The Connected Genealogist Guide to Getting Started With Blogger Create Your Blog Creating a blog is quick and easy with Blogger since the process is very streamlined. You must have a Google account. Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ if you need to set up an account. 1. https://www.blogger.com. Login with your Google login and password. Click Sign In.

3. In the Display Name field enter the name to be used as the author of your blog posts. Also, mark the box labeled I accept the Terms of Service (and be sure to read Blogger’s Terms of Service agreement). Click Continue.

2. In the Blog Title field enter the name of your blog. In the Blog address (URL) field enter the name of your blog and then click Check Availability. Click Continue if the blog address is available.

Note: You cannot use spaces or special characters (such as ?, *, etc.) in your blog address. If the blog address is not available you will be asked to enter a different name.

4. Next, select a template (you can always change the template later). Click Continue.

5. And you’re done! And ready to create your first post by clicking Start Blogging!

Now that your blog is set up, you are ready to create your first blog post! Write an introduction to your blog describing your goals and yourself.

Create Your First Post 1. Enter a brief title in the Title field, enter the text in the main window, and add a descriptive tag in the Label field. Click Publish Post.

2. The post is published. Click View Post.

Your first post appears on the blog!

Customize Your Blog 1. In the upper right corner click Customize.

4. Next you will be asked to configure the gadget.

2. The Layout tab appears. Click Add a Gadget in the right sidebar.

5. Once configured, click Save. The gadget will appear in the sidebar.

3. The Add a Gadget dialog appears. Scroll through the list and click the (+) sign next to the one you want to add.

6. Click View Blog to see the gadget on your blog.

Change Blog Settings

Formatting

In the upper right corner click Customize and then click the Settings tab.

In the Formatting section, make sure you set your Time Zone.

Basic

Archiving

In the Basic section, make sure you enter a Title, Description, and under Select Post Editor, choose Updated Editor.

In the Archiving section, select the frequency for your archives.

Comments In the Comments section, make sure you Show comments, decide who can comment, and select Always for comment moderation

Permissions In the Permissions section, under Blog Readers, select Anybody.

Choose a New Template 1. In the upper right corner click Customize and then click the Layout tab.

2. Click Pick New Template. Select a template and a template version. Click preview template to see how your blog will appear with the new template.
