Ya Gotta know where to Go...The FUN Starts Here “Tell ya what to do...go have some gearhead fun” Things are looking up...time to push the throttle down harder ... Welcome to March gearheads. If you didn't know it, the first two months of the year are officially gone. As I write this, making my plans for the trip up north to the Motor City and the 69th Annual Autorama show and everything that goes with DEE-Troit! A lot of people wondered if the Autorama or many other indoor shows and events would even take place this winter. Covid has played heck for promotors and show goers for the last 1215months. Glad to say that the folks that produce and host the Autorama are moving full speed ahead AND that NO MASKS OR VACCINE CARDS will be required to enter the show or during the show! Awesome news. No reason for anyone to avoid the Autorama show this year. Come on out and see and support one of the best indoor shows across America. After a one year hiatus, car owners, builders and show goers are ready for some big time fun in Detroit.

The GEARHEAD GAZZETTE will be there to cover all the fun, cool cars and trucks and share it all with you. Make sure to follow us on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and TWITTER as we will be posting up all kinds of cool stuff right from the show. You know you want to know who makes the GREAT 8 this year! Spring and daylight savings time are about to kick in this month. That means more time for gearhead fun each day. We can tell you that we see a DEFINITE INCREASE in spring/summer/fall car shows and cruise-in’s based on all the info being sent to us to share! Now instead of complaining about shows being cancelled or postponed, y’all are going to be complaining about shows being on top of each other on the same day. Compared to what we have had the past two summers, I’ll take having to choose between two events on the same day...a good problem for sure. Rat Trap Racing Announces New Team Member Mount Pleasant, TN — Ron Hope, owner/driver of the infamous Rat Trap AA/Fuel Altered has announced that his grandson Michael Hope is to take the wheel of a new Rat Trap Altered. “We purchased the PRO 7.0 car ‘Mechanical Bull’ from Ronny Robbins,” said Michael’s father Brian who can most often be seen driving Rich Guasco’s Pure Hell AA/Fuel Altered when he is not wrenching on father Ron’s Rat Trap. “The Keith Black Hemipowered T-bodied car will be run under the Rat Trap Racing banner,” continued Brian, “and it will, of course, be painted in Rat Trap style by Jeff Embrey at Embrey’s Customotive and lettered master striper by Dennis Jones.” “Ronny’s quickest and fastest times on alcohol were 6.94/199. Not quite the magic 200 but hopefully with a little time behind the wheel Michael will be hitting the magic numbers.” 22-year-old Michael is no stranger to the dragstrip having been around the family’s numerous racecars, including Rat Trap, since Ron resurrected the car in 1995. He is currently the clutch man on the Hilton Family Great Expectations II Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster and an all-rounder on Tony Lombardi’s PRO 7.0 front engine dragster. Prior to these duties he was the clutch assistant on Mike Morrell’s ‘Little City Charger’ fuel Funny Car. “I’ve been around drag racing and Bonneville cars my whole life,” said Michael who works at the family business Trailer Cabinets/Technocraft in Mount Pleasant, TN. “Now, it’s my turn to carry on the family tradition of driving an altered and we thought a PRO 7.0 car was a good place to start. We’ll have the car on display at the Goodguys 16th BASF Nashville Nationals and at the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion but I won’t drive it until later in the year.” 8

Our opinion is that while good for the original owners of the business, this will have an effect on pricing of the parts you as a consumer will be buying. As more companies are bought up, monopolies will happen and choices will go down and part pricing up. May not happen today, but watch out in the near future.

We have been working hard over the past 18 months or so to get TRJ back on track, including a move to our new facility in Denton, Maryland, photographing new articles for the upcoming issue and a host of other business related items. In 2022 we plan to resume a normal publishing schedule. We are working on two immediate goals to get us back on track. First, we are very far along in publishing TRJ #85 and aim to get it out to subscribers and dealers as soon as possible. The second is that we are working on shipping/reshipping all orders that have been placed but have not been received. Until we have taken care of these issues, we are not accepting new orders for subscriptions, back issues or merchandise. Some of the finest vehicles in the country were in competition for the “GO FOR THE GOLD” Award. The judges choose vehicles for the “FINE NINE” awards and then the best of the nine is chosen the big winner. This year The Dirty Martini, a 1961 Chevrolet Impala built by BIG OAK Garage and owned by Dan Duffy of Marietta GA won the big trophy and $10,000.00 too! Hard choice for the judges as the other eight vehicles were all right there too!

The “Rockin’ Billy Bash” takes place down on the lower section of the center. Filled with all kinds of cool rat rods, vintage builds, patina covered rides and so much more too! In the arena there were mini-bike

races going on , a demo derby on Saturday night, hooning, a pin-up contest, pinstripers auctions each day and live rock-a -billy music too. Outside there was a car corral and you could take a ride in a giant 4x4 truck to get your blood flowing a little faster. You definitely have to have some comfortable shoes on for this event, as you will be doing a lot of walking if you truly want to see everything at the show, plus all those cool vehicles. For us, this was our first go to the show but we can say it wont be our last trip to this show..

If all this wasn't enough, you can always stop in at the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Hall of Fame Museum in Tulsa also. Just more gearhead fun on TULSA TIME!
