Georgetown Visitation Profile 2021-2022 MISSION STATEMENT Georgetown Visitation, founded in 1799, is a college preparatory school rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition, committed to educating young women from diverse backgrounds. We are a faith-centered community dedicated to educational excellence and enriched by co-curricular and service programs. Our mission is to empower our students to meet the demands and challenges of today’s rapidly changing and morally complex world. We guide our students to become self-reliant, intellectually mature, and morally responsible women of faith, vision, and purpose.
STUDENT BODY Georgetown Visitation enrolls 510 young women in grades 9–12 who live in the District of Columbia (22% of students), suburban Maryland (37% of students) and Virginia (41% of students). Approximately 36% of the student body receives financial aid; currently the school awards over $2.5 million in aid annually. There are 130 students in the Class of 2022.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM The academic program focuses on a strong foundation in English, mathematics, science, history, religion, and foreign language. Beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year, Visitation moved to a trimester model. Students have access to a range of electives, including Advanced Placement and honors courses, advanced study through the Bridge Program with Georgetown University, and courses offered through One Schoolhouse. The caliber of the colleges and universities Georgetown Visitation graduates attend is a testament to how well prepared our students are.
RANK Due to the strength and rigor of our curriculum, we do not assign class rank. A cumulative grade point average is computed at the end of each year and is derived from final grades of coursework taken only at Georgetown Visitation. All subjects except Chorus, Orchestra, P.E., and summer school courses are included in the GPA. Honors and AP courses are weighted with an additional .7 in the calculation of the grade point average. Calculus is weighted with an additional .35. Letter grades are unweighted.
HONOR CODE/DISCLOSURE POLICY Students at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School are governed by an Honor Code that encourages an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust in our community. As young women bound by a code of conduct, all students are expected to answer all college application questions truthfully. In accordance with NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practices in College Admissions, we agree to report any significant changes in

RESPONSE TO COVID-19 In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the guidance of the District of Columbia Office of Public Health, Georgetown Visitation transitioned on March 17, 2020 to distance learning with no loss in academic continuity. Course objectives were met, and summative assessments were assigned in lieu of final examinations. Student performance continued to be graded on the school’s grading scale, and final transcript grades reflect the average of three trimesters of coursework. Ninety-eight percent of students enrolled in AP courses took the AP exam. A dozen co-curricular activities continued after distance learning began. Moderators and students used a variety of media to allow participation including virtual meetings and email communication. Students found creative ways to pursue the missions of their clubs and executed scheduled events virtually. The 2020-2021 school year began virtually and then transitioned to a hybrid model in October. Co-curricular time was built into the daily schedule, and all students had the opportunity to participate in over 35 clubs and activities of their choice. Due to the virtual and hybrid schedule, class time during the 2020-2021 school year was significantly reduced. As a result, Advanced Placement courses were severely impacted by shorter class periods. Students are learning in person for the 2021-2022 school year.
