Why Quadrophenia?
My project concept is based on the film Quadrophenia, representing the Mods who were a large influence during the Northern Soul time period. Set in Brighton in 1965, the film is based on a young Londoner identifying as a Mod; a group who drive motor scooters and are in constant rivalry with their opposition, the rockers.
Inspiring
My concept is surrounded by this film and the Mod culture, including their fashion, music and lifestyle. I will base my film and photo-shoot around how this film represents Northern Soul and what Quadrophenia might look like if it was based in the North during the 60s.

Northern Soul: Set in the South Interpret into Northern setting
My group collectively decided to base our project around the film Quadrophenia starring Phil Daniels. The film was set in the era of Northern Soul and our idea is to recreate scenes and the overall feel of the film but in a Northern setting, Sheffield. The film demonstrates the excitement and craziness of those times and we feel as though it is a great subject to take inspiration from for the concept of our project.

Styling
For the styling of our shoot and filming, we are taking inspiration from the film Quadrophenia. We will try to re-create shots seen in the film as well as taking our own which are influenced by the style of the film. This board shows certain poses, clothing and props which I believe demonstrate the style of that era and we will use them in our shoot. We have been lucky enough to source some iconic scooters for our shoot and possibly use in our final shot which would really portray ‘Northern Soul’ to us.
