Frequently Asked Questions How does Carlton Lodge make sure the activities are safe? We do everything we can to ensure your visit to Carlton Lodge is safe and enjoyable. Through proper governance including inspections by the Health and Safety Executive to retain our Adventurous Activities licensing service license, regularly reviewed risk assessments, Environmental Health inspections, Adventuremark Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge assessment and observation of instructors by the Chief Instructor and their deputy. We strive to meet the highest standards to minimise and remove any risks associated with adventurous activities.

Do group leaders need to participate in the activities? We feel that the participation of group leaders and young people together on activities can be a very powerful tool. Many group leaders reflect on the improvement of the relationship between themselves and young people after completing a residential course. We therefore actively encourage group leaders to fully participate in all the activities.

What dietary requirements and allergies can you cater for? With over 5000 young people visiting each year, we come across the full range of dietary requirements and allergies. This means we have the experience to deal with any special requirements your group may have.

Do we get our own building to use? We provide each group with its own building. Upon arrival we provide you with the keys to the accommodation, this gives you the ability to come and go as you please as well as providing that piece of mind that the building is secure when you need it to be.

What Carlton Lodge staff support is available at night? We give the group leader the telephone number of the ‘Duty Manager’ who can be contacted to deal with any problems. The responsibility of pastoral care of the young people rests with the group leaders with, of course, our support.
