Governor’s Farewell Hello Georgia Circle K! It’s been an amazing year serving as your governor, and I’m honestly devastated to say goodbye. I’m proud of my district, from the members to the club presidents to my district board. I’ve seen a lot of you grow in just a short time, something that I can relate to as a general member who ended up as club president after a year. To the district administrator team and my district board, thank you for your service this year. It truly would have been impossible for me to set my plans in motion without you. I’m going to miss our late night shenanigans and the fun we always had at board meetings, district events, and club meetings. My time in Georgia Circle K has been full of great memories that I will hold dear for the rest of my life. My goal was to be able to visit all my club presidents and clubs in person, and I am so happy I got to fulfill that dream with y’all this year. From the club meetings to the service projects to the socials, I was blessed to be able to meet y’all in person and experience the different dynamics that clubs have. It’s astounding to see how clubs band together and each club is their own little family. I joined Circle K back in August 2016, and walked into a club meeting at Tech not knowing anyone. I only knew I wanted to do community service, but I was scared of making friends and talking to other members. Fast forward to February 2017, and I was volunteering to be my club president the next year, my first leadership position ever. Even though I wasn’t sure of myself, I persisted because of the friends I had supporting me. That’s what I want for every Circle K member. For those of y’all stepping into new leadership positions in the coming year, know that I believe in you. I am supporting you from the sidelines. If you truly believe in your work, you can accomplish anything you set your heart to. This is the end of my time in Georgia Circle K, and it feels like it’s been a lifetime and a blink of an eye at the same time. I got to travel to so many different places, not only in Georgia but in other districts as well. I’ve made such strong friendships with people I can laugh with, cry with, or vent to. I’m thankful for the experiences and people and skills I’ve gained, and I can only hope that you as members get to experience such wonderful things. Yours in service,

DISTRICT CONVENTION RECAP
Every District Convention is a little different. This one was really a special one, representing 11 schools. We also got to share this weekend with Georgia Key Club, attending their Friday night session and getting to see some of our very own members hypnotized. Throughout the weekend, we elected a full District Board, raised $5000 for WASH, hosted two workshops and did multiple service projects to support different organizations around Georgia. Thank you to all the alumni and Kiwanians who came out to be on our career panel and to Virginia Braswell, our Assistant District Administrator, for leading the financial literacy workshop. Thank you to Anla Etheridge, now our past Assistant Administrator, who officially retired at the convention, for your years of work with Georgia Circle K. Finally, thank you to the District Board for running an amazing District Convention amazing and congratulations on a successful term and retirement. By CONVENTIONS CHAIR Mina Jeong

MOMENTS FROM DCON was such a great experience and I love getting to meet new people. The service projects were fun and the dinner was just awesome!
Candice Briere Georgia State University DCON was a memorable weekend filled with meeting people, celebrating the achievements of all GA Circle K clubs this year, and trying to find the elusive golf carts that Peachtree City is known for.
Wendy Yao Georgia Institute of Technology
I really enjoyed my time at District Convention! It was really interesting to watch the new board and the election process take place. It is great that we are able to go and have a say in who will represent us. It is also always a great time to see everyone after the year!

M OUR MEMBERS District Convention is my absolute favorite Circle K activity, because it reminds me that the club is so much more than just my school. Seeing people from all over Georgia and even across the country come together for a unified event is simply amazing to be a part of. This always inspires me to work even harder for my own club.
Ana Diaz University of Georgia
This was my very first DCON so I had no idea what to expect, but it was such an amazing experience. I had so much fun taking pictures, making tiktoks, getting hypnotized, and bonding with everyone. It was nice looking back and reflecting on all the work that the clubs in the district did this past year!
Armando Acosta Georgia State University
DCON was amazing. Having to meet old friends and make new friends has been a good experience overall. Lucy Zheng will surely be missed. As this was my last DCON, my emotions were all over the place‌ too hard to leave Circle K but as they say, a new chapter is the beginning of a greater story!

WRAPPING UP THE YEAR 10
Total Money From Fundraising The Georgia District of Circle K once again participated in Penny Wars, a fundraising initiative for the WASH project. For this initiative, clubs are paired with rivals for some friendly competition to further inspire fundraising. From September 16th to November 8th, members across the state raised $4259.12, greatly surpassing the district goal of $3,500. This amount can provide a school with enough funds to build enough latrines to allow improved sanitation for over 150 students, 2 reliable hand pumps that will help deliver clean water for two entire communities, and over 2,00 oral rehydration salt sachets! Thank you to all the clubs that participated!
Special shout out to the Circle K club at the University of Georgia who won this year’s Penny Wars, raising $2341 for the WASH project!
This year at Pie-in-the-Face at District Convention, all the clubs of Georgia Circle K bid a total of $5,050 for WASH! Counting all the money from the whole service year, we raised $5,624.70! All the volunteering at concession stands, gift wrapping during the holidays, and Washme6Ks paid off! By SERVICE CHAIR Rylie Geohegan and SECRETARY & TREASURER Amanda Lang

Thanking Our Presidents
I want to give a big shout out to our 2019-2020 club presidents! The role of club president is, in my opinion, one of the toughest in the organization. You’re constantly planning service projects, leading meetings, communicating with members, and more! It takes so much time and effort, even with the help of other officers. It’s a hard job, and I’m proud of the club presidents this year for stepping up to the task. Whether they were elected into the position or took over halfway through the year, this class of club presidents was full of strong individuals. I’m excited to see where they go in the coming year, whether continuing on as club president for another year or as a district board member or as a general member. Thank you so much for your dedication to the organization and your home club!

District SPOTLIGHTS Distinguished Member Timothy Vanjohnson Jr. Timothy is a dedicated member of the University of West Georgia Circle K club! This year, he served as the club’s social media chair and webmaster, and was an integral part of the officer team. He attended every meeting, service project, and social he could, and offered to drive whenever he was available. In the fall, he planned a project with his running club, where Circle K members cheered on racers at the first half marathon race in Carrollton, GA. In order to take part in our GACKI week campaign, he made a brand new Instagram account to do our daily challenges! Keep up the terrific work, Timothy!
Distinguished Club Valdosta State University Valdosta State University Circle K is really blazing with passion for service! In the months leading up to DCON, they had a great recruitment event and interest meeting, and appointed club officers. In just one meeting, the club went from five potential members to over fifteen. Four club members came to represent at DCON, and one even was elected to district board! They most recently passed out over 100 pizza slices to students on campus to promote their club and social media. We’re so excited to see where these Blazers go in the next year!

The District From An
Steve Shaw Hello GACKI! It’s been three weeks since District Convention, and I still am thinking about how amazing of an experience it was. I arrived on Saturday night in the middle of the pie auction, and immediately jumped in on the bidding. Sadly, I did not get a pie (I know now to bring more money next year), but what I did get was a warm welcome from everyone. The energy at the convention was amazing. From Saturday Dinner to the Farewell Banquet, everyone was so excited to be there and present. The community of companionship and support y’all have built throughout the year showed through in spades. This was especially true during my two favorite parts: watching people get pied and listening to Lucy’s farewell speech. Everyone was so engaged and everyone went out of their way to make me feel right at home in all of this, and I can’t thank you all enough
Steve Shaw International Trustee Circle K International steven.shaw@carolinascki.org
I’ve only had the opportunity to see you all a few times this year, but every time I was surrounded by friends and fellow CKI’ers - both old and new. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to cap off the service year with y’all. To those of you that are graduating this year, thank you so much for the service you’ve done and being an inspiration during my time in CKI. I cannot wait to see what you all do in the future, and please know you always have a home in the Kiwanis Family. To those of you who will be in CKI next year, I cannot wait to serve with you all! Till next time, Steve Shaw

Maria Landron Hello Georgia District, During my entire term as a trustee, I loved all things Georgia CKI. I loved the way that board pictures were taken at the Circle K gas station, how Governor Lucy would always travel all over the state to visit different clubs, and how the new clubs were thriving! A few weeks ago, my inner fangirl peaked when I had the opportunity to attend GACKI’s DCON. If I could describe GACKI CKI in one word it would be in-sync. Despite the fact that your CKIs are all over the state, you still have this incredible connection to one another. When I got to DCON, this connection you all had made me feel at home. You all melted my heart! Whether it was the 3 AM food runs with UGA to Waffle House, or going to Steak and Shake after the Saturday banquet, there was always a time to make new friends! Whether it was Lucy’s amazing Governor roast, hearing your personal CKI stories, or seeing how close you were with your Kiwanis Family counterparts, this weekend reminded me something that I’ve known my entire term: Georgia CKI is AMAZING. I’m definitely contemplating moving to Georgia and joining such an amazing family full-time. But in the meantime I hope to see you all soon at CKIx in Las Vegas, Nevada this summer. Las Vegas is the perfect place for this reunion. Please let me know if you ever need anything, because you will always have a friend in me!

To our lovely district, This past year, the district board has worked long and hard to create the best experiences for the Georgia District of Circle K. Throughout this experience, we were able to develop our leadership skills and grow to become better people. With only 13 people on the district board, we were able to host three district wide events, all of which were very successful. The interactions we had with the community has led to long lasting relationship and unforgettable memories. None of this would have happened without all the support and feedback we get. Therefore, we would like to thank all our members and affiliates for giving us the opportunity to serve this year and we hope that we left a lasting impact on the Georgia District! Yours in service,
The 2019 – 2020 District Board 23
I feel so lucky to have found Circle K. It’s easily one of my favorite things I’ve done during my years studying at college. I’m very thankful for the many leadership experiences I’ve gained through Circle K. I used to be extremely nervous speaking in public but it’s now not as daunting. It’s allowed me to use my time to do good in the community and has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people throughout Georgia that I otherwise wouldn’t have met. Everyone I’ve met through Circle K have been some of the most warm and kindhearted people I know. My favorite Circle K event is Fall Membership Retreat because it’s when you really get time to bond with other people in the Georgia District. I will forever cherish the memories of singing at the campfire and playing games with my team. I’m thankful for the warm & fuzzies I’ve received. I forget things easily and so the notes help me reminisce on the amazing time I had at FMR. I’ve held the position of District Webmaster for two terms now so I’m sad to let it go. To my successor: enjoy every minute because it goes by way too fast! Please don’t be afraid to reach out if you have any questions because I know I’m going to forget and leave something out when I train you. You have big shoes to fill ;) but I know you’ll do great!

When I first joined Circle K my freshman year, I never thought that I would be ending my senior year by retiring from the district board. I think many people can relate that leadership opportunities are not always necessarily sought after, but present themselves to you because you happen to be at the right place at the right time. My time in Circle K has been a series of such, from serving as the president of the newly rechartered UGA club my sophomore year to serving in a committee chair position for the past two years. I am so honored that I had the opportunity to work under two amazing governors who were dedicated to bringing real change to the organization. Each of these leadership opportunities have been a new growing moment and I learned so much about myself and gained more confidence in my potential. This year, as the Conventions chair, my work consisted of leading the Con-Con committee to bring together our two district-wide events, FMR and DCON. One of the biggest goals in planning the state-wide events was to make sure that the events were fun and useful for the attending members. Working towards this goal can be scary because you have to face the outcome of your work in person. However, it is also one of the most rewarding things to be able to see unfold in front of you what you’ve spent months planning, to see the members enjoy the events and even make it a point to tell you how much they enjoyed them. I am so excited for the new committee chairs who will take over and get to experience this rewarding position. Thank you to everyone who attended the Georgia District events this year. They have all been unforgettable.

Rylie Geohegan SERVICE CHAIR
Serving on the Georgia district board for Circle K International this past year has taught me more than I could ever have imagined. I have learned communication skills that are applicable to any career choice, as well as organizational and leadership skills. Another crucial skill I’ve worked on this past service year is the ability to balance academic, personal, and Circle K responsibilities. Serving the district board as service chair has given me experiences I will grow off of for future academic, social, and service responsibilities. While I enjoyed all Circle K events this past year, my favorite was probably Fall Membership Retreat. This was the first year I was able to attend this event and I absolutely loved it. I met so many awesome people from all over the state and had felt like I really got to know them, especially with the vulnerability session at night. To the next service chair, I want to emphasize the importance of communication, allocating tasks, and planning well in advance. For this role, it is crucial to communicate with your committee and allocate tasks. Everyone on board wants to assist and lead the best service projects, release great newsletters, and raise as much money/awareness as possible for our service partners. To do this effectively, planning early and allocating tasks well before they are due to relieves stress on the service committee and helps relieves stress when any inevitable, yet unpredictable obstacles may present themselves. Everyone I’ve met who is involved in this organization is incredibly kind and passionate, and this is a fantastic opportunity to meet wonderful friends. I’m sure you’ll be great!

Never in a million years did I think that I would ever apply to be on the Georgia District Board. Being on the District Board this past year has given me the opportunity to grow so much and taught me how to be a leader. When I applied to be MD&E chair I had absolutely no idea that I would be the chair of the marketing committee. I could not have done it without the help of my committee members and Lucy. I was able to grow as a leader and learned how to chair a committee which gave me skills that I will use for the rest of my life.
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION CHAIR
It is no surprise that FMR was my most favorite district event this past year. It will forever have a special place in my heart as I helped plan the event and was one of the team leaders, which was the highlight of FMR. It was such an incredible feeling seeing everyone come together to form such strong friendships and bonds in such a short amount of time. During the vulnerability session, everyone was able to open up. I will never forget the friendships I made at FMR, and it will always be my absolute favorite district event. My advice to the next MD&E chair is when you have to introduce yourself and your position, just say “MD&E chair”. Being a committee chair takes a lot of work. It is your responsibility to schedule meetings and lead them, so make sure that you are prepared. Make sure you set time aside so the work does not become overwhelming. Your committee is there to help, so don’t be afraid to ask for help! My last bit of advice is to have fun. Being on the District Board is such an amazing and rewarding experience, so make sure you take some time to sit back and enjoy it!

I woke up today at 10am to a text from Abbey saying, “The Circle K thing is due today just so you know.” Yikes, let me sit down and type this bad boy up. I decided to add in this little anecdote about how this reflection began, because I feel like it does a good job of capturing my year as an LTG. It is no secret that monthly reports and Kronicle articles are not my favorite parts of being on board, but all the other benefits make it worth it. My favorite part of being on board is the relationships I have developed throughout the two years I have served. I know that there are people all over the state I could come to if I was ever in the neighborhood and have a place to stay, and for them I would do the same. Whenever you work closely with people over a period of time, you are bound to develop some sort of friendship with them. Many of these friendships are situational and quickly end once the reason you were thrown together is over. However, the people on this board I know I will be able to visit and be friends with even after the service year comes to an end. There is no service project that has been looked forward to in a more exciting way than working at the retirement home. It may not seem that interesting because all we do is play bingo with retired people but think again. We don’t come for the bingo or that warm feeling you get from doing something good for others. We come for the gossip. Which employee is less than perfect? What are the grandkids up to? Who is dating who? These are all questions that whether you ask or not will be answered for you. At no other service project do you get to learn about drama. Nothing else compares.

My first year on board was such an amazing experience and I am sad this is my last year since I am graduating. From being on the executive board of my club to being on the district board, it has broadened my leadership skills and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. This year’s Fall Membership Retreat was the most memorable Circle K event to me and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I loved leading my group with Linda and the people in it, the Neverland theme, the group activities, and the service project we did this year! I am so thankful for another great Circle K year! As a member of Circle K for four years, I can say that being in this organization has been one of the greatest college experiences I’ve ever had. For the next Public Relations Chair, I want you to know that you’re going to have an amazing time with the people on board and other members you’ll meet. You’re also going to enjoy posting on Instagram especially you’ll get the chance to be super creative on the Stories. Another plus is that you’ll be the voice of Gacki! I encourage you to get the other clubs to be more involved on social media so you’ll be able to post more about their involvement on their campus. I know you’ll do great things and represent our district very well!

Alyssa Adel PLAINS DIVISION LTG
My year as an LTG has taught me a lot. I have learned just how important communication is in accomplishing your goals. I have gotten better at balancing my academic life, family life, social life, and responsibilities. Overall, it has just prepared me more for the future by presenting me with experiences that I wouldn’t normally encounter in a classroom setting. Every district event has been so special to me. However, my all time favorite memories from this year were the weekend meetings with the district board. It was always a nice little getaway and bonding experience. To the next Plains LTG: As I said before, communication is key. It is your job to inform your clubs of what’s happening on a district level and also to assist in any issues they may be having. Forming a connection with the clubs will help with communication. It is important that you really get to know your clubs, and not just the presidents. The other officers and members are all vital to a successful division. If you can, visit the clubs regularly, whether it be a general meeting or a service project. Lastly, have fun! I know you’ll be great.
30
Serving as Metro LTG has not only shown me the passion for serving our community but also all the potential for individual growth and development amongst our members. My favorite Circle K event has always been FMR but this year, I enjoyed planning and hosting a Metro divisional rally at the Henry Kiwanis County Fair. That day was full of service, fellowship and fun at the fair. I’m so proud of my division, our district, and all we’ve accomplished together. Raising over $5000 by DCON was an amazing feat and couldn’t have been done alone.
Linda Qiu
METRO DIVISION LTG
To my successor, you’re about to gain a loving family of friends from 7 schools. Yes, it’s a lot but they are all unique and that’s what makes them so special. First off, I really recommend going to visit each school’s CKI and establishing a personal bond with the club members. Make sure you not only create a division group with all the club presidents, but also join all each school’s club/officers GroupMe to stay updated. You will come to learn that some may more stable than others and as so, you should take note of that and tailor your assistance for each school. What you put into this position is what you’ll get out of it. Enjoy your term, I know you’ll do great!

Chloe Crumbley
This year, I was given the opportunity to serve an LTG and learn the value of service leadership. I learned to communicate better and give myself grace when I messed up. I overcame my concerns about walking onto a board as a new member, and they welcomed me with open arms. When I began college, I lost sight of what role I served in the Kiwanis Family. It was harder to be involved, to find time to serve and time to know our members. Thanks to my board members, I started to remember why I loved our K-fam so much. I also met a hilarious, caring group of members at FMR. The four of us named ourselves Trash Buds, after those humble beginnings picking up bottles and candy wrappers at a trail cleanup. They are the perfect example of friendship that only exist because of Circle K. At this year’s DCON, I had the honor of seeing two of those friends join the GACKI board. I look forward to seeing what they and the rest of the board do next year. To whoever takes over the Mountains division, I encourage you to visit them, and text or email them when you can’t meet in person. Keep pushing them to charter, recruit and maintain their membership, and most of all, remind them why they serve with Circle K. Show them that they each are vital to the vision of the Georgia District. While I am heartbroken to leave the Georgia District this year, I am sure we will keep in touch, making new memories and reminiscing old ones. No matter where you are or what you become, we are all inseparably linked through our mutual desire to better the lives of others.

Leah Reiser COASTAL DIVISION LTG
There are so many different things I could say about this incredible year. First, thankyou to all the officers and the members in the Coastal Division. It was amazing to be able to work with you all this year. You are all very dedicated and I cannot wait to see what you all accomplish going forward from here. I cannot tell you all how proud I am of you and how happy I am to have been a part of your CKI journey. We have had a lot of laughs this year along the way and I look forward to hearing from you all about what you are doing very shortly. While working with the Coastal Division I have also learned a lot this year. I learned that driving is no big deal when it means that you can see the friends you have made at the end of it. I also learned that if you put your mind to it and do your best amazing things can happen even if they seem impossible. With that being said, there were still a few challenges over the year (mostly due to my own fault, sorry about my foot y’all). However, these challenges can be overcome as we have shown over and over again. This position has reminded me why I am in Circle K to begin with and how to be the best version of myself that I can be. To the next Coastal Lieutenant Governor and to future Coastal Lieutenant Governors, congrats. You got a really good division to work with. Remember, it is what you make of it and try to be as available as possible!

Michelle Vo BULLETIN EDITOR
I distinctly remember that Bulletin Editor was not my first choice for positions on District Board. In fact, I didn’t consider it at all. The position intimidated me, and I thought I wouldn’t be able to meet expectations because I had no prior experience with any design. However, Lucy saw something in me that I didn’t and gave me the position. After a year of being Bulletin Editor, I can say that I’m not disappointed in the work I created, and I am grateful Lucy gave me this opportunity! Not only did I gain leadership experience in this position, but I also developed a ton of Adobe skills. My favorite Circle K experience this year was FMR! The most memorable moment was that I got be lead a group of people throughout the event. Although I did not bring my family to first in Poncho, I had a great time getting to know everyone and it was an experience I can’t find anywhere else. To my successor, being Bulletin Editor is not as easy as it sounds. In this position, you’re constantly emailing people for their assignment, finding inspiration for each page in the publication, and working against a deadline. Something I suggest you do is take your own pictures. You know how you want your work to look and its more difficult to create based on pictures you didn’t have control over. Nonetheless, I can’t wait to see the work you produce and what you end up doing to the Kronicles!

I really was not sure what being District Secretary-Treasurer was about. Hindsight is 20/20 and I’m just now realizing, a month before I’m retiring, that there was so much I didn’t do. BUT, hopefully there was a lot that I did do -
SECRETARY - TREASURER
I did make friends from all over the district, recognized potential for clubs to grow and identified those that may have challenges, I did learn and sharpen my skills in the infamous Membership Update Center, And I think I became a better person through this role. It was very interactive as it was my responsibility to monitor club progress in terms of dues paid, participation in service projects and interclubs. I also volunteered at different events for the first time, such as wrapping birthday presents for kids through SimpleNeeds Georgia in Marietta, volunteering at the AMIS Welcome Reception at Spelman College, and creating literacy kits to help kids learn to read.’ Perhaps my favorite part of this year was watching Daniel Scarborough receive the Alice D. Stacy Passion for Service Award. Daniel volunteers at service events every single week, drives our members to events in his pick-up truck, and exudes so much enthusiasm for service as Vice President at Georgia Tech Circle K. There aren’t enough awards in the world that match his persona but seeing him get a little pat on the back in the form of a plaque did make me feel happy for him.

Hello GACKI! While our service year is coming to an end, we hope that you are all safe and well, and practicing safe social distancing. It is hard to believe that another GACKI year has come and gone, but we are grateful for all of the hard work of the District Board, clubs, and members. While the primary goal of the administrative team is to advise and assist the District Board and Faculty/Kiwanis Advisors, we enjoyed getting to meet so many new members at FMR and DCON this year, and hope to see many of you returning next year. It is our wish for you that your GACKI memories and friendships will last a lifetime as ours have. While the future is uncertain we cannot wait to see you all again soon for virtual COLT and to meet with the new District Board. We cannot wait for you to be able to return to your campuses and continue on with your college careers while providing service to your campuses/communities, enjoying the fellowship of your clubs and the district, and continuing to grow and develop your leadership skills. If you need anything during this time, or if there is something that we can do to assist your club, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Again, thank you, the members, clubs and District Board for an amazing GACKI service year.

Service Partners International Preferred Charities The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization that leads the fight for the health of all moms and their babies by working to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Throughout the year, Circle K members raise money to support the March of Dimes. In addition to collecting money, CKI members can participate in the annual March for Babies held in April. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is an organization that works to improve the lives of children in over 190 counties. Its main goal is to help children all over the world survive and reach their full potential by providing medicine, clean water, vaccines, and educational opportunities. CKI members work with UNICEF to support the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in Haiti. This program works to provide access to safe drinking water and ways to separate human waste from contact with people, and basic toilets. It also nurtures good hygiene practice, especially with handwashing soap.
International Service Partners Better World Books is an online non-profit organization that uses books collected primarily through book drives and resells them online. Each time a book is purchased from their website, a book is donated to someone in need. CKI members can get involved by visiting the Book Drive research center on the website and signing up to hold a book drive on their college campus. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity organization whose goal is to fund promising research to find cures to childhood cancers. The organization takes funds raised by their supporters and donates them to carefully selected research grants. CKI members can get involved by participating in the head shaving events. “Shavees” ask friends and family to make donations “on their head”. In return, they attend events to have their heads shaved in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. Students Team Up to Fight Hunger (STUFH) is a national non-profit organization devoted to feeding the hungry, raising awareness among college students about food insecurity, and inspiring food drives at colleges around the country. CKI members can get involved by organizing food drives on their campus, donating time and/or money to local food backs, and grow their own food to donate to their local soup kitchen.
