PROGRAMS USED// AUTOCAD, REVITT TYPE// COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN, RENDERING ASSIGNMENT + CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS EXISTING DESIGN, BY GLEN MURCUTT This project was simply to develop strong skills in Revit. This was an existing design so I was able to work from architectural plans for the measurements, whilst also looking for photos and information on the internet to determine the correct materials and overall look of the house.

PROGRAMS USED// AUTOCAD, SKETCHUP PRO, PODIUM LIGHTING TYPE// STUDIO PROJECT I worked from an existing floo plan of a high rise building in Chicago, accommodating and designing to the needs of an elderly couple to satisfy their specifications and taste. Challenges I faced were coming up with solutions to create enough space to ensure their specifications were met and exceeded whilst making sure the design complied with all building codes.

Reception
Style & Layout
The building has an industrial style feel to it with the mix of brick, concrete, wood and clean smooth lines. Although, the textures and layout give contrast with a more organic feel which relates back to the inspiration of Mother Nature and how we can learn from natural life cycles and the beauty of the outdoor environment. Hence the raw bamboo wall, the placement of the circular display shelving and the diversity of how products are being displayed (iMAC station/ circular vertical shelves/ box shelving) all creating a stimulating environment to work and design in.
The sliding glass doors allows transparency through to the display room to capture guests attention and to direct people to move through to this space.

CASSELLS GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN
May 10 - July 22 2015 Working with Jewell Cassells was a fortunate opportunity for me to get experience with such a well known and successful interior designer. The project Jewell was working on during my internship was the Glenorchy Market Place which has been registered with the Living Building Challenge under Net Zero Energy Certification pathway requirements. To achieve this, the site must generate as much energy as it uses over the course of a year, which they will accomplish by using solar photovoltaic panels.
29
The majority of my internship with Jewell was organizing the online furniture inventory of every piece of furniture they had on site. We visited the site occasionally which was a 40 minute drive away to double check on furniture pieces, take pictures to aid the inventory, and liase with the clients/ people working on the site. Projects that were assigned to me also included small jobs on autocad such as adding small details to plans, making a sample board to test out the organic paint colors and lastly, coming up with potential design concepts for a metal vent cover which involved liaising with an engineer.
QUEENSTOWN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
May 10 - July 22 2015 Working as a laborer was a lot of hard work and physically taxing. This required determination and being quick to learn as I had never been on a building site before.
My jobs on site as a laborer included shovelling, making and pouring concrete, levelling the ground with a lazer level and compactor, and laying down steel reinforcing for the flooring. But my favorite part of this job was the design conversations I had with the clients, discussing their potential vision and brainstorming ideas through precedent images and sketchup. I felt that throughout this internship my opinion was valued with some of my main contributions being the type of flooring in certain rooms, the color and style of hand railing for the stairs, art work, and the style of the main entrance interior stairs. Lastly, I was asked to design a 3D model of the house which I was able to do in sketchup Pro, so that they could get a better feel for the space.
30
Seeing how a house is built from the beginning was a very valuable lesson to gain a more in depth knowledge in the field of design. Most days I would listen to the builders complain about having to work from architects, engineers or designers plans and how difficult it was for them due to their plans not being realistic as to what could be physically built. They said, “the best plans are from those that have had building experience.” Although this wasn’t the luxury job, it was a truely valuable exerience to have as a designer, giving me a different perspective.
