Ben Reaves, Head Coach

This is Coach Reaves second year at Walnut Grove High School. His coaching experience began with one year at Warren County High School as Offensive and Defensive Line Coach, and Head Baseball Coach. From there he went to Washington-Wilkes High School, where he coached for five years as Defensive Line Coach in football, as well as baseball and track. His first head coaching job was at Social Circle High School. During his five years at SCHS, he also coached track, was the Head Coach for the baseball team, and was Athletic Director. Coach Reaves then took the Head Football Coach job at Newton County High School, where he also coached baseball. He spent nine years at Newton County before taking the Head Football Coaching job at Putnam County High School. During the six years that he was at Putnam County, he spent two years coaching baseball. This year with WGHS begins his 22nd year as a Head Football Coach. Coach Reaves has been married to his wife, Pam, for 29 years. They have three children. Their oldest son, Ben, Jr., is 28 and coaches at Collins Hill High School. Their daughter, Brittney, 24, works for Delta Airlines. Their youngest son, Caleb, is 21 and is currently a Lay Coach at WGHS for 9th Grade football.

Coach Tony Barbera Coach Barbera is a 1990 Graduate from North Cobb High School, where he was a 4 year letterman in track and football. He was an All-County player and received Defensive Player of the Year 1990. He then played football at the University of West Georgia (1997-98). He finished his undergraduate studies at Kennesaw State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2002. During this time he was playing Semi-pro football for the West Georgia Thunder from 2000-2002 in Rome Georgia. In July 2002 he joined the ranks of professional MMA where he earned his MTR pro card and spent five years in the ring. He won his first IKF PRO MTR Heavyweight bout at the Roxy in Atlanta during the first round in 48 seconds by way of KO. He began his teaching career at Veterans Memorial in Newton County in January 2007. In 2009, he moved up to the high school ranks, teaching and coaching wrestling at Eastside High School in Newton County, and then here at Walnut Grove High. He is enjoying being part of the Warrior Nation where he now coaches freshman football and is one of the assistant coaches for varsity football. He attributes most of his success to the help and support of his lovely wife Jessica, to whom he has been married for seven years. They have two children Ean, 11, who attends Youth Middle School & Colten Storm who is 3 years old.
Coach Craig Edwards Coach Edwards is a 1997 graduate of Claxton High School. Coach Edwards served in the Georgia Army National Guard completing one tour of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He holds a B. S. degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University, 2002; a M. Ed. in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University, 2010; and recently earned his Ed. S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University in 2013. He has been teaching and coaching High School sports for 5 years. His first two years of coaching, he was the Receivers Coach. The past three years, he has been the Running Backs Coach. He met his wife, Rashunda, in college at Georgia State University and they have been married for 12 years. His wife faithfully serves the Walton community teaching 4th grade at Walker Park Elementary. They have four children, all whom attend Walton County Schools. They are: Jordan, age 17; Amara, age 15; Kaleb, age 11; and Kyndal, age 8.
Coach Matthew Bradley
Coach Mike Hancock
Coach Bradley received his Bachelor’s Degree in 2005 from Florida State University. In 2010, he earned his Masters’ Degree from Nova Southeastern University. He is currently in his 6th year of coaching, and 8th year of teaching, with this being his 5th year at Walnut Grove High School. Prior to WGHS, he taught and coached at Worth County for three years, and Baker School in Baker, Florida for 1 year. Coach Bradley teaches science, and is serving as the Head Coach of the 9th Grade football team. He has one daughter, Molly Reese, who is three years old.
Coach Hancock graduated from the University of Georgia with a BSED in Health and Physical Education. He is currently serving his fifth year of coaching here at Walnut Grove, and 18th year of coaching overall. His coaching experience includes: seven years at Loganville High School, two years at Chestatee High School, two years at Monroe Area High School, and two years at West Hall High School. Coach Hancock is the Defensive Coordinator for the Warriors and coaches the Defensive Backs. He and his wife Miranda have three children: Nash, 6, Brooks, 2, and Landry, 3 months.

Coach Rick Jacobson Coach Jacobson has been teaching and coaching since 1999 after graduating from Georgia State University with a BS in Mathematics. He also received a Masters Degree from Troy University in Post-Secondary Education. This is his second year at Walnut Grove. He taught and coached at Salem High School for seven seasons as the Special Teams Coordinator, Outside Linebackers, Defensive Line, Receivers, and Head JV Coach. He served at Alcovy High School, also for seven seasons, as the Special Teams Coordinator, and coaching Outside Linebackers, Defensive Secondary, and Defensive Line. Coach Jacobson is the Special Teams Coordinator for the Warriors and coaches the Outside Linebackers. He has been married to his wife, Tracy, for 24 years. They have two daughters: Ashley, 22, who is studying Early Childhood Education at Middle Georgia State College; and Brittany, 21, who is playing volleyball at Point University while studying Sports Marketing with minors in Management and Biblical Studies.
Coach Caleb Reaves Coach Caleb Reaves graduated from Putnam County High School in 2011 where he played three years Varsity football and four years Varsity baseball. After high school, he went to Valdosta State University to pursue a degree in Education. He spent the next three years at VSU working toward this degree. Currently he is enrolled at Georgia Gwinnett College where he will finish his degree in Special Education. He has his Lay Coach Certification, and is in his first year of coaching at Walnut Grove. He is currently a 9th Grade Warrior football coach, working with the receivers and defensive backs.
David Phenix
Coach Randy Reed
Coach Phenix attended Lakeside High School in Decatur, where he played football, track, and wrestling. After high school, he majored in Business at Presbyterian College, in Clinton, SC, where he was a three-year letterman in football. He received his Master’s Degree from Troy University in Post-Secondary Education and a Educational Specialist degree at Walden University. Prior to WGHS, Coach Phenix coached Offensive Line and 9th Grade football at Rockdale County High School for ten years. He is currently the Inside Linebackers Coach for the Warriors, as well as teaching Business Education at WGHS. He is married to his wife, Leesa, and they have three children: Ansley, Katie, and Tyler.
This will be Coach Reed’s fifth season coaching at WGHS. Along with coaching the defensive line for the Warriors, Coach Reed is also the outfield coach for the varsity baseball team. Coach Reed received his Bachelor’s degree in English from Shorter University, where he also played football for the Hawks for four seasons. This past December, Coach Reed received his Master’s degree at Valdosta State University. His first year at WGHS, he coached Defensive Tackles. Since then, he has coached the Offensive Line. He is married to his beautiful wife, Megan, and they have two children: Alexis (4), who is his little angel, and Levi (1), who can already out bench his old man.

Coach Jordan Rushing
Coach Rushing has been involved in sports for quite some time. A 2000 graduate of Westminster Christian Academy, he lettered in three sports: basketball, baseball, and soccer. He was also named the Region Most Valuable Player for the 1999-2000 basketball season. After high school he entered Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA, and played baseball from 2000-2001 for Robbie Jones. In 2006, Coach Rushing graduated from Piedmont College, in Demorest, GA, with a degree in Middle Grades Education. In 2007, he became the Assistant Baseball Coach at Clarke Central High School. The next year he moved to Newton High School, and was the 9th Grade Defensive Coordinator, as well as the Varsity Pitching Coach. In the 2008-2009 school year, he returned to Westminster Christian Academy as Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator, Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach, and Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach. From 2009 to the present, he has coached at Walnut Grove High School where he has been the Varsity Baseball Pitching Coach, 9th Grade Football Assistant Coach, 9th Grade Football Head Coach, Assistant Track Coach (throwers), and 2013-Varsity Wide Receivers Coach/9th Grade Head Coach. He married Ashley Aaron of Statham, GA in 2009. They have two children, Kellan Marie, age 2, and Maddux, 6 months.
Coach Trey Skaggs Coach Skaggs has been teaching and coaching since 1993 after graduating from the University of Georgia with a BSED in Health and Physical Education, he also received a Masters Degree from North Georgia College and State University in Health and PE. This is his second year at Walnut Grove. He has taught and coached at Social Circle High School, Heritage High School, Newton High School, Alcovy High School, Haymon-Morris Middle School and Apalachee High School. Coach Skaggs is the Offensive Coordinator for the Warriors and coaches the offensive line. In the past he has served as a head baseball coach, wrestling coach, golf coach, and track coach. He teaches In-school Suspension and Weight Training at WGHS, and is also the head boys track coach. He has been married to his wife Renee for 14 years, they have two children Robert, 10, and Steven, 7.
