Letter FROm Athletic Director Dear Friends of Monroe football, Welcome to the 2014 season of Hurricane football! Our coaches, staff, and student-athletes have been working very hard to improve and rebuild our program, and we are looking forward to a good season. The MAHS football team finished the year last year ranked in the top 10 with a record of 11-1. We won the back to back region championships for the first time in school history and had 8 seniors go on to sign athletic scholarships to play football in college. We set numerous offensive and team records last year before being ending the season in the sweet sixteen in the state playoffs. As most of you know, Coach Fligg retired this past year and we had twentythree seniors on the team to graduate. Although they will be missed, we are excited to have added new staff and many new players to our team. These coaches and players have worked hard in the off-season. We had a record number of student athletes attend summer workouts and conditioning and we are excited about the future of the MAHS football team. I believe that success is not measured only by the number of wins or losses, but by the values gained from the experience - teamwork, self-discipline, integrity, sportsmanship, and citizenship. Monroe Area has developed a rich tradition of building character over the years, and I believe this year will be no different. Our student-athletes are excited to be back on the field and appreciate the support of their fellow students, parents, teachers, and fans. I would like to extend my thanks to all who help to build and maintain the outstanding football program that we have here at Monroe Area. Thanks to our coaches and staff who work diligently to prepare our athletes; to the teachers and staff who work tirelessly to build strong minds; to our cheerleaders and band members who devote many hours to showing their pride and support; to the parents and family members who give so much of their time and efforts; to the Monroe community who gives back in so many ways; and, last but certainly not least, to the many fans of Monroe football who have supported and cheered us on through the years. Monroe Area High School would not be the same without your support! I encourage all of you to stay involved, and get more involved in any capacity that you can to help make this year another Year of the Hurricanes - strong to the finish! With Hurricane pride,

Eli Connell Athletic Director Monroe Area High School

Letter FROm Team Chaplain What an honor to be a part of Monroe High school athletics for another season. Being an athlete, I enjoy using athletics to build relationships, encourage great sportsmanship and the importance of scholastics coupled with a relationship with Christ. I can remember a game of highs and lows, we sure made plenty of mistakes, but so much like life a mistake is only and event and does not determine who you are. I must admit that I have never seen a team fight as hard as that group of young men up to that point. Sadly we fell short and loss the game. Looking back we are all better because of that loss. Thats right, a high school sport went far beyond the field. Victories as well as setbacks shape and mold us into the young men that we are designed to be. There is great work all ready at work among the coaches, players, and staff at Monroe High School. All this goes way beyond the scope of football. When we leave the field it matters how you win or lose. Sportsmanship is a truth that teaches students how to cope with everyday life. My goal as chaplain is to foster and encourage relationships with students and athletes that serve to support and build character. My desire is for myself and the lives of coaches, players, and staff to be continually changed, for growth in every area of life, and to be a lasting influence for those who participate or observe MAHS athletics this year. It is easier to build boys than mend men.- Truitt Cathy You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. -1 Cor 9:24-25 Brian Widmer - Chaplain Athletic Impact Ministries We are not just Fridays, We are Family

Letter FROm HEAD COACH Sulkowski enters his first season as Head Football Coach & Head Boys Track Coach at Monroe Area High School. Sulkowski comes to Monroe after spending the last four years as the Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Baker County High School in Glen St. Mary, Florida. The Wildcat offense experienced success under Sulkowski after breaking numerous longstanding BCHS offensive records as well as winning a 2012 District 3-AAAAA Championship. Sulkowski led an offense that finished no lower than sixth in Northeast Florida over the last four seasons out of sixty plus schools. The wildcat offense finished 1st in total offense in 2011 and 2012 with over 450 yards per game. Sulkowski brings a vast wealth of experience, mainly at the collegiate level, to the Monroe football program after serving his first seven years as a collegiate football coach. Sulkowski previously served as Offensive Coordinator at Johnson C. Smith University and Greensboro College. Sulkowski also spent time in various coaching roles at North Carolina A&T State University, Hargrave Military Academy and Chowan University. Sulkowski has coached two collegiate All-Americans in Torrey Lowe and Jeremy Franklin during his stay in the collegiate ranks. Sulkowski began his collegiate playing career at Auburn University in Alabama before transferring to Valdosta State and then Chowan University. Sulkowski is well recognized in the coaching profession and is a published author with his book 101 Drills for the Spread Offense. He was featured in ESPN the Magazine for his unique wide receiver drills as well as American Football Monthly on three occasions. Sulkowski also spends time as a member of the American Football Coaches Association where he serves as a CoLuncheon Committee Chair for the organizations National Convention. Sulkowski, who will serve as a Physical Education teacher at MAHS, is married to the former Rachel Logan Hollis whose family is originally from Monroe. The Logan’s have been long standing members of the Monroe community. The couple was married at The Foundry Inn & Spa in downtown Athens. Rachel currently serves on staff at the Walton County Sheriffs Office as the Director of Victim Assistance. The couple looks forward to being involved in the Monroe community.
