Men’s fashion, according to Valentino isn’t complicated. But when it comes to pulling off a suit and making it look hot, it’s all about the details, the 70’s are back. Think two-piece suits with thinner ties that are fitted and tapered to the body. The trend now is for suits that have less fabric and fewer buttons. The idea here is that less is more. It’s more of a European look men are going for. “There’s a big movement toward healthy living now, and guys want to show that they look healthy,” Valentino said. “For that, the fitted, proportional suit is what they’re going for. It’s not about the loose, baggy clothing anymore.”If you’re looking for inspiration, the Al Capone look is hot this year, as men are dressing in suits reminiscent of mobsters, with polka-dot ties and sleek, slender looks. When pairing ties with a suit, Eloundou said thinking outside the box is definitely the way to go. It’s OK to mix paisley with polka dots, or wear a different colored jacket that contrasts with the pants, whether they’re solid or patterned. Accessories are a musthave, as they are used to bring out individual style, whether it’s the tie, shirt selection or pocket square. Eloundou’s tip: Be bold. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. A pocket square doesn’t necessarily have to match the shirt. The contrast shows off your colorful style and individuality.
Sex& Relationships
Oh, the joys of sex and relationships. Some men know what they want from awoman, while others are still trying to discover their boundaries. After surveying agroup of young men, we found out that men like their lady to be a lady on thestreet as well as in the bedroom, while some men prefer a lady in the streets and an uninhibited sex vixen behind closed doors. Physical Attraction The face is always a given when you meet someone, but this year it’s all about a woman’s height and the “ass.” Of course, attraction varies from person to person, but tall women with perfectly shaped derrières out numbered the face and boobs when it comes to physical attraction. Who knew? Relationship Needs Men want self-sufficient, secure and confident women. But just because you’reconfident doesn’t mean you need to be conservative. Men want a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to have a good time. If a guy is givingyou all of his time and attention, then there’s no need for jealousy. Yep, most men vow to cut the cord when a woman is considered to be the “jealous type.” Sexual Wants Nipples, nipples, nipples. Not yours, ladies, the men are all about foreplay, and it’s all about taking care of his nipples. Sucking, licking and even biting on a man’s nipples is a sure-fire way to relax and arouse him. But you don’t have to wait until you’re having sex to play with his nipples. Give his nipples a quick tug after he’s been working out, in the shower or first thing in the morning, and watch his facelight up as if his favorite sports team has just won a game.
A MAN’S DRINK
The Manhattan. Men have been opting for the Manhattan since 1870. History suggests that the drink originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the early 1870s. It was invented by Dr. Iain Marshall for a banquet hosted by Jennie Jerome (also known as Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill's mother) in honor of the presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The Manhattan is a popular and classic whiskey and sweet vermouth cocktail. When properly built, the Manhattan is the only cocktail that can slug it out toe-to-toe with the martini. It's bold and fortifying, yet as relaxing as a deep massage, and gents can’t seem to get enough of them. Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils but don't drop it in. 3/4 oz sweet vermouth 2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey 1 dash Angostura® bitters 1 maraschino cherry 1 twist orange peel GentlemensGuideOC.com 7

Your go-to may be a lightweight sports coat paired with khaki pants. Khaki pants are a good choice because they are versatile. Another idea is to try a nice pair of rustic, dark jeans. Just be sure not to wear your pair with ripped holes. Layering is another important skill to have since the temperatures fluctuate rapidly. Try a white or light-colored, tight-fitting button down shirt. Finish the look off with desert boots in a light color. If you think the look is too formal for the event, use your discretion and wear a deconstructed cotton jacket or Harrington coat. Remember, you want to make a good impression so it’s better to be safer than sorry.
Casual If you’re grabbing lunch or heading to a show, you want to opt for an outfit that is functional yet fashionable. It makes no sense to wear a full blown tuxedo, but at the same time you do not want to look like you just rolled out of bed in any old T-shirt. For the laidback gentleman, a suit might be a bit over dressy for your date. Instead, try exchanging your suit jacket for a fitted cardigan and play with separates that will show your bold style. This is an easy, put-together look that anyone can pull off for a classy feel. Since it’s spring and summer, of course, mixing separates in complementary color hues fits perfectly. GentlemensGuideOC.com 13
Fashionable Date If you’ve booked reservations at the hottest restaurant that takes a 3-months advanced notice, you’re going to want to wear something appropriate. Because this is definitely an important night with an important person, dress the part! Wear a suit but skip the traditional suit accessories like a belt and tie. A suit made of gray tweed, khaki cotton, or brown hopsack can be the perfect fabrics to choose from. For a touch of unique flair, add a striped shirt or colored shirt and pair it with brown or taupe loafers. Since it is the spring and summer seasons, patterns are always a good idea.
Just don’t go crazy and decide to show off your intense artistic flair. Choose a simple pattern such as thin stripes or small polka dots. After all, you want your personality to shine first off. Finish the look off with dark brown leather lace up shoes or even a pointed-toe shoe. The possibilities are limitless, but remember that your date will be impressed with your shoes, so don’t skimp out on choosing a fashionable, sturdy pair! Oxford-anything will become your best friend, Oxford pants and shirts especially. 14 GentlemensGuideOC.com
ultimate Formal event So you’re going to a formal event with a date? Lucky you! Don’t forget that dressing accordingly is one of the biggest things that will stand out that night. Sometimes, the formal event might be easier to dress for than a casual event. Your go-to will be a dark indigo or navy suit, a man’s wardrobe staple. Regardless of season, a dark blue color will be classy all year around. Ditch your black suit, as it is way too stiff and boring for the occasion. Pair it with a closed front French cuff white dress shirt to match and a classy black bow tie. If you’re feeling daring, you might even pair the suit with a blue shirt instead. Don’t forget that accessories play a big role in any outfit too. A nice pocket square can add interest to your entire outfit without having to change your entire look. A wristwatch can add that final touch of class that ties your entire outfit together.
It doesn’t matter if you’re headed to see the newest film to hit the box office or will be having a fancy Italian dinner, how you dress is an important aspect that your date will appreciate in the long run. A man who pays attention to the small details like his shoes will demonstrate that they can pay attention to details in a relationships and so on. However, dressing for a date does not have to be stressful. Take these tips into consideration to snag that second and even third date! n GentlemensGuideOC.com 15

A lot of regulars come through their doors and enjoy the sports on the Television but welcomes all outsiders to come try their craft beers. Only open Friday- Sunday, it is definitely good to come, have a couple of brews and continue on with your day.

Great Park Stadium:
Irvine’s Metropolitan
Oasis By Jerry Shumway

fter years of deliberation on how to appropriately use the land left behind by the United States Marines in 1999, the city of Irvine and Orange County have come to an agreement on how to utilize the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro land.

Orange County Great Park
After the United States Marines left the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Irvine, California conversations began discussing what would take over that historic land and bring in revenue to the city of Irvine while also preserving the beauty of the area. It was during these conversations that the Orange County Great Park was born. Covering approximately 1,300 acres north of the 5 and 405 freeway junction in the foothills, this park will be an arts and sports recreational hub that includes 80 fields for various sports such as soccer, baseball, basketball, rugby, lacrosse and even

cricket. Alongside these fields will be the 24 tennis courts, five volleyball courts, three “championship” stadiums and a playground. The city of Irvine and its public-private partner, Five Point Communities, hope to create a “metropolitan oasis” in Irvine that will combine the glorious wilderness areas with museums, shops and 9,500 new homes that will cover land that is three times the size of San Diego’s Balboa Park. This oasis will span 713 acres of parkland and 194 acres for the sports complex that will be the new permanent home to the Orange County Soccer Club. Irvine Councilwoman, Christina Shea said, “The sports complex will be the anchor of what promises to be the heart of Orange County.” The entirety of the sports park will be completed by the fall of 2019.
Home of the Orange County Soccer Club
Orange County Soccer Club went through a complete revamping of their brand this past offseason with a new ownership, name, home field and colors as well as new jerseys. The 23-member squad, formerly known as the Orange County Blues is looking forward to moving into their new home stadium, one of the many athletic fields in Irvine’s Orange County Great Park. Their new stadium will feature natural turf and will be able to house up to 5,000 fans to watch Orange County SC compete in the 30-team United Soccer

League. The United Soccer League is a Division II professional league—one level under Major League Soccer. Orange County SC has gained popularity in the area after their recent success and playing their home games at Anteater Stadium in Irvine in past season. Jame Keston, the chief investment officer of LARO Properties in Los Angeles, purchased the club last year after the Orange County Blues reached back-to-back Western Conference semifinals in 2015 and 2016 and winning the conference two years ago. This success allowed the Orange County SC to establish a partnership with 2018 MLS expansion club, Los Angeles Football Club. This partnership will allow the Division I professional club to send players up and down between LAFC and OCSC. This project, though it will takes years and many millions of dollars to complete, will create a family-friendly hub of entertainment, events and activities that will serve the community for many generations to come.

Shohei Ohtani: The Next Baseball Legend By Jamie Chau
40 GentlemensGuideOC.com
H
e’s Japan’s Babe Ruth. He’s hot news in the baseball industry. And he’s just joined the Angels. Baseball legends are hard to come by, but Shohei Ohtani is definitely hot news in the baseball community right now. He is currently a pitcher and a designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels, but has also played for The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. As a jack of all trades, Ohtani is racking up a lot of attention and successes for the Angels.
Success At A Young Age Shohei Ohtani was born on July 5, 1994, and his career and interest in baseball stretches back to when he was at a young age. He was always known as a “yakyu shonen”, or a kid who’s life pretty much revolves around baseball. His father was a corporate league baseball player who encouraged Shohei to engage in the sport. He immediately showed promising talent and invested in it, and by the time he was
eight-years-old, he was a regular member of the weekend little league. Following this success, Ohtani recorded seventeen out of eighteen hits during a six-inning regional championship game in seventh grade, and in high school, his skills became even more obvious. At Hanamaki Higashi High School, he became notable for being able to throw at 99 mph. Having made the choice to play professionally right after he graduated high school, Ohtani was only eighteen when he began to play professionally. Even then, he had expressed interest in playing for MLB. He was, however, scouted by the The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and ultimately spent some time playing for them. In his time with the Fighters, Ohtani played as a right fielder. He was the second to be drafted out of high school as a Nippon Pro Baseball Rookie, after Kikuo Tokunaga.

Ohtani in the Angels Ohtani officially joined the Angels in 2018, but before he did, he had a line of professional baseball teams asking for him, including the Mariners, Rangers, Dodgers, Padres, Cubs and Giants. He is under team control for a minimum of six years, which is regular protocol for all prospects, and has received a $2.315 million signing bonus. Upon joining the Angels, Ohtani has been simply thriving. In fact, his skills are being compared to
42 GentlemensGuideOC.com
the legendary Babe Ruth’s. It seems as if he might be neck to neck, or even better, than Ruth. His versatile skills in both hitting and pitching is the aspect that many are paying the most attention on. Being able to accomplish one of these skills well is a feat in itself, but mastering two is truly something to gawk at. He is very well respected for his skills in However, Ohtani is extremely respectable and modest, and has said in a post from The Angels, "I'm honored to be compared to Babe Ruth,
but in no way do I think I'm at his level. I think today actually is the real starting point for me, and I just want to get as close to him as possible." The Angels also have a plan as to implementing him to their routine in a way that would be most beneficial to both Ohtani the entire team. They are currently considering a six-man rotation, which is extremely similar to the team structure Ohtani has grown up with in Japan. This tactic will make Ohtani’s transition into his new surroundings easier, and it will also help lighten up the load of other members of the Angels who have been struggling with
injuries in recent years. The Angels are also considering Ohtani as a part-time designated hitter. Ohtani is bringing glory to the Angels, his home country, and most importantly, himself. His passion in baseball is tremendous, and it has helped him get extremely far in the world of baseball. He started out strong, even as a child, and is now one of the most accomplished rookies anyone has seen in a long time. With his experience with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and now his starting legacy with the Angels, Ohtani is truly living up to the title of “yaku shonen. n

Tiger Woods: A Golf Legend By Jamie Chau
Y
ou don’t have to be a golf -or even a sports fan- to know who Tiger Woods is. Embedded in history as one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, Woods is one of the best golfers ever. Born on December 30, 1975, Eldrick Tont Woods is the son of Earl and Kultida Woods, and is of African American and Asian heritage. Woods was born in Cypress, California, but grew up in the southern part of Orange County. His name was derived from the initials of his parents (E and K), and his nickname, Tiger, was coined in honor of his father’s friend. But no professional athlete just popped out and became successful. Like many others, Woods dedicated much of his time to get to where his is today and overcame many personal and athletic challenges on the way. 46 GentlemensGuideOC.com
The Start of the Legend
When Woods was three, he had established that he was an excellent golfer. Since his father was part of the military, he had access to the Navy golf course located behind the Joint Forces Training Base. Comedian Bob Hope had played against him on The Mike Douglas Show, and to his astonishment, three-year-old Woods had shot a 48 over nine holes. Later, at age eight, he went on to win at the Junior World Golf Championships, which then lead to four more consecutive ones, and a total of six wins. From there, he continued on to accomplish various other successes. When it came time for him to go to college,
GentlemensGuideOC.com 47
there were many that were out to recruit him. In the end, however, Woods settled with Stanford University, champions of the 1994 NCAA. At Stanford, he was under a golf scholarship and won at the 40th Annual William H. Tucker Invitational. After two years of college, however, he left to pursue a professional golf career, and then left California. In addition to his golfing accomplishments, Woods is also the Founder and CEO of a charity foundation called TGR.
Getting Tangled In Affairs
Throughout the years, Woods often had rumors and stories circulating regarding his affairs and love life. In 2003, Woods had married Elin Nordegren, who he had a daughter and a son with. The rumors first surfaced in 2009, when National Enquirer published a story regarding a alleged affair Woods was having with nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel, although both sides denied it. Later, US Weekly reported on a mistress and a voicemail that Woods had seemingly left for her. Following this, over a dozen woman claimed to have had an affair with Woods, which lead him to lose several business partnerships. Woods returned in 2010 to apologize for his actions, and then later divorced Nordegren in August. Coming Back After Physical Injuries Throughout the years, Woods’s career was altered several times due to physical injury- once for his knee, the second time due to back surgery. In 2009, Woods took a break from golf before returning in April 2010 with a weakened game. It was a disappointing comeback, and for sever-
48 GentlemensGuideOC.com
al years after, his performance fluctuated. In 2017, he was arrested for drunk driving. Later that year, he plead guilty for reckless driving and entered a program specified for first-time offenders to prevent from making further mistakes. In early 2018, he pulled himself together and tied second place at the Valspar Championship, bringing stirring hope from his fans and reviving career. As a highly respected athlete and golfer, Tiger Woods had left his mark early in his life. Throughout his career, he faced his ups and downs but has ultimately been able to overcome all of them. Regardless of the scandals he has gotten caught up in within the past years, he is still an extremely talented golfer who has been an inspiration to many, and his comeback has been great news to his fans. n

he first thing that will come to mind when you hear the name Meghan Markle is probably that she is Prince Harry’s fiancee. However, Markle has done much more in her life than saying yes to Prince Harry. So, who exactly is Meghan Markle?
T
Who is Meghan Markle?
Markle was born on August 4, 1981 in Los Angeles and is biracial. Her mother is African American and her father is Dutch Irish. Her parents are divorced, but they remain a close family. Meghan is actually her middle and stage name. The actress’ full name is Rachel Meghan Markle. She graduated from Northwestern University and has a degree in theatre and international affairs. Although majority of her life was spent in Los Angeles, she moved to Canada, where she made herself at home while filming Suits in Toronto.
More Than Just An Actress
Although Markle was the most Googled actress of 2016, getting a job as an actress isn’t easy, and Markle is no stranger to the struggles. To support herself, she has 80 GentlemensGuideOC.com
engaged in various side jobs, including wedding calligraphy and working as a briefcase model on the game show Deal or No Deal. Today, Markle is well known for her role as Rachel Zane on Suits, which she has maintained since 2011. However, before she hit the big screen, she took on many other smaller roles in movies and shows like CSI: Miami, 90210, and Remember Me. In addition to being an actress, Markle ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig and has launched a clothing line with Canadian clothing company Reitmans. She is also extremely active in her humanitarian activities, where she has gone to Rwanda as a Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada and has advocated for women’s rights, gender equality, and modern day slavery. With so much on her plate, Markle is often flying around the world, trying to attend to her duties as a humanitarian and as an actress. She has noted that her charity work is every bit as significant as her celebrity commitments.
Being American and Biracial
However, Prince Harry actually won’t be Markle’s first marriage- she was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson, whom she divorced in 2013. In addition, although Markle is getting married into the royal family, she won’t be a princess. Instead, she will be a royal duchess and titled as Her Royal Highness. Regardless, both the queen and Markle’s parents have blessed the couple, and Prince Harry had expressed that his mother, Princess Diana, would’ve been delighted to hear the news. Since Markle is marrying into the royal family, parts of her life that will change drastically. Not only will she have to retire from acting, but she will also have to get used to being surrounded by guards at all times, undergo safety training, and alter her wardrobe to a more conservative style.
Marrying Into A Royal Family
The wedding is scheduled to be in the spring of 2018, and the couple will be living on the Kensington Palace grounds in Nottingham Cottage. Markle has already left her Toronto home for her new one in the United Kingdom. n
Markle has spoken openly about her struggles of being biracial, and has even written an essay regarding this matter. Her mixed race had made it difficult for her to land a steady job as an actress, and it has also caused some issues regarding the public’s view on her relationship with Prince Harry. As the first ever American and biracial person to marry into the royal family, Markle is enduring a lot of sexist and racist comments from the media. They have been so intense that Prince Harry himself has spoken up against them. In addition, in regards of her American citizenship, Markle will have to go through several steps before she is officially a British citizen. These steps include applying for a family visa and taking a British citizenship test. Prince Harry proposed to Markle on a casual night in with a ring that included gems from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection while they were roasting chicken. The two have been together for approximately a year and a half. Markle met Prince Harry on a blind date in July 2016, but kept quiet about their relationship for about six months.

Tips For An Amazing First Date By Jamie Chau
ongratulations, you finally landed that first date! As you prepare for it, you might start feeling a little nervous, but that’s perfectly reasonable you want to impress your date and you want there to be future dates. Before you get too ahead of the game however, you have to make sure that everything goes smoothly your first time. And it’s tough you have to choose the right outfit, make sure you don’t seem too over the top, and be aware of what you’re saying. To help you out, here are some tips to really stun and lock in a second date.
C
Dress To Impress
Sure, often times, judging someone by their looks can be considered shallow. But let’s 82 GentlemensGuideOC.com
be honest- your appearance is the first thing people consider when they see you, so it’s crucial that you physically present yourself the best way possible. First off, make sure your attire fits the atmosphere of your first date. If you are going to a fancy restaurant, you really don’t want to be caught dead in baggy sweatpants and a raggy old t-shirt. On the flip side, if you are grabbing sandwiches at a nearby corner store, you probably don’t want to walk in dressed in a suit either - you will make her (and everyone around you) feel underdressed and you will stick out like a sore thumb. It’s not just your clothing that you should be mindful of, though. Appearance goes further than what you wear. You want to be clean! Before you meet with your date, you should shower,
“Let her talk about herself, and let her ask about you.” shave (or at least clean up your facial hair), and of course brush your teeth. It’s a simple basic thing, really, but it will make a huge difference in your appearance.
Have A Plan For The Date
Here’s another important tip - have a plan. Sure, spontaneous dates are fun, but you are better off saving that for the future, when you are more comfortable with each other. A good, fool-proof plan would be the classic meal and activity. Talking over food is a great way to get to know someone, and having an activity (which can be as simple as taking a walk) can further boost your conversation and date overall. Besides, having a plan lets her know that you’re well prepared, and that’s always a good sign. If you want to get creative with your plan, you can tell her the most basic details and keep the rest a surprise. Give her clues without revealing what you will be doing or where you will be going, but tell her just enough so that she can be prepared. The most important thing is to let her know how to dress - you don’t want her wearing five
inch heels when you want to take her hiking. And make sure you’re on time! It looks embarrassing on your part to set up a date but be late for it.
Don’t Be A Narcissist
Make sure you are not just talking about yourself! No one - including your date wants to know the nitty gritty details of every work related problem or situation. It really won’t matter how polite you are or how nice you look if you drone on and on about the same topic. The only thing you will achieve from this is boring her and losing the chance for a second date. Instead, make sure you ask questions about her.
GentlemensGuideOC.com 83
Let her talk about herself, and let her ask about you. If you are worried about not being able to keep the conversation going, make up a list of things to talk about ahead of time. Asking her about her hobbies, favorite books and movies, and goals are good topics to start with. Here’s the catch though - listen to her answers. It’s important that you’re keeping the conversation going with engaging topics, but if you zoned out, you will seem rude. Otherwise, keeping the conversation a two-way road will make her inclined to know more about you, and pretty soon you will have a solid conversation in your hands.
Keeping Your Finances In Check Money is a tricky one, but there are ways to show that you know how to utilize your finances. For your first date, you don’t want to seem cheap, but you probably don’t want to be splurging on a single dish either. So how do you attain the best of both worlds? Well, take this example. Asking your date out to lunch at a nice but affordable coffee shop is being economical. However, asking her out on a dinner date at a five-star restaurant but claiming 84 GentlemensGuideOC.com
that she can’t order the lobster she really wants is being cheap. If you agreed on going to a five-star restaurant, you should be aware of the prices. Figuring out who’s paying for dinner is also a way for her to gauge your spending habits. Of course, offer to pay when the meal is over, but if she strongly insists on paying, let her, or come to a compromise (like splitting the
bill). Pushing to pay the bill can make you seem like you’re trying to prove yourself or that you’re flaunting your finances. There’s really a fine line between that, and it’s up to you to find the balance. It’s the end of the date, you made it! Just before the two of you part ways, there’s a few more steps for you to take to really
move to do so or is showing surefire signs, definitely go for it! And after you leave, make sure you follow up. You may have heard myths about waiting three days before texting her back, but don’t believe them. No one wants to wait three days to hear back from someone. Call her the next day, or text her when you get home. It ensures that you both had a great time, and she will know that you’re not flaky.
make it a perfect date. The first is the kiss goodbye. Do you kiss her on the cheek, or do you go in for a full on smooch? You are probably better off with a kiss on the cheek. A full on kiss on your first date might make you seem like you are coming on too strong, and it has the danger of scaring her away. Besides, if your date goes well, a kiss on the cheek can actually make her more excited for the second date, because she will be looking forward to that first kiss. This is not to say, however, that you should never go for a kiss. If she is making the
There you are - some solid bits and pieces that will come together to make your first date as amazing as possible. Really though, don’t stress it. Your first date should be fun, flirty, and memorable! You want to be able to look back on it and remember it as a day where you and your date both enjoyed yourselves, not as one where you were so nervous that you could barely breathe. Just make sure that you treat her well, relax, and make the most out of it! There can only be one first date, after all. n
