Pickens High School Pursuing Higher Standards

! ! Fall 2014

Welcome Dragon Nation and Guests! On behalf of Pickens High School, I want to welcome you to our beautiful Dragon Stadium nestled in the scenic mountains of North Georgia. Very few events are as enjoyable as a Friday night high school football game during late summer and fall seasons in North Georgia. Football games at Pickens High School allow our students and their families to socialize in a positive and fun manner. The faculty and staff of Pickens High School offer our southern hospitality and appreciation for your visit to our campus. Additionally, I would like to personally thank the coaches, the staff, the sponsors, parents, and students for making this a terrific sporting event for Pickens High School and the community. Countless hours and days have been spent in preparing for this upcoming season. Football coaches, cheerleading sponsors, band directors, and their corresponding students should be commended for their dedication and commitment. Finally, I hope you will continue to support the football team, cheerleaders, band program, and all other activities at Pickens High School during the course of the year. I am glad that you are here. Please enjoy the game and have a safe trip home.

Respectfully, Chris LeMieux, Ed.D.

Coach Chris Parker is beginning his 3rd season as the Head Football Coach of the Pickens Dragons. Prior to the 2012 season, the AJC named Coach Parker the “best new hire in AAAA.” In Coach Parker’s first two seasons at PHS, the Dragons have set numerous offensive records, and began the process of building the Pickens Football Program into a power each year.

HEAD COACH

CHRIS PARKER

Coach Parker came to Pickens after serving as the Head Football Coach at Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, GA. In his first season, the Panthers had their first winning season, first playoff team, and first playoff victory. The 2008 Panthers were named by the AJC as the Top Turnaround Program in the State of Georgia. The AJC also named Coach Parker the “Top New Coach in the State for 2008″. In 2009, the Panthers again made the state playoffs in GA’s highest classification (AAAAA). In 2011, the Panthers captured the Region 5S-AAAA Championship. Coach Parker has been named Region Coach of the Year in 2008 & 2011 and Douglas County Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, & 2011. Prior to becoming a Head Coach, Coach Parker served as the Offensive Coordinator at Sequoyah High School. During his tenure at Sequoyah, the school won their first Football Region Championship in 2003, and advanced to the State Quarterfinals in 2004, finishing 5th in the state in AAAAA. Coach Parker is originally from Foley, AL and attended Foley High School where he was a football letterman. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Secondary Education and received his M.S. in Coaching & Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. He and his wife, Kimberly, have one daughter, Ellie.

Pickens Football Family: Welcome to another exciting season of Dragons Football! I am humbled and honored to be the Head Football Coach of the Pickens Football Program. We are in the process of trying to build a successful Football Program in Pickens County. We are blessed to have a great group of players who have worked hard all year to make our County proud each Friday night. These young men have had to make many sacrifices and work many hours to be a part of our team and I am very proud of them. In building our Program, we need the help of many people. We have a great group of coaches who work tirelessly and selflessly to help each student-athlete reach their maximum potential. The administration and faculty of PHS have been great at welcoming our program and working with us. Our superintendent and school board have been very supportive. The band and cheerleaders have worked hard to make the experience of each Friday night memorable. We must have our sponsors to run our program and this year we have more than ever! Our Middle School programs and youth programs have been collaborating with us to make football great at all levels in Pickens County. Finally, each coach has a great individual support staff at home, and I would not be able to do what I do without my very supportive and loving wife, Kimberly, and my beautiful daughter Ellie. It is a great time to be a part of the Pickens Football Program! We want to set our goals high and work extremely hard to achieve them. We had a great beginning in 2012 & 2013 and we have made our 2014 goals to “FINISH”. We want to finish each drill, play, practice, and game with the most intensity possible. We want to be playing our best football at the end of the season and give ourselves a chance to compete for the state playoffs. Thank you for being a part of our Program. Let’s work together to FINISH in 2014 and make it the best season of Dragon Football yet!
