Under the guidance of the Manager of New Play Development, the Literary and Casting Assistant is part of the team that assesses plays and recommends them for development and production. Literary responsibilities of this job include: o Maintaining a database of script submissions as well as correspondence about plays o Helping to schedule and coordinate meetings, readings, and workshops o Reading scripts and writing extensive play coverage (therefore, strong writing skills are a must) Casting responsibilities of this job include: o Scheduling auditions o Corresponding with agents and managers about the constantly fluctuating schedules of actors o Assisting the Casting Director during auditions by checking in actors and operating the camera to videotape auditions when required, as well as sending video of auditions to artists who cannot be present in the room Other responsibilities include: o Editing content for publication o Moderating post-play discussions o Lending dramaturgical support to productions when opportunity allows o Taking notes at Artistic meetings and distributing to the Artistic department post-meeting o Seeing productions on behalf of the Artistic department o Administratively supporting new play programs (including The Writers’ Room playwrights group, readings, and workshops) o Assisting in the further daily operations of the Literary and Casting offices

Candidate must have outstanding communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects concurrently. A college degree is required, and a minimum of 1 year of experience in an artistic office is preferred (experience may include internships). As we work from a place of nurturing artists, we seek a candidate who possesses positivity, open-mindedness, diplomacy, and a sense of humor. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to learn, as your engagement with everything that goes on in the Literary and Casting offices will be encouraged.
COMPENSATION This position is full-time, year-round, including evenings and weekends as necessary. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
