ue to the negative reactions and unfavorable response from non-academic scholars of the university regarding the issue of 2.25 cut-off of grades to qual-
ify for the scholarship program, Hon. Pacifico Aniag, university president, decided to revoke his resolution of implementing the condition. This matter is due to the memorandum disseminated by the Office of the President last November 15 regarding the guidelines on scholarship the program of the university. It was stated on the memo that scholarship grants for alumni, faculty and staff children, dance troupe, concert chorus, and TELON members, athletes, church workers, publication staffers, college governors, and supreme student council officers should have no grade lower than 2.25 or with an average grade of 84-86. After the note from the president was publicized, students had petitioned and reacted upon the cancelled changes. Based on the statement given by Prof. Michael M. Santos, Director, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the number of
non-academic scholars would decrease by 70 percent if the cut-off would be fully implemented, so he clarified that there will be no longer 2.25 cut-off. He further stated that the reason for pulling back the scholarship is the burden of the students in maintaining their grades. The administration admitted that if this deal were implemented, the number of scholars would be unavoidably lessened. Meanwhile, Santos clearly stated that more non-academic scholars can still enjoy the scholarship program as they put their full effort in nurturing their skills and talents and continue to give honor and victory to the university. ‘’It’s like an answered prayer talaga na hindi natuloy yung 2.25 cut-off na ‘yun kasi talagang mahihirapan kami at siguradong mawawala yung scholarship namin. Salamat sa kanila,” one of the alumni scholars said.

She also dicussed to the participants the essential aspects of working with a
team in reaching certain goals. Mones encouraged all the participants to practice what they learned on exercises and activities they did during the seminar. “Siguro ngayon, mas nalinawan na ‘ko sa dapat kong gawin para maging successful in the near future. Dr. Mangiduyos said on a part that the program was not the end of their campaign but only the start. Proving this, the organizers started collecting relief goods from the volunteers and offered themselves for the betterment of the sufferers. The whole community of WU-P also anticipates that this is not really the end in helping the nation, but the beginning for its transformation. Maring and Habagat hit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on the third week of August leaving casualties and property losses. Eventually, PAGASA declared class suspensions in some areas of Luzon.

Mamauag also revealed that reviewing how to create bills and resolutions, understanding Robert’s Rule of Order, doing a benchmark on adoptable laws from other countries, visiting the Philippine Model Congress website, and simply putting the Philippines into heart and mind are necessary. The Wesleyanian qualified to be the representative of Nueva Ecija for the congress because of the presidential positions he held in the Supreme Student Council, Rotaract Club of Cabanatuan City and Philippine Association of Campus Leaders, along with his participation as a Filipino Ambassador to the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS).

posting of papers on walls for message distribution purposes. The University Text Blast, likewise, aims to individually inform students class suspensions and other urgent announcements for a faster circulation through messages in their cellphones. The LCD Screens, will be installed at Main Gate Hallway, Mańacop Building, Adminsitration Building, Computer Science Building, Auditorium Lobby, University Foodcourt and EZE Building. Genre and the administration hope for its success, for they believe that it will benefit everyone in the university.
His familiarity in creating resolutions as a former College of Engineering Representative and Deputy Speaker to the Supreme Student Council also helped him to be selected for the assembly. He was also chosen by his colleagues and the Executive Board of the Philippines to be the Committee Chairman 5 that is composed of 100 young legislators. “I felt the pressure because I knew then that what I will be handling is a committee composed of the cream of the crop, the chosen few, those who have fighting spirit and patriotism were indubitably high and those who have a brighter hope for our fatherland,” he said. Meanwhile, Mamauag’s future plans as a representative of the Philippine Model Congress includes the promotion of deeper patriotism among youth, empowerment of youth involvement, search for more bills or resolutions and the aim for higher level of experience through participation in Model United Nations.

Valle Cruz and to resolve the environmental problem of the city with the plastic waste, the Office of the City Mayor of Cabanatuan passed the Ordinance 015-2012 also known as ‘No to Plastic Ordinance’. The office started to disseminate notices in populous areas in the city last June. The new city decree to start on September 1 prohibits the use of plastic bags and Styrofoams in commercial and grocery establishments. The ordinance requires market-goers in the city premise to use eco-bag or baskets when buying goods in supermarkets and groceries. The ‘no to plastic’ campaign puts exception when buying wet goods, which cannot be supported by paper-manufactured containers. The ordinance further prohibits offering and selling of plastic bags in all stores, markets, service providers, pharmacies and other establishments. Entities which will not comply with the ordinance will be subject for cancellation of business permits with fine as

he start of the academic year 2013 – 2014 marked the reign of the new Supreme Student Council (SSC), as they looked for solutions to the existing school problems to promote the welfare of the students, and to protect them from any violation and inequality. More than 100 days have already passed since the new SSC has been elected and started working alongside with the Office of Student Affairs, and Genré—the central publication of our university. According to Juan Rolando Dizon, SSC President, their current focus is on creating campaigns that will help promote the well-being among the students and staff of the university, as well as those that will educate everyone about the local and national issues which will impact the university, one way or the other. First Student Congress – “Preparing Minds for a New Beginning” This was an event exclusively attended by the School Administration, College Local Councils and the Supreme Student Council. Members of these organizations took an oath of service and were familiarized with their roles in the university. Honesty and Integrity Drive – “Cheaters are Losers.” Visual materials were posted across the different college buildings, reminding all students about the implications of cheating towards their personality and future career. University-Wide Membership Drive – “Lumipad, Lumawak, Lumakas.” This tapped on the different school organizations of Wesleyan University – Philippines and gave them the time to recruit new members. Some of the organizations that took part in this program include Telon (theater arts), Genré (campus journalism) and University Concert Chorus (musical performance), among others. Cleanliness Drive – “A BottleField: No to Trash Blast” As an ongoing campaign as of this writing, this aims to make WU-P a “Zero Waste Zone”. SSC is still planning on how to engage everyone in this cause. Campaign Against Violence and Vices – “No to V Virus: Vices Meets Violence” This was a university-wide campaign that informed students about the negative effects of vices and how such addictions can lead to acts of violence. Free Drinks for Palarong Wesleyan – “Operation BIG UHAW” This was SSC’s way of serving the athletes of Palarong Wesleyan 2013 through sponsored beverages, thus replenishing their body after a tiring game.
So far, these are the accomplishments of the current Supreme Student Council, which could stand to prove that they are doing their duty to serve the students. However, these campaigns still leave much to be desired, according to some students who expressed their dissatisfaction during an interview conducted prior to this report. Some said that the current SSC board lacks “tangible” outputs and the aggressiveness to execute their programs fast, while others claimed that they were not even aware that the organization exists at all. Despite all these criticisms, many students still believe that the Supreme Student Council is not sleeping their duties off—a popular notion among college freshmen who were able to participate in various campaigns led by the student government. According to Dizon, their organization has a lot of innovative plans to make Wesleyan University – Philippines a better place to study in. Some of the lofty ones include a University-wide Feedback System, an overpass between the College of Engineering (CoE) and College of Computer Science, and a centralized headquarters for all the College Local Councils, among others. However, each project and campaign proposal undergoes a stringent due process which could either realize their plans. “I guess, that’s the disadvantage of having new officers every year. They have to start from 1 again; and an advantage because of new beginnings. However, it’s hard to start all over again…And with time and budget constraints, ang hirap pala gawin ng pagbabago all in two semesters,” a College Local Council president shared the same sentiment That statement summarizes the challenges that the Supreme Student Council is going through right now—in pushing project proposals for approval, and in making ends meet just to accomplish their plans within the limited resources. Amidst all these, Dizon is still hopeful that the next turn of events will prove to be more productive for the Supreme Student Council. He also encourages all students to participate in each campaign and program that the organization prepares for them. That way, the school administration will see that each peso it releases for the SSC programs actually bears fruit—and does not merely go to waste.

ministration said that it is prepared to provide the needs for research, as well as the outreach programs. Thus, he encouraged the faculty members to pursue their doctoral degree as prescribed by CHEd. He said that the university is willing to offer more doctorate courses. The administration will also link with the other institutions in different countries. As said by Mr. Aniag, four colleges of the university are currently connected with foreign schools. Among those mentioned are Hyupsung University in South Korea, Emory University, West Virginia Wesleyan College and LaGrange College in USA. The univer-
sity’s linkages will still be continuous and expected to connect with more institutions. The task force will also provide rules to assure higher passing rates in board examinations. Aniag commended the Selective Retention Policy (SRP) of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program as well as the screening of Nursing graduates for licensure examination. The president looks forward to apply the same policy with licensure examination for teachers (LET), engineering, and criminology. The memo also contained the traditional graduation requirements. It stated that no student shall be allowed for graduation unless he or she complies with all the academic and other requirements for graduation; completed at least one year of residence in the university immediately prior to graduation.
fter his Chinese Yoyo (Diabolo) exhibition in the Grand Finals of Talentadong Pinoy Worldwide: Battle Royal last August 18 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, the Filipino people around the world chose Spyro Marco to be the Ultimate Talentado. The 4th and the last champion of the said original talent show in the Philippines, Marco Angelo Bulaclac Betito in real life, 19, swayed the six other Hall of Famers comprising the power-belter Sor Apao, the illusionist JB Dela Cruz or Laserman, the soulful singer Rina Forbes, the contortionist Larvae, the hip-hop dance troup Nocturnal and the WCOPA (World Champion of Performing Arts) victor Haina Udin through various styles of playing his yoyo. He surprised the competition’s six
judges composing of Edu Manzano, Jose Javier Reyes, Derek Ramsay, John Lapus, Sharon Cuneta and Judy Ann Santos who all gave him standing ovation. “During the performance I was very nervous but I managed to perform well by using the most of what I can do to connect with the audience, and a lot of showmanship,” Betito said regarding his feeling about his performance. He also added that he could not believe the moment when the hosts declared him as the winner. All in all, he took home Php. 1,000,000 and house and lot as grand prizes, with additional Php. 20,000 for his title as the Texters Choice. Meanwhile, Wesleyan University-Philippines, his current school, rejoiced on his triumph as his fellow students and the administration supported him on his battle. Betito presently is taking up Bachelor
of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering on his second year. He was born and raised in New York, USA Betito stated that the discovery and development of his ability started by watching masters performing Chinese Yoyo in Disneyworld since childhood. He said that he joined the talent search because his grandmother, Thelma, suggested him to join after he showed a demo routine and he wanted to expose him self more. The ultimate champ also thinks that he has a unique and impressive talent, good enough for nationwide TV to be amazed. His parents and grandmother, the directors of Talentadong Pinoy, Michael Jackson and God, he said, became his inspiration during his fight. He thanked all the friends, schoolmates, supporters and God for his victory in the talent search.

Former SSC erects connection path

With the aim to represent a connection among the students, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and the School Administration, former Supreme Student Council constructed a connection path which was finished before the academic year 2013 – 2014 began. The Connection Path costed P 477,584.00 to finish and was inaugurated on April 30,
2013. More than just shaded a path, it also connects different key places in the campus, including the John Wesley Park, Administration Building, Technology Building (CoE) and Research Building. Led by its Former President Anne Clarice Malibiran, SSC intended the said project for the harsh elements of the weather. This will help everyone to have an access to their destination and even in getting transportation in times of unexpected flooding caused by

heavy rains. The entire pathway was elevated by almost 2 ft. to keep students from the occasional floodwater during every rains. Likewise, the walkway across the Admin Building and Technology Building features an elevated platform to help students cross safely, especially with the presence of campus vehicles. Meanwhile, inline with their principle ‘relationship without right conncetion is meaningless’, they dedicated the said project
to the Lord, whom they believe the reason of their understanding of the real purpose of connections. On the other hand, even before its completion, the student leaders expressed their gratitude to the University President Pacifico B. Aniag and his administration for their support to strengthen the connection in WU-P. They said that he is the only president who made the right conncetion, thus they called him ‘student centered leader’. from WU-P joins page 1 ...Philippine government and even in the university should be eradicated to gain progress for the nation and for every Filipino. The event showcased their expression of oneness for the struggle against PDAF in support to the people who attended the Million People March at Luneta Park last August 26. The post press conference made an avenue for Mangiduyos, Rev. Hubert Rigor, university chaplain and student leaders to express their calls regarding the corruption issue. This was broadcast over DWUP 89.7 FM. Dr. Mangiduyos with students of Konseho Critiko, Environmental Life (E-Life), Safe Space, Holy Club, and John Wesley Academy (JWA) lent their hands for the success of the event.

aybe I’ve seen enough, heard enough and already been pissed off by the reality that each of us is acting as if nothing is happening.
Many words have been said; many thoughts are already proven but is it really necessary for us to fight for all the wrong, erroneous and immoral things that we noticed because we are considered the “voice of the students”? I suppose yes. In my third year of being a campus journalist, opportunities are unlocked. To see beyond what others can’t; what is happening in our society, in our community, and even in our own institution. It is not to be feared on what others might think but if it is the truth, why wouldn’t you speak for what is definitely needed to be spoken? I’ve been thinking of ways on how to deliver my view about what matters around our campus and on how I can interpret it into simple words that will make you consider looking beyond what is usually seen by the eyes. I know that beauty is one of the things, which I am sure, majority of the students want to achieve. But is it required for a Christian university to focus on “Beautification” of such things while deep within, a shout of viciousness burst from all the concealed individual desires? It seems like nowadays, we are only concerned with what our physical characteristics appear to others. Like for instance. Isn’t it enough for you to cover your body with different shades of ‘stones’? Not gemstones but rather stones that don’t even cost a thing when it is revealed that underneath all the revitalized skin is a landscaped foolishness that works even underneath the pores. I just hope that there is still a chance for you to peel away all the bad vibes that you have and stop imposing others to follow certain traditions that shatter all the goodness that this school really is all about.
Another thing, haven’t you had enough of putting splashes of ‘foundation’ on your face? And afterwards, haven’t you realized that the insecurity you have in your body costs others to think of you as a hypocrite who implements these ‘wicked cosmetics’ such as the corruption of your being, but doesn’t even know what the real essence of it. Do I have to elaborate what that campaign really means? Or is it righteous for these awful things to stay long and cause more damage before we put what that ‘CHARACTER’ really stands for. What are we really inspired of? In making further camaraderie while we are being attacked by the seven signs of skin aging. Why don’t you try to use 400e, meaning 400 times the Education. See? Try to rejuvenate your brains to promote SCHOLARSHIP and not your silky smooth skin. Speaking of camaraderie, to whom do we really lend our SERVICE for? The outside entities which made our skin lighter in just seven days? Or our healthy cells that needs antioxidants in order to stay young and healthy? With regards to ‘Cells’.These cells are commonly referred to as the basic unit of life, therefore making it the primary investors of your body, our body. We have to take good care of each ‘cell’ in order to protect what I refer to as the ‘Organs’ or you will just have to take the fact that these organs may not only be the reason for your body to work but can also cause the disruption of your body through these overflowing cancer in our society. Maybe I’ve seen enough, heard enough and already been pissed off by the reality that each of us is acting as if nothing is happening. I know that generally it is terrible to be selfish, but if it is for the betterment of humanity, try to consider the natural and safe way to apply every commentary to yourself before you can execute them to
others. It is not that hard to change the wrong ways. It is still your decision where you would choose to put yourself in the situations that you know what is right and what is otherwise, so that you can deafeningly say to others that this is my skin, ‘Putingwalangtinatago’. Besides is there anything to be hidden? The organs need the sufficient funding of blood in order to work properly. We are already aware of this since our elementary years. It is a matter of you, realizing it, before you can be regarded as healthy again. To what extent do the edge of glory are you willing to risk before you will become conscious that your focus in the physical attributes to your body causes your brain cells to become blunt; making your whole being work inappropriately. Interlude. Are you having fun yet? Protect every inch of your body, external and mostly internal from Ultra Violet damage that promotes five times the protection than the regular skincare that can free your being from the environmental stress that we are encountering at times that we need the ‘blood flow’ most. Maybe, I’ve also said enough, and my thought doesn’t need to be proven because the specifics are just laying or rather lying around. No doubt I’ve been devoted to my body for the past years, have’nt I? It made me the person that I am today; sculpted to view not the future, but the honor to have the right to be heard. You have the choice. Hear them. The shout for help of each cell, each organ and each being inside of you or you’ve already heard them but still continue to be ignorant. Act now before it is too late. Consider the most significant ideas around you. Do not confine yourself to your own specific intentions. It doesn’t hurt to have a heart that tells you, “You’ve caused enough trouble”. Are you confused of the words? Try to dig in further for more information. Or try to view this link “How’s my Writing?” call LTFRB? I am neither the most upright person that you will know in this institution nor the most voluble. Still I will always say that “The Speechless are not always Voiceless”. And I am proud to say that wherever I go, I can tell everyone that “I have been made. Now, here’s the DIFFERENCE”.

At sabay-sabay kaming kumandirit. (Haha.) At ‘tsk’. Wala talagang pag-asa. May ilang sumubok.
‘Nga-nga’ for the nth time. At minura n’ya ako. I mean, ibang bagay pala. I can make it through the rain…” I mean, ibang bagay pala ulit. Sabay kaming lumingon “…to the left, to the left…”.
On creative leadership I have spent nearly three years experimenting with a single objective in mind: to create accessible, predictably insightful and inspirational atmospheres. I have led the creative department through these environments last year and I’m currently doing it being the managing editor of our publication. It hasn’t been effortless, forcing inspiration is impossible. You have to use finesse and let it move towards you. What follows is what I’ve found to help my co-editors to harness inspiration effectively. On managing a team When it comes to managing a team of creative minds (both writing and visual arts), you have to balance both skills and leadership. Actually, I like to eliminate the term ‘manage’. Why? Because if you have the right people on your line-up, it is not appropriate for them to be managed – they need leadership. They need someone to pull them, not to push them to an answer. In other words, if you trust your team, they’ll come through you. On the other hand, they’ll do much better if they enjoy their tasks and are trusted to work openly when they want to. Why limit your team? Why force them to work the way you want them to?
Accessing creativity Understanding where the inspiration comes from or how you’ve solved the problem isn’t easy, but at that point you don’t care because you’re off and running. Our tools and documentation are accessible and ever-present. What’s both rare and stubborn is a great mind. The concept of “thinking outside the box” is based on the idea of being creative with knowledge. Imagination is vital but without inspiration, it can lie dormant. If imagination is the playground, then inspiration is the gravity that pulls you down the slide, propels you on the swing or bounces you on the seesaw. Without inspiration, imagination is as pointless as a slide in outer space. It’s the powerful force behind creation. As what I’ve said earlier, harnessing inspiration is almost impossible but we can cultivate ideas by finding patterns in our moments of inspiration. Problem-solving sessions We’ve learned that you can’t force inspiration, although we can try to control our environment. Doing so is hard as well because so much plays into it. The problem is that sometimes you have to be inspirational on the fly. Well, practice makes perfect.
Once every week, the editorial team enters the boardroom for at least an hour. We lock the doors, opening it only for late comers and snack deliveries. Our mission is to solve one of our problems. In past school year, we’ve observed that not all students are interested in reading the school paper. Thus, we tried to solve disseminating problems by ‘remarketing’ and found new creative ways to present information for every reader. The role of an impresario had such direct and positive impact on the way we do our task that I am now introducing the role to everyone in this 37-person organization. Why does having an impresario work? Well, certain rules guide the board to moments of insight. First, we identify a very specific problem to solve and stay focused. Secondly, provide the necessary tools to spark inspiration (white boards, markers, paper, etc.). Also reminding everyone to be technology-agnostic! To be not worrying about how we will solve the problems, rather focusing only on the why. Then, telling everyone that there are no wrong answers and ideas (some are just better than others). My team looks forward to their time

Support their ideas, and help them grow. Don’t force your opinions and thoughts. If the group is moving in the wrong direction, ask them questions until they find the right path. In retrospect Managing a team of creative minds is not that effortless. From my experience,
I’ve learned big takeaways. Initially, you have to respect your teammates and their periods of inspiration; protecting them from the day’s distraction and interruptions. You must deliver freedom as a gift because you’ll see boundless gains in creativity from the team. Also try to deeply understand you brain more and its ability to be affected by its environment and lastly, celebrate every failure!

Hindi namin to ginusto.
Oo, at proud akong sabihin yun.
confused o undefined ka man.
Lahat tayo ay may mga tyansang maiangat an gating pamumuhay anuman an gating kasarian.

‘I want you!’ …”.
time.
It’s not obedience. It’s respect. And respect, nowadays, comes too high a cost.

Pork barrel: the denial stage Accruals and deferrals

ocal projects will be raised in the national office for approval and later, put it into national budget. But, will the corruption be solved? “There will be no more NGOs (non-government organizations)”, President Benigno Aquino said on his emergency conference last August 23. The issue primarily concerns the misuse and inconsistencies in pork barrel, also referring to the government program Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). The public’s attention was called as some of the politicians’ names included in the controversy. By the way, pork barrel is the allotment of government funds for localized projects including those NGOs related matters. The pork scam further revealed names of senators and congressmen including the businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles who personally surrendered to PNoy. SEARCH FOR MS. NAPOLES 2013 It took weeks to search for the main person in this issue but it may take a long time to prosecute all of her accomplices. “It is the nature of Filipinos”, said netizen who has been talking about “hugas-kamay, turu-turuan” attitude of our fellows. The persons behind the issue are in the state of denial which seems confusing to us – we find it difficult who tells the truth but we might believe that most of them lie to us. There also exists those ghost charitable institutions in which the promoters became known of their Godly deeds despite
they help no one. They are of no charities. Indeed, they betray the public. They get the recognition together the money of people for their own sake, to buy million-peso cars, to keep it on their pockets. THE 10-MILLION AWARD GOES TO... As the government announced that they will provide a 10-million peso reward, the manhunt gets over as Napoles surrendered to Aquino on the night of August 28. Speculations appeared as Napoles’ surrender is allegedly a scripted part of the telenovela of society. I mean, these bits and pieces made me wonder why Napoles personally came to PNoy if there are other ways to give up. Those things happen sequentially in just a click. Though the key person for the scam has been detained, the cry of the public is still yelling. The shout for social justice is still breaking the silence of the youth. Why do the person who have stolen the money of millions of Filipinos need to be distinguished with other detainees who might have lighter cases? Those positioned persons put special treatment on how Napoles is detained. And all these things create disruptions to the other things that must be solved first. Anyways, let’s talk with the public. MONEY. TRUST. HOW DO MONEY BUY TRUST IN DRUGSTORES?
The money of our people is a big issue. I mean, knowing the Philippines as a poor country, it became even poorer because taxes and government proceeds not to the mass, but to the pockets of some wicked. Some might say, “nasaan na ang ilang libong nakakaltas sa suweldo ko kung hindi naman ako ang nakikinabang?”. The combined taxes of all employees in the entire country make it billion, the stolen billion-peso treasure. Meanwhile, Jim Paredes, member of Apo Hiking Society, says that it’s just like every Filipino lost his hundred peso. If there are approximately ninety to hundred million in the population, it is equivalent of about 9 or 10 billion pesos of bribery. Money might be a huge issue but there is a larger one, the public trust. Money can be replaced at a period of time but the broken trust cannot be easily returned. Putting those corruptions in the public do not only destroys the trust of Filipinos but also some aliens who have been a fan of the pearl of the orient seas, those foreigners who might want to be a Filipino. This has proven that even the largest currency cannot buy trust in leading drugstores to cure the grafts of people. We cannot blame some people doing things against the government. Though our leaders are not a hundred percent bad, I believe that they are not good enough for the people, for the Filipinos. How can we entrust our own money to them if they only put it for their own pleasure? How can we follow them if they are the principal violators of the laws they created? Local projects will be raised in the national office for approval and later, put it into national budget. But, will the corruption be solved? As these bits and pieces get abolished, I hope that the succeeding days or years may have a clear and just governance where everyone should possess accountability of his deeds. The higher-ups should not be deaf to the voices of million people who have marched for justice. #StopCorruption
pag-aralan. Teachers are the agents of constructive change.

I
had been so much miserable until I surrendered and died.
I am tired. I am wounded. I am bleak. I am dead, but perhaps done. What is wrong? I’m fine. I’m just tired, that’s all. But I am extremely tired of not being good enough and trying and not getting credit. I know at the end of the day, they are not significant at all. But unfortunately, I need it not just once in a lifetime, not occasionally, but every time I deserve it. I have to act like a sheep – pleasant, immaculate and obedient. I have to forget about myself. I have to give what they need... what they want. I have to be the sun – bright, dominant and yellow. I have to be brilliant in one’s eye. I have to stun my audience. I have to act like the country’s honourable president. I’d rather have to be not me but it is not me. I am tired and just simply tired of receiving no credit for my hard work, effort and perseverance to impress them. I know I did not have to, but I still did until I became wounded. And I had become worse whenever I hear them putting me down. People would just call my name and put it on rocks until it made me feel I am dead like stone. But that was not really a big issue, for I know I could handle it. But I failed. I failed until I cried. And crying is surely significant to those fiends. However, I am strong, but I am wounded – wounded of always having to be the strong one, of always having to do the right thing. But I know that it definitely made me a strong person...
a real man because I cried. But no matter how I tried to escape from that ghost, it still chased me... until I turned into bleak. And I saw there the things I should not want but I demanded, the things I do not need but I took home. And they were all disgrace to my soul. I searched the world to find them until I got them... until it broke me into pieces and let me lose who and what I am. I looked for myself until I succeeded – I succeeded to wear my weakness, my tears and the reality in me. I wore my insecurities and they made me suffer under the sun. I had been so much miserable until I surrendered and died. And to my death, I know I am still alive but barely breathing. I know I will still live but eventually die. Tire, wounds and depression killed me. It took my life before I realized that life is one long process of getting dead. But what is really wrong? I wish I had an answer to that because I am tired of answering that question. As of now, all I know is that people will do whatever they need to do if they want to slay your presence. But of course, I was ready to fight. It was I just got tired of fighting until I died... in my mind. But then again, I am still alive. I am just thinking that the thought of going to sleep forever is delicious. And I would love it very much. So, if this would happen endlessly, please kill me. Just kill me.

COURSE mo?
Anong course mo?
Bakit iyan ang pinili mo? Walang pera diyan. “Anong course mo?” tanong nila.
Edu-
cation, Criminology, Information Technology, at iba pa? Nakakatampo, nakakasakit at nakapanghihina. Ewan, marahil ganoon talaga.
-Noel Vincent L. thestatue bribery of
E
ven before the Statue of Liberty was built and opened, the golden but abstract tower of corruption has already conquered the world. Since the control was born, along with the establishment of the government, wickedness in money has started to live within the veins of the crowned heads. Considering the fact that money runs the world, it has become the barometer of a society’s virtue and the power of one’s soul as well. But everything ends differently – virtue dies while the society struggles and the power constantly soars while the soul burns in hell. Money, indeed, is the root of all evil. This is where the art of corruption launches itself until it leaves chaos to the mind and spirit of a leader. Yes, a leader, for most of the crooked exists on their image. And, unfortunately, they ultimately cause the poverty of the civilization – leaving famine, terrible crimes and great scarcity on the people’s need. The Philippines, despite of many claims that it is now a progressive country, is still sleeping in the arms of corrupt leaders. Starting from the lowest subdivision of its politics, the Sangguniang Kabataan, up to the highest positions, although not all of them but almost all of them, steal money for their own pleasure. Some politicians would even build school buildings, buy vehicles for special purposes and launch programs for the marginalized. Yes, they help people, but most of all, behind those godly deeds, they know they are just helping themselves to keep the wealth in their pockets. Thus, money and corruption ruin the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treat us like sheep, we are tired of hearing promises that we know they will never keep. Absolutely, they are the enemy of development and good governance and they have been gradually killing the nation’s standing liberty. But corruption must be gotten a rid of. Both the government and the people at large must come to achieve this national goal. Every institution is prone to the corruption and to the vices of their members. If the school would let even a teacher embrace its tactics, it also lets the students to study how to attain it perfectly. Furthermore, if we would tolerate the president to gamble the name of our nation, we also let our own autonomy to be sold. Our liberty is easy to steal, but the battle for justice against corruption is never easy. It never has been and never will be. It exacts a toll on ourselves, our families, our friends, and especially our children. And in the end, as in our case, the price we pay is well worth holding on to our dignity. However, if our country were corruption free and had become a nation of beautiful minds, there could be three societal members who can make a difference – the father who would guide us, the mother who would take good care of us and the teacher who would teach us to take the straight path. But everything is just imaginary. Everything would just be possible in dreams, for in reality, we only have the voice, the brain and the heart, which all turned out futile. But then again, everything can be changed as long as there is hope. If the leaders would continue to treat money, not morality, as the principle commerce of civilized nation, then it means they help build the statue of bribery. But if they would do it with ethics, then they could succeed, for liberty cannot be established without morality, or morality without faith. Thus, time is short and our remaining time to eradicate this is shorter. We have to battle for the glory and liberty of our nation. Corruption is worse than prostitution, wherein the latter might endanger the morals of an individual while the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. Consequently, in a state where it abounds, laws must be numerous. Yet, in reality, we can really get through these if we have great and honest leaders who can take time for the people, and view people as the bottom line, not as a tool to get to the bottom line. This source of corruption, alas, is inherent in the democratic system itself, and it can only be controlled, if at all, by finding ways to encourage legislators to subordinate ambition to principle. Because if not, as what Armos Bronson Alcott said, a government, for protecting business only, is but a carcass, and soon falls by its own corruption and decay. -Jan Adrian F. Delos Santos

I just want that title for my article.
So you telling me amalayer?!

Pero to cut this chase, naikasal din sila. But to be honest, hanggang ngayon naliligaw pa rin ako sa kung saang landas ako tutungo. Don’t English me. I’m panic!
So let’s talk about people. -Rolando C. Iniwan Jr.

has truly been remarkable how modern gadgets changed the phase of our world today. Not only making our daily lives easier, but adding a pinch of luxury and style. Apple as we know it, although it tops the market for several years since the release of iPads, it failed to reach the top ten technological trends for this year according to T3 magaine. An editor of T3 magazine stated that “Rather than a list of what’s best, the Hot 100 is a countdown of kit that has the power to set the next big tech trends. 2013 is going to be an exciting year.” Here are the top ten gadgets for 2013:

This is supported by a new processor, the ‘EXR Processor II’, which includes a new ‘Lens Modulation Optimiser’ function. With an improved user interface and viewfinder, this is a serious camera for serious photographers.

op 6: PaperTab Combining the flexibility of paper with the endurance of digital, PaperTab is set to change the way we work on documents. PaperTab only allows the user to open one thing at a time, but have several papers. technological experience. While you wear the lightweight glasses, you can use your voice to command them to take pictures, record video, send messages, find directions and translate your speech. The glasses connect to the Internet and use Google’s services to create a hands-free smartphone, right in front of your eyes. Google are testing the product on a lucky few who applied to be “Glass Explorers”, but they will be released to a wider audience soon.
op 1: 3D printers 3D (Three-dimensional) printing is already causing waves, with the technology being used in dozens of industries across the world including clothing, engineering and medicine. Using technology which maps out an object, the printers then layer thin slices of plastic or other materials - on top of each other to create a 3D object. It is hoped that 3D printers can provide cheap and quick production, possibly providing solutions to problems such as forensic investigations. Some companies, such as RepRap, are trying to produce 3D printers available for home use, as most are only used in industrial or commercial settings. -Rolando C. Iniwan, Jr.

Tip#6 Shift, Palit, Change- “ There is no permanent thing in the world but change”. At kung magkataon man, wag sanang magkalaglagan. Oh ano? -Ruth Toledo

op 2: Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung unveiled their new Android phone earlier this month in New York, and are expecting it to outsell Apple’s products. Among new feature is the Galaxy S4’s remote technology which allows users to control functions without touching the screen. “Smart pause” means people can pause a video by looking away from the screen, while “smart scroll” lets users scroll through emails without touching the screen, the S4 detecting the movements of the eyes and wrist. Users can also change music tracks or accept a call with a simple wave of a hand. The Galaxy S will be rolled out globally at the end of April, and will be available on several different contracts.

I wanna eat everyday and every night. Our body is our responsibility because it is a part of our lives. Thus, the ideal food intake is at least three times of heavy meals; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some may have snacks in between those times because as we work every day, we always need energy. Food gives energy, too much elementary to inform you this matter. On the other hand, problems do also exist between people. There appears a deadly yet trendy foodstuff. Troubles do not merely occur with the food that gives us energy to work. It is more often on how to feed our minds. As we go concern in our daily existence, the following may supplement our thinking to be positive in life: LIVE LIFE. BE PART OF THOSE LIVING. Do not just merely exist. Though this world is having more than seven billion people, make a contribution. Do good things to others. Participate in social activities. Be a concerned citizen. It is heartwarming to be remembered because of our good deeds and your cooperation with others. LIVE MORE. STAND OUT. There are many aspects of life. Make yourself shine among others. Everybody has a talent and everyone is unique. No two people are exactly alike. Do not be ashamed of what you have and what the Father in heaven has given you. Flairs should not be hidden; it must be shown to the world. LIVE SIMPLY. KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND. One of the greatest virtues in life is humility. Make yourself elastic that even your heads and eyes are on the clouds; your feet are still on the ground. Do not humiliate others just for you to shine. Do not hurt other people for your own fame. LIVE BEST. STILL SEE GOOD THINGS. Though we are facing many struggles, smile. Don’t say that life is unfair. If all say it, then it is fair. We are given different problems because we have different capacities on how to handle things. For no person appears without conflicts. For every difficulty we overcome, makes us stronger. For in every mistake we make, there is learning. LIVE IN HEAVEN. BE THE BEST. Live with God, everything will be alright. Nothing is impossible with Him. Think positive. Do not be afraid of tomorrow. Life is continuous. Everything is still under control. Feed your mind with His words because “For no man shall live by the bread alone but by word that proceeds from the mouth of God”, Matthew 4:4 says. If we cannot avoid eating unhealthy foods, at least, let us feed ourselves with foods for thought. -Jerome O. Estavillo The Central Student Publication of Wesleyan University - Philippines
Ayon kay Paul Morrow, isang Canadian na dalubhasa ng baybayin, “The sad fact is that most forms of indigenous art in the Philippines were abandoned wherever the Spanish influence was strong and only exist today in the regions that were out of reach of the Spanish empire.”

ove comes along in each and everyone’s life. People delineate it in so many ways. And yes, every single utterance claiming its sense is truthful. But take a look on it – does love really have a definition? Affection, they say. But how it started? Do you any have idea? Perhaps, some would say, it started when blah blah blah. But when it goes to deeper sense, a question is formulated. What do you like most about him? Or maybe, what makes you in love with her? Any of those questions is not really necessary to answer. That sort of queries just needs an understanding between the two hearts involved. Nobody could really say what makes them feel that special feeling unto others, for it has really no definition. Love needs no definition. All it demands is to be true. It is, indeed, a blind. We cannot see what we saw before the actual moment until all hearts in the world look for their partners and unite as they started what we call “relationship” BOY MEETS GIRL That is the most memorable moment – when the boy meets her girl. After, of course, of getting to know each other stage, they are set to go in a higher level – perhaps, it could be the relationship. This is the flash when the boy will really know who that girl is and vice versa. Likewise, this is also the time, where in they will figure out the facts about themselves. WOMEN SHOULD KNOW… When a guy is quiet, he is listening to you. When a guy stares at you, he thinks you are the most beautiful girl in the world. When you are laying your head on his chest, he has the world. When a guy calls you everyday, he is in love. When a guy says “I miss you”, he misses you more than you could have missed him. When a guy is in love and he says “I love you”, he means it. MEN SHOULD KNOW… When a girl is quiet, million of things are running in her mind. When a girl stares at you, she is wondering why you are lying. When a girl lies on your chest, she is wishing for you to be hers forever. When a girl calls you everyday, she is seeking for your attention. When a girl says “I miss you”, no one in this world can miss you more than that. When a girl is in love and says “I love you”, she means it. WOMEN’S SOUL Women need to cry. And they won’t do it alone unless they know you can hear them. Women will always ask questions that have no right answer, in an effort to trap you into feeling guilty. Women love to talk. Silence intimidates them and they feel a need to fill it, even if
they have nothing to say. Women don’t need sex as often as men do. This is because sex is more physical for men and more emotional for women. Just knowing that the man wants to have sex with them fulfills the emotional need. Women never understand why men love toys. Men understand that they wouldn’t need toys if women had an “on/off ” switch. Women think all beer is the same. Watch a woman eat an ice cream cone and you’ll have a pretty good idea about how she’ll be in bed. Women are insecure about their weight, butt, and breast sizes. Women like to have house-husband. A woman questioned her self worth sometimes. A woman is intuitive (woman’s instinct). A woman is stimulated by feelings of love. A woman enjoys varied expression of love. A woman needs eggs in the empty nest (offspring). Women fall in love with a humorous guy. Women are too much emotional. Women always want understanding without thinking that guys need it more. Women ar e survivor. Women love to hysterical without knowing the truth. Woman needs to hear the precious words “I love you”.
Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about. When a guy really likes you, he’ll disregard all your bad characteristics. Guys go crazy over a girl’s smile. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend. Guys want to tell you many things but they can’t. And they have one habit to gain courage and spirit to tell you many things and it is drinking! But do not generalize. Guys love their moms but hate gays. You can never understand him unless you listen to him. No guy is bad when he is courting. Guys think too much; their fantasies are unlimited. Guys know how to love… how to be hurt… GUYS CRY!!! -Jan Adrian delos Santos
MEN’S SOUL He is proud to be a man. Job success is supreme. He shows love in tangible terms. He makes decision differently (more on objective). A man likes his woman to stay attractive (model of behave grace). A man receives visual stimulation (pornography). He needs sexual expression of love. He struggles with mid-life challenges (prone to 3rd party). He secretly welcomes encourages. He is sensitive to TLC or tender, loving, and caring.

still remember it, sounds of gunfire and explosions and the cold ambiance of a very dim place. Lights emitted from fires of blast of the muzzle of arms. Many were wounded. Enemy of both lines suffered a bounty of casualties. It was very horrifying... I still remember it, I was sitting amused inside the cinema 4 of Mega Center The Mall shivering because of all air conditioning were on turbo cool. The silver screen projected this war movie in midst of darkness. I was a fourth grade pupil then and I watched this movie because film watching was a requirement for gradeschool then. The Great Raid, was the title of this Hollywood film, inspired by true events and directed by John Dahl. Well, I enjoyed watching it; I just merely enjoyed it but it didn’t make any sense for me at all, then. Seven years later, I remember when I first stepped in this place. Eight miles from Cabanatuan City proper is this Pangatian War Memorial Shrine. “So this is the place where ‘The Great Raid’ happened”, I whispered to myself. I entered the gate and a lone marker welcomed me, written: The Soldier’s Trust, attributed to American and Filipino soldiers who died on this hallowed ground. Form thence, I felt myself travelled to the past. Twenty years before World War II, the site served as a Military instalment for the American troops but when the Japanese had occupied it, it was turned to a torture Concentration camp. Most of the prisoners of war (POW) were survivor of the infamous Bataan Death March. Here, they suffered cruelty and torment and most of them chose to die to stop this hellish experience. At the far end of the compound were two long memorial walls. Listed are names of the American servicemen imprisoned in the camp. On April 6, 2003, provincial government inaugurated a second memorial on an adjacent land. It pays tribute to our Filipino guerrillas who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of those POWs.

I still remember it
I continued to walk as a soldier in stealth mode. I scanned everything in sight until I saw the elevated circular Pangatian War Memorial. It gave me an atmosphere of solemnity although I still heard sounds of vehicles running on the Hi-way. It seemed that I have heard a soldier screaming “Freedom!” this is the only place in Nueva Ecija where the American flag flies beside the Philippine flag. The focal point is a large marble niched simply with the name “CABANATUAN” engraved onto it. A marble atop the niche explains the significance of the sight. Written: “This memorial honors the American servicemen and civilians who died here and gratefully acknowledges the equally heroic sacrifices made by Filipino servicemen and civilians in a mutual quest for freedom, honor and peace...” I opened my eyes and realized I was in the midst of a battle. January 30, 1945, American soldiers and Filipino guerrillas joined forces to capture this concentration camp and to liberate POWs as their main objective. It was the Alamo scouts and the 6th Ranger US battalion under the command of Lt. Col. Henry Mucci who took over the ‘mission impossible’. With the aid of Capt. Robert Prince, the platoon crawled sneakily 500 meters to avoid being seen by Japs patrol. While Filipino guerrillas, led by Capt. Juan Pajota and Capt. Eduardo Joson
were about to barricade the nearest Japs camp to avoid reinforcement when the mission start. The twilight had drifted; they’re on their respective positions - a single shot lit the firefight between guns and weapons. Gunfire and explosions echoed and the cold ambiance of a very dim place made the battle more crucial. Lights emitted from fires of blast of the muzzle of arms. Many were wounded. Enemy of both lines suffered a bounty of casualties. It was very horrifying... At the end of the mission, 516 POWs were liberated, two US rangers killed, Filipinos suffered 21 casualties and hundreds of Japanese imperial army died. This event was now recognized as the most daring and successful rescue mission of its type in the records of US military history. The Great Raid, I still remember it. The movie I watched for a project’s grade that time. I didn’t know the significance of siting there in the cold cinema watching that film. A stash of Nova and a pack of Piattos were all my companions, not to mention my classmate. But now, I remember it. The Pangatian War Memorial Shrine symbolises the patriotism of Cabanatueños, Novo Ecijanos, Filipinos. The Pangatian’s great raid, I will forever remember it. -Aurelio Fergene D. Torres

Kidlat! I can catch lightning! •Law: when there’s thunder, there will always be lightning. Law: lightning strikes before the sound of thunder. Kaya pwede kang tamaan kahit wala pang kulog.

uition and other fees are the basic source of income of academic institutions, especially private schools where no subsidy comes from the government. Being one of the schools with highest fees Nueva Ecija, Wesleyan claims of its topnotch quality of education through scholarship, service and character. Some might say that what students pay are given back through facilities offered by the university. In fact, Wesleyan is unique for having CCTV cameras spread along the campus and even the John Wesley Park. CCTVs that serve as a witness to millions dreams of Wesleyanians. Fees are part of school life. There is no absolute free education. Here under are the preview of some payables that signify our student life:
Tuition Tuition is charged against the number of units of subjects we enrolled. This is also the source of compensation for employees. Most often, students have misconceptions regarding this fee with the proper term “tuition and other fees”. Some students might say, “Nagmahal na naman ang tuition ko”, even there is no increase in tuition in WU-P since 2004. Miscellaneous and other fees have. Registration Student have different registration fees depending on the date of their enrolment. In the latest assessment form, the system has included 600-peso Automate Fee in this payable. While for those who have enrolled early this first semester, automate fee is a part of other fees. Library There are groups of students complain about too much cost of library fee; when only a small percentage of students still
use the library, students use the internet which are available in their cellphones or gadgets. Some even use computer laboratories outside the campus. On a management view, this fee does not only concern about the electricity or other bits and pieces. New books are acquired through this. Student Activity and CLC It is another thing that grabs some students’ attention. If the college local council collects fees for school activities, why does the university have separate fund for it or vice versa? Moreover, SDF has increased by P200 this first semester given the fact there are many university activities funded by the college. Psycho test and guidance A simple question from a freshmen, “If the guidance office offers psychological test every semester, why does it need to have a separate guidance fee?” Make sense.
Psycho test (formerly, testing fee) and Test papers Psychological test, as some notice, was named as “Testing fee” in the previous assessment forms. As complaints arise from parents and students through the student voices, the latter was renamed by the former for a to clarify that it is different from ‘test papers” which are utilized for quizzes and term examinations. Athletic fee and PRISAA PRISAA stands for Private Schools Athletics Association which is different from athletics fee (alongside cultural fee). Some questions, be asked from the management why the need to have redundancy of fees. Everything can be settled. Students only have to ask from the proper authorities -Jerome Estavillo
Maaaring dumaan ang kidlat from one friend to another. Promise! P.S. Promises are meant to be broken. -Avee Rose Toledo
-Brenda Lynne P. s busters of the pork barrel marched at the Luneta Park last August 26, Department of Tourism has once again entered the limelight to give something to millions of Filipinos. This would be something to embark the richness of Filipino culture. DOT said that the flagpole in Luneta is not just a flagpole. With that statement, the department emphasize that the place has a significant part in the Philippine history. THE COST Luneta, formerly Bagumbayan, was the place where our national hero Jose Rizal was executed. The place was also standing in the country’s national capital, City of Manila. DOT estimates that the project costs P7.87 million – which aims to restore what the Philippine has been lost – the beauty of the park. The flagpole was designed to be 150 feet high but curently stood at 105 feet. It was damaged by a typhoon in 1995 yet the government has not put any repair or improvements. EXPENDITURES AND INNOVATIONS Restoring the flagpole entails strenghtening its base’s structural integrity. The Manila South Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways. The project is expected to complete at maximum of four months. That is, to target the 100th celebration of the National Monument of Rizal on Decmeber 30, 2013. There will be some parts to be replaced to strengthen the foundation of the pole. Also,
the department allocated the cost to cover carpentry works, construction safe and health, and project billboards.
REACT! EXPOSE! OPPOSE! DEFEND! “The project is overpriced!” said a netizen on his facebook post. “Probably, this thing would just a waste of money”. Some says that they respect the Philippine flag not in the way by putting some million peso into tiny bits but being committed to their duty as Filipinos. On the other hand, in spite of negative comments on the project, DOT defend on the reconstruction of the pole went into a public bidding and was found “reasonable”. DEALING WITH CLICHE TOPIC: PUBLIC FUNDS The project grabbed the attention of the public as the photo of the project billboard shows the total cost of the restoration. The thing was allegedly possessing another misuse of public funds. We are always talking about, government expenditures and projects and connecting it to the society’s crisis, corruption. The Philippines is a high country but lots of money are being wasted for development, delays are usual. We mean, that December 30 may not be a possible day to complete the project. -Jerome Estavillo Source: facts from Philippine Daily Inquirer, Yahoo
earthlings are from mars
Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars
But
Human beings are Martians as another theory crops up regarding existence of life on Earth.
“The evidence seems to be a building that we are actually all Martians, that life started on a rock,” said Steven Benner, a professor at the Westheimer Institute for Science and Technology in Gainesville, Florida. FLARE-UP OF NEW THEORY The revelation of the new theory burst when Benner presented this topic at the international conference of geochemists in Florence, Italy. According to The Times United Kingdom, Benner’s theory hinged on the idea that the primitive soup on Earth was missing several elements which are necessary to convert simple chemical building blocks into polymers that are capable of forming complex and self-replicating structures. HOW THIS TURNS OUT? The main ingredient was an oxidized mineral form of the element molybdenum, which helped prevent carbon mol-

CRAMMING
Procrastination blues Filipinos are really born Filipinos. We really have what it takes to be what we are. And indeed, it is proven in every exertion we perform. Most of the things we do are face of a culture wherein last minute is more important than the lifetime. In Wesleyan University-Philippines, this convention is modified by the students. Ultimately, an apprentice’s soul defines the most commonly utilized way, for others, of succeeding to their respective bustles. Absolutely, for those who have no time to accomplish their school responsibilities (like when examination is nearly approaching), students all have to do is cram, and cram and cram. Cramming has various analyses, for some say it is good way to achieve one’s goal in a very short period of time, while some utter that it is an awful manner for success. But whatever people say, we all procrastinate for different reasons. And oftentimes, we speed up our academic responsiblities at the last minute because wo do not carry it out in early flashes. So, here it is. For the students who always rush their review

ecules from degrading into tar-like substance. Through oxidation, the oxygen molecules interact with other substances such as the stated one. Three billion years ago, the surface of the Earth said to have only a minimal amount of oxygen, thus, it is likely impossible to have life without outsourcing from the neighbour planets. Benner said that the molybdenum was then only available from Mars before Earth. Furthermore, he stated that Mars is a planet surrounded by comets, asteroids and meteoroids, which most of them strike the Earth’s surface. “Life has started through a bacteria on a rock. It travelled to Earth’s surface billion years ago”, as he supported the existing evolution theory of Charles Darwin. Darwin’s theory of evolution explains how a protozoon turned into different types of life forms. The element would have helped to nur-
sessions, a devise was formulated to complete all your needs in terms of examination time. KNOW WHAT MUST BE KNOWN Don’t be too much intelligent, wherein all data in the book will be kept in your mind. Don’t act as a genius; you are still a student, okay? So, better nourish your mind with what you just need. If you have hard time deciphering what your professor will test over, explore the lessons you have taken up in the book. There are facts, summaries and overviews that serve as an outline for the most important things to be reviewed. CRAM THEN SLEEP Cramming works best with enough time to stuff. It is a fallacy to start evaluating all the lessons at 2 am the night before a 9 am test (but it still depends upon your examination time). A hazy brain doesn’t recall well. Make sure that you have enough time to rush and most of all, more than enough time for resting and tightly sleeping. GOOD MOOD, GOOD MODE It is really unavoidable that sometimes, while your cram sessions are at its peak, destruction comes along with being upset, pissed and whatever it is. The best thing to do with that case is try to relax. Chill. Forget the outside world and try to focus like you are in an empty room. Do whatever you need to. Find a nice and quiet place like library. PRINT YOUR BLUEPRINT It is not really easy to do all these. And these will never even happen in just a click. Know how you’re going to go about this. Do you mostly need to learn vocal? Do you need to learn theories? Do you need to know formulas? Then, make a plan. Other Suggestions 1. Schedule study time (and exam dates) on your cal-
ture life. It protects the ribonucleic acid (RNA), a cousin of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), from the acidic effects of water. PEOPLE’S SPEAK Some might believed Benner but groups of Christians do not believe in his theory. The Divine theory of life starts from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament, how God gave life to Earth in a week. “The theory seems just to be an attention-grabber, but definitely, a major slouch.” EARTH IS BETTER THAN MARS “It’s lucky that we ended up here nevertheless, as certainly Earth has been the better of the two planets for sustaining life,” said Benner concluding his presentation. If life on Mars came earlier than Earth, then why are there no politics there? Why there is no systems in Mars? -Jerome Estavillo
endar 2. Communicate ahead of time with friends, family and co-workers about your finals schedule and study commitments 3. Break down study time into tasks you want to accomplish 4. Prioritize items you need to review first 5. Don’t procrastinate—Get started early 6. Recharge with nutritious food, water, short breaks, and rest LEARN TO TYPE YOUR EXAM TYPE Memorization Some professors require regurgitating definitions and surely, some students think nothing about the specific words. For a better upshot, try creating a matching test at Easy Test Maker. It’s free and is easier and cheaper than flashcards. There’s also flashcard software available if you’d rather do that. Either way, this is a great way to memorize. Multiple Choices By the time you’re in college, you should be very familiar with the multiple choice type of examination. For sure, you went through it since elementary. So, study important facts, but focus on details. Anything bolded or reiterated in lecture and anything that might be related. Essay Some professors are likely to give essay types of exam, but you can have advantages about it. Getting all data you will need and reading it over and over again can help. It is not necessary to write them. Just try to construct them in some ways that they will be given possibly. If you cannot get it enough, you should strive more… study more… cram more. But if you have already tried everything and it still turns out into nothing, look upward for inspiration, downward for determination and to your sides for more information (just kidding). -Jan Adrian F. Delos Santos
Life isn’t life at all if you don’t know how to live it
Before we can go out into the great unknown, we’ve got to appreciate and know our roots because without them, we won’t be able to appreciate what we’ve got. Let’s hear it from Mother Earth! Difficulties make you stronger.
Flowers that miraculously spring up in the driest deserts have a unique beauty that is made even more obvious because of the harsh environment it’s in. The fact that they’ve grown and blooms just proves that it is possible to face any dilemma and difficulty and can come out as a better version of you. You may think at times that life’s easier for others than you because you are all focus to all the hardships and troubles that you are in, but be comforted to the fact that, when all those troubles pass, you’ll be stronger. It’s better to bend than break.
A bamboo plant is known for its ability to bend in the strongest winds and not be broken. It curves with gentle breezes, twists to follow violent currents, but still stays standing no matter what nature throw its way. It pays to be as flexible as the bamboo—it means you’ll be able to stand strong and face many different changes in your life with a positive attitude. When you’ve thrown in to confusing situations that swing you from one direction to the next, know that life’s just throwing you new lessons for you to learn. Great start from small beginnings.
Mustard seeds is only 2 millimeters in diameter, that practically only as big as the period on a sheet of paper! When these little plants grow, however, they shoot up into huge trees that grow way taller than six feet high. Lot of products can be made out of these seeds too. The tiny seeds of the mustard tree mightseem small next to natures bigger treasures but they hold so much potential. Just like the mustard seed, you may have big ambitions and crazy-sounding dreams that seem like it’s nowhere to be come true in reality – but remember that it doesn’t matter how tiny beginnings may be, the most important thing is you’re not afraid to start somewhere. Plant those roots. Hurdles may cause you weakness but envision it that you’re a tree with strong roots, that no matter how many mighty winds and heavy rains struggles you, you’ll keep on standing strong and tall. Before the
gigantic trees could have ever
shot up to the sky, their roots have to be firmly in the ground. Without these roots, those trees would have toppled all over themselves, leaving the forests in one big mess. Learn to look back to where you came from and appreciate your pastbecause moving forward is so much better when you know how to look back. -Glennel Reyes

Take note of your achievements and strengths Lahat tayo ay may kanya kanyang kakayahan na maaaring naiiba kaysa sa iba.
A DengueVirus Safeguard
I
n spite of efforts to minimize the incidence of dengue-virus and malaria through the use of insecticides, Dagupan City has found an alternative way on at least eliminating mosquitoes. The mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) locally known as “tuyong” was introduced to the country in the 1920’s as to control malaria and later exposed that it can also help to diminish the risk of having an impulsive number of dengue-virus cases. They can survive in both brackish (mixture of salty and fresh water) and fresh water. Female mosquitofish can only reach an overall length of 2.8 inches. Each can lay for about 300 eggs in a month. They can be distinguished from males (which can only reach a length of 1.6 inches), by their size and by a gravid spot at the posterior of their bottom abdomen. Its name was based on the distinctive diet of this specie. But aside from ingesting mosquito larvae, they can also eat beetles, flies, mites and other invertebrates relative to their sizes. Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources ‘National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center (NIFTDC) disclosed that at least 20,000 had been placed into several sewers in barangay Tapuac, on its first batch of release. This behaviour has become a great concern to the health authorities where the community is located so that the agency can endow mosquitofishes in consideration with the interested parties. This specie was also introduced to the other parts of the world as a biological control, however, the negative effect found by the authority that the competition has arrived between them and the native invertebrate predators of mosquito larvae, the environment did not control the balance of ecosystem -Lexter G. Save
Rock & Roll
by Fall Out Boy
Based on tongue-in-cheek turns of phrase and razor-sharp religious metaphors and romantic heartbreak hooks, Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley, and Joe Trohman discovered the perfect formula of musicality plus poetry in no time. Following the unsuccessful release of their album Folie A Deux and Stump’s critical illness, Fall Out Boy’s comeback album Save Rock and Roll is a return attempt to FOB’s pop-punk sphere of dance based foray. FOB’s Save Rock and Roll treats their guitar segments like hood ornaments while allowing Stump’s elastic voice to command the listener to move. Save Rock and Roll is a fist pumping fire-starter with a myriad of muddled music – an art indeed. Containing collaborations with Courtney Love and Big Sean that sure give the audience a head tilt and a frown, it’s an indicator that FOB’s back to having fun with a recharged ambition. The Phoenix “The world is won before it’s begun. Release the doves, surrender love...” A glorious way to begin a grandiose comeback, “Put on your war paint!” echoing in the opening bars of The Phoenix gives a feral atmosphere to the song. The message of the song is loony and clear: Fall Out Boy is back! My Songs Know What You Did In The dark (Light Em Up) “I got the scars from tomorrow and I wish you could see that you’re the antidote for everything except for me...” An obvious Fall Out Boy evolution of sound, My Songs... is macho in musicality and edgy in sound with curly chants and harmonies cresting above Stump’s nervous
energy. The very manifestation of FOB’s punk to pop metamorphosis with a scorching hook. Alone Together “I’m outside the door, invite me in, so we can go back and play pretend...” A c i n -
baseline, the song is an effortlessly drawn thrill that makes undies drop. Plus, it packs Stump’s cleverly sexy play voice, Where Did.. is musical foreplay that’s deffo worth listening to.
Just One Yesterday “I don’t have the right name or the right looks, but I have twice the heart...” Religiously stylish, Just One Yesterday is a classic Fall Out Boy poetry set into guitars and menacing harmonies. A fun, funky torch reminiscent of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. Foxes served as an angel’s choir to Stump’s toothy swagger. The Mighty Fall “Your love is just a pyramid scheme and I’m dizzy on dreams...” An experiment indeed, The Mighty Fall is a poetic rap-rock-pop chimera that wreaked chaos in style. Definitely a head-scratching collaboration that sadly didn’t work out despite hooks and punchlines.
ematic Mobius strip of a pop song, the shifting verses and choruses continuously double back with instrumental twists. Alone Together calls for simple pleasures with that heartbreak hook coupled with poetic lines that’s sure gave the album extra oomph! Where Did The Party Go “Oh I hoped for your name on the Ouija board, and your naked magic, oh dear Lord!...” A very charming innuendo of narrative poetry and musical ballad, Where Did... is a real party goer. Riding on Wentz’s slick
Miss Missing You “Don’t panic! No, not yet! I know I’m the one you want to forget...” Confused to the core, disco-tinged Miss Missing You is an eccentric break-up song that makes your heart dance to it’s pieces and miseries. A painful memory of a sober love affair in an alcoholic delivery, Miss Missing You perhaps contains the best heartbreak hooks in the album. Death Valley “I wanna see the dirt under your skin; I need your broken promises...” turn to page 20
MovieReview Before there was Amityville there was Harrisville. The Conjuring follows the arguably legitimate story of world renowned paranormal experts and devoted Catholics Ed and Lorraine Warren who were called to help a family terrorized by a sinister presence in a secluded farmhouse in Rhode Island. The Conjuring revolves around a haunted house, something very familiar to the horror genre. What makes this hit of the year a stunner is the way it packs that classic edge-of-your-seat, nerve-wracking shockers – pretty neat for the worn-out haunted house flick. Directed by Australian James Wan (Insidious, Saw), The Conjuring records how the Warrens were summoned to investigate a diabolical presence in a house occupied by laid-back non-believers Carolyn and Roger Perron and their five daughters. In Harrisville, birds started flying into the house and breaking their
necks, all the clocks stopped at 3:07 am, then there were the noises. The movie tells the story from two quite different viewpoints: the Perrons and the Warrens. This slightly diminishes the intensity of haunted house movies – claustrophobia, fear, panic – but hugely adds to the sense of documentary realism. Fine acting also helps. Vera Farmiga, who plays Lorraine, delivers an unrestricted anxiety to the plot. We give credit to Lili Taylor, who portrayed Carolyn, for her remarkable drama. She may be an under-used talent but she has the ability to play a myriad of emotions from happy housewife to a mother possessed by a demonic entity ( the sequence where she hunts for her daughter in an ill-advised blindfold game of hideand-seek is a classic). The filmmakers make no attempt in explaining how ghosts operate or any other mysteries surrounding the afterlife. Yes, this may sound like an excuse, but within the picture it adds a sense of discovery as it goes
along. However, its characters are nothing people. The movie lacks in character. For that matter, the tree in the movie poster which plays a significant role in the film packs as much personality as any of its human characters, perhaps even more, despite remaining inanimate yet menacing at the same time. However, vigilant eyes could have seen that something is missing. Wait a second. A creepy doll, two creepy basements filled with possessed antiques, a ghost that only kids can see and bond with, a couple of convincing back stories, check, check, check. What’s wrong with The Conjuring? Maybe that formulated feel one generally sees in a haunted house flick it has become a bit predictable. Nevertheless, the movie has flair thanks to Wan’s shots, angles, and transitions. It comes down to taste and feeling. It is scary and conveys something even rarer in horror films – a feeling of protecting family. -Rhounee Ron Kevin Frany

Estavillo! Sandali lang anak at may sasabihin pa ako! Pumirmi ka muna sa uupuan mo!” What the camote! HELP! Bigyan nyo ako ng chalk. Makakatulog na dapat ako
Despite the Circumstances
T
his may sound absurd but I am choosing the most umusual way to commit suicideand that is to live until I die. I have been hearing since I-don’t-know-when that when you face a problem, just think that other people’s problems might be a more difficult to handle. But I don’t like to keep that in my mind. Saying someone shouldn’t be sad because others may have it a lot worse is like saying someone shouldn’t be happy because others may have it a lot better... or vatleast for me. We have our own sets of obstacles. Ranging from a broken toy of a child to a death of a loved one of an adult. And just because it’s just a toy doesn’t mean it’s going to hurt less. We have no right to judge anyone based on their reactions to their problems. We are all in the labyrinth of suffering. Each of us knows how much pain we can bear before we can’t go on anymore. That is something only our own self can tell. Pain tolerance differ from one person to another. Clearly, we cannot save other people, but we can love them which is kind of the same thing. Life is a constant battle between ourselves and our problems. We have many options to choose from in order to get through that and even though we have this pain gauge that can be full anytime, giving up on life is not one of them. John Green, in his book Looking for Alaska, said “We need never be hopeless because we can never be irreparably broken.” And i guess we should agree on that. We have to be strong despite the circumstance. I know it’s easy to say but hard to do. But here is a piece of advice: be kind to everyone... including yourself. -Arol Joy Libao
Hold all the aces and hold all the cards

am feeling it again this time...that shivering feeling when I sense that something is off. Before I knew it, my body moved by itself and even my mind told me to do things I don’t actually sure I want to do. I don’t even know how and when it all started but it has always been like this. I knew I’m not the only one because when I walk down our school’s hallway, I can see it in other people’s eyes. They also have a set of strings attached to every part of their body and I can’t help but wonder why we all struggle to let the strings control us when we can actually cut them and live our life the way we want, the way it should be.Well, the truth is that I already know the answer. I’m just too coward to admit it: fear. Fear of being not good enough for everyone. Fear of being rejected by those who now control our strings. But I am now putting it all behind. I will now be aware of everything I will do. The next day, I woke up feeling like I have something to do and for the first time in my life, it didn’t seem like it was because of the strings. Then it finally hit me, and it hit me hard...society has been my puppeteer. I have let them attached the strings. I let them control me for so long and that was the dumbest decision I have ever made! For so many years, I am one of those people who compete for whoever has the best dress, the latest gadget, whoever has the best or worst day, the most inlove or broken-hearted or whoever has the most number of friends. Because of that, I became a puppet of the societyI let myself be manipulated well, not anymore. I am finally free. Free from the strings that has kept me from living my life the way I really want. The marks would still be here, of course. But thatwould not keep me from going forward. Now is the time. I will now hold the aces and hold all the cards of life. -Arol Joy Libao

Hey, men. It’s on my way on the school again. I have made all the assignments but one thing is I have missed - yung chalk! Yung chalk! Yung chalk! “Good morning class”, bati ni Bb. “Mr. Estavillo, yung pinadadala ko”. “Eto po ma’am”, proud kong tugon. “Maybe we can start the class by my kuwento. It’s all about my love life”, ani ma’am.

If I were a youth I will be the strength of our nation If I were a mighty youth I will be the future of the my generation

Youth, the pride of our nation Responsible for the society’s transformation Who signifies idealism and hope: Stand! For what you believe in Be proud and fit in-Amazing!

from Save rock and roll... page 17 Wearing that classic FOB sound, Hurley’s intimidating percussions and the ominous opening bars of Death Valley take the audience in an FOB universe where verses and spund meet in a connective confusion. This FOB archetype is an immortal piece to the album. Young Volcanoes ”In poisoned places, we are anti-venin; we’re the beginning of the end...” Fresh and venomous at the same time, indulge Young Volcanoes with its rock anthem that emerges from the hooks of the previous songs. Young Volcanoes is the climax, the critical point in the album that synthesizes Greek material in modern poetry through original music. Epic metaphors adorn the song like gladiator gears.

Rat A Tat “Remember me as I was not as I am...” Courtney Love’s raspy voice sure did made Rat A Tat a catchy song but not an anthem. Still, Stump put some justice to the song in some parts. Ignore Love’s sneering, drench in pure FOB. Save Rock and Roll “You are what you love not who loves you. In a world full of the word yes I’m here to scream no!...” A glorious duet with Elton John might sound like a joke for FOB fans but the song works out very professionally. The carrier is a very sultry way to end an artwork and Save Rock and Roll just gives the audience a whiff of simultaneous thirst and awe. Rise to Win
Coat of Arms
Jomar Silva Sports Editor
What makes one a champion?
T
he problem about most people is that they think they’re better than the players, they forget the importance of support.
R
ight around the middle of the semester, we celebrate this thing; this one event wherein we take pride on our physical capabilities and rejoices on the hopes of victory. We call this the intramurals. Other people take this much more serious than others, so serious that sometimes they forget the essence of sports and the meaning of sportsmanship. In this year’s Palarong Wesleyan we have adapted the theme “Rise to Win”. And it got me thinking; how far are you willing to go so that you could win? How far are people willing to give for this one event? Many people see the intramurals as a chance to showcase that their college is not just about academics. Proving which college is superior in the field of sports is sometimes crucial; because whoever wins in the games gets the bragging rights for the rest of the school year. And because of this some people aren’t afraid to go beyond the limitations and exceed all energies out of the athletes just to get the results they’ve been dying to have. Some people focus too much on the goal they fail to see the real prizes that was already theirs on the first place. Rising above others and being declared as champions may sound sweet and inviting. But the real success is rising above yourself and going beyond the limits of what you can do. Because if one is able to overcome all the obstacles that lies ahead of him; winner or not he is still a champion at heart.
I remember the ambiance around whenever there is an upcoming Manny Pacquiao. First there’s the anticipated announcement, then the long and gruesome wait and then there’s that one solemn moment where Filipinos around the world would keep in silence to give respect to our Philippine Flag. And on that moment, I feel nothing more but pride and honor; the thought of us coming together for one event is truly astounding. Then I remember a question that came up to newsstands before; whether Pacquiao would be considered as a hero or not. He didn’t risk his life to save the Filipinos. He didn’t write anything to give us a purpose. He didn’t fabricate an organization that would stand up for the oppressed. He didn’t do anything different than your normal day-today boxer. So why should we call him a hero? Well, just like an OFW and an Olympic athlete the very fact that he gave honor and pride to our country is reason enough to call him a hero. We shouldn’t measure the things they’ve done or the things they didn’t, because heroes are not subjected in that manner. And it is certainly not a secret that Pacquiao has proved that he is not like other fighters with the titles he has earned and triumphs he has overcame. Which brings me to another question in mind, where is Manny Pacquiao now? After a crushing defeat with Juan Manuel Marquez last December 2012, Pacquiao dimmed in the lime light; leaving people to wonder whether he is getting

The intramurals is probably one of the most awaited events in the university. It is a time wherein we set aside the textbooks and we put on our A game on. It is a time for champions to rise and represent their colleges in the different and perplex battlefields. But then it got me thinking… what do players get from participating in these games? As I watch coaches rally their players, I wonder with great uncertainty about the competence of these players. Are they suited to represent their college? What if they’re not good enough? Would it make their college happy? Being a player myself, I know the feeling of insecurity, the feeling of doubt especially towards your own capabilities. When I told people that I was going to try out for athletics they all thought it was a joke. They didn’t believe that I was actually going to go through with it. And that brings me to another question in mind. Why do people prosecute those they think are not fitted to play; if they didn’t even try in the first place? The problem about most people is that they think they’re better than the players, they for-
get the importance of support. Most often than not, people shout and dictate those who are trying to win for the sake of their college. People neglect the fact that these people with great modesty took the burden of representing their college and with all their power doing whatever it takes to win. Maybe a little support wouldn’t hurt? That’s all we ask from you guys. And yes, losing a part of life but that doesn’t mean it has to be the end. Give these people a break; it’s not an easy task you know; to beat all those athletics and rise above as winners. But that doesn’t mean we don’t try, because we do, we try so hard and we do what we can to get there. What makes one a champion is not his competence to win and neither is the probability of his success, but rather the support and encouragement his company gives him. No one must be a one man soldier. A champion would not be a champion if it wasn’t for the people who elected him there. The intramurals is not solely based on the determination of champions but also in the unity form during this time.
too old for the ring. But he gave hope once more to Filipinos when it was announce that he will be going against Brandon Rios in a non-title, welterweight match on November. The two holds different records in their professional careers. Rios being younger than Pacquiao is certainly a factor in the equation. However, we shouldn’t dismiss Pacquiao’s exceptional performance during his glory days. But after his back to back defeat with Bradley and Marquez the odds are in favor with Rios. Pacquiao must prove that he hasn’t lost his touch; owning up to his name and rising up to the challenge. But other things might hinder Pacquiao from victory. One of which many is his noticeable commitments towards other subjects which have been added great stressed to his training that became a factor for his recent loses. Pacquiao wouldn’t be considered as the underdog in the match but he has more to prove than Rios. This match would determine whether it’s time for retirement for the boxing champ. After disappointing loses of other Filipino boxers, the Philippines keeps an eye out and holds hope until the pride and glory is restored by none other than the man who showed the world we are not to be taken lightly with. Pacquiao has shared his exceptional moments in the ring and he certainly raise the bar up for younger Filipino boxers. The question now is whether it’s time for Pacman to finally throw in the towel. -Jomar Silva

After Gilas Pilipinas raisedthe bar from the recently concluded FIBA championship, the Philippines wait in anticipation for the game play of the Azkals this coming March in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in the Maldives. Even as the Azkals jumped 29 notches from the 170th world ranking to the 141st spot last August. They still need to own up with the great expectations brought out by
the victory of the Gilas Pilipinas. But even with no major competition in the near future, the Azkals steps forward in their friendly games with other countries. Considering they have a big cup to fill, the Azkals along with the goal of winning their matches; needs to bring out young hopeful football players in the country. But it seems they have to carry those youngsters out from the court and into the field. Promoting football in the Philippines is not an impossible task but the Azkals has to fasten their phase to accomplish this job. The Azkals might have lost in their friendly game with Indonesia but
they look forward on keeping their Philippine Peace Cup title on October at Bacolod City. The team also gears up especially at the final quarter of the 2013 for the Challenge Cup for preparation next March. If the Azkals wants to keep climbing up the ladder, they have to show continuous progress in front of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and stay on their radar. As the Gilas Pilipinas books a ticket to Spain, Azkals are likewise expected to get a ticket to the Asian Cup in Sydney in 2015. -Jomar Silva
The Philippines once again unite as they look after their dream team in the recently celebrated FIBA Asia cup tournament. The Philippines were given the hosting right for the FIBA championship because of the current situation in Lebanon. Sponsored by the Smart Communications and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), Gilas Pilipinas also known as Smart Gilas Pilipinas competed in the 2013 FIBA Asia tournament. The country watched in keenness every match. It certainly didn’t become smooth sailing for the team. Filipinos watched in frustration and eagerness as Gilas Pilipinas thrive in every obstacle. Along with the hardship of getting through every match the team was scrutinized ever since the team was announced. With Chot Reyes named captain of the ship or should I say the head coach for the Philippine dream team, people protested he was too cocky and narcissistic. Bashers also dissected the rest of the team; Marc Pingris, Marc Pingris , Jeffreig Allan Chan, Larry Fonacier , Daniel Norwood, Ranidel De Ocampo, June Mar Sotto Fajardo , LA Tenorio , Marcus Douthit , Gary O. David , Japeth Paul C. Aguilar, and Jimmy Alapag. Meanwhile, with its top player injured in battle against one of the top team in Asia, the Philippine national men’s basketball team bent over on its big fighting heart to reign. To crash the finals of the FIBA Asia Championship, Gilas Pilipinas reined over South Korea, 86-79 held last August 11 at Mall of Asia Arena. Gilas Pilipinas headed into battle against South Korea with memories of past defeats over their heads. It was the first time in a long while that the Philippines have beaten South Korea thus, achieving its goal of returning to global stage of basketball. They took the lead two minutes into the third and ended the quarter with a 65-56 edge over the South Korea. The Gilas Pilipinas opened with an 8-0 run behind Jason Castro that give them 47-39 lead with 6:02 in the third, then followed by 10, 63-53, with 1:21 left. But even if they weren’t the front liners, Gilas Pilipinas ticket to Spain was certainly achieved without any pain and a lot of frustration. And this has certainly raised the bar for other athletes in the Philippines. Now the Philippines looks forward to the voyage of the Gilas Pilipinas next year. -Jomar Silva/John Mark Paynor/Eligio Cruz, III

P
