While a relative newcomer on the scene, the Salt Lake City Comic Con has quickly grown in popularity to become one of the top ten best entertainment conventions in the world. Its prime location in an easy-to-get-to-town makes it a favorite for con lovers all over the country. This year at SLC, there are quite a few guests we’re eager to see, like Chris Evans, Ian Somerhalder, Felicia Day, Emma Caufield, and Sean Astin. There are plenty of other familiar faces as well, and the fun doesn’t stop there.

Perhaps the biggest draw to the Salt Lake Comic Con is the awesome events they hold over the course of the weekend. There’s a quaint Sunday afternoon Zombie Crawl through the city streets a few weeks before the event, with the option to relive it and play Zom-B Laser Tag all weekend at the con. For those who need a little exercise with their geeky indulgences, the Superhero 5K will get your blood pumping. Maybe you’re feeling more in the mood for love? Try Sci-Fi Speed Dating Friday and Saturday. And then there’s the all-important music to shake it down to, and SLC didn’t disappoint. The Aquabats! will be playing a live show on Saturday night.
We love that Salt Lake City is within driving distance of our hometown and can’t wait to meet some new fans on the other side of the Rockies. The Salt Lake City Comic Con will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center from September 25-27, 2015. Tickets are available at:

War. War never changes. The landscapes shift, the players are altered, and the weaponry sees technological advances, but the war is always there. With the upcoming release of Bethesda’s Fallout 4, the company has shown how much things can change, while maintaining all of your favorite elements of the franchise. Set on the East Coast this time, in Boston, Massachusetts, the game starts before the bombs fall, with the central character having emerged 200 years after the atomic war from their home in Vault 111. Gameplay looks as visually stunning as ever, with brighter colors in rebuilt areas providing a stark contrast to the areas where bombs hit, which present as dark and dreary, much like they would be in real life. In terms of the character, you will play as one part of a husband-and-wife team, developing your physique in the bathroom mirror before setting out to take on the evil that lurks in the beyond.You will find companionship in both human and non-human forms, with the ability to form romantic relationships with the former. While companions are a mainstay in the franchise, Fallout 4 allows you to issue them commands. This extends to the dog, who will be optional, and will never die. If you’re not up on the PipBoy action this go around, let us fill you in: it’s real. And you can really wear one. If strapping that behemoth to your wrist isn’t exactly your cup of cola, you can always download the app to your smartphone and keep an eye on the action that way. It’s clear that Bethesda has stepped it up this go-around, and we’re excited to see what other add-ons up the ante in the new release. There are plenty of hints around the web tickling our fancy, and it’s safe to say November 10th can’t get here soon enough.

While some of us wistfully lament on the lack of summer that comes with the adult life, others among us dread the end of August, as it marks a return to school. We can’t help but feel that life would better had we had the opportunity to get the geeky schooling that only exists on the silver screen. These are a few places we wish we’d put in applications.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Boarding school never sounded this fun… Between the lessons in spells and magic and the constant rivalry on the Quidditch field, we were all ready to dive into Platform 9 ¾ to head for the Scottish Highlands. Alas, brick stops Muggles.

When you think “genius”, you don’t normally think “fun-loving prankster”. Lucky for us, Chris Knight’s time at Pacific Tech in Real Genius proved what many of us now know to be fact: you can be super smart and super fun, pulling all of the best pranks along the way.
Sunnydale High School We’ve all thought, at one time or another, that the doors to our high school were a portal to a place like Hellmouth, but these vampires lived it. Between cheerleading practice and slaying the undead, not a day went by at this place that wasn’t far more eventful than our best day at school.
Greendale Community College
Maybe it’s because Greendale reps itself as a Colorado town, or maybe it’s their “Five A’s” Mission Statement, but whatever the case, we’d love to take a few classes there. With aspirations to be pretty good, Greendale thrives in the way we wish all community colleges did.
Tom Landry Middle School A notable escape from the Texas heat, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Tom Landry lent his name to this fine establishment in the hopes that it would encourage youngsters to learn. We’d probably just go on the off chance that we would get Peggy Hill as the BEST substitute teacher ever.

movie trailer A few weeks ago, attendees at San Diego Comic-Con got a very special look at one of the most anticipated films of 2016: Tim Miller's Deadpool. The footage was violent, over-the-top, and extremely funny... but 20th Century Fox decided to not release it right away. Thankfully, the first red band trailer for the film has arrived online! In Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, an ex-special forces soldier who receives the devastating news that cancer is eating away at his entire body. As a means of trying to stay alive and with the love of his life, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Wilson accepts a deal from a shadowy organization and is given the opportunity to undergo an experimental program that will give him powers. Extreme powers. Unfortunately, Wade is ultimately made the subject of many painful and horrific scientific procedures - the outcome being that he is a scar-covered, super healing, completely crazy mercenary named Deadpool. In Marvel Comics, the character carries the nickname “The Merc With The Mouth”, and it’s easy to understand how the film earned its hard “R” rating. In addition to the steady stream of vicious curses, the violence in the Deadpool reel is pretty damn over the top, with a little bit of sex thrown in as well. While 2016 will be jam-packed with superhero movies, Deadpool is, hands down, the one we’re most excited to see. Even better is that, with a February 12th release date, it’ll come in early and prove to be the perfect Valentine’s flick…if you’ve found the right person.

Aaru’s Awakening is a fast-paced 2D action game, but not one that is like the rest. Setting it apart from the others is the protagonist’s mobility options. He can charge through the air to break walls, get a second jump in, and shoot his soul out of his body as a means to teleport to the soul’s destination. All of the level designs in the game are tailored to and built around these distinctive mobilities. While playing, you can use the charge to break through certain types of walls, double jump to use as a safeguard against falling to an unexpected death, and teleport to places that would otherwise be impossible to reach. This allows for long gaps to be overcome, as well as the ability to travel through small openings, which keeps the pace of the game up. One interesting note is that, unlike many other games, teleportation is Aaru’s only weapon. Since he can teleport ANYWHERE, he uses it to do so into the heart of an enemy. Sinec two beings cannot coexist at the same time, the enemy ceases to live on any longer. Take great caustion, however, because one wrong teleportation could be the end of Aaru.
