fascinating things to a young kid getting bitten by the car/mechanical bug. Patience is probably a dads biggest asset/virtue. When we as kids tried to help and we took a tool and proceeded to help fix( name what you did, sand a good paint job, hammer a panel, loosen bolts and not tell dad), Dad would just give us a look, you know the look, but tell us what we did wrong and show us how to fix and repair what we did that didn’t need doing...LOL True PATIENCE My dad was that way. He is the one who took the time to show me how to do things. He was a heckuva mechanic and I learned so much from him. When I thought I knew it all and waded into a project, he let me, but when I finally asked for help, he showed me how to do the job right. He never complained...just helped me. Like many others, I lost my dad. My dad passed away more than a few years ago. He was just shy of 93 when he went to be with mom. Miss him everyday. But I will say, when I make a bone head move...I feel a thump to the back of my head...thanks Dad

Shelby American Unveils ‘Cammer Cobra’ Concept SHELBY AMERICAN recently unveiled the “Cammer Cobra” concept, a 427 SOHC V8-powered continuation Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, at the Carlisle Ford Nationals presented by Meguiar’s in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

According to the company, the “Cammer Cobra” follows Carroll Shelby’s initial vision for a racecar to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “Carroll Shelby wanted to fit a massive Ford big block engine into a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe for Le Mans in 1964,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American. “While many know that a one-off car was built with a 427 ‘wedge’ Ford engine, that was not Carroll Shelby’s initial vision. He hoped to pair the sleek aerodynamics of the Peter Brock designed body with the incredibly powerful aluminum single overhead cam version of the FE motor. Since it was impossible to obtain one of those rare engines in time for the race, Shelby American installed the NASCAR version. Our concept car was built to realize Carroll’s initial Cammer vision.” Built by Legendary GT of Pennsylvania, a builder of continuation Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupes for Shelby American, the Cammer Cobra has an aluminum body over a 3-inch lengthened chassis with a hood modified to accommodate the aluminum 427 SOHC big block motor. The 650-horsepower engine is mated to a period-correct 4-speed manual transmission and the car was assigned Shelby serial number CSX2623 and will be documented in the official Shelby Registry. In 1964, Carroll Shelby tasked fabricator John Ohlsen with lengthening the chassis of one of the six Daytona Coupes (CSX2286). Shelby planned to replace the 289 c.i.d. Ford engine with the SOHC motor for the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, it was impossible to secure the SOHC motor in time and a reliable, high-performance NASCAR 427 was used instead. Weighing about 2,200 pounds with world class aerodynamics and the power of a big block, the car had tremendous performance potential; it was thought capable of going 200-plus miles per hour at Le Mans, according to Shelby American. However, the car did not make the race and never ran a lap with the 427 SOHC when Shelby American returned it to small block configuration. The continuation big block Shelby Daytona Coupe follows the same specs as the Ohlsen modified racecar. 11

Buick Unveils Wildcat EV Concept In addition to announcing its future as an all-electric brand, Buick also unveiled its new Wildcat EV concept, which the company is calling a “vision of the brand’s new design direction as it transitions to an all-electric future.” The Wildcat was developed to convey the all-new design language that will influence Buick production models for the foreseeable future, company representatives said. Buick’s new tri-shield logo, which new production models will wear starting next year, is featured on the body front and rear. “The Wildcat EV concept represents the real design future for the brand,” said Sharon Gauci, executive director, Global Buick and GMC Design. “Buick has always been forward looking and this expression is a glimpse of where we’re going, and the optimism we have for the limitless possibilities of an electric future.” The Wildcat EV concept also introduces a new face for Buick, distinguished by a forward-leaning front-end appearance that features a low-mounted, trapezoidal grille, designers said. Sharp, highmounted and horizontal check mark-shaped lighting flanks the vehicle, while the outer edges of the grille house primary lighting. The lighting elements are configured to create a unique welcome choreography when the driver approaches. Further, the vehicle — a two-plus-two coupe — strikes a powerful, expressive presence, with an allnew, laid-back proportion complemented by a low, wide stance, the company said. The windshield wraps around and flows into the side glass, which tapers with the fast roofline to accentuate the profile. “From every angle, the vehicle looks like it’s ready to pounce,” said Bob Boniface, director, Global Buick Design. “It’s the result of careful attention to the proportions and sculptural beauty derived from the intersection of forms, not lines.” Additional exterior design highlights include: Semi-swing doors for easy entry and exit, Aluminum trim that appears to flow seamlessly into the interior seat structures, Micro-LED lighting technology and thin-beam projector lenses for the front lighting, Blade-style taillights embedded in the roof’s sail panels, culminating in check mark-style horizontal lamps that echo the front lighting signature, An external “state of charge” indicator visible in the exterior hatchback glass & Jet Age-inspired 18spoke “turbine” wheels. 12

Cobra Experience Museum to Celebrate Shelby Anniversary with Cobra Gathering The Cobra Experience will celebrate Shelby American’s 60th anniversary with the year’s largest display of Shelby Cobras in the U.S., as well as other classic Ford vehicles, on Saturday, June 4 for its 8th Annual Cobra Day in Martinez, California, the museum announced. Free to all spectators, the event will also include the announcement of the winner of a rare Northern California two-owner 1968 Shelby GT500KR (King of the Road) that is part of the Cobra Experience sweepstakes. “To celebrate Shelby American’s 60th anniversary, we’re planning the largest display of original Shelby Cobras in the United States this year,” said Emily Lambert, managing director of The Cobra Experience. “Our show will feature over 125 Shelby Cobras and other special Ford cars. To make the event even more immersive, those who donate to the museum that day could enjoy a ride in an original Shelby Cobra or other classic Ford during the ‘Final Cruise Lap’ at the close of the show. And someone will become ‘King of the Road’ by winning the 1968 Shelby GT500KR.” The Cobra Experience sweepstakes winner will take home a first-generation Shelby GT500KR. The rare, low mileage, Northern California-only car is one of only 51 total 1968 fastbacks in this specific color and options configurations. It was purchased new in 1968 and has had only 2 owners in its 53 years. The Petersen Automotive Museum will honor the 90th anniversary of the 1932 Ford with a new national holiday, Hot Rod Day on June 11, and celebrate the special day with its new “Ford Fever: The Deuce Turns 90” exhibit in the Ross and Beth Myers Gallery. Opening to the public on June 11, the new exhibit includes a definitive collection of groundbreaking 1932 Fords such as Doane Spencer’s historic Highboy and the influential McGee Roadster. Luminaries from the hot-rod world, including ZZ Top frontman Billy F Gibbons and Henry Ford III, will gather for the special Deuce Gala the evening of the opening with a live performance by Gibbons, an award ceremony, and a once-in-a-lifetime live auction. Stars of the new “Ford Fever: The Deuce Turns 90” exhibit include the famous McGee 1932 Roadster. Originally owned and built by Bob McGee, it paved the way for hot rods by combining speed and beauty with its shaved door handles, welded decklid, louvers and seamless look. McGee’s Roadster would later make appearances in a host of television shows and movies, including “Hot Rod Gang” and an episode of “Happy Days,” before being showcased on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Another icon on display is Doane Spencer’s 1932 Ford Highboy, which won several show awards in the 1940s. Bored with the show circuit, Spencer took his Highboy racing at El Mirage and extensively modified it for Mexico’s Carrera Panamericana road race. Other iconic 1932 Fords on display include the coupes of Doyle Gammell and Andy Kassa and the roadsters of Ermie Immerso and Ray Brown. Held the same evening as the exhibit’s opening, the Deuce Gala is a mid-year celebration recognizing luminaries in the hot-rod world. The museum will present the Hot Rod Icon Award to legendary musician Billy F Gibbons, the frontman for the rock group ZZ Top and a renowned automotive enthusiast. Tickets are $250 and consist of a 45-minute performance from Gibbons, access to a live auction, complimentary dinner, an open bar and admission to the annual Deuce Day Cruise-In taking place the following day. Capping off the weekend is the Petersen’s annual Deuce Day Cruise-in, where many of the museum’s greatest hot rods, including several AMBR winners, will be involved in what is slated to be one of the largest gatherings of 1932 Fords in Southern California. “The 1932 Fords are marquee vehicles synonymous with the origins of hot rodding and worthy of an extended celebration,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. JUNE 2022: JUNE 11-12: LOS ANGELES CA: PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM CELEBRATES THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ICONIC 1932 FORD: A brand-new exhibit with the most legendary 1932 Fords ever built, a special gala featuring a live performance by ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons, and a mas-

sive cruise-in will celebrate the renowned hot rods. The Petersen Automotive Museum will honor the 90th anniversary of the 1932 Ford with a new national holiday, Hot Rod Day on June 11, and celebrate the special day with its new “Ford Fever: The Deuce Turns 90” exhibit in the Ross and Beth Myers Gallery. Opening to the public on June 11, the new exhibit includes a definitive collection of groundbreaking 1932 Fords such as Doane Spencer’s historic Highboy and the influential McGee Roadster. Luminaries from the hot-rod world, including ZZ Top frontman Billy F Gibbons and Henry Ford III, will gather for the special Deuce Gala the evening of the opening with a live performance by Gibbons, an award ceremony and a once-in-a-lifetime live auction.

On Sunday, June 12, the museum’s annual Deuce Day Cruise-In will be hosted at the Petersen Automotive Museum and will attempt to be the largest gathering of 1932 Fords in Southern California. Stars of the new “Ford Fever: The Deuce Turns 90” exhibit include the famous McGee 1932 Roadster. Originally owned and built by Bob McGee, it paved the way for hot rods by combining speed and beauty with its shaved door handles, welded decklid, louvers and seamless look. Another icon on display is Doane Spencer’s 1932 Ford Highboy, which won several show awards in the 1940s. Other iconic 1932 Fords on display include the coupes of Doyle Gammell and Andy Kassa and the roadsters of Ermie Immerso and Ray Brown. Held the same

evening as the exhibit’s opening, the Deuce Gala is a mid-year celebration recognizing luminaries in the hot-rod world. The museum will present the Hot Rod Icon Award to legendary musician Billy F Gibbons, the frontman for the rock group ZZ Top and a renowned automotive enthusiast. Tickets are $250 and consist of a 45-minute performance from Gibbons, access to a live auction, complimentary dinner, an open bar and admission to the annual Deuce Day Cruise-In taking place the following day. Capping off the weekend is the Petersen’s annual Deuce Day Cruise-in, where many of the museum’s greatest hot rods, including several AMBR winners, will be involved in what is slated to be one of the largest gatherings of 1932 Fords in Southern California. “The 1932 Fords are marquee vehicles synonymous with the origins of hot rodding and worthy of an extended celebration,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Goodguys brought the 2022 Event road show to middle Tennessee with the 16th Annual BASF Nashville Nationals presented by Blueprint Engines, smack dab in the middle of May of this year. Prior to the event actually taking place, everyone was wondering how the move to the Nashville Super Speedway in Lebanon Tennessee would work. Gearheads can get stuck in their ways and after a 15 year run in downtown Nashville at NISSAN stadium, a lot of questions were floating around on social media sites. Guess what??? The new location worked out GREAT!

The Nashville Super Speedway allowed more room to spread the event out so it can grow some more and we believe it will do just that. Few minor things need changing and we are betting GOODGUYS will get those things taken care of by next years event. We haven't heard the final registered number but we would bet it was as good as many other years of this event. Spectator turnout was great too. American Sunday, with all the other events within the event, there was so much to see and do for everyone in attendance this year. The Nashville Nationals is home for the GOODGUYS Tanks HOT ROD OF THE YEAR competition. Entries from all over the USA make their way to Music City to be part of the HROTY fun. Truly it is fun as contestants have to drive their cars over 100 miles, hit the drag strip with a burnout and make all the stops along the route. For 2022, congratulations goes out to Mike Whitney from Ohio for wining the HROTY with his homebuilt ‘32 Roadster.

After 3 fun filled days of sunshine and cool rides, the last cars pulled out after the awards ceremony to head for home. While the 16th Nashville Nationals is in the books as a success, make plans now to attend the 17th Annual event in 2023. The Thursday night Goodguys Kickoff party was held at Charlie’s Custom Creations & Machines in Murfreesboro Tennessee. Charlie Swanson and his team threw open the doors of the shop and showed everyone a great time with good old Tennessee BBQ, Music and plenty to look at being built in their shop. Thanks Charlie!
