The Department of Athletics would like to wish the Grey Knights of Grady best of luck in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. Being an Atlanta native, more specifically a graduate of APS, I have always admired Grady and how it established itself as a “Crown Jewel”, not only in the city of Atlanta, but the entire state of Georgia. The unwavering support of parents, members of the community, faculty and staff is what sets Grady apart from many other schools statewide. The coaches are dedicated to the task at hand, which is to mold young men and women into productive, responsible citizens. The athletic department is here to support ALL your athletic programs at Grady. Much success to you all this year. GO GREY KNIGHTS!

Notes of Interest Erk Russell’s 1953 team won the state title when they defeated Lanier High of Macon by a score of 9-6. It was no fluke that the Grey Knights held their opponent to a lone score. Their defense that season surrendered an average of only 4.7 points per contest. Most people recognize the name Erk Russell. Russell went on to carve his name into history as the long-time defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia Bulldogs. He later launched the ultra-successful football program at Georgia Southern University. His record at Grady was 42-14-8 over a six year span from 1952-57. Grady High can boast of three alumni who played in a least one regular season game in the NFL. They are: Jerry Green HB – 1960 with the Boston Patriots Earthwind Moreland DB – 2000, 01, 04 with the NY Jets, Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots Jack Rudolph LB – 1960, 62-66 with the Boston Patriots and Miami Dolphins
