In 1998, the school gymnasium, which had been built during the Great Depression, was renovated into the Catharine E. Nolan Performing Arts Center. Enlarged to accommodate a theater and dance studio, the building was named for “Kitty” Nolan ’29, a longtime friend of Visitation who served as the Executive Secretary of the Alumnae Association for 15 years (1949 64). Groundbreaking took place in April 1997, and it was dedicated on October 4, 1998, at a well attended kick off event and picnic to celebrate the school and Monastery’s bicentennial.

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award winning Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold out audiences of all ages around the world
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other's lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also to appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
Welcome to Nolan! Thank you for joining us and supporting the arts at Georgetown Visitation We are so excited to have a live audience for this show The production team and cast & crew have worked tirelessly to present this amazing performance of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical
One of Roald Dahl’s 19 children's books, Matilda reminds us what it is like to be a kid The story reminds us to be friendly, loving, curious, and brave As adults, we are concerned with work, family, the household; adult things. But when was the last time you played on a swing, ran through the leaves, rolled down a hill, ate an entire chocolate cake, or tried something new? “ Why? Why?” Just because! Take a little time to be a kid and reclaim the magic of being a kid For today’s kids, never lose the magic. It is that magic that allows you to do great and be great!
The Visitation Performing Arts Department has continued to persevere and strive for excellence The pandemic has allowed us to find new and creative ways to keep the arts alive while keeping our performers and audience safe from streamed concerts and stage productions to a motion picture Our students are still designing and building the sets, making props and costumes, creating hairstyles, and running the sound and projections with increased energy and creativity because we have you: our live audience! We are proud to incorporate ASL interpreters for this and future productions We will continue to strive to create new and inclusive arts experiences for our students and audiences.
On behalf of the entire cast & crew, a special “thank you” to the entire Visitation community Thank you to the GVPA and the many parents who have graciously donated items and their time. Thank you to Lisette, Maurya, Mikyoung, and Ginnie for your support and creativity You are the best! Thank you to School Days Productions for their creativity and impeccable professionalism.
