INTRO

In this academic year 2022 we are focusing on...WHEREFORE ART THOU...? In March event we discussed childhood, memory, consciousness and the unconscious using light and installation. And at the July event we built on the previous foundation as we discussed the definition of the word origin for us. Where we come from and in what way we return to our origins. In both events we split into two groups, myself and eight other artists, architects and musicians, and held two origin-based sub-themed events, reverberance and polyrhythm, to develop our series of interactive works together. …WHEREFORE ART THOU…? "In its original context... WHEREFORE ART THOU... is a plea of Shakespear’s Juliet to Romeo to stand for his true self and not subscribe to a tribe that builds up artificial division. One has to decide who you want to be."---AAIS 2021 Guide Book. Through events and performative architecture, we build a common foundation from which to initiate debate and active collaboration. These activities will continue to have a lasting effect on the networks they connect with, digital and physical, creating powerful synergies between them.

ORIGIN

Dream in a dream. This is the time of a new one. Keep this one safe, don’t share it with one you don’t trust Here is the question:do I trust myself or not?The lemon juice you left in my back yard is sweetest. I want to be a dreamer. I want to be willful enough. willful for my happiness, willful guys are always be loved in the end of the world. Will I see you again? What do you want? what do you want for me? stay alive, stay active, stay committed. What do you want, what do you need? A beat, a background music... Where is my juice, its life, its taste, its live music? Your passion can go either way destructive or creative, promise me you will make an effort to do right. I promise. I wish. I hope. I think. I dream. I'm awake. Are you brave enough to face the world? All sorrows will be transformed into sweet fruits and let you pick them freely. like the lemon juice skim through my arm, quite shining and nice smell. There are bitter and sweet. Accept the imperfect self, accept the imperfect world. I wish it was simpler, I wish I could make it simple, maybe its because we are given an option, imagine if we had no choice.... forgive yourself. "I cannot see what flowers are at my feet" I wish I was brave enough, so i won’t miss the beautiful flower. But i still believe i don not have to chase the light desperately. I can also gain strength by looking for the whole picture of memory in the dark. I dream i could be here. I dream i could be there. memory is in the beautiful flower. The world is hazier than imagined. Joy, anger, sorrow. Moments are defined clearly in my heart. How do you remember? How do you forget? can’t stop thinking, can't stop dreaming. About death and the past. Friends coming and acting in my dreams. Voices out of nowhere. And then all this noise that we have produced. Searching for that silent space and then. Break free from concrete. And then become a mediator and help survive and then? what is then if there no present? what is past if you’re not present.

My Colleague-Can Aksan's Poem

What do you want then? what do you want out of life? do you want to learn? wear? eat? feel? I once feel in love with an object because it was less work than a human. Do I love you because you are human? do I detest you for your humanity? Should I place coins on your eyes, I recalls you in winter's night, and the white roses you sent. Nothing regrets, nothing painful, there is only imagination, there is only illumination. I want to pick every beautiful flower. I don't want to miss the present and create a regretful past. Swaying lake water, sparkling stars, why my heart is never silent. Why i cannot move my eye from the past? Once in a lifetime: Hello, goodbye. The memory in the middle is the last gift that time left for me. What do you mean? Tanghinia? Spanish? Ma? I don’t want to remember; the past is like wallpaper that i don’t look at. But I remember there's a spot on the wall: does it look like a mould? a cloud? or a gust of wind? How do you feel time, through your skin, your breath, feel it in every moment, feel it growth I never look at the spot until it grows bigger and bigger

"ORIGIN"

Our group presents “reverberance" which focuses on the creative void. This is a multi sensory live performance hosted by the Yue Art Museum. The installation is generated by memory patterns that are crystallised during childhood. The forms are symbolic of memorabilia and architecture that hold nostalgia like the adult tree house, the music box and origami children games. In this performance, dancers will activate the space by treating it as an instrument. The performance aims to realise ones own naïvety and negotiate dualities in creative spaces. MARCH EVENT -

The memory space is created from childhood to adulthood. This exhibition covers the growth process of a being with series of installation that follow up a journey. The journey is created through multi-sensory experiences. The notion of hiding is translated to design language through spatial means and seeking is translated through performance. The past is perceived through the memory field. There is a play of scales, we perceive this space through the eyes of a child. Following the memory space the path deconstructs and fragments appear. The experience of the fragments then resolves into a dreamland which generates a feeling of a shelter. This land gives a sense of protection. The time is expanded and collective dream is activated. The initial part is an experience of from nothingness to the memory field. It examined the childhood dreams and memory creation. The second part then have an more individualistic point of view where fragments are an indication for broken memories. Then the third part is the growth process leads into a collective field and the feelings of togetherness is generated. AAIS March Event INSTAGRAM Teaser https://youtu.be/5qebeTWDfUg

MARCH EVENT -

"ORIGIN"

REVERBERANCE

Based on the proposed keyword PLAYGROUND, we began to imagine the possibilities for our installation and exhibition. We discussed a range of factors that we needed to resonate with childhood memories, how we could create an adult playground, start our HIDE AND SEEK in this venue, and in the meantime start looking for a performance venue. Whether we could provide the atmosphere for the venue and what kind of exhibition we could offer. This was a major part of our discussions this week. In the end, we were able to find a childhood memory of the origami game, a process full of fun and memories, and a performance that combined the process of origami with the process of hide-and-seek.

MARCH EVENT -

When the time comes everything ends. When the time comes you travel. Where the time comes and where the time comes from? Does the time generate smell or the smell calls the time? Why does it Always Rain on me? Or does it? Is it because I run away from all the love I had. Where did you leave the original heart? Why did you spend so much time with the half-loved ones? What have you searched in the disturbing smells? Couldn’t you feel, and now that might lead you to the underground. The exhibition is an invitation to discover the reason behind the choices and actions of a person and aims to analyze it through childhood memories. Then translate the analysis and showcases the result as a dream field. In this domain audience can hear, smell, touch, and experience, come face to face with their subconscious and get to know themselves a little better. After the exploration, the visitor can see some of the conflicts they have faced in the past and also re-visit joyous memories of their youth. Dreamspace made tangible and our intention is to open the original heart of the experience and the participant. Will you be ever loved and can you love anyone? Where will we meet again? Can we meet at Part 3? Where are you? In which smell can I find you? In which sound? Love of love of love...

ORIGIN² POARGRADUATE AA INTERPORFESSION STUDIO JULY EVENT

There are many differences between London and Beijing, as materials in London are more expensive, and you need to be more involved in the transportation and production, so you need to be more careful in controlling the budget. It was a huge challenge for schedule as it was very difficult to buy materials due to the epidemic.

In this July Event, I focused more on costume design, model making, scheduling and budget control. Due to the support and trust of the team, I was able to work independently to control the design and concept of the costume. And in this performance event, I successfully completed the live- streaming challenge, and after overcoming the limitations of the internet connection, I was able to put together a successful live performance on the zoom, thanks to the online support of my team members Yunheng and Chen, who supported me throughout the streaming run sheet as the zoom meeting host and ensured the internet connection as the zoom meeting prior audience. JULY EVENT-ORIGIN²

Using the concept of the “Adult Tree House” and a jumping-of f point we continue to investigate the metaphor of a shelter and what it takes to build and sustain a safe heaven. We are inspired the initial premise of the story of the Tower of Babel and we really want to create a unique performance experience where dif ferent dialects and creative disciplines interact with each other. In the process, we will create a unique synergy and a stylised way of telling a story.

CONCEPT

We were thinking of creating an outdoor perfor mance incor porating perfor mative architecture/ Kinetic sculptures that can be activated by the wind or other environmental forces that they exist in. We are looking to create a sculpture that when choreographically a c t i va t e d w i l l p r o d u c e a d o m i n o e f f e c t throughout the whole performative space.

We created a 3-part script and have people from different artistic disciplines interpret the parts through their own 3-parts score. And then we layered the media to creat a comples narrative. It is important that each artist uses their own interpretation, so they produce their score in isolation.

Each artist gets this list of 3 prompts in order Each artsit has to interpret and define them Our group collects all these interpretations and like a dramaturge. . We put together a production, layer the information to creat an epic performance.

JULY EVENT-ORIGIN²

During the week we started to work on the digital modeling of the model design according to the schedule and the possibilities that we could have. library of alexrander inspired the hexagonal shape of the model and the tower element of the babel towel led to a series of discussions about the form that the final installation would have to take.

JULY EVENT-ORIGIN²

When it comes to the implementation of the scheme, we will use the same element over and over again, based on the march event tube element, to create our "tower" with a sense of simple and beautiful lines.

For the costume I injected a more personal idea, God pushed the tower to push people to stop speaking one language, and I wanted a series of costumes that also refer to the structure of the tower to tell the story of how people do not have a fixed gender, this set of csotume is the highest support for people who have a different understanding of their gender. The hat is designed to feel like a branch, with small circles representing the texture of cells, which contain all the information of life. And for the chest part, I have referenced elements of armour. It is strength from the inside out. So I used the inner bones of the human body to illustrate the inner strength of the human being. And the base of the tower is in the shape of a skirt, made of metal blended with transparent water pipes to form a strong yet soft form.

JULY EVENT

Based on the experience of the last event and this event, live-streaming is an absolute team work, which needs to be prepared together with colleagues beforehand for plan B. Producer and director and work need to be clearly separated, the director can be responsible for proofreading the run sheet, while the most basic live-streaming is to ensure a live adjustment. The most basic live-streaming task is to ensure that there is a live-adjustment camera on site, and that the audience is evacuated to prevent blocking the view of the camera. A director can be plan B and the audience member plan C. But the most important thing is to make sure that the network is working properly.
