The Geffen Playhouse is looking for a payroll manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. The essential responsibilities for this job include the following functions, though other duties may be assigned: Payroll Activities • Maintains personnel records and enters pertinent data for newly hired workers, and changes in data for existing employees in payroll system, as needed; • Records new or adjusted pay rates in payroll register or computer files; • Compiles and processes payroll data including hours worked, taxes, insurance, 401(k) deferrals, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records; • Reviews payroll for accuracy; • Records changes affecting net wages such as federal and state exemptions, insurance premium contribution and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records and human resources information system; • Reviews and verifies accrual balance of vacation and sick days; • Records data concerning transfers of employees between departments and different entities; • Prepares and processes wage garnishments, when required; • Prepares periodic reports of earning taxes and deductions; • Distributes paychecks; • Prepares and processes year-end payroll activities; • Responds to employees’ questions regarding issues related to pay and benefits; and • Maintains and updates all personnel files. Benefit Activities • Prepares and enrolls new employees in benefit plans and processes status changes, as needed; • Investigates and resolves questions regarding benefits, including by contacting health care professionals and other service providers, benefit plan providers, and employees; • Reviews insurance bills from plan providers to verify accuracy, and resolves differences; • Calculates employees’ contribution for benefits and inputs into payroll system; • Responds to notification from state agencies regarding unemployment claims filed by former employees; • Processes and maintains COBRA enrollment participation; and • Produces all payroll and benefit reports from payroll/human resources information system, as required. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS. To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be independent and able to competently perform each essential duty autonomously. • Bachelors degree • 4 -5 years of payroll experience preferably working with ADP software. • Strong knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations related to pay; • Familiarity with accounting principles associated with payroll, benefits. • Proficiency in Word and Excel required. Compensation: $45,000 plus benefits.
