Hot Rod & Customs Shops are looking to hire, but no one is trained….

I have noticed on different social media sites, a number of hot rod & specialty shops are looking to hire additional staffing. Some of these ads have run for a number of weeks some as long as a month.

to be able to turn idea’s and design into something usable is nothing short of phenomenal.

There are a lot of people who would love to work in the many shops looking for help. Most of them have basic knowledge of cars and maybe some welding training too. More often than not, this is not what shops are looking for. They want someone who can replace the person who left, or be as capable or better than the staff in the shop today.

This is where the conflict is for the shop owners, Do I keep looking for the seasoned car builder or take a chance on a less skilled person?

I would say go for the less skilled person.

Train them, hone them into the employee you want and need. YES it takes time and time is money, but the salary will be less then the seasoned pro, so there is a trade off. Besides if we don’t start training younger people into what we need, we wont have anyone left to work in the shops...and we don’t need that either.

Live It Fully Everyday

This is a good news story but with some down falls too.

The good new is that out hobby, love, addiction is going strong even in these very challenging times. For shops to want to add personal means that work keeps coming in the doors.

The down fall or less than good side of this is that some of these openings are created when the “old timers” who have been building cars and trucks for many years are closing their tool boxes and retiring to enjoy life more.

This loss of knowledge is HUGE for any shop. A person working in the specialty vehicle industry for 10, 20 or more years has learned his or her craft well and the knowledge and skill that they have in their head

SEMA 2020: Heidts Has Your New C10 Suspension Ready For You Adding an independent rear suspension to your C10 can be one of the coolest mods you can complete on your hauler.

There is no denying the popularity of the C10 truck. For the last several years, Chevrolet’s little hauler has been a huge focus at the SEMA show. But these are trucks, and making them handle with any performance characteristics does require some work. Thankfully, the folks at Heidts Hot Rod And Musclecar Parts have done the work for you.

Whether you are planning to upgrade the front or rear suspension, Heidts has you covered. For the ultimate rear suspension, you can choose the Heidts bolt-in Pro-G IRS. This upgrade features Wilwood Engineering brakes and adjustable, billet coilover shocks. A Currie Enterprises 9-inch rear is available with either a 62- or 65-inch track width. What’s more, the IRS kit works with both a stock frame or Heidts’ frame and can be used on both short- and long-bed applications. Since it is an IRS, you will also have adjustable camber and toe settings.

Upfront, you can choose to install Heidts’ boltin Superide II. It too comes with Wilwood brakes and makes use of Heidts’ 2-inch drop spindle. Adjustable coilover shocks and a sway bar are part of the package. Finally, Heidts tubular upper and lower control arms and a powerassisted steering rack are included You also have another rear suspension choice in Heidts’ bolt-in four-link. This comes with a 64-inch track width, double-adjustable link tubes made from 1.75-inch DOM, 1-inch rod ends, and an optional fabricated rearend housing. The suspension also allows for adjustable ride height. Rounding out this option, you’ll find an adjustable three-position Panhard bar, billet aluminum shock mounts, built-in driveshaft loop. And billet, adjustable coilover shocks.

We will be in the parking lot near the Amphitheater, just like last year. Parade leaves at 11am, and arrives at the moose lodge at 4615 Fengenbush Lane at noon. It’s about a 12mile parade. Hot rodders could not ask for a better day! The weather warmed up quickly and that brought hot rodders in their cars and trucks in big numbers.

The gearheads drove in from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, along with lots of spectator getting out of their houses to check out everything the DMC club had going on.

If it’s a DMC event, you have to have some NITRO at the event.

The Comanche AA/FD made the trip up from Massachusetts. They did not disappoint the Top Fuel Lovers either!

Car show, swap meet, Nitro race car and a lot more made for a great day.

Thanks to all who attended and a big thanks for following the social distancing guidelines and wearing the masks to make it a SAFE EVENT. The DMC club is working on next years event so keep an eye out for more info on what day it will take place in 2021. We will have it listed here in the GEARHEAD GAZETTE for you.

NOV 2020: NOV 26-29: DAYTONA BEACH FL: 47th ANNUAL Daytona Turkey Run: The Turkey Run is the largest combined Collector Car Show, Swap Meet and Car Corral in the USA. Car enthusiasts from across the US and internationally make their way twice a year to racing's most celebrated location, the Daytona International Speedway.

Started in 1974. The event is held on Thanksgiving weekend and the last weekend in March. Participants and spectators enjoy more than 6000 vintage, classic, muscle cars, trucks and other wheeled vehicles displayed for show and sale. The show also includes over 2500 swap meet spaces, an Artisan Alley, Live Entertainment and many types of food. In its history, more than $7 million of profits from the Turkey Run have funded charitable organizations as well as many local programs, projects & recreational facilities. FOR SALE: 1928 FORD TRUCK: I built the pickup myself. It has been on the road since 2012. I have built about 5 street rods, myself. I am not a kid, as I have been building street rods for a number of years. This rod has a boxed frame that has been extended about 30 inches in length. It goes all the way back to the tailgate. Regular cab size. it has a 4.3 Chev Vortex motor, 700R4 tranny, a S-10 rearend (3.08 gears). 4 bar system front & back suspension, coil over shocks in the rear. 4 inch dropped front axle with 2 inch dropped spindles. Unistear steering (rack & pinion). GM column, Ron Frances wiring, bear claw latches in the door closure, Dolphin dash gauges. Black vinyl bucket seats, tilt GM column, Rides and drives excellent.
