COMMENT With the burgeoning hotel-slash-private members’ club market showing no signs of slowing in the capital, this issue we’ve explored the interiors of two of London’s most eagerly anticipated new venues, The Ned and The Curtain – both of which bring a distinctly different offer to the table. Though the face of London’s business district is slowly beginning to change with the arrival of new, forward-looking tech names, nightlife is still thin on the ground – something The Ned is keen to change. With it’s nine stylish restaurants and late night lounge bar, it is certainly a trailblazer when it comes to drawing the evening crowds into the more traditional banking areas. It certainly helps, however, that the property is housed in a frankly magnificent former Midland bank building, complete with original green verdite marble columns, walnut panelled counters and stainless steel safe deposit boxes. Find out more from page 38. For New York hotelier, Michael Achenbaum, The Curtain represented something of a different challenge. A far cry from the architecture and vibe of London’s financial district, Shoreditch is an-ever changing melting point, full to the brim with creative and entrepreneurial talent. Deciding how best to harness and attract this clientele, while differentiating from nearby competition such as Shoreditch House, was therefore key for Michael. The artful balance of sophistication and whimsy within The Curtain’s interior is integral to carving this unique identity. Texas-based hospitality design firm, Duncan Miller Ullmann, has created an interior concept inspired by the eclectic mix of art, fashion and architecture within the community, while still maintaining an air of exclusivity. As well-executed, well-designed venues such as these begin to strike away from the norms of their districts and their competitors, it surely opens up an exciting new creative chapter for London’s hospitality scene.

Q&A

Celia Chu, Celia Chu Design As the principal and visionary of her eponymous interior design firm, Celia Chu is renowned for her elegant, rich interiors – ever inspired by her passion for the creative arts. Born and raised in Taipei, Celia has built a distinguished portfolio of national and international clients and is a designated designer for some of the world’s major hotel brands. Here, she discusses her formative influences, why The Guggenheim Museum inspires her use of artwork, and the exciting projects she has in store.

Who was inspirational to you early in your career, and why? Tony Chi, who completed the Grand Hyatt Taipei ten years ago in my hometown of Taipei, which I was very impressed by. It made me want to pursue my dream to study in New York and widen my eyes as a designer. After graduation, I worked for him for a few years, from an intern to a professional. It was the early and insightful chapter of my journey to date. How would you describe your design approach? Each project is undertaken with its own unique approach and appropriate narratives that reflect the sensibility and the spirit of our aesthetic. We capture every idea from culture and background, which make our designs unique and hard to copy. With different clients come different strategies. Above all, the craftsmanship reflecting the culture and the artistic sense is the one key aspect that I like to show in every project. What would you say has been the biggest professional challenge for you so far? To be honest, PEOPLE! People have always been the most critical part in my career thus far. I wish I could learn the magic to deal with them all. How to communicate with the clients, with the contractors, with my staff, can be the key to making a project successful or not. I aspire to be a good communicator, whoever I am talking to.

Q&A

What is your proudest achievement, as a designer, to date? I have genuinely enjoyed every project I have completed to date, but if I had to pick one, I would say it would be the ‘White Rose Chapel’ in Grand Hyatt Fukuoka, Japan. It is the very first time I truly felt that my design could help people and make them happy. What are the most important creative developments in hospitality design that you have witnessed over the last 15 years and, looking forward, what challenges will designers need to create solutions for? For the past few years, the trend in high end hospitality has become more and more residence-oriented and localised. I expect to see a lot of design hotels, boutique hotels and luxury hotels responding to the trend towards residential living, and becoming less “hotel-like”. This trend reflects the expectation of people who are stressed and busy and wanting the feeling of home from home when they are away so they can completely relax.

Q&A

Please describe your top three interior spaces, from anywhere in the world, and tell us why they resonate with you. The Pantheon in Rome – its great scale, and the interaction between the space and the natural sunlight moved me deeply when I stood in it for a long time. The Louvre – I could never see it all. The beautiful details all over the space are breathtaking. I can always be inspired by the combination of the old and the new. The Guggenheim Museum in New York City – a masterpiece of Frank Lloyd Wright’s without a doubt. I loved to spend my leisure time there

when I was studying in New York. The way it combines the architecture, the interior and the flow of the exhibition makes it a design classic even to this day. That is one of the reasons that artwork also plays an important role in all of my projects. Have you got any hospitality projects in the pipeline that you’re able to share with us? We are now working intensely on the Rosewood Hotel, Bangkok. The project has been underway for over four years now and it is expected to open in 2019. It is always exciting to work with them and I am so grateful for their trust and confidence in me and my team.

“To be a successful interior designer is to be like a director – we have to tell a fascinating story which attracts people to want to hear and see our work again and again”

In the meantime, the renovation of InterContinental Hotel Cairo is in the making, which is my first project in the Middle East, so I look forward to seeing this completed. Also, I am working on another specialty restaurant of a local brand hotel in Taiwan which is under construction, and expected to be completed in November. What do you like to do with your downtime? Recently I’ve really started to enjoy swimming with my two daughters, one is three years old and the other is one year old. They are my little angels that can swipe my worries and pressures away easily. I also love to watch movies in my free time. It’s a way to develop my inspiration too. I watch any kind of movie because they all tell very different stories to me. To be a successful interior designer is to be like a director – we have to tell a fascinating story which attracts people to want to hear and see our work again and again. celiachu.com

PROJECTS

Heralded as one of the decade’s most significant hotel openings, The Ned has created a stir befitting of its formidable stature. The combined forces of Soho House & Co and New York’s Sydell Group have transformed a disused former Midland Bank building into an exclusive hotel and private members club that is both honest and awe-inspiring in design.

The Ned Poultry, London When Soho House & Co’s founder Nick Jones first clapped eyes on The Ned – a disused, if still very beautiful shell that had stood empty for a number of years – he felt instinctively its potential. He called Ron Burkle, Soho House chairman and investor, who put him in touch with Andrew Zoble, the CEO of Sydell Group, of which Ron is a significant investor. Together they have realised this untapped potential, bringing new purpose to the space, and harnessing the property’s prime City location. The Grade I Listed structure certainly commands attention. Designed by the acclaimed British architect Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens in 1924, its facade and cavernous ‘banking hall’ interior alike are truly staggering. Indeed, within its 29,450m2, The Ned houses nine restaurants, 252 bedrooms, an array of men’s and women’s grooming services and ‘Ned’s Club’ – a social and fitness club where members can access a rooftop pool, gym, spa, hammam and late night lounge bar. An in-house design team, made up of Alice Lund, Adam Greco, and Rebecca King were tasked with respectfully restoring the building to its former glory. “The faded glamour of a 1930’s transatlantic ocean liner was the starting point for the interior

design,” Alice explains. “We trawled the bank’s archives to find out what the bank looked like in the 1930’s heyday and were inspired by the attention to detail of the grand hotels of that era. “We also looked at forms of transit such as SS Normandie and The Orient Express to fill out their reference points.” The key to The Ned’s authentic and truly luxurious feel, as Alice mentions, is as much down to the most intricate of details as it is the overall affect. Throughout the hotel, original features have been artfully rejuvenated and at times carefully replicated through bespoke fittings and furnishings. “Our approach to The Ned’s design was different, as the historic property has been reinvented and transformed in a way that still feels true to itself,” Alice affirms. “We took lots of existing motifs from the building and re-worked them to create a cohesion between the old and new. “One example is the fishtail pattern found on one of the original grills on the ground floor. The fishtail pattern can be seen throughout the building in new additions, such as the custom-made pink leather cladding on the bar in Cecconi’s and the antique brass grill on the check-in desk.”

PROJECTS

While the building’s Listed status brings with it a fitting sense of prestige, it inevitably presented a degree of difficulty for the design team in terms of ensuring the property was fit for purpose as a hotel. “The building’s Grade I Listed status provided challenges, particularly when it came to the ground floor,” explains Alice. “When Lutyens designed the bank he installed 92 green verdite marble columns and hundreds of walnut

panelled counters for the bank tellers. “The whole lot was protected by the listing, and we had to work out how to fit seven restaurants and bars into the space. The bustle of the old bank’s reception area has been preserved, however, and more than 850 people can now eat on the ground floor.” When it comes to the host of original features within the hotel, arguably its most impressive is the Midland Bank strongroom.

Situated in the belly of the building and accessed through a two-metre wide vault door, the space is now home to the stylish Vault bar & lounge. “Behind a 20-tonne, two-metre wide vault door, the Vault Bar & Lounge (Ned’s Club Downstairs) is dominated by 3,800 of the Midland Bank’s original stainless steel safe deposit boxes,” explains Alice. “Inside we’ve created a plush club space with a large bar, used by Ned’s Club members and hotel guests.

“The steel deposit boxes, although beautiful, have a fairly severe geometry so we aimed to balance this out with more abstract, playful patterned upholstery, along with soft lighting throughout. “It was important to provide a cue for the mood, to make guests want to drink champagne and have a great time knowing that they were tucked away in privacy.” Aside from the Vault Bar & Lounge, guests are tuly spoilt for choice when it comes to The Ned’s F&B offering. Located both on the ground floor and rooftop, The Ned’s diverse restaurants include Cecconi’s City of London, which serves up modern Italian dishes; Cafe Sou – a Parisian-inspired café; Zobler’s – a New York style deli, Millie’s Lounge – a British brasserie with a 24-hour menu; Malibu Kitchen, serving up Californian food in the City; The Nickel Bar – a casual menu of time honoured American staples and classic cocktails; Kaia – a modern Asian-Pacific-inspired restaurant specialising in healthy “bowl” food and Lutyens Grill – an American steakhouse. For a dining experience with spectacular views, Ned’s Club Upstairs has a heated pool overlooking the London skyline, and two converted domes with outdoor terraces for eating and drinking – Princes Dome and Poultry Dome.

Aside from this rooftop pool, bar and dining space, Ned’s Club offers members and guests a number of other social and fitness facilities. Equally as impressive as The Ned’s public spaces are its 252 guest rooms. Chanelling 1920s and 1930s design, the rooms are adorned with with vintage pieces, brass and mahogany furniture, hand-knotted rugs and rainforest showers. Award-winning British bed manufacturer and Royal Warrant holder, Hypnos, supplied the guest rooms with its premium Lansdowne Royale mattress, delivering an opulent level of comfort and support thanks to its sumptuously soft and natural layers of wool and cashmere. In keeping with the vintage feel of the rooms, a range of traditional decorative lighting designs from Chelsom have also been used, including, amongst others, two types of bathroom wall light, bespoke desk lamps and stylish floor and wall lamps. Each and every facet of the hotel’s design has been considered and masterfully executed, without any trace of gimmick or pretention.

Indeed, the diverse facilities at The Ned create the perfect blend of lively bustle and refuge, from the grandeur and buzz of the hotel’s fine dining restaurants, to the intimate exclusivity of the Vault Bar & Lounge. This offering is made all the more unique given the hotel’s location in London’s business district, which has historically had little in the way of hotels. “As we were working on the project the local area seemed more of a commercial district, and was pretty deserted over the weekend,” Alice comments. “The Ned has such vitality and variety – and the same goes for the people that are drawn to it – there is activity day and night now, including over the weekend. “So it already feels very different around there – more diverse, with a different kind of energy! It also brings real glamour to the area, but in a relaxed, welcoming way.” thened.com

Situated on the corner of Curtain Road, Shoreditch, The Curtain is the latest property from New York hotelier, Michael Achenbaum.

The Curtain Shoreditch, London The Curtain is housed in a purpose-built ninestorey red brick building, formerly the site of a 1970s office block. Located as it is in the heart of the East End’s emerging urban renewal district, this hotly-anticipated new hotel and members club brings with it abundant Shoreditch energy and fun – anchored in its stylish interior from Texas-based international hospitality design firm, Duncan Miller Ullmann (DMU). DMU has created an interior concept inspired by the eclectic mix of art, fashion and

Here, period European pieces co-exist with contemporary, graphic inspired furnishings to create a series of unique individual ‘venues’ within the hotel. enjoyed alongside live, soulful tunes and jazz greats. With 142 covers, Red Rooster Shoreditch features a large, dine-at open kitchen with adjacent DJ booth, as well as a bright, internal terrace flanked by bare-brick walls. The design here captures New York’s modern industrial feel, while also remaining true to Shoreditch’s vibrant art, design and technology culture. The music programming, live five nights a week, will feature young, up-and-coming London talent, and Harlem’s now famous “Gospel Brunch”, which will see a local London gospel choir serenade guests on Sundays. Additionally, guests can visit Tienda Roosteria, an all-day road-side taqueria featuring a striking double-height ceiling and large floor-to-ceiling windows, or the Lido – a rooftop brasserie and heated Moroccan-style pool. This plant-filled haven offers views over the Shoreditch skyline, with a retractable glass roof to ensure that guests can enjoy the space all year round. A dedicated wellness suite – designed in collaboration wih local fitness expert and gym entrepreneur, Jon Squirrell – offers guests a 24-hour gym, complete with personalised

training, and a wide variety of classes, including early morning BOOM Cycle classes and yoga. In terms of accommodation, The Curtain offers four different categories, from Courtyard and City rooms through to the larger Loft and Loft Terrace rooms. These join four Shoreditch suites

Wilson Associates’ New York design team, has crafted the interior of Fairmont Quasar Istanbul – a 209-key hotel situated in the prestigious Quasar Istanbul Complex.

Fairmont Quasar Istanbul Turkey The Quasar Istanbul complex is an impressive site featuring two 40-storey towers atop a four-storey office podium which comprises a blend of fitness facilities and luxury retail. The towers house both the Fairmont Quasar Istanbul hotel, as well as Fairmont-managed Quasar residences and offices. The project also entailed the restoration and refurbishment of an existing historic liquor factory and city garden, designed in the 1930s by French architect Robert Mallet Stevens and in fact his sole masterpiece ever built

outside of France. The outdoor space has been transformed into a new international cultural, art and fashion centre, while the liquor factory has been rebuilt to be used as a museum and recreation centre. “The main design challenge for us was to create a sense of place without being overly Turkish, as directed by the owners,” explains Joanne Yong of Wilson Associates. “They wanted the hotel to be timeless yet modern, and to leave a lasting impression on guests. “By merging influences of Parisian chic

with New York industrial flair, we created an harmonious design concept that wowed the owners and hotel guests alike. We’re so happy with the final execution of our design concepts.” The hotel’s lobby, inspired by the 30’s liquor factory, the Borphorus Strait and local Turkish culture, provides the perfect location for guests to meet and share a drink. With its fireplace, angled ceiling panels, eclectic furnishings and custom Turkish-inspired carpet by Golden Hali, this area has been embued with a timeless, modern design.

Wilson Associates has used white marble flooring for the entrance to the hotel lobby, contrasting with the warmth of the wood floors in the reception area. Guests check in at bespoke reception desks which make use of metal, wood and stone with metal screens placed behind to create a flowing design to connect to the Bosphorus. Light is created by the feature chandelier made of draped chains, as well as the locally-made oversized lanterns that mark the entrance of the bridge connection to the meeting rooms. A converging catwalk nicknamed “Peacock’s Alley” sits adjacent to the lobby within a dark, carved stone wall on one side and mirrors inset with crystal rosettes on the other. In terms of its F&B offering, the hotel is a destination for world-class dining and relaxation with a number of lounges and several restaurants available. Locals have a range of styles available to them, from a

convergence of Occident and Orient cuisines at Stations, to Alia, a Turkish-style ‘ocakbaşi’ grill and live mezze kitchen and Ukiyo, an Asianinspired terrace restaurant. The hotel’s accommodation draws predominantly from the industrial elements of the Robert Mallet Stevens liquor factory, with a mix of Turkish design. Bespoke, custommade pieces have been used here, including a multi-functional desk space for work, dining or relaxing. Blue leather-tufted headboards, mini-bars in the style of vintage travel trunks, custom

carpets by Ottoman Hali and Stepevi and showers resembling a traditional Turkish hammam complete the look. “The Fairmont Quasar Istanbul is a dream: inspired by a rich past that is strongly rooted in the present,” Joanne adds. “The design weaves both heritage and stylish modernity; where the guest experience subliminally mirrors the ageless Turkish concept of journey and welcome. “The Fairmont Quasar Istanbul has been a great labour of love and we are very proud of the design.” wilsonassociates.com

A refuge from the madding crowds of St Tropez, the newly-renovated Hotel Le Bailli de Suffren profits from all the very best the Mediterranean has to offer.

Hotel Le Bailli de Suffren Saint-Tropez Surrounded by lush vegetation and crystalclear Mediterranean coastline, Hotel Le Bailli de Suffren surely encapsulates most people’s idea of a beach-side paradise. It is no surprise, then, that François Champsaur, a talented interior designer from Marseille, sought inspiration from this landscape for the hotel’s new interior. For François, it was particularly key to immerse the hotel’s guests within the surrounding seascape. Each of the 55 guest rooms is thus centred around the coastal view,

which can be admired from the bed, shower and even the bathtub. Blue ceilings echoe the blue of the sky and sea, while a wooden frame around the large window accentuates the stunning views. A large, custom royal blue armchair, colourful laminate coffee table and artwork by young arists perfectly complement the scheme. Framed by large, white cotton stonewashed curtains, the guest room terraces allow guests to enjoy al fresco relaxation with two stylish

Vincent Sheppard chairs and 1950s retro coffee tables. François’ integral palette of wood, terracotta, ceramic, cotton and wicker throughout the hotel’s interior creates a gentle, poetic ambiance. Within the reception area, the front desk is made from solid wood, with enamelled lava stone legs, while terracotta plantation shutters, designed by pottery manufacturer, Ravel, offer shade in front of the large bay windows.

This same focus on natural materials can be seen throughout the hotel’s three restaurants – The Loup de Mer, which serves up refined Mediterranean dishes; innovative pool snack bar, La Piscine; and bar-restaurant L’Escale, which offers guests the chance to dine against a backdrop of pastel-coloured beach décor. The Loup de Mer is the hotel’s chic, yet down-to-earth bistro, profiting from an enivable terrace that faces the Golden Islands. For the restaurant’s interior, François opted for planks of redwood and pine, painted in white, folding tables, wooden chairs with linen seat upholstery and colourful cotton cushions covering the banquettes. The bar at Hotel Le Bailli de Suffren was another focal point of the renovation for François. One of his first decisions was to remove the second floor to create doubleheight ceilings here. This – combined with a large high-hanging terracotta trellised panel designed by Patricia Urquiola, and a bar counter in terracotta and colourful enamelled lava stone – has created a more inviting, cosy ambiance. To complete the experience, a luxurious spa offers four treatment rooms, a hammam, lounge area overlooking the beach and a heated fresh water pool. champsaur.com

This characterful Fuller’s pub in Herne Hill has been refurbished over a 15-month period under the experienced eye of Concorde BGW.

The Half Moon Herne Hill, London Some of the most fruitful design outcomes arise when client and designer have implicit confidence and trust in one another – and this is one such project. Having worked with Fuller’s on countless refurbishments – including the award-winning Tap on the Line in Richmond – Concorde BGW has built a real understanding of the brand, and were given full trust to deliver the project in return. “Our brief was to design a concept that was both sympathetic to a Grade II Listed Victorian

BGW. “The existing features of the pub formed the DNA of the design – it’s such an incredible attractive building and our job was to build on that and bring it to life. Victorian grandeur can be seen throughout, with nods to a bohemian aesthetic characteristic to Herne Hill.” Concorde BGW was not just restricted to the pub’s interior, however, but was also instrumental in formulating a whole new character for the venue as it transitioned back

who have walked on the Moon. “The new guest rooms feature striking House of Hackney wallpaper, an eclectic mix of reclaimed and antique furniture, Roberts radio’s and bespoke lunar-themed lights,” explains Karim. “The pub’s name also played a large part in the design, with details focusing on astronomical elements seen through original artwork, lunar botanics and a bespoke wallpaper in the main suite showcasing both

building steeped in a rich heritage but also to incorporate modern expectations,” explains Karim Mezeli, head of design at Concorde

to its former role as a hotel. 12 boutique and individually-designed bedrooms have been added, each named after one of the 12 men

the dark and light side of the moon.” The difficult aspect of the project for Concorde BGW was treading that fine line

between modernising and improving the pub, while still retaining the unique character at the heart of its experience – a challenge the firm has handled with ease. “To update and upgrade the services to allow the building to offer a premium product was challenging,” Karim affirms. “We worked very closely with a conservation officer to reach mutual beneficial concepts and designs.” The transformed restaurant area thus has a sense of bohemian decadence, fused with a botanical ambiance. The space sits behind the main bar, which has been sympathetically refurbished, its original stained-glass windows, woodwork and painted mirrors brought back to pristine condition.

Other major additions to the venue include a brand new state-of-the-art kitchen and, to the rear of the pub, a newly opened up dining area. The pub’s landscaped garden, complete with outside bar, fire pit and barbecue, provides an oasis for eating, drinking and relaxing despite being just a stone’s throw from the busy Half Moon Road. “The Half Moon has set a new standard, not just in Fuller’s – but for the wider industry, in how to sympathetically refurbish a historic pub,” comments Fuller’s Inns MD, Jonathon Swaine said. “The Half Moon has a history and heritage that deserves to be recognised

and respected – and I truly believe we have succeeded in doing that.” “The acquisition of this well-known pub offered both Concorde BGW and Fullers an amazing opportunity to restore a famous Victorian gem. Not only do Concorde BGW celebrate its heritage but they have also bought the building up to date and created South London’s coolest new hang out – a place for the locals to wine, dine and relax in but also a spot on the map for travellers with a design scheme that successfully celebrates the multiple histories of the sites existence.” concordebgw.com

STK Toronto is the first Canadian outpost for the STK dining concept – a unique blend of upscale steakhouse and chic nightclub lounge.

STK Toronto Canada The ONE Group commissioned DesignAgency – an acclaimed Toronto-based interior design and architectural studio – to articulate the STK brand’s distinct vision and aesthetic. The restaurant is the first to open in the city’s former Four Seasons Yorkville Hotel, a landmark location that is well-suited for the modern, sultry persona of STK Toronto. STK differentiates itself from traditional steakhouses, instead drawing in a more

contemporary clientele and promoting a ‘see and be seen’ culture that encourages mingling. DesignAgency has drawn from successful elements of STK’s other outposts such as New York and Las Vegas, while evolving the concept to ensure that this is the most impressive STK restaurant yet. The design team approached the 9,500ft2, two-level venue as a sensory experience. A dramatic staircase entrance sequence from

the street builds a sense of anticipation for the main dining area, which is revealed to guests as they turn a corner from the host station. Here, operable floor-to-ceiling windows transform the space into an airy, covered patio overlooking Yorkville. Perhaps most strikingly, DesignAgency has drawn from the brand’s signature aesthetic to create striking, sinuous architectural forms that sweep across the ceilings and down statuary walls.

Further textural interest can be found in the longhorn installation over the bar. Acting as a motif for the STK dining concept, it also toys artfully with the room’s shadows and light. Throughout the space, high contrast materials and lighting set a theatrical tone, shifting patrons’ attention from one feature to the next. Wood and leather brings a warmth and softness to the space, while STK’s signature rosewood-framed white rollback banquettes invite conversation. Soft lavender lighting and up-lit floral arrangements dissipate light to create a warm glow over the guests, tables and architecture – diverging from the masculine vibe traditionally associated with steakhouse restaurants. The restaurant comprises various levels and zones that add further to the visual interest of the space. A private dining room, enclosed by sliding panels with a random checkerboard of tinted glazing, also has the option of connecting to the main dining room. From the raised dining area, meanwhile, patrons can enjoy a bird’s-eye-view of the restaurant, embracing the ‘see and be seen’ culture DesignAgency wished to create. thedesignagency.ca

From the team behind the Michelin starred Tamarind of Mayfair comes Tamarind Kitchen – a convivial Indian dining experience on Soho’s Wardour Street.

Tamarind Kitchen Soho, London Split over two levels, Tamarind Kichen offers 100 covers, with a private dining room for up to 20 guests, as well as a subterranean cocktail bar for late night drinking. The interior, artfully designed by Russell Sage Studios, blends soulful touches with traditional elements in a way that chimes perfectly with the restaurant’s ethos. “We were asked to design a space that would envelop guests in the sights, sounds and tastes of India,” explains Russell Sage, from Russell Sage Studios. “A place rich in texture and full

Quality craftsmanship is key to the restaurant’s interior, and is expressed through the traditional timber features, distinct colours and patterned textiles. The attention to detail displayed by Russell Sage Studios ensures that diners experience a welcoming and immersive journey of discovery from the moment they enter the restaurant. Each tabletop within the restaurant, for example, was chosen by one of four handpicked artisan producers, including

with the British Council and I was whisked straight to the Delhi Gymkhana Club, which is one of the oldest clubs in the country. It was an amazing mix of historic traditional and 1970’s décor – it was amazingly inspirational.” It is clear to see that the guest experience has been considered from every angle in the interior design of Tamarind Kitchen – from authentic touches such as the illuminated base tables in the front window which Russell modelled on an old Delhi Club, to the design

of both light and shade to suit guests personal moods. “The clients are young, energetic and passionate about their business and the ‘mother venue’, the original Tamarind of Mayfair, is a legendary business, so this gave me great inspiration. “There has been a huge interest in the Indian restaurant market over recent years, for which we played our part when we designed Dishoom Shoreditch a few years ago. I loved researching and developing this project, so was thrilled to be given the chance to bring fresh knowledgeable design energy to this sector again.”

Studio Mattes – a celebrated Belgium-based stoneware supplier. “We moved the typical Indian restaurant interior scene along to combine quality, comfort and detailing,” says Russell. “We’ve mixed our lighting design and involved the projection of Bollywood movies to make sure that the interior is visually stimulating. “We’ve also played with the authenticity of some aspects of the interior so that it is an Indian restaurant with saturated colour and luminous upholstery, planting and coloured light design. “The very first time I went to India, it was

team’s collaboration with hospitality branding guru, Kevin Hill to tell an emotional story. “It was a lovely project to work on as Tamarind Kitchen has properly invested in it being a quality interior, which will thrive beautifully and become a much-loved local restaurant,” affirms Russell. “As with our Social Eating House interior for Jason Atherton a few years ago, I think Tamarind Kitchen adds a rich and elegant setting to the Soho neighbourhood, which gives guests outstanding quality and comfort, but also preserves the local character.” russellsagestudio.co.uk

With mid-century modern interiors by the Puccini Group, El Segundo’s new upscale hotel speaks to its burgeoning young, entepreneurial crowd.

Cambria LAX Los Angeles Despite its close proximity to the bustling urban centre of Los Angeles, Cambia LAX evokes a more relaxed, distinctly Southern California vibe. The acclaimed San Francisco hospitality design firm, Puccini Group, was keen to embrace this connection to the locality within the hotel’s interior, encouraging guests to linger in its lively, yet laid-back public spaces. “Cambria LAX serves as a gateway to LA welcoming guests to the city, and as such, we wanted the design to embody the Southern

socialise and work here. A neutral concrete scheme is enhanced by the pops of vibrant blue-green hues found in the furniture pieces, while custom features, such as the sculptural pendant lighting inspired by aviation maps, exclusive local artwork and curated contemporary music, add to the hotel’s distinct personality. Another key public area is The Social Circle – a bar-centric concept serving up locallyinspired foods, premium coffee and a full bar

extremely thematic is always a challenge of balance,” explains Jocelyn Ramos, designer at Puccini Group. “For Cambria LAX, we extracted key elements of what makes Los Angeles so iconic – sleek modernity, stunning vistas, and a laid back vibe – and were able to achieve an eye catching space that doesn’t overpower.’ This is certainly evident, too, within Cambria LAX’s 152 rooms and suites. Presented in 23 different room configurations, the accommodation is designed with the ‘modern

California vibe,” affirms Douglas Fu, project manager and senior designer. “From the moment guests walk into the building, they are greeted by warm pops of color in the lobby, inspired by SoCal sunsets which continue upstairs into the guestrooms. “Midcentury modern accents and vibrant artwork lend the hotel a unique personality reminiscent of 1950s Los Angeles, while a generous lobby and pub lounge invite guests to experience the lively yet laid-back culture of the area.” The welcoming lobby space is an integral area within the hotel; its curved front desk, eclectic mix of seating options and inviting communal table encouraging guests to dwell,

with local craft beers. The space is designed to operate from morning to night – offering a hot breakfast buffet or made-to-order items first thing and a full bar service and dinner menu afer dark. Elsewhere, the hotel’s CustomFit fitness centre provides a high-design, spa-like fitness space with an array of state-of-the-art equipment. It would be easy for the focus on local influences to overcome the hotel’s interior, so the design team have worked hard to distill those LA idiosyncracies they wished to incorporate. “Creating an environment that gives an instant connection to its location without being

pioneer’ in mind. Each room features a graphic wall that serves as a focal point, around which the room’s colour palette is based. The feature wall is balanced by clean lines along a platform bed, flat screen television and a large window wih impressive views. Technology plays a significant role here, and is seamlessly integrated into the room’s design so that guests are able to control the room environment from their own devices. Breaking somewhat with a typical corporate hotel environment, Cambria LAX’s welcoming and artfully-executed public spaces and guest accommodation offer up an inclusive, relaxed atmosphere for guests and locals alike to enjoy. puccinigroup.com

Skylight Wapping, London Occupying the top three levels of a former car park in the heart of East London, Skylight is an imaginative new rooftop destination. Themed around a British urban lawn club, Skylight features multiple bars, three croquet lawns, petanque courts and street food stalls – all set against London’s striking cityscape. The project was headed up by creative brand strategy, design and content creation agency, Interact, and the team behind Tobacco Dock in line with a wider regeneration project within Wapping. The intention is to transform unused and under-

used spaces to draw people into the area – which is ideally situated between the thriving areas of Shoreditch and Peckham. Bringing a quintesentially British garden party to a distinctly urban setting may seem an incongruous blend, but Skylight does so without gimmick. The venue’s two petanque courts, lawn bowls and three croquet lawns are scattered across the venue’s varying levels, interspersed with a number of bar areas, to create a real sense of activity and buzz.

Skylight also places huge emphasis on food, and features some of the most exciting names in street food. From East London burger maestros, We Serve Humans, to Thai street food specialists Kra Pow and Greek street food brand, Yiro, foodies will be spoilt for choice. Perhaps the biggest highlight, however, is the Blue Moon bar and lounge sky terrace. This raised bar area makes the most of Skyline’s incredible views over the city, providing the perfect spot to enjoy a drink while watching the sun set. thedocklondon.com

PROJECTS

Absurd Bird Bath Absurd Bird and London interior design studio, Shed, have united to create the latest absurd restaurant within Bath’s central shopping district. The Absurd Bird brand reflects a sincere passion for the soul-warming comfort food and culinary traditions of the American south, but with a dose of fun and irony thrown in – a combination that is ever-present within the restaurant’s interior. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a vibrant façade clad with a plethora of playful patterns,

past which lies a dark, de-saturated envelope referencing the sinister silhouettes and menacing forms of Southern Gothic cinema. The vibrantly-coloured central bar, meanwhile, sits within the looming shadows of the clad mezzanine. Awash with bright pink and turquoise tones, the bar is topped with a garishly-clad over-bar layered with crude patterns and colourful bead ‘throws’. Surrounding the over bar is the sinister mezzanine, its artificial cladding depicting the wrought iron balconies of New Orleans. A large

sharing table on the mezzanine level anchors the various whimsical light fittings, with melancholy portraits adorning the walls. Illustrated birds, scattered throughout the nooks and crannies of the restaurant, as well as the Southern phrase “Everybody’s normal... until you get to know them” adorning the bar, bring a touch of humour to the otherwise moody space. shed-design.com All images © James Medcraft

INNOVATE RESTORATION FROM JACKFIELD Following a £37m redevelopment, Oldham Town Hall has been transformed into a major cinema and leisure complex, complete with its rich architectural heritage. A major element was to replace over 2000 of the original ceramic wall tiles in the centrepiece Egyptian Room and anti rooms. The project comprised over 55 different formats and designs, which all required precise matching to the surviving Pilkington originals. For most of the designs, new moulds needed to be made as many of the tiles are unique sizes and embossed with a variety of decorative features. Striking, tile-clad pillars dominate the room, for which Jackfield produced three variations of the embossed, yellow leaf design to cater for the tapered dimensions. The preservation of the Grade II Listed building’s heritage is testimony to the innovative and meticulous restoration approach adopted by Craven Dunnill Jackfield. 01952 884124 cravendunnill-jackfield.co.uk

POLYFLOR VINYL TILES HELP ADD RETRO EDGE TO DINER A variety of commercial vinyl tile products from UK manufacturer Polyflor were recently chosen to create a retro-inspired interior design scheme for Nelson’s Diner in Newbury, Berkshire. Approximately 300m² of Polyflor flooring was installed by The Hull Flooring Company at Nelson’s Diner, which offers American style cuisine in Kennet Shopping Centre. The refurbishment project was led by BMS Limited. Expona Commercial PUR luxury vinyl tiles in Light Grey Concrete were fitted around the booth seating area, with the Black Matrix design used for a highlight arc shade near the bar area. Expona Bevel Line PUR tiles in the pale Portland Stone design were also installed around the bar seating area. Polyflex Plus PU homogeneous tiles in the Anglian Red and Mourne Grey shades were used to create a chequerboard pattern floor in the middle of the diner. SIGNATURE STYLE FROM WILTON AT LONDON LUTON AIRPORT The opening of a prestige passenger facility for Signature Flight Support at London Luton Airport marks a European flagship for the company. Within the striking 3DReid designed building, bespoke woven carpet from Wilton Carpets, inspired by the building’s modernist architecture, provides a luxurious floor to welcome flight crew and passengers. Boasting the latest in technologies for entertainment, communications, passenger and crew amenities, and onward travel solutions; the building’s interior was designed by Hi Design, involved in a long-running consultancy since the plans for the facility were first conceptualised back in 2011. Hi Design turned to the quality and luxury of bespoke wool-rich woven axminster from Wilton Carpets, creating a series of three coordinated stripe designs. At times, the carpet incorporates a border of corporate blue, to reflect the colour’s use on high-gloss ceilings and walls, or is juxtaposed with hard flooring to create zones of luxurious relaxation. Q&A

Robert Lancaster Gaye, Tradelinens Tradelinens is a highly regarded, ethical supplier of bed, bath and table linens to the luxury hotel sector, counting The Ned London and Nobu Ibiza among some of its most recent projects. Here Robert Lancaster Gaye, who co-founded the firm with Joe Molloy, speaks to Hospitality Interiors about the role of linen within guest room design specifically ...

How did you forge a career in the industry, and what was it that first drew you to the premium linen sector? 45 years ago I was faced with the choice of studying architecture at university or going out into the real world. I chose the latter, and from a grounding in wholesaling textiles in a small London warehouse to launching the UK market for Frette back in 1990, I’ve never looked back. By now, I guess I am best known as the go-to person for making sure your hotel boasts the best that there is in bed linen, toweling and table linen. Along this journey, I met like-minded Joe Molloy. We decided to join forces and create our own company that sells the best bed linen of its kind to top hotels around the world and gives their guests a great night’s sleep. We have now been doing this through Tradelinens for over 25 years. It turns out that a flair for art and numbers does not just open the door to studying architecture. Mixing creativity with business acumen can also put you on the road to a passion for textiles, an expertise in hotel furnishings, an obsession with detail and quality and a chance to mix with some incredibly interesting people within the hospitality industry. Could you briefly outline the concept and ethos of Tradelinens? Ethics – As the first UK trade linen members of the Better Cotton Initiative, we work with carefully selected partner manufacturers

who support our ethos and sponsorship of education and training programmes in India and Pakistan. The passion to be an ethical business runs through Tradelinens, all the way from the top. Luxury – We create the very best products of their kind, inspired by our experience and crafted with exceptional attention to detail. Quality – Our products are a blend of traditional craftsmanship and the finest ingredients, all created with a personal service from start to finish. Pedigree – Between Joe and I, we have over 70 years of experience and are passionate about our textile expertise. Do you feel that perceptions surrounding the importance of linen are changing, or do you feel it remains a neglected element when it comes to curating the hotel experience? Both. It wholly depends on the owner, GM and housekeepers as to whether it’s recognised. The bedlinen has to ‘wow’ the guest while more importantly providing the best night’s sleep they’ve ever had. Thankfully, we work with a varied range of clients, from trendy and modern properties such as The Ned and Nobu to some of the most traditionally luxurious five-star properties such as The Connaught and Claridges. What they all have in common is their attention to exceptional luxury in every detail – this includes the bedrooms, bathrooms and dining room textiles.

Within an increasingly competitive market, how might hotels distinguish themselves through their choice of linen, and how does Tradelinens facilitate this? Our ability to provide expert advice coupled with bespoke service for each client have been key to the success of Tradelinens. Our ethical trading initiatives and pledges are also key for meeting the expectations of our hotel clients and their guests.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role? Time! We are passionate about getting it right first time and every time for each of our clients, and invest a great deal of time in working as consultants to make sure the process is seamless from start to finish. We personally manage each order from pre-weaving and yarn selection to careful delivery to specific floors of a hotel. If there were one myth you would wish to dispel about hotel linen, what would it be? Egyptian cotton being the best! Forever quoted as synonymous with luxury, the main attraction of Egyptian cotton is that it can be used to make long staple yarn. Using long staple over short staple yarn helps produce cloth that is softer and smoother to the touch, both very desirable characteristics of high quality bedlinen. Thankfully the production of cotton to make long staple yarn is not the sole preserve of Egypt’s Nile Delta, and not all cotton grown in the region produces long staple yarn. Given that the worldwide supply of so-called ‘Egyptian cotton’ far outstrips the physical production, it’s easy to see why confusion and misinformation reign supreme.

‘We work with a varied range of clients, from trendy and modern properties such as The Ned and Nobu to some of the most traditionally luxurious five-star properties such as The Connaught and Claridges”

What sets Tradelinens apart? Our decades of experience in the five-star luxury market paired with our passion and attention to detail and commitment to building an ethical brand. Could you talk about some of Tradelinens’ recent hospitality projects? We’re very excited to be a part of two of the most talked-about openings of this year so far: The Ned London and Nobu Ibiza. tradelinens.co.uk

Immersive guest room design from Morphosis US interdisciplinary architecture and design practice, Morphosis, has designed a series of luxury guest rooms at the 7132 Hotel in Vals, Switzerland. This luxury retreat, located in a secluded Swiss village, includes a 130key hotel in addition to the Therme Vals spa – considered to be one of Peter Zumthor’s landmark projects. Morphosis, which was founded by Pritzker prize winner Thom Mayne in 1972, was

commissioned to contribute designs for the newly-added ‘House of Architects’ within the complex. Alongside fellow designers Tadao Ando, Peter Zumthor and Kengo Kuma, Thom and his team were given carte blanche on a series of 20m² space spaces. The hotel’s entirely unique location within the deep rise of the Valser valley provided a key source of inspiration for the Morphosis team. Mirroring the surrounding landscape

– an immersive realm of alpine rock and greenery – the rooms are awash with locallysourced natural materials, including oak from the nearby Graubünden forests, and striking colours and cuts of Valser stone. At the heart of the rooms is a double-curved, hot-bent shower piece. This abstract sculptural centrepiece – designed by Morphosis and fabricated by Cricursa in Barcelona – provides an intriguing point of contrast with the abundant natural surfacing. Aside from the inspiration provided by the hotel’s surrounding terrain, Morphosis also focused in on the scale, colour and tactility of the space. Each and every aspect of the room – from lighting and furniture to the bed and wash basin – has been custom-designed in order to elevate the guest experience. Although Morphosis’ design for the guest rooms was entirely original, the firm is no stranger to creating innovative solutions that aim to reconfigure the intersection of form and performance. Indeed, since the firm was founded, it has received 26 Progressive Architecture awards, over 100 American Institute of Architects awards and numerous other accolades. From its permanent offices in LA and New York, as well as site offices world-wide, Morphosis conducts diverse projects of every scale and context across the public and private sector – bringing its unique methodologies to bear in the creation of iconic and sustainable spaces. morphosis.com

Victoria + Albert Baths collaborates with Conran + Partners Luxury British bathing brand, Victoria + Albert Baths, has collaborated with acclaimed British architecture and interior design studio, Conran + Partners, on a brand new bath design – the Eldon. The Eldon reflects the significant expertise Conran + Partners has built through designing some of the world’s top hotels and residences. Its contemporary back-towall design is endowed with the curvaceous lines of a freestanding bath. The pipework is hidden beneath a full width tap deck, while a moulded tile upstand allows tiles to be easily installed around the rim to create a watertight seal. “Being a collaborative design studio working across architecture, interior and industrial design, we have an understanding of the very large scale through to the finer details,” explains Simon Kincaid, director, Conran + Partners. “Our interior designers and industrial designers worked closely together at the early design stages of this project, considering the requirements of both end users in the hotel and residential markets.” At 1750mm long, Eldon is the perfect bath for large or small bathrooms where clean lines and day to day practicality are equally important. The Eldon is also incredibly easy to clean, making it a perfect design for the contract market and everyday households, where practicality and ease of cleaning is key. As with all Victoria + Albert’s baths, it is made using the brand’s exclusive material, QUARRYCAST; a unique blend of Volcanic Limestone and high performance resins with a number of beneficial properties. Warm to the touch, it is luxuriously smooth, wipe clean, scratchresistant, super-strong and lightweight, with each bath weighing around the same as an adult male. Botanic beauty from Skopos Skopos fabrics have been specified for the guest rooms and public spaces of The Hydro Hotel and Conference Centre in the Lake District. This elegant Victorian hotel, with its breath-taking views of Lake Windermere, is now a fine hotel and conference centre having undergone a significant refurbishment in 2017. Heather Bennani of Not a Box design was commissioned to design a boutique hotel interior perfect for leisure guests, conferences and wedding functions. Heather’s concept of botanical beauty was chosen to reinvigorate the public spaces and guest bedrooms. Colours for the interior were intended to follow a jewel-like theme, with bespoke designs that the hotel could own. The Botanical theme was realised in exotic bespoke prints across the furniture, drapery and wallcoverings. Skopos worked with the design to add in elegant, exquisite detail, such as butterflies and insects. The Tropicana print was brought to life on a striking linen-look drape and utilised in key areas of the hotel. In the bedrooms, Skopos used a classical cherub design from Muraspec on the headboards, which was echoed on walls within the ballroom. Not a Box also used key products from Skopos’ current collection to provide bold injections of colour in the hotel. Skopos provided full service, including bespoke design, make-up and installation. skoposfabrics.com

LIGHTING

Nulty creates refined lighting scheme for Fitzrovia restaurant Nulty has created a lighting scheme to complement the relaxed, refined style of Mere – an elegant new restaurant located in Fitzrovia, London. Working closely with the clients – husband-and-wife team Monica and David Galetti – partners Westbury Street Holdings (WSH), and interior design studio, Softroom, Nulty’s dramatic lighting scheme adds atmosphere, enhances the contemporary interior and celebrates the Galettis’ South Pacific and French heritage. Accent lighting within the restaurant’s reception welcomes guests, emphasising the folds and texture of the drapes that conceal the cloakroom. Decorative pendants here add a sense of fun and personality, with a sweeping line of light in the coffer leading diners to the bar. The intimate, luxurious bar area seats 20 guests and features a rich palette of dark blue-grey walls and royal blue velvet sofas. A slim, custom-made profile by Nulty lights a gold resin champagne-inspired artwork by Warren Warren Kerley – a more elegant alternative to the traditional ‘picture light’ solution. Meanwhile, circular wall lights create a halo of light either side of this signature showpiece, adding a soft, atmospheric glow to the bar area, and ensuring it is a statement space. From here, a modern wooden staircase with rough concrete walls and curved plywood leads down to the dining room. It appears to float in the space thanks to a linear fitting in the stair tread that accentuates its form and a glow from concealed LEDs grazes the textured walls. A subtle palette of chocolate, cool blues and greys with gold accents creates a warm, relaxed ambiance in the dining room, which contrasts with the exuberance of the bar. Here the light is tempered back, with a soft composition that highlights the features, including contemporary Samoan artworks by Galetti’s cousin, Solomon Daniel, and a traditional, geometrically decorated Samoan siapo cloth. The dining area’s double-height front is enhanced by a striking architectural wall. The impact of this feature is maximised by a decorative light piece, formed by softly illuminated fins, which is reflected in adjacent mirrors. The lightwell is lined with used wine boxes, lit by an inground linear LED, which grazes the rear wall and gives it a glow. Beyond the lightwell, coffer lighting creates a soft body of light, providing warmth and ensuring the correct balance between daylight and artificial light. This is assisted by a control system that responds to daylight levels. Accent lighting, provided by discreet spotlights, illuminates the tables, while LEDs with a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI), ensure the artistry of the dishes can be fully appreciated. nultylighting.co.uk 103

Prestigious win for willowlamp Acclaimed South African lighting design company, willowlamp, scooped another international award at the inaugural darc awards/decorative 2017 gala event held recently in London. The company’s bespoke designs, created for Hotel Crown Towers in Perth, Australia, took second place in the category for The Best Use of Decorative Lighting in a Hotel Project. willowlamp was commissioned by Australianbased architect Bates Smart to design a series of four chandeliers for The Waiting Room of the Crown Towers Perth. The custom pieces, based on its popular Mandala No. 1 design, were crafted in its studio in Salt River, Cape Town, and unveiled at the hotel in December 2016. The darc awards/decorative was created by international lighting magazines mondo*arc and darc to celebrate decorative lighting design projects and products. Davide Groppi launches inspired new collection Davide Groppi’s new lighting designs – presented at at this year’s Euroluce and Spazio Esperienze – channel a kind of Scandinavian Functionalism. The collection is characterised by its simplicity, weightlessness, emotion and inventiveness, but it also captures the ethos of “high quality living” in everyday life that Scandinavian design is famed for. “This collection represents a kind of rebirth for me, in the sense that it has felt like we have found a new way of creating and interpreting light,” Davide explains. “The ideas for these new lamps arrived as if by grace, after a long period of gestation. This period was necessary to be able to re-evaluate and appreciate more deeply the “primordial” aspect of my need to make lamps. “On one hand, I would like simply to make beautiful light. On the other, I need to communicate using light, narrating stories and creating metaphors. “I have done all this focusing on simplicity, but at the same time making use of creativity and a spirit of invention, which have always been a big part of my work and made it unique.” Just some of the designs from the new collection are QuiQuoQua – a new kind of suspension lamp with a rechargable battery; intriguing new floor lamp, Hashi; an 18mm wide light strip of stainless steel entitled Infinito, and lightweight table lamp, Morsetto. davidegroppi.com

Bright Goods keeps it traditional for Oxford gastropub Bright Goods LED filament lamps have been installed throughout the newly refurbished and prestigious Oxford Blue gastropub, creating a traditional atmosphere with efficient lighting technology. Located on the edge of Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, The Oxford Blue is housed in two former gamekeeper’s cottages dating back to the 1800s and was acquired in 2015 by Steven Ellis, former chef at three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsey. After a lengthy refurbishment, the pub now boasts a 44-cover venue with a wine attic for private dining, a 14-seat lounge and an outside dining area. Fettle Design was commissioned to create an interior that combined the historical elements of the building with modern efficient lighting technology, and specified Bright Goods’ linear LED filament lamps: Catherine, a 6W sepia tinted GLS; Jane, a 6W sepia tinted pear shape; and Elizabeth, a 3W clear candle. These designs were installed throughout the premises in the restaurant, bar, wine attic, hallway, WCs and outside dining area. Each lamp boasts an impressive 100Lm/W efficiency. “To create the intimate dining atmosphere we were looking for, the lighting had to be spot on,” explains Andy Goodwin, director of Fettle Interior Design. “I was introduced to the Bright Goods range a couple of years ago and what is amazing about the bulbs themselves is that aesthetically they look beautiful and create the correct colour light whilst still being energy efficient. “The Bright Goods LED lamps have that element of traditional about them which was key to the overall concept we had for the restaurant. The long lifespan of the lamps also means that maintenance becomes easier to manage. Trying to play on the heritage of the building, we wanted the lighting in the restaurant space to be fully dimmable to keep the atmosphere as intimate and enticing as possible.” brightgoods.co.uk

Chelsom celebrates prestigious milestone This year, Chelsom – an acclaimed British lighting designer and manufacturer – is celebrating 70 successful years of business in the global hospitality and marine sectors. Founded by Reg and Kay Chelsom in 1947, Chelsom in fact started life as an antique shop in Blackpool entitled ‘The Golden Age’. Soon expanding to three shops, the brand began to manufacture reproduction period lighting, which was distributed to retailers and interior designers throughout the UK. In the 1970s, Robert Chelsom took over as CEO and spearheaded the brand’s journey to the forefront of the hospitality lighting industry. Chelsom’s current MD, Will Chelsom, joined the company in 2006, and has been instrumental in driving its export division and diversifying into the marine sector. Chelsom’s innovative in-house designs, high quality manufacturing and excellent service have all contributed to the brand winning prestigious projects in more than 70 countries, as well as its prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade awarded in this, its seventieth year. “I am thrilled that Chelsom is celebrating 70 years as a family business and as we enter our seventieth year I am delighted to be working alongside my son,” expresses Robert Chelsom, chairman. “Will represents the third generation of the Chelsom family involved in the business and with his ideas for growth, understanding of the industry and a genuine passion for what he does, I am certain Chelsom will be celebrating many more anniversaries like this.” “It’s a real achievement to be celebrating our seventieth anniversary this year and still be able to call ourselves a genuine family business,” adds Will Chelsom. “We are also incredibly proud to be able to commemorate this anniversary with the news that we have been awarded the Queen’s Award for International Trade. “Not only does the award acknowledge the dedication and passion that every employee has shown in helping to drive the business forward internationally, but it is fitting recognition that this third-generation family business is now at the forefront of the industry thanks to a combination of our product designs, sales strategies and ultimately all the accompanying hard work by every member of the team.” 01253 831404 chelsom.co.uk

Dernier & Hamlyn demonstrates expertise in heritage lighting Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square has recently undergone a renovation that has brought a new luxury destination comprising elegant apartments, a 100room hotel, three restaurants and a spa to the capital while retaining the detail and integrity of the original building. Dernier & Hamlyn was heavily involved in this project over the course of more than four years. The bespoke lighting specialist used its significant expertise in heritage lighting and City of London planning requirements to support the hotel and ensure that the existing lighting was restored appropriately. “We undertook a comprehensive survey of the lighting at Ten Trinity Square to determine what was historically important, which determined whether elements should be refurbished or replaced,” explains Dernier & Hamlyn’s managing director, Jeremy Quantrill. The chandeliers in the UN Ballroom were removed and taken to Dernier & Hamlyn’s London factory so that the crystal could be restored. LED lamps were also integrated to improve longevity and sustainability and emergency lighting subtly incorporated to meet regulatory requirements without detracting from the beauty of these stunning light fittings. The hotel lobby’s chandeliers, which are more than a metre high and across, needed their original sandblasted glass panels replaced. While the designer’s specification called for opal glass, the curved design meant that the panels could not be sufficiently strengthened. Dernier & Hamlyn suggested an acrylic alternative which would look virtually identical and would overcome these challenges. After careful and lengthy dialogue with City of London that required archive storage of the original panels, the fittings were cleaned and reassembled with new parts so that they are now even better than new. 020 8760 0900 dernier-hamlyn.com

HARDWARE & FITTINGS

Embrace outdoor living with Sugatsune The British are known as a nation of garden lovers, so it is only natural that designers will seek to extend the amount of time spent there. An outdoor kitchen allows people to entertain in style and, when fully-equipped, food can be prepared with finesse and precision. When building a kitchen outdoors, the chief consideration is of course the weather. The timbers have to be carefully chosen to withstand constant changes in temperature and humidity. The hardware also has to be given thought as standard kitchen fittings will quickly rust and fail in a British winter. Industrial hardware designed for harsh or marine environments is a good solution for these issues. Sugatsune manufactures a broad range of hardware for a number of industrial sectors and its catalogue is filled with stainless steel pieces that would work well in this context. Concealed hinges can be supplied in stainless steel. These have good credentials from their use in yachts and so have their stainless steel drawer slides. Sugatsune is proud to say that the ESR-4670 is actually the only soft-closing stainless steel drawer slide on the market. Gaze Burvill, a top end manufacturer of outdoor kitchens has chosen to use Sugatsune’s HES3D-120 adjustable architectural hinge to support the substantial oak cabinet doors it uses. Actually it’s made largely from zinc and designed for interior use, but when well protected by the structure and design of a kitchen like this it works well. It can be fitted to 29mm thick doors allowing full three-way adjustment for perfect fit. Sugatsune makes smaller ones too, for doors as thin as 19mm. Push-to-open doors are ideal given the boisterous activities that can take place in the garden. Flush doors also look good so a long throw push-to-open latch like the MLC-HT130 is an ideal fit. It is made from tough plastic with stainless steel springs for long and trouble-free service whatever the weather. For those requiring knobs, Sugatsune has a large selection from stainless steel, in addition to hooks with a strong sense of design and functionality. The JF-T100, for example, is not only glamourous, made from mirror finish stainless steel, but it is articulated to fold out of the way when brushed against. As the trend for outdoor entertaining continues, Sugatsune seems to be a supplier worth checking out. sugatsune.co.uk

Blumotion S – one runner, many possibilities Blum offers four motion technologies and consequently the right solution for every level of user convenience. The range, however, remains slim – thanks to the new Blumotion S runner which is compatible with two different product categories. The different motion technologies offered by the Austrian fittings manufacturer give cabinet makers and industrial manufacturers plenty of scope for design and differentiation. Yet Blum is keen to ensure that its range is manageable. Consequently, the company now offers a single runner – Blumotion S – for three different motion technologies: Blumotion, Servo-Drive and Tip-On Blumotion. What is more, the runner provides the full range of functions and is compatible with two different product categories, i.e. a single runner for the Legrabox box system and a single runner for the Movento runner system. No matter whether clients opt for the electric or mechanical opening support system, Blum’s various motion technologies provides the right solution for every space and every convenience level. Blum’s motion technologies can be easily combined as required. Blumotion ensures that pull-outs, wall cabinets and doors close softly and effortlessly. Furniture equipped with the Servo-Drive electric motion support system glides open at a single touch – as if by itself (which is particularly handy for waste pull-outs). Tip-On Blumotion provides mechanical one-touch opening and soft and effortless closing. Clients can mix and combine Blum’s motion technologies as they like to bring enhanced convenience to kitchens – and to other living areas. The level of convenience selected depends on users’ needs. In other words, solutions can be tailored to meet the specific requirements. blum.com

A bold statement from Turnstyle Designs Designed by Christina Roberts, the Bullet is a bold statement. It is a door handle design that is deliberately oversized, heavily textured and one that demands to be held. Perfectly shaped, and hand cast in Turnstyle Designs’ trademark Amalfine composite, it is wonderfully tactile and ergonomic. Originally cast from a piece of rough hewn timber, the casting picks up every detail of woodgrain and provides detail that finishes of any project. turnstyledesigns.com

Shelf, the runner for pull-out drawers from Salice Fitting into the stable of Salice’s Futura fullextension runner range, Shelf is fixed at the bottom and does not require additional drilling on the cabinet side. A subliminal cinematographic experience from André Fu and Tai Ping

Image © houseoftaiping.com

Acclaimed Hong Kong architect and interior designer André Fu has collaborated with luxury custom carpet maker Tai Ping to create a unique new range of bespoke carpets influenced by the flâneur-inspired scenic silhouettes of urban life. The Scenematic Collection is presented in three refined and intricate colour palettes. The rich array of options is key to transcribing Fu’s intimate, poetic experience of the urban landscape through a highly sophisticated graduation from soft, subtle pastels to more intense, darker tones. “The collection is not about any one single element of a particular city,” André explains. “Instead, it represents the very sensual, subliminal cinematographic experience that comes from being immersed in the geometries, light, and reflections of an urban landscape – whether it be Paris, London, Tokyo or Hong Kong – at different times from dusk to dawn. “The collection really embraces a flâneur-like interpretation of our urban life - it evokes memories of cities through the use of pattern, textures and materials to express fleeting impressions and images.” Scenematic also marks the first time that a Tai Ping collaborator has used multiple production techniques in a single collection. Nine Scenematic designs are hand-tufted by Tai Ping artisans in the company factory in Xiamen using silk, fine lurex, steele, semi-worsted and felted wools, and new technical yarns such as Tai Ping’s ultra-durable glosilk thread, while an additional four designs are hand-knotted in Nepal employing traditional Tibetan and Nepalese techniques with silk, wool, linen, mohair, cashmere and Matka silk. houseoftaiping.com andrefuliving.com

PerfectSense combines toughness with a luxury look and feel Wood panel and laminate manufacturer EGGER has picked up a clutch of awards across Europe for its super-smooth MDF boards with premium matt and gloss finishes. Driven partly by the increasing popularity of slab doors, its expanded PerfectSense range is in demand for high-end residential and commercial areas, and in upscale retail as well as for furniture design. The high-gloss and velvety-matt lacquered MDF boards give an appearance of exclusivity and luxury, while special UV technology makes them especially durable and scratch resistant. What EGGER calls its ‘matt concept’ created significant interest at Interzum. Its PerfectSense Matt has a warm velvety feel with anti-fingerprint characteristics, which makes it ideal for elegant, modern fronts without handles. This surface is well suited for use in furniture frontals or for sliding doors and wall cladding. Texture innovations give even more choice and more authenticity – and matt is finding favour for interiors, doors and open shelving. Complementing its PerfectSense Matt board, is a new EGGER PerfectSense Topmatt laminate that it unveiled at the show. Seen for the very first time, this shares the matt surface and anti-fingerprint features, but was specially developed for use on high-stress surfaces such as worktops and tables. ABS and PMMA edges with co-ordinated decors and textures matching the matt surfaces are available, and EGGER anticipates that manufacturers will have specialist fabricators use it to create worktops with an upmarket understated look. In line with its aim of offering high-end surfaces in trendy decors, EGGER encourages the growing trend for mixing matt and gloss with its complementary colour palette across both ranges. The choice of available decors in the stock matt range is very much based on current trends, with decors such as U702 Cashmere Grey, U708 Light Grey, U732 Dust Grey, U222 Crema Beige and U727 Stone Grey. The stock range of PerfectSense Gloss includes some on-trend bold decors such as the bright U323 Chilli Red and the woodgrain reproduction H3025 Macassar. A dark U961 Graphite Grey, as well as U999 Black, showcases the exceptional depth and glass-like finish of PerfectSense Gloss. egger.com/perfectsense

Euro Spradling explores trends in hospitality Keeping up to date with the latest trends in the hospitality interiors industry, not only in the UK but also around the world, is increasingly becoming a more difficult task. Spradling – a worldwide leader in the manufacture of coated fabrics – has shared with Hospitality Interiors Magazine its thoughts on what is happening in the hospitality upholstery sector. Natalia Cortés, European marketing director, explains the main challenges the industry is facing and the forthcoming trends in colours, materials and applications. Choosing the right combination of colours and materials to create the intended ambiance The choice of colour and material largely sets the tone of a space. The choice of both will depend not only on how they combine to create an integrated design but also on their intended use and the setting in which they are located. In a room, generally speaking, the aim is to transmit warmth and comfort, and depending on the space, the colour tones chosen will convey different sensations. Whereas with materials, the textures, will create new sensory sensations. Textures and colours will complement each other to create an integrated design and when combined they should work together in order to create the desired ambiance. Our experience in the hospitality sector has led us to identify three main properties in an upholstery fabric – performance, design and ease of maintenance. Performance, in terms of use and safety, is key. This means they must have high abrasion (martindale) resistance, fulfil the local flame retardancy requirements and be highly colourfast to light as well as wet rubbing, seam slippage as well as tear and tensile strength. In general these requirements are listed in BS 2543. Design is obviously important; the clients seek materials that cater to colour trends and which, while fulfilling the technical specifications, have finishes with either a textile, leather look or pattern that never goes out of fashion. Ease of maintenance is another important characteristic, because this ultimately leads to cost savings related to overall maintenance, care and a fabrics longevity. While it may appear to be simple, finding a material that delivers all these properties at the same time is not a straightforward task. This explains why the sector is moving increasingly towards using synthetic materials such as vinyl, since it can offer these and many other characteristics.

What criteria determines the choice of one design over another? There is not a single answer. The choice will not always depend on a fabrics “look”. It will also depend on the general theme of a hotel, the intended experience or use, as well as the style dictated by the hotel brand, the specific space, types of applications, colour ranges, maintenance, durability etc. Market novelties in terms of quality Stain resistance and anti-microbial properties, characteristics that were once only requested by the healthcare sector are now virtually a norm in the hospitality industry (bars, restaurants and hotels), due to the need to eliminate any type of bacteria related to hygiene issues. This has forced the material manufacturers to create special protective finishes that act as effective and resistant barriers not only against germs but also against abrasion and stains. Spradling for example has developed several formulas that ensure not only anti-microbial protection but also extended performance and lasting appearance with the minimum of care. Using green technologies to prevent bacterial growth and appearance of other polluting agents like odours or staining is also an enhancement in terms of fabric quality. Upholstery trends In upholstery, the latest trend is covering surfaces and not just furniture. Panels, walls, window frames and even picture frames and stands. It is a new way of utilising texture. In terms of fabrics the market is increasingly demanding coated fabrics, not just because they fulfil the required technical specifications in terms of maintenance, protection and durability. But also because coated fabrics are increasingly becoming even more similar and, in some instances, they are frequently mistaken for textiles and real leathers. Due to the development of new technologies and enhanced production techniques a fabrics structure or the grain of a real leather may now be found in vinyl fabrics, which offer enhanced performance. Maintenance and cleaning to ensure upholstery durability Sometimes people think that just because materials are defined as being easy to maintain, they do not need to be cleaned. That is not the case. Maintenance calls for a systematic and suitable cleaning process, not only to guarantee the product’s technical features, but also its durability. spradling.eu

These are used throughout many market areas, including furniture manufacture, shopfitting and architect specification. The dp-decor and dp-specialist ranges of surface products is enormous, comprising woodgrains and solid colours in standard papers, high gloss and matt acrylics, PP, PVC gloss and matt finishes and thin laminates – many of which are available as stock items. The new dp-limitless range of surface finishes has no commitment to purchasing in bulk, the products in this offer are deliverable from single sheets up to full load quantities, all from stock. Ranges include HPL, gloss and matt acrylics, faux-leather, real stone and real wood veneers. In addition to a wide range of finishes, a variety of substrates is available, including chipboard, MDF, plywood and in-house manufactured dp-lite hollowcore board. In total, Decorative Panels Lamination offers over 100 different board sizes. Decorative Panels Lamination has introduced a further five designs to the dp-decor and dp-specialist collections. New to the dp-decor collection is Arona Oak, an attractive, elegant design in a stylish grey colouration, complete with characteristic oak features – pips, classic planking and a fully synchronised wood structure to the surface of the design. The many tones in this design complement the grey natural hues that are much in evidence at the moment. Complementing this is Hickory Oak, which is available in both white and grey tones. These two understated painted timber effects would give a modern classic look to any piece of furniture. There are two new additions from Senoplast to add to the ever-increasing dp-specialist collection – Fudge and Merino. These high gloss colours develop the theme of the naturally toned unicolours and really add to the options that can be mixed and matched to create a striking look. Samples are available of all designs, with sheet material available in bulk direct from Decorative Panels Lamination and regionally available through its nationwide distribution partners. decorativepanels.co.uk

Engaging restaurant design from Carlo Berarducci Carlo Berarducci Architecture deals with a wide range of project scales, from interior and furniture design to architectural and urban, with the firmly-held belief that there is no difference in the design approach. Beginning with the ever-changing conditions at the base of each project – namely the nature of the site, clients, program and budget – Carlo Berarducci avoids a defined and formulaic approach in favour of studying of the volumes, spaces, light and materials specific to each project. The firm’s ultimate aim is to create environments in which people feel comfortable and engaged; to create an open and fluid spatial organisation with tactile materials that appeal to the user’s senses. Zen Sushi Restaurant in Rome (pictured) is a key example of Carlo Berarducci Architecture’s capabilities in the hospitality sector. Instilling a contemporary Japanese vibe, the firm has captured the feel and colours of the the temples in Kyoto, and in particular the walkways in the surrounding forest. The contrast between the matt black and glossy red-orange surfaces echoes the Fushimi Inari shrine, creating a visual impact that is firmly based in Japanese culture. carlo@berarducciarchitecture.com berarducciarchitecture.com

HI-MACS® decks out Barcelona beauty salon HI-MACS® acrylic stone has been selected for the renovation of Barcelona beauty salon, Vanitas Espai. Led by interior designers Cristina Caballero and Clara Lleal of Cm2 Disseny, the aim of the project was to create a stylised environment with a clean elegance that would also be inviting. To bring the project to life, the designers needed a material that was versatile and elegant, with first-rate hygienic properties, and that would at the same time combine harmoniously with the other elements chosen, such as iron and wood. It was also essential that it would fit in with the tiles, designed by Marcel Wanders, from the Italian firm Ceramica Bardelli, which served as the guiding theme of the project. HI-MACS® in Alpine White was the material chosen, thanks to the infinite design possibilities it offers, among other reasons. The result is an elegant, comfortable space where clients can enjoy a pleasant atmosphere while receiving their beauty treatments. The establishment’s reception and waiting area welcomes clients into a space lined with tiles and a window box with a trailing plant providing a touch of natural freshness. The front of the reception desk was created using 12mm HI-MACS® Alpine White, where the ornamental motif from the tiles has been reproduced in relief and on a larger scale, setting the tone for the establishment’s unique and exclusive identity. The texture given to the surface was possible thanks to the properties of HI-MACS®, which has the appearance of stone, but can be manipulated using the same tools as in woodworking. LG Hausys’ HI-MACS® uses a simple heating process to give three-dimensional thermoplastic forming capabilities, allows visually seamless designs, offers a virtually limitless range of colours and – for some shades – exhibits a special translucency when exposed to light. Although HI-MACS® is almost as robust as stone, it can be worked in a similar way as wood: it can be sawn, routed, drilled or sanded. himacs.eu cm2disseny.com

The roomMaster property management system from NFS Technology Group Although the Shandon Hotel and Spa in Donegal only opened as a resort in 2016, it has already established itself as one of the premier hotel spas in Ireland. With 50 luxurious bedrooms, 120 staff, two bars, a top-class thermal spa and a leisure centre, the hotel’s prime concern is making sure the guest experience is superlative. For general manager, Carolynne Henderson, these great results would be impossible to achieve without the roomMaster property management system (PMS) from NFS Technology Group. “roomMaster works really well for us,” she says. “The revenue management side of roomMaster is particularly useful. It’s very easy to use, and it integrates well with SiteMinder, our channel manager.” As well as taking advantage of online booking channels, the hotel has a strong direct booking strategy via its website. “Some hotels pay commission on online bookings – but thanks to roomMaster, we’re pretty much commission-free,” said Carolynne. Via roomMaster and SiteMinder’s powerful facilities, the hotel’s rates and availability are automatically pushed out and co-ordinated at all times. roomMaster can also handle food and beverage management, revenue accounting, sales ledger, sales and marketing. nfs-hospitality.com

Authentic emotions inform Renolit’s trend report RENOLIT Colour Road 2017/18 defines three different trends that reflect a longing for authentic feelings and experiences in life. The title “Authentic Emotions” encompasses a total of twelve colour trends, which are also reflected in the thermoformable 3D Stock Range Highlights collection of RENOLIT DESIGN. REAL MOTION: The fascination of nature “A glance into the infinite vastness of the sky. A relaxing walk in the country. Nature has the ability of making people happy. And above all, it can give us what the digital world deprives us of. Blue and green shades are contained in this colour spectrum which are as diverse as nature itself. For instance, Conifer Green Supermatt reflects the dark green of pine forests and gives an elegant touch to kitchen units and feature furniture. When matched with warm oak pieces, this in trend colour adds comfort and value. “The radiant light blue HG Arctic Blue Metallic is reminiscent of cool glaciers, introducing a modern tone into kitchens, bathrooms and offices. The intense dark Wave Blue embodies the exact opposite and looks both elegant and sophisticated.” SLOW MOTION: The fascination of slowness “In our fast-paced age, we are once more developing an eye for the small things. More and more people are trying to slow down their pace and enjoy the benefits of slowness. They are amply rewarded with a great diversity of intense sensory experiences. “Mere seeing is increasingly accompanied by touching and feeling, which is why SLOW MOTION emphasises tactile experiences. The light tone of Pearl Grey Suedette Matt is an explicitly neutral embodiment of these trend colours which fits well on a large scale and in all areas of application. A similar universal shade of grey is Cement Supermatt, to create a harmony of cool and warm tones. It is also great for mellowing down energetic colours such as Cosmic Orange Supermatt.” SPEED MOTION: The fascination of risk “Experiences take us far beyond our comfort zone, we face our strength and to a certain extent, even the fragility of our life. This is why extremely durable materials such as leather, stone and stretch fabrics are in fashion, and so are sequins and pearls for adding brave highlights. “In this sphere, the interplay of these colours hints at danger and is reminiscent of fire. For instance, the bold new Peak Yellow Supermatt can turn kitchen, living and office furniture into statement pieces. It fits particularly well with calm and balancing shades, such as Chicago Concrete 1 SC. Dried Date Supermatt has an almost equal balance of black and colour. This dark shade of red is suitable for large-scale applications in the furniture sector. “Finally, this season’s “must-have” is Bronze Metallic. This dark bronze shade continues the vogue for gold and copper shades and can be used on entire kitchen and furniture surfaces. An expressive oak or a soft neutral shade can be integrated to emphasize its valuable elegance.” For a colour road brochure which illustrates these trends, or to request a Colour Road presentation, please contact RENOLIT Cramlington by phone or email. 01670 718222 renolit.cramlington@renolit.com renolit.com/design

Provision of accessible toilets in the tourism industry Closomat Enabling all people to go to the toilet will help tourist attractions take a bigger share of the £14b spent in the UK a year by parties that include a disabled person. New and recent regulations and “best practice” guidelines mean management now has additional challenges to deliver an optimum solution for accessible tourism. To help them, leading disabled toileting solutions provider Closomat has published a white paper: Provision of Accessible Toilets in the Tourism Industry. The white paper provides a simplified reference to achieve compliance for venues where people are spending a few hours or a day. It clarifies what is needed under the latest Building Regulations (Approved Document M 2013), plus the Equality Act (which replaced the Disability Discrimination Act) and BS8300:2009, to enable visitors with a visible or invisible disability to access appropriate toilets. The white paper can be obtained, free of charge, from the downloads section of Closomat’s website. clos-o-mat.com

Air distribution products Gilberts Blackpool

Building services can more easily align with current interior design fashions with a new option in ventilation. Reflecting trending design for ceilings in commercial buildings, Gilberts has refined its standard, linear and high capacity slot diffuser border options to enable plasterwork to run right up to the vents cut out in the ceiling. With this the aesthetic is maintained without a visible chamfer or flanged edge. Gilberts’ aluminium slot diffusers have been designed to meet exacting performance criteria. They deliver smooth, accurate air distribution, via a discreet directional control vane in each slot that directs the airflow as required- across the ceiling in either direction, or discharged vertically downwards. A choice of slot numbers and widths in each unit enables precise tailoring to each project’s specific requirements. Units can be supplied up to 2m in length, and joined to achieve longer runs without impact on aesthetics. gilbertsblackpool.com

from Pooky Lighting and Rockett St George,” says Lucy Mortimer, director at Galapagos Designs. “We’re making the space into a real retreat, where hoteliers can take 10 minutes away from the crowds.” For hoteliers and spa managers looking to boost their wellness, leisure and lifestyle offering, The Sanctuary is an area dedicated to mindfulness, education and wellbeing, perfect for gaining insight into the latest trends. RESTAURANT & BAR SHOW - ADVERTORIAL

Blending science and nature with Revive Joinery and their new River Table collection It is often said that the only way to do great work is to love what you do. This is very true of Sussex based furniture designers Revive Joinery. Run by Edward Gunter and Jonathan Neal, the pair create one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that both awe and inspire people. Their River Tables double as artistic statements and one can see true beauty and great craftsmanship in every piece they create. These intricately designed and handcrafted tables feature “rivers” running throughout each piece. The naturally uneven edges of the wood and their vivid grains provide the perfect “shore” to mimic bodies of water. Each of Revive Joinery’s tables showcase gorgeous details within the wood. We see knots, swirling grains and other imperfections that make their work truly unique. With the use of ‘EcoPoxy’ resin infills, the two designers use a mixture of skills to marry the natural beauty of the wood with craftsmanship. New scheme to further the sustainability and environmental benefits of their work Sustainability is core to what they do and sticking to their business ethos of reclamation and sustainability, it’s important to them they replace the rather unique resources they use. Having acquired the use of a piece of land in Sussex they have been given permission to start a reforestation project. Working with a number of customers to help support this venture, a small addition is made to the price of projects to cover the cost of replanting the trees used to create them. British pavements meet selfstabilising tables from Sweden! Everyone hates sitting at a wobbly table.

Still, most restaurants continue to use ”simple” tables with poor adjustment feet that never seem to be correctly set. Instead of finding a solution they rely on their customers to fix the problem by placing menu cards, coasters or napkins under the table legs or just accept the problem. It is such a common problem that it is easy to give up. But there is a solution! For a number of years StableTable® has helped thousands of cafés, restaurants, pubs and bars to automatically stabilise their tables and stop the wobble.

The tables automatically adjust!

StableTable® are award-winning self-stabilising tables. They automatically adjust to any uneven surface, and find a stable position. Forget difficult adjustment feet, folded napkins under table legs and complaining guests! StableTable® tables adjust to both bumps and grooves and manage height differences up to 25 mm without any manual adjustment. The unique, mechanical system sits well protected inside the centre pillar, away from the ground. The tables are manufactured in Sweden and are fully recyclable.

StableTable® are truly unique tables.

Lift, pull or drag them to wherever you want and they will automatically adjust and always stand still. It is estimated that over 250 000 people drink and eat at a wobble free table from StableTable® every day. No wonder they are appreciated by staff, guests and architects and have won a number of International awards.
