THE PALACE THEATRE GeorgetownPalace.com Georgetown Palace Theatre offers a wide variety of professional stage performances that embrace the talents of local amateur performers who compete for roles through open auditions. Built in 1925, a 1936 remodeling distinguished the Palace as the only building of the Art Deco period found in Georgetown. In addition to main stage shows, the Palace has a heavy focus on theatrical education. The Children’s Summer Workshop trains over 600 children each summer. The Doug Smith Performance Center opened in 2020. The new center will allow the nonprofit theater’s education program to expand its programming for children. GEORGETOWN ART CENTER GeorgetownArtCenterTX.org Georgetown Art Works and the City of Georgetown have partnered to transform Fire Station One in historic downtown Georgetown into the Georgetown Art Center. The art center includes a spacious gallery and an inspiration studio for classes.
FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS GtownFestival.org Festival of the Arts is a four-day festival in early June that highlights specific composers through symposia on the composers, chamber concerts, film showings, and large ensemble concerts. The festival includes a free Saturday night concert in San Gabriel Park that ends in a fireworks show. GEORGETOWN FILM FESTIVAL GTXFilm.org This weekend-long event consists of screenings of feature and short independent films, a conference, and pitch competition. TEXAS BACH FESTIVAL TexasBachFestival.org The organization offers innovative programs and projects dedicated to “Bringing Bach to Life” that includes a series of concerts in late June.
SUMMER MUSIC SERIES In June, July, and August, you can set your chairs on the Courthouse lawn and enjoy a free concert on Friday nights from 6:30–8:30 pm.
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY Sarofim School of Fine Arts Southwestern.edu/Sarofim Each year, a diverse roster of musicians, actors, artists, and art historians perform, lecture, and present their work. Many events are open to the public and free of charge. GEORGETOWN SCULPTURE TOUR Arts.Georgetown.org/Art/Sculpture-Tour Pieces are on loan from the artists for this rotating exhibit located in San Gabriel Park, downtown along Main Street between 7th and 8th Streets, and at the Georgetown Public Library.
