AMELIA FERNANDINA

Amelia Island & Fernandina Beach

LETTER

EDITOR’S

HHow has it been a year already?!

I genuinely cannot believe that it has been an entire year since we began this journey together. Never has a trip around the sun been more exciting than this last one on this picturesque and quaint little island. We have grown new friendships, developed more depth with the people we already knew and truly feel like part of the family here. While reflecting on the last 12 months, I am overwhelmed by the hearts and souls in this community. Our team has felt so loved on, prayed for, taken care of and included so deeply.

My favorite question to ask people here is how they ended up on Amelia Island. While I have been told such unique and personal stories, I believe my favorite treasure chest was found in a large group that were all staying at The Addison on Amelia one evening. It was there that I encountered several couples that were all visiting from many various states. The laughter and boisterous voices that could be heard floating through the courtyard drew me in. I couldn’t resist the invitation to pull up a chair and join them on the back porch. I could tell that everyone seemed to know each other well. I assumed that they had all come together as a group. Once I got cozy and began to connect with everyone, that’s where I learned my new friend’s story. Everyone had met over ten years ago at The Addison when they were all down for a favorite Amelia Island event. Their friendship began then, and they have continued their reunion every year since. While seasons of life have brought shifts and changes to them, the evidence of how much they loved each other, the area and their stories filled my heart to overflow that night.

While Condé Nast Traveler certainly nailed it with recognizing Amelia Island as the #3 top island in the U.S., I have the immense gift of knowing so many of the people here that make it special. Yes, the scenery of white sand beach beauty brings so many from far and wide. Centre Street shops remind us that small town America is still strong and thriving. Hidden local gems are just a part of life here. But it’s the people for me. Tourists and locals. Each one with their unique reason for being here, it is YOU all that set this place on the map.

Thank you for a spectacular first year together and we cannot wait for many, many more years to come.
