Every Summer Has a Story…

This is absolutely my favorite time of the year!

The sun is shining extra bright, and you can feel the healing warmth on your skin. It’s when the green of nature is most vibrant and a walk outside can make it seem as if everything is right with the world. The nights feel magical and staying out later feels like a treat. Adventure is only one trip to the ice cream shop away. Even the stars in the sky seem to twinkle with a bit more sparkle.

One of my favorite memories as a child on late summer nights was playing an outdoor family game we called “spotlight.” We would run into the darkness to hide somewhere in the big country field we called our front yard. Our dad would sit on the front porch and count down until he would get to number 1 and yell “spotlight!” It was then that the field would light up with a super highpowered luminosity and we would be frozen trying not to be seen from any slight movement. The giggles, joyous moments and the out of breath sprints trying to beat the last person back to base still echo in my mind.

Maybe you are here this summer for an exciting annual vacation or maybe this beautiful and enchanting island is the place you call full time home. But over these next few months, I hope that this is the year of memories for you and your loved ones. I encourage us all to take the walks, stay up late, play the games, sit and listen to the stories and bookmark this season with intentionality.

I love the perspective in the quote by Bil Keane when he states, “Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.” When we know what really matters at the end of the day, may we all rest in peace that we are right where we are supposed to be at that very moment. Counting our many blessings one by one, let us fully embrace the awareness of how much we are loved. My wish for each one of you reading this is that you know how much value you bring to this world simply by being in it.

Opening in 1957, Neb and Joyce Crawford started out in Blackshear, Georgia with $500 worth of merchandise. After a few years and a few children, the store migrated to Waycross, Georgia where it stands to this day in Flander’s Shopping Center. All 4 of their children have continued their legacy, Their dedication to quality service and products was instilled in them by their parents and is the foundation that they serve their communities on.

2024 Wild Amelia Nature Festival

May 10–18, 2024 on Amelia Island, FL

Nine days of fun for adults and children!

Beginning Friday, May 10, enjoy nine fun-filled days of ecotours, a Sunset River Cruise fundraiser, Wild Storytime events for kids, Downtown to Dunes community cleanup, trolley tours of the Gardens of Amelia, and a very special Garden Party fundraiser at Main Beach Park. The week of events culminates with a beachside Eco-Expo.

Saturday, May 18, the Eco-Expo will be held at Main Beach Park from 10am–4pm. There will be something for everyone at this awesome family event. Come relax, have fun, and get in touch with nature beside the ocean!

Your admission includes their daily docent-led Eight Flags tour. An amazing tale of intrigue and adventure highlighting the events and people that shaped Fernandina’s spectacular history. This 1-hour docent-led tour is given at 11 am and 2 pm every Monday through Saturday, and at 2 pm every Sunday afternoon.
