Housing Project
2nd Year - Re-rendered
The brief asked to assign 21 dwellings and retail spaces to one of the two designated spaces in the Cardiff city centre. My design expanded beyond the site limitations and attached itself to the Cardiff International Arena (CIA) as an accretion. The public area in the centre has been raised and underneath a car park is situated with enough parking spaces for the CIA and housing units and some for retail. The housing units are designed in 3 types, each of them being long and narrow with windows from both sides to include enough natural light and ventilation. The interior side of the units which required more privacy has glass block windows, which distorted views, and is white brick, the exterior side has big windows with generous views and is in dark red brick. Each of the dwelling units is stacked in a way that almost all of them have generous terrace gardens. The housing units are raised above the retail spaces. The idea was to introduce more greenery in the dense city centre without sacrificing density and using the adjacent buildings (presumably with their permission) to enhance the design of the overall area.
Rhyl Project
2nd Year - Re-rendered The city of Rhyl was once a great sea-side resort, but today that is no longer the case. The fact that one does not even feel he is living by the sea is quite mis-fortunate. The city of Rhyl has its character and history of being a coastal town and that needs to be embraced and reintroduced in a new way. The sea needs to be connected to the city once again by grand gestures of old piers. The pier connects the sea to the town and is indirectly linked to the new Arts Centre, it also leads down to the exterior exhibitions spaces that are free for the public to view and interact with. The Arts Centre has an arts shop and a cafe on the ground floor, gallery spaces on the first floor with a mezzanine pathway going around the spaces and on the second floor are the workshops and 4 artists-in-residence flats for local artists.
The Wall Project 3rd Year
The brief was concerned with rehabilitating the historic fabric of Caernarfon without damaging any tourism features which are vital to the local economy. Further investigation revealed important features that must be reintroduced to Caernarfon and North Wales. The problems included deforestation and not a good amount of local craftsmen or specialized workers. My proposal was to re-introduce craft and industry to Caernarfon which would create specialized workers and bring back cohesion and identity to the community. This all was designed with the idea of enhancing the local historic fabric which would intrigue the tourists a lot more. The master plan consists of the main wooden boat industry, which has a lot of accompanying elements: a fishing village, maritime museum, a local market, craftsmen-in-residence flats. I would also introduce fishing, sunbathing and picnicking platforms that would correspond to the rivers tidal shifts. The local timber felling and rafting introduced along with the boat industry would help in taking care the local forests and help to maintain and enhance them, slowly adding to the reforestation to North Wales.
Multi-Faith Centre 4th Year
Apart from working in a architectural firm, we also had to design a multi-faith centre for Cardiff University as a side project. Most of the drawings and information were produced in Revit.
Embracing Flood & Water - Archimedes Screw, Hotel & Floating Cafe 5th Year
How can historic importance of water be re-introduced within the town of Leominster through local steel manufacturing techniques and what range of values would that bring? Leominster used to have a lot of small streams in-between the main rivers and some artificially made streams to power the 11 mills which hare all either demolished or re-purposed. The most notable Pinsley brook (which is now lost) was created to supply the Priory with fresh water. There used to be a large number of small and humble bridges to allow for the residences to cross the streams, which were demolished as the streams were infilled. How can the theme of water and mills be re-introduced within the town with modern construction techniques and standards?

The Fragment (Part of the Design Thesis Research) 5th Year
There is a high concentration of steel manufacturers within the town of Leominster. They are here because of the farmers needs to diversify the business and were established early on (ca. 1900-1960). How can the local agricultural tools, techniques and material be utilised within the town to create a new vernacular and a sense of place? I was working on the Fragment with the local steel manufacturers RJ Barrington where it was tested and developed.
Work Experience at UAB “L&G Projektai 4th Year
All of the tender documents were created using Revit and AutoCAD. Mostly helped with designing individual homes and extensions.

PLANNING
BIM at Connections Design Year Out
A lot of hands on experience with designing a myriad of projects and taking them through inception to completion. Gained a lot of understanding in technical details and UK Regulations during the production of Building Regulation Drawings. Introduced Revit work flow helping the firm decide on adopting a BIM software for speed, efficiency and quality in the future.

The key points I wanted to learn from Rhino and Grasshopper is how to produce and extremely complex model and withdraw information from it such as plans and sections, and as I refine parts of the model the other parts parametrically change as well. late lists of information and how to extract valuable data from them. I’ve used grasshopper in office to convert arboriculturalist excel file into tree geometry, and made various experiments with the software in university, whether it is for daylight analysis, optimization or other.
