads are all talking about how car shows and other gearhead type events are being cancelled or rescheduled or rescheduled for the 2nd time this year. To say it’s interesting times for our hobby is an understatement.

Back to my original question...will YOU go to any events?? Do you feel comfortable enough to go be with bigger crowds. Recently on a social media page, I saw some posts that went back and forth with the promoter of a normally well attended event in Georgia. The event got all the OK’’s from the governing bodies to hold the event. They promoted good social distancing guidelines for the event . In a re-cap of the event it was evident that the attendance was down. Some comments said they (normal attendees) wanted to come but weren’t sure if it would be safe. They like the event, like the event promoter, BUT...wanted to wait and see how it went before they venture out to next months event (event runs monthly all year).

Show promoters and venue owners are having to follow State, County and City guidelines for the current COVID-19 situation in our country. I am not getting political here, just referencing what is actually happening out there today. Believe it or don’t believe it, fact is there are guidelines and rules that have to be followed in the interest of public safety. These guidelines are forcing some tough decisions on events and event locations. The good news is, while not many, there are some events starting to take place. My personal belief is that there will be more and more actually taking place as we get further into 2020. Again, just my take on things, the fall (Late Aug thru Early Dec) will be packed with many events to

In the end when it comes to attending gearhead events these days, you have to do what you are comfortable with. There is no right or wrong decision...only your decision Live It Fully Everyday 5

NHRA Issues Schedule Update NHRA officials announced that they are working with state and local officials as well as host tracks and teams on a revised Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, which will be announced soon. The season is expected to resume, with fans in attendance, in August, and will consist of 18 total events for 2020, including the two that kicked off the season. NASCAR Announces Return to Racing NASCAR is scheduled to make its return to racing on Sunday, May 17, at Darlington Raceway, the sanctioning body announced, which will be the first of seven races over an 11-day span at two different racetracks throughout May. The race at the South Carolina track will be held without fans in attendance and is slated to be NASCAR’s first on-track action in more than two months as the sport and world in general have been on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. “NASCAR and its teams are eager and excited to return to racing and have great respect for the responsibility that comes with a return to competition,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “NASCAR will return in an environment that will ensure the safety of our competitors, officials and all those in the local community. We thank local, state and federal officials and medical experts, as well as everyone in the industry, for the unprecedented support in our return to racing, and we look forward to joining our passionate fans in watching cars return to the track.” NASCAR officials have collaborated with public health officials, medical experts and local, state and federal officials to create a comprehensive plan to ensure the health and safety of competitors and surrounding communities at the above events. All races will be strictly tailored, in every way, to follow specific guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Event procedures will be significantly modified in accordance with CDC, OSHA and state and local government recommendations — including hosting one-day shows at the above tracks, which are all within driving distance of North Carolina race shops to minimize travel and time spent in a community. There will be no practice sessions for any event, and qualifying will only be held for the Coca-Cola 600. Other adjustments include mandating the use of protective equipment, health screenings for all individuals before entering the facility and maintaining social distancing protocols throughout the event.

The full schedule is listed below: Sun., May 17 Darlington – Cup Series – 400 miles Tue., May 19 Darlington – Xfinity Series – 200 miles Wed., May 20 Darlington – Cup Series – 500 km Sun., May 24 Charlotte – Cup Series – 600 miles Mon., May 25 Charlotte – Xfinity Series – 300 miles Tue., May 26 Charlotte – Gander Outdoor Truck Series – 200 miles Wed., May 27 Charlotte – Cup Series – 500 km 7

MAY 2020: MAY 7-9: SEVIERVILLE TN: Spring 2020 Dixie Gas Show:

THIS EVENT IS A GO

AS OF APRIL 26th: After careful consideration and after a thorough review of local, state and regional data, we have decided to proceed with the Dixie Gas Show. IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. If you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell or other respiratory symptoms, please stay home. We have a large population of older participants at Dixie....many of which have come to the show for 20+ years. Help us keep them safe. 2. Avoid shaking hands. 3. Keep some hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol in your pockets as there aren't sinks available to wash your hands at Dixie. 4. Practice Distancing. Please try to keep at least 6 feet of distance between you and people that are not members of your immediate family.....even if they don't look sick. The vast majority of cases (we believe around 80%) have been contracted from asymptomatic carriers. Chip will be selling 6 foot sticks to whack anyone who gets near you. 5. Avoid unnecessary touching of

items. If you want to see the back side of the sign, either sanitize your hands before touching it or ask the owner to show you the back side of the sign. 6. Finally, we are recommending you wear a mask. Even a homemade mask can help contain the spread of this illness. I can get in to the science of masks if anyone has concerns...just message me. You may still drop trailers ONLY on Wednesday. No set up until Thursday morning at 6am. Show starts promptly at 6am Thursday - no exceptions. Call me if you have questions. Most of you have my number, if not, message me. If you do not feel comfortable coming to Dixie, we completely understand given the circumstances. If there is a piece you are looking for, feel free to send me a pic-

ture and I will try my best to keep my eyes open and help you find that piece. You may also reply to this post with a picture of what you're looking for and we can ask all attendees to help look for that item for you. If you had a delivery scheduled for Dixie and do not want to take the chance, either Chip or myself would be happy to hold this piece for you until you are ready to pick it up. Unfortunately, the Annual Vendor Dinner will be cancelled. Concessions will be available and we are working on strategies to keep everyone safe. Event being held at 3950 Newport Hwy. Story & Photography by Jimmy B

What catches your eye about a cool car or truck when you first see it, or catch a glance of it?? The color of it would probably be the answer for 90% of us. When those colors look so good on a car, smooth...flat, it means that someone did some serious bodywork to fix any little ripple or wrinkle or any type of bodywork, to get it ready to get painted. As a painter will tell you, the paint job is only a coating over the hard work. Now as many of you know, the painter will generally do the last bit of bodywork on a project car to ensure that his or hers paint job is perfect in every way. It’s their way of en is ready for color. Before those painters get to lay their hands on that car and lay down the colors, the Me Metal Masterpieces…..literally! They truly are Metal Craftsmen as the work they do is an of man hours on projects, to get them to fit and look perfect from every angle. Bare meta but rather shows them 10 fold. Over the last few years, more and more hot rod builders are choosing to show off a ca as enthusiasts to see the fruits of the metal craftsman’s labor. Truth be told after talking remain paint less...bare naked if you will, as their metal work is a sight to behold. Unless tell where there is any welding done, new metal versus original metal...etc. That is what i make it right...it’s worth the cost I the end. We have captured many images of Hot Rod Metal In various stages of completion and study them...these works of art would be right at home in any art museum. 20

etal Craftsmen are creating art. Hundreds if not thousands al does not forgive any mistakes,

ar in bare metal before giving it to the painter. This allows us to some of them, they would just a soon see the vehicles s you were in the shop when work was being done, you cant in our opinion, craftmanship is all about.
