2021/2022
Presidentâs New Year 2022 letter Dear LISC friends What a strange time we live in, because of the Covid only a few personal contacts are possible. Fortunately the Europa Forum still took place in Europe (Thessaloniki, Greece). During this Forum I was finally able to hand over the award that he more than deserved to our past President Spyros. În a difficult period he led LISC as you would expect from a leader. Unfortunately, the meeting we planned with LISC friends from Europe was not such a success, unfortunately only six members were present. Now, that we are on the eve of 2022 and we still do not know where we stand and whether the International Convention in Montreal will take place. It is also difficult to make further plans. Early next month we will have another Îoard meeting, in which we will discuss this subject in detail. Perhaps this time also has an advantage because there are few other things we can do, it might be the right time to take a closer look at the stamp collection. Micha Gelber still has stamps for sale that can be ordered from him: (m.gelber@kpnmail.nl). Because we also want to put the membership administration in order this year, I would like from all Chapters to request our Secretary Evan Wm Jones: (E.W.M.J@icloud.com) to specify who is the Chairman and the Secretary of the chapter. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New year 2022, but above all stay healthy! PCC/PMJF PETER BRANDENBURG LISC President 2021-2022

JUNE 24-28, 2022 PALAIS DES CONGRĂS DE MONTRĂAL Weâre excited for you to join us in beautiful MontrĂ©al at LCICon 2022 with plenary sessions, service activities, entertainment and much more. During a typical year the LCI conservatively estimates that 15,000 to 18,000 delegates attend their annual gathering. They are however, forecasting approximately 10,000 delegates for 2022 due to the realities of postpandemic travel. But we might be in for a surprise - the 2020 Convention was cancelled, and the 2021 edition was 100% virtual. The Lions members love to meet, so they might arrive in droves. Or prides. You get the idea. The event will be headquartered at the âLe Centre Sheraton MontrĂ©al Hotelâ. But given the sheer volume of attendees, hotels across the city will likely be at full capacity. Some meeting will be at the âPalais des CongrĂšs de MontrĂ©alâ and some will be held at the International Convention at the âBell Centreâ. With more than 30,000 room nights expected for the cityâs hotels, the event is expected to generate $16 million in tourism spending to MontrĂ©alâs economy!

Peter G. Keller - LISC Founder At 1951, during the 34th Lions International Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the Lions International Stamp Club (LISC) was officially chartered. Peter Keller who founded the Lions International Stamp Club and served as its Secretary for more than twenty years, authored also a regular stamp collecting column in the LION Magazine calling stamp collecting âThe King of Hobbies and the Hobby of Kingsâ. Within a year the LISC had members from five countries, collecting and trading rare or interesting stamps of all kinds. Since 1940 countries such as Cuba, Philippines and Nicaragua have issued commemorative stamps featuring the Lions Clubs International emblem and past International Presidents like Finis Davis of Louisville - Kentucky who served from 1960 - 1961 and Clarence Sturm from Manawa Wisconsin who served from 1959-60. As with anything that Lions are involved in, fun and fellowship leads to Service! The LISC founder Peter G. Keller who born in New York, October 13, 1894 was a stamp dealer and director of the (ASDA) American Stamp Dealers Association. Termed the âModern Eraâ of stamp dealing in America the years after November 1947, saw the national Organization for stamp dealers move into a bright new period with the appointment that month of Peter G. Keller as its Executive Secretary. Keller was the American Stamp Dealers Associationâs (ASDA) immediate past President and his efficiency and standards in that office, made him the logical candidate for this new position.
The incoming president of ASDA Edson J. Fifield, remarked, âIt is a great good fortune that our society of stamp dealers can attract to itself men of the character of Peter G. Keller.â The position, as was only part-time and was operated out of Mr. Kellerâs stamp business office, on Nassau Street in New York City. But Keller soon established a permanent headquarters of the Association, an operation that continues today and in August 1954, opened an official office at 116 Nassau Street. Meanwhile, Keller established 14 ASDA local chapters around the country including major ASDA clubs in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia, Kansas City and Miami. His wife Helen Van Zilen Keller (married 1950) took an active role. After Peter retired in 1966, he and Helen continued to support the Organization. Further, as Bill Smith founding President of the Pin club of Virginia said: âStamps and pins is a hobby thatâs entertaining and a celebration of Lions dedication to Serviceâ. Lion Peter served two years as Club president, also as zone Chairman and deputy District Governor, also earned the Lions International Extention Award and by U.S.A and Canadian Philatelic Organizations. Peter died in his house Tappan, New York, September 15, 1972. The âPhilatelistâ magazine editor, Stamp dealers and LISC members expressed sympathy to mrs Helen Keller. An account of Lion Peterâs passing was also carried in Stamps. PCC/PMJF SPYROS SEREMIDIS LISC IPP

That Forum was the fourth organized by the M.D 117 GreeceÂCyprus (1968, 1990, 2003 and 2021). The Mayor of the city of Thessaloniki mr. Constantinos Zervas and the Forum President PID George Papas welcomed more than 650 of LCI oïŹcers, Directors, Governors, Lions, LEO members and friends from Greece and Europe. The Host Committee was also proud and honored by the virtual participation of our International President Douglas X. Alexander, Dr.JungÂYul Choi LCIF Chairperson and Brian Sheehan first Vice President, as well as the in person participation of the past International Presidents Gudrun Yngvadottir, Pino Grimaldi and Eberhard Wirfs. The Forum Headquarters were housed in the Covid free  5 stars "Grand Palace Hotel". The Opening and the Closing Ceremonies as well as Welcome Reception held at the very impressive âThessaloniki Concert Hallâ and the Thomas Kuti Music Competition at âThessaloniki State Conservatoryâ a clas sic building constructed in 1914. Further the Gala Dinner, Forumâs sessions, workshops, Seminars and social events were enthusiastically attended by the participants at Grand Palace Hotelâs halls. In the Hotel, had been also organized a few Lionic informative booths for the delegations. During the three day duration of the Forum 11 amendments and other main subjects were presented and discussed for approval by Forum Council, many interesting speeches and important Seminars were also held by distinguished Lion oïŹcers, while a few of city promenades and short distance excursions enjoyed by the interested persons. Among the Forum events also was Âas usual the event of the LISC Boardâs Presidency annual delivery, which took place at the âSpeakerâs Cornerâ Îżf the Grand Palace Hotel on Friday noon, October 8, 2021. During that event, the wellÂknown beautiful video concerning the diachronic route of the LISC organization was shown, while relevant brochures and Conventionâs stamps and pins were distributed. The video, was the same as had been presented during the 103rd virtual Montreal Convention 2021. Later PCC Spyros Seremidis LISC President 2020Â2021 thanked for the help and the support he had during his presidency from the Board and handed over the traditional presidential chain to his friend PCC and Europa Forumâs Accountant Peter Brandenburg who will serve as 2021Â2022 LISC President, wishing him a dynamic and productive new year for the sake of the longÂlife history of the Lions International Stamp Club. Shortly afterwards the new President Peter presented to the im. Past President Spyros, a honorary plaque in recognition of his successful leadership and oïŹered service for LISC. In conclusion, we could consider that Thessaloniki Europa Forum was very successful in presentations and a turning point for our future, approaching the diachronic ideological part of our international Organization and the broad horizons of Lions Service activities. The next 67th Europa Forum will take place at the capital of Croatia (Zagreb). PCC/PMJF SPYROS SEREMIDIS LISC IPP
