“pick one and go to it” Get Ready to have a WHOLE LOT of gearhead fun this year… I have to tell you...been waiting a long time to say those words above. All of us have been waiting to hear them also. Things are getting better for all of us day by day. Thank goodness for that. It’s been a rough year or more to say the least and not just car style events being affected. This issue of the GEARHEAD GAZZETTE is loaded with shows and cruise events from each of the region in the USA we list them from. It’s been a long time since we have seen this many shows in one issue. Also if you check out our website at www.gearheadgazzette.com and click on the CAR SHOW or CRUISE IN pages, you will find LOTS...LOTS of gearhead events. On the CAR SHOW page we have six months of shows listed and we are adding more every day. Here in the early part of 2021, some events have in fact been cancelled or postponed to a later date. This is being done due local and state requirements around the COVID-19 situation. I am not getting political on COVID, but lets all be

understanding to the show organizers who are working within the guidelines they are given. Based on some events having to be moved to hold them, they are falling on top of other events...same dates...same weekends. Some folks out there have been complaining about events falling on the same days. Get over it folks! If two of your favorite events fall on the same, pick one and go to it. Luckily we have choices to make this year versus a whole lot of nothing last year. Spring is right around the corner as they say, so get out in the garage, shop or wherever you keep your cool ride and get it cleaned up, fueled up and ready to hit the blacktop. Chevy Silverado Gets The Callaway Treatment What is the custom builder doing to one of America's favorite trucks?

For years, Callaway has made a name for itself for their tuned-up Chevys that push ridiculous horsepower numbers. It all started with their twin-turbo Vette back in the day and have continued the passion up to 2021 with their new supercharged Chevrolet Silverado. Paving the way to the future for Callaway, this truck comes with all kinds of goodies that take an already great truck to the next level. Exterior, interior, carbon fiber you name it, this truck has the whole shebang and of course, no Callaway vehicle would be complete without a few more ponies under the hood. Speaking of horsepower, this truck certainly delivers on performance sporting an incredible 165 additional horses and 107 lb-ft of torque being added to the already staggering horsepower that the truck is putting down the stock. So how does Callaway do it? They take the blistering 6.2L Chevy V8 that comes stock in the new Silverados and apply the 3rd gen Callaway supercharging system. This includes an Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger, then to add some more power and performance benefits they give the truck an upgraded intake, the Callaway triple cooled intercooler, chrome tip quad-exhaust, a dual output exhaust system, and it's all controlled by the CalCal engine management system. All of those extra pieces translate to a wicked 585-horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque, that power can be found mostly in the lower RPMs with those particular numbers sitting in at around 3,850rpm. On the exterior one would find a custom Callaway carbon fiber grill, Callaway badges, and either 9 spoke anthracite or 10 spoke satin black wheels depending on the buyer's preference. Moving to the interior you’re greeted by Alcantara trim, Aluminum pedals, an embossed horn cover, and a myriad of other interior design features that let you know that this is a Callaway. This Callaway package is compatible with the Trailboss, High Country, and LTZ trim and can be purchased through any Chevy dealer with a 3-year 36,000-mile warranty. This truck would be the perfect addition to any power-crazed truck lover and with such accessibility, to these beasts, it may very well be the coolest truck on the market today. 6

A serious, sincere "shout out" to all the folks who jumped up, jumped in and contributed to help make Bonneville's Women of Land Speed Racing a reality. Yes, it was a bit of a "push & shove" fest, but Oh, what we did! THANK YOU ALL! I wholeheartedly agree with Victor Hugo who said, "Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come." Thus it was with this book to showcase the contributions of women in motorsports, specifically on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It's the first of its kind. Phone calls, emails, and letters came and went at a furious pace, interacting with more than 300 individuals to identify and summarize ladies of speed deeds. A list was started that now has 260 verified names. The book is done and in the hands of Arcadia Publishing, who are now transforming the mini manuscript, captioned photos and list into a printed, ALLCOLOR book by August 2021. Paula Murphy, the first woman to race a jet on the salt in 1964 is our "Cover Girl." Sneak peek at the Table of Contents: Chapter 1. Fast Females on Four Wheels: They have driven speed machines from tiny to thunderous, all fabulous, mostly one-off expressions of mechanical and aerodynamic artistry. Chapter 2. Land Speed Lady List: The first known collection of verified and documented women who have left the starting line to set hundreds of land speed records – both national and world – on the Bonneville Salt Flats. The list includes speed machine designers, fabricators and mechanics as well as the wondrous wizards “behind the curtain” who make racing on the salt a reality.

Plans are being made to host book signings at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials and the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association's World of Speed in September. Head's Up!, the next issue of Bonneville Racing News has a special feature on the book that reveals -- for the first time -- when and how ladies got the right to race on the salt. 7

YOU NEED TO KNOW!! SEMA Challenges EPA Motorsports Regulations SEMA has filed an amicus brief in a lawsuit between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Gear Box Z. Inc. (GBZ) arguing against EPA’s contention that the Clean Air Act (CAA) does not allow a motor vehicle to be converted into a racing vehicle used solely for competition, the organization announced. The EPA is currently arguing that once a vehicle has been certified as a street vehicle, it cannot be converted into a racing vehicle even if that vehicle is trailered to the track and is never driven on public roads. SEMA is currently arguing that the Clean Air Act does not apply to certified vehicles used exclusively on the track, the organization said in a statement announcing the brief. For more information, read the amicus brief here: SEMA filed an amicus brief in a lawsuit between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Gear Box Z. Inc. The EPA first pursued this controversial interpretation of the CAA as part of a 2015 draft rulemaking, but it quickly withdrew the provision following a huge, SEMA-led public outcry. In the GBZ litigation, however, the EPA again maintains that once a vehicle has been certified as a street vehicle, it cannot be converted into a racing vehicle even if that vehicle is trailered to the track and is never driven on public roads. In its brief, SEMA argues that the Clean Air Act does not apply to certified vehicles used exclusively on the track. SEMA states that “the agency’s interpretation breaks from the plain language of the CAA, the legislative history, and EPA’s regulations and guidance.” SEMA notes that the EPA’s position contradicts its longstanding guidance and regulations and has previously stated that it “has no interest in vehicles that begin their existence as normal, EPA-certified production vehicles used on public roads and are then permanently converted to sanctioned competition-use only vehicles.” In response to the EPA’s efforts to regulate race parts, members of Congress introduced SEMA-sponsored legislation to confirm what had already been understood for the previous 45 years, that the Clean Air Act did not apply to vehicles modified for racing use only. The “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act” (RPM Act) is bipartisan legislation to clarify that it is legal to make emissions-related changes to a street vehicle for the purpose of converting it into a dedicated race car. It also confirms that it is legal to produce, market and install racing equipment. SEMA continues to work tirelessly to pass this important legislation to counter EPA overreach. The GBZ case is before the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. The Court has agreed to take up the issue after the EPA has responded to SEMA’s amicus brief. SEMA will continue to fight the EPA’s flawed interpretation in court while urging the U.S. Congress to end the debate by enacting the RPM Act.

NHRA Prepares for Expansion of Electric Vehicle Racing The NHRA is set to host a panel discussion regarding electric vehicle racing during the upcoming NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, the organization announced and is requesting industry and manufacturer input on the topic. In an effort to look ahead to the next steps in the advancement of electric drag racing, the NHRA has extended an open invitation to interested parties to participate in an open dialogue on the topic. This invitation includes, but is not limited to, OEM auto manufacturers, aftermarket parts suppliers, racecar builders and companies that specialize in safety and fire suppression. The first of numerous proposed meetings are scheduled to take place during the upcoming Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, March 12-14. “From the vision that Wally Parks had when he founded NHRA in 1951 to our current ‘Speed for All’ campaign, NHRA has always strived to provide a welcoming environment not just for competitors from all walks of life, but also to accommodate a very wide variety of vehicles, and that includes electric cars and motorcycles,” said Ned Walliser, NHRA vice president-competition. “It’s certainly no secret that electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular with consumers, and the technology associated with them continues to move forward at a rapid pace.
