THIS Past year we lost one of our dear friends and greatest Comet supporters. Mr. Jamie Britt was a fixture around South Gwinnett Football and was a coach for the coaches. He was always there to offer uplifting words and support during tough times and would stand beside you when things were tough. He would always seem to fade away when things were good so not to receive any credit himself. He was a loyal friend to us all. You could always find him helping wherever needed during the week as preparations for the game took place. When the lights came on each Friday night in Richard Snell Community Stadium, you could find Jamie in the Coaches Press Box offering his suggestions and support. Even though his suggestions were never considered in terms of play calling, his support was always welcome. He would stay late into the night after ball games helping the coaches with whatever needed to be done. His biggest contribution to us was allowing us to call him “Our Friend. Even though we will miss Jamie Britt immensely, We know that he will be watching intently in spirit each time the Comets take the field! We Love You Jamie and we will always miss you brother! Sincerely,
Coach Small

Greetings to the South Gwinnett Community: On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to South Gwinnett High School and Richard Snell Community Stadium at Bobby Bridges Field for the 2013 football season. Our coaches, players, managers, cheerleaders, and band are excited about this season and look forward to displaying pride and effort everyFriday night. As we secure a stronger South Gwinnett, we build on the tradition of the Blue and Gray and celebrate what makes us Comets! We are proud of our student athletes; their talents, gifts, determination and teamwork. They have earned my respect, loyalty and support. As we participate in the pageantry of South Gwinnett football, be mindful of the hours sacrificed by our student athletes, coaches, and band. Our team and band deserve your encouragement and support. Your presence here tonight embraces the intangibles of Friday night football. Our athletic department is grateful for your patronage. I encourage you to cheer for our gridiron Comets, enjoy the entertainment of our award winning Comet band, cheer with our Comet cheerleaders, and enjoy our Comet concessions. It is with great anticipation that we embrace another winning year of Comet football. Go Comets!

RICHARD SNELL FEATURE Richard Snell was born on March 7, 1934. He was a Snellville native who traced his roots to the city’s founder. He graduated from the Old Snellville School in 1951. He attended West Georgia, Georgia State and Southern Tech. At age 19, he joined his family’s highway construction business. He and his three brothers worked as laborers, advancing to vice presidents in the early 1960s. He was president of E. R. Snell Contractor from 1978 until his retirement in 1996. Richard was the GHCA President from 1985 to 1987. Richard was dedicated to his family and his community. He was active in the Snellville United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees and chaired the Martha Snell (wife) Chris Snell (son) building committee; and he gave generously of himself in Eddie Snell (son) and civic and youth activities, including work with the Snellville LuAnne Snell Manry (daughter) Health Association Committee and the Snellville Downtown Development Authority, The Snellville Lodge and the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce. Richard was a leader in booster activities for the South Gwinnett High School football program. He had a passion for South Gwinnett High School; he helped oversee the new stadium which is called the “Richard Snell Community Stadium”. He served many years as a Little League coach, and was also a Boy Scout supporter. Richard Snell passed away on June 14, 1999. He was a loving husband to his wife, Martha Bennett Snell, and a proud and devoted father to his three children; Ed, Chris and LuAnne. 14
