schedule. For many years since we actually turned the GEARHEAD GAZZETTE into a magazine (Thanks Butch Pate!), we have published each issue on a weekly schedule...52 weeks a year.

We wanted it to get here and it did...2021 has arrived, ready or not. The new year brings a re-fresh in my opinion. We kinda’ need a re-fresh after 2020.

Starting with this issue, we are moving to a BI-WEEKLY publication schedule. While we will publish a reduced number of issues each year, we will not reduce any of the content or coverage. One big thing is you will be able to find the car show /event listings in one place now instead of 2 different areas in the magazine.

I learned a long time ago to appreciate everyday. If I can get up out of bed, then it’s a good day. Yes there may be things going on that don’t make the day spectacular, but hey, we are still up and at it as they say.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you didn't read page 3 of this issue, go back and see page 3 of this issue for our 1st quarter publication schedule. It’s important for you to know so we can make sure to get your event info timely so it makes it into the right issue.

I never wish my life away either. Damn thing goes so fast already, no point in trying to make it go faster. I am trying to find the brake lever to give it a tug so I can cram more fun into each day. The new year takes us into our 21st year of this thing called the GEARHEAD GAZZETTE. From a simple email to a few friends 21 years ago abut some car shows we might want to go to, to averaging 40K readers a month now with a full on-line magazine. As the saying goes, “We Come A Long Way Baby!”

There will be some other changes to the pages of the magazine too in upcoming issues. We working on making it easier to read each issue and finding each section. Don’t be afraid to tell us what you think. All feedback is good as we learn from it. Let me close out this column by wishing everyone a GREAT 2021. 2020 is behind us and nothing but lots of gearhead fun is ahead!

NHRA Announces Eight Race Heritage Hot Rod Series Nostalgia racing fans rejoice! The NHRA has announced the eight-race schedule for the 2021 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, featuring the NHRA Motorsports Museum’s Hot Rod Reunions. The series will include nitro-burning Nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters and Nostalgia Funny Cars. These races are always crowd-pleasers, I mean who doesn’t love the smell of nitro and burnt rubber in the morning. The 2021 action begins at the Heritage Nostalgia Reunion, April 29-May 1 at Sacramento Raceway. The NHRA has been battling rescheduling and cancellations for almost a full year, and they still are. The traditional season opening Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway was postponed until May due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be the series’ third event, following the Ignitor Funny Car Opener at Firebird Raceway. The series visits those three tracks twice, as well as Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park in September for the Nostalgia Nitro Nationals and Beech Bend Raceway Park for the National Hot Rod Reunion. The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California will produce two Hot Rod Reunions during the season. The National Hot Rod Reunion will be held at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. June 17-19, while the California Hot Rod Reunion will close the season at Auto Club Famoso Raceway Oct. 22-24. Nostalgia Top Fuel will compete for points at five events during the season and Nostalgia Funny Car will compete for points at six events. The NHRA has also announced two additional classes to join the Nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters and Nostalgia Funny Cars. Group 1 includes A/Fuel, Jr. Fuel, and 7.0 Eliminator, while Group 2 includes Nostalgia Eliminator l, Nostalgia Eliminator ll, Nostalgia Eliminator lll, A/ Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, D/Gas, and Hot Rod Eliminator. Drivers in each class will be able to run a combination of events that will award them points toward their respective championships. Sacramento Raceway April 29-May 1

Hennessey Performance Unveils Venom F5 Hennessey Performance has unveiled the production version of its Venom F5 hypercar, ahead of customer deliveries in 2021 – the company’s 30th anniversary year. The all-new, 100% bespoke Venom F5 is built with immense power, low weight and meticulously honed dynamics, the company said, and boasts extraordinary handling and a truly visceral experience behind the wheel. Priced at $2.1 million dollars, just 24 versions of the Venom F5 will be produced with each example unique to its owner. The car will be powered by the Hennessey-built 6.6-liter twinturbocharged V8 engine named ‘Fury,’ which delivers 1,817 hp at 8,000 rpm and packs 1,193 lb.-ft. of torque. Deploying this level of power in a car weighing just 2,998 lb. results in a 0-62 mph (100 kph) time of less than three seconds, and it will complete a 0-124 mph (200 kph) run in under five seconds. The F5 is targeting a top speed of more than 311 mph (500 kph) that the company will attempt to verify with a transparent and independently verified top speed run in 2021. The Venom F5 project is overseen by company Founder and CEO John Hennessey, who has shaped every aspect of the car’s specification, design and development. John has combined knowledge from the company’s past 30 years of making fast cars faster with the highest levels of specialist engineering talent. “Our customers love speed, so we’re fired-up to push the boundaries of what’s possible to attempt the world’s fastest production car record, but the Venom F5 is about more than just speed and power,” said Hennessey. “This car will handle superbly, quality is exceptional, there are more than 3,000 bespoke parts, materials are exquisite, everything is a fitting tribute to 30 years of the Hennessey brand.” The car’s dynamics have been developed by Hennessey’s in-house dynamics guru – US racing driver and vehicle set-up expert John ‘Heinrocket’ Heinricy. The F5 will complete top speed testing in the first half of 2021 at the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida. Subsequent top speed runs will follow an intense period of real-world development at Hennessey’s own testing facility, plus the Circuit of The Americas – with John Heinricy leading the development team and conducting the bulk of hands-on testing.
