HELLO

COLUMBIA

EAGLES FAMILIES A N D S P O R T S FA N S !

The CHS Basketball Booster Club would like to extend a welcome to all CHS Students, Alumni’s, Parents, Families, Business Partners and Surrounding Community. We are a school and community striving toward both academic and athletic excellence, with a high level of school spirit and involvement. The CHS Basketball Booster Club is a volunteer group of interested adults, which supports all basketball activities within an environment that promotes leadership, team spirit, and sportsmanship, both in the classroom and at athletic events. We do this by providing financial support to the basketball teams that cannot be provided through normal school channels. Support is provided to the school for all eligible groups on an equitable basis, including all girls and boys teams, J.V. and Varsity alike. Parental involvement is the key to establishing a tradition of successful support provided by the Basketball Booster Club. The CHS Basketball Booster Club is a good way to get involved with the CHS students, staff, and parents. In past years with strong parent and community support, we have been fortunate to assist Columbia High School physically and financially and we thank all those individuals who have donated their time, talent, and resources for our school.

GEORGIA HARDWOOD GUIDE

We hope you will become an active member of the Boosters and will share in the support we offer to the basketball athletics program at Columbia High School. Become a member, and you will be in the “loop” of what is going on! Check out our upcoming web page, get on our e-mail list for updates, be a part of the action by volunteering to help out. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you will learn about the goings-on at CHS.

If your child is involved in basketball, you should become a member! We meet on a monthly basis and each meeting lasts about one hour. For more information, please contact one of our officers who are always diligently working in the Concession stand. Everyone can be a Booster. A Booster is simply an enthusiastic supporter of CHS sports programs. This support can be manifested in many ways -- by becoming a member of our Booster committees, by volunteering to work during sports events, by being a team parent or representative, through financial support, or by simply attending sports events to support our student-athletes. Please consider volunteering for any of our Booster Club activities, for concessions staff, for Fund raising activities throughout the year. Thank you for your support. Camille K. Dykes

GEORGIA HARDWOOD GUIDE

Columbia High is located on 2106 Columbia Drive in Decatur, GA. The Head Coach Phil McCrary Ed.D has been there for 19 years. He is the longest tenured coach in County History. He is assisted by three former players of his (Clint McCrary, Wallace Corker, Mario Lemons) and a personal friend of his (Julian Houston). Together, this coaching staff is like one big family. In his 23 years at Columbia, his record is 487-175 (.736) averaging 19.3 wins per season. With this record he has the highest win percentage in DeKalb County history, for a coach at one school. He has the best playoff win percentage in county history also. He has won 9 Region Titles and been Region Runner-up 8 times. This past year we went 27-5 and won the schools third State Championship, in basketball (he had been State Runner-Up 3 times before that). Along the way, the Eagles was runner up in the Beachball Classic, in Myrtle Beach, SC, and averaged a point differential of over 20 points per game. Although losing a couple key seniors, we will return a strong nucleus of players led by Tahj Shamsid-Deen ,Jarmal Reid, Chris Daniels, Jade McLendon with the new additions; Algie Key, Damien Goodwin and Jhaustin Thomas. This summer we will be participating in 3 summer leagues around Atlanta, one being the NIKE Pro City Summer League. We will also be attending the UGA team Camp. This year’s schedule includes the Prime Time Shootout (Morgantown ,WV), Alaska Airline Classic (Anchorage, Alaska), and the Arby’s Classic (Bristol, Tn.), just to name a few of the key events we will be a part of. As we embark upon the season we would like to take a moment and thank our administration, parents and supporters.
