Mister Lippens Leopold was the greatest mayor of Knokke Heist, he was very ill A few days before he died, he called me I went to him and he told me, Piet, now you have to take the lead of the Knokke Heist community, now you are the new mayor of Knokke Heist, so I accepted of course. I was very close to him and I was already 3 years his right hand to take all the decisions of Knokke Heist Please tell us about you, why did you become the mayor today? Knokke Heist people, Knokke Heist folks ( laugh) I think for several reasons, first, after Mister Lippens, I have the most votes here in Knokke Heist after Mister Lippens, which says that people have trust in me Second, that it is not something that happens in one or two years, it takes a lot of time and effort I was 15 years in college as a politician and it’s something that grows during years. My community, yes, correct After Mister Lippens, I have the most votes These are the two most important things that made me today the mayor of Knokke-Heist. I have been chosen by Mister Lippens and the Knokke Heist folks
Yes, he trusted me and I am very happy to serve and follow his vision However, I am not the copy of Mister Lippens, I will not copy him even though he was a tremendously fantastic person, and a very unique person I am also unique and I will have the same vision of how to lead my community and I am committed to do my best with my responsibility Thank you, as a citizen of Knokke-Heist, I am grateful that you want to do your best for the Knokke’s folks.

Knokke-Heist is not only quality of life, we’re also at the top level of everything, for example all of the expositions and events are at a very top level. Right now, we have a TOP photo exposition in Heist one of the top photographers in the world, Helmut Newton, died already. He was a fantastic photographer, you have to see it! It’s only in the Benelux, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg . That's what I mean about “quality” or the “International Fireworks Festival” . It's the top quality, not something that you can find everywhere. We are also going to renovate the Casino in 2 years, so everywhere you go in Knokke, there is always quality at the top level. If you go to the Beach Bar, you are also going to experience the top quality and we are always taking care of our people. Beach Bar must stop playing the music at 8 pm and close at 9 pm. We do this because we don’t want people at the Beach Bar at midnight and they all get drunk and make a problem at the moment itself and afterwards. We also want to support restaurants and let people be at dinner with their family, friends and their loved ones. This is a long term vision. Wow! Congratulations, Piet. I want to thank you for KnokkeHeist's people, I believe many out there have no chance to say it to you but I believe they are very grateful and very appreciative for what you do for our community, thank you Piet.

Piet, as you mention about Knokke-Heist is a quality of life, beside of a very beautiful beach we have, a clean city, lots of activities, good restaurant, great Art Gallery, high-end shopping center, the beautiful nature, top sport, and child friendly, what else people can expect to experience in Knokke-Heist?
Only a few cities in Belgium, and Knokke Heist is one of those exceptions We form a group of like minded people, who are smart, who are interested in our community and together, we will do something to make Knokke Heist better but we are not political and we do not have political cards. I am a lawyer, I work in a big office with 7 other great lawyers, I spend around 5 hours max in my office and I am here in the city hall most of the time because I have much work to do as the mayor of Knokke Heist, I work around 80 hours/week in the city hall, especially when people come to interview me, it takes a lot of time (laugh) especially the interviews! You ask a difficult question (laugh) No, listen, I’m born here in Knokke Heist, I love this city My father was also a politician and I always say, I want to help Knokke Heist. I saw it with my knowledge and I know about the community and as a lawyer I believe that I can be more helpful to my community, so in 2005, it’s about 17 18 years ago, mister Lippens asked me, Piet, do you want to join our group, people want to go to the election? So I said “yes” and joined the group to go for the election and I won! Very interesting. Is this an exception only for Knokke-Heist? (laugh) I appreciate and am thankful for your valuable time. So, you were a lawyer before, and how have you become so passionate about leading the community?

We are a very beautiful community, and city The most important thing in our community is a quality of life. The quality of life is very important, not the quantity We love to welcome people into our community but not too crowded. You know that we are a touristic city so we have a lot of tourists in our city but the quality of life is very important here, also the security, we pay a lot for good security, we have a lot of policemen , a lot of cameras everywhere in our community, and we are a very clean city! We invest a lot to keep it clean, for good security, and the quality of the street, the quality of the buildings, the quality of the activities,
Yes, everyone is welcome to Knokke Heist, every nationality, religion and culture but on one condition! If you come to Knokke Heist, to stay here forever or for one year, 10 years or one week or one day, you have to respect the rules. The only thing I ask is respect the rules of Knokke Heist
What is your vision for Knokke-Heist, Mister Piet?
As you mentioned about Knokke-Heist is the quality, is it your mission or does it already existed before you lead?

Knokke-Heist is also very friendly to the older and children? Ho! It’s about 30 40 years, we are working on it, and it’s not something that happens in one day Even Rome is not made in one day! We’re also looking to the future. What we will do is develop and improve our city to be more green, we will develop beautiful buildings and at the same time we are very very green minded (laugh). If you take the Helicopter and you fly over our community, you will see that our city is very very green and you know it or not, we started planting forests in Knokke Heist So we have Lakeside Paradise, after Lakeside Paradise, we started planting forests and within a few years from now, we will have a second Golf Club I would say, last year, the Ministry of Green in Flanders gave 3 cities in Belgium a green label and Knokke Heist is one of those..

What do you want to say to the Knokke-Heist second residence?

So you have to think about the long term relationship with our Knokke-Heist people and community?
The second resident of Knokke Heist are very important, the average of the second residence, they come to Knokke-Heist about 110 days a year, they pay a lot of money to stay here, they enjoy their quality of life here and happily paying for their quality and valuable time. That is why we have money to pay everythings, the coworkers to keep the community clean and safe, to be able to afford the new buildings, new roads, and so on Knokke Heist has about 33,000 people who live here permanently, and it has about 101,000 people as a second residence, so you see the difference?
As I mentioned earlier, the Beach Bar people are complaining at the beginning, but afterward they see, they feel and they begin to understand and love it If we don’t have apartment on the seaside, that would be no problem to play loud music till midnight, but we have also a lot of people who love to come and enjoy the beauty and the top quality of life in Knokke-Heist, that’s why we need to find a balance and brings harmony to our community Knokke Heist peoples are very proud people, we are proud to call ourselves “Knokke Heist people.” I would say, next year and upcoming year, we will have a difficult and challenging time
Of course, because of the war in Ukraine, a lot of prices will rise, for example: the energy cost, the foods and everything. That will be difficult next year, so we ask the Knokke Heist community to stay strong for a few years, but after that, everything will be just fine, because Knokke Heist people are very proud and very strong. We will overcome these challenges together
Yes, how about the tourists?
Knokke Heist welcomes everyone to our community, but they have to respect the rules I have been living in Knokke Heist for the last 20 years, and I feel honored and am so proud to live here. I do my best to support the community as much as possible.

Each of us knows someone brave and courageous in the past or who has the Courage to take on something new. When you stand up for others or yourself, that takes Courage. It takes Courage just to tell somebody what you think, to trust others, or try new things. It takes Courage to say no, to admit when we are wrong, or to say I am sorry For some, it takes Courage just to get out of bed in the morning, go to school, work, quit a job, or start your own business. Why is that? It is the fear of the unknown As most of us here are entrepreneurs, we must summon Courage daily Fight the fear of the unknown, failure, or making a mistake Are we afraid of saying or doing something new because we fear what others think? It is like this, if we never ask, the answer will always be no. Do you have people around you that encourage you? Do they enable you to be brave and take that next step, or are you on your own? Surrounding ourselves with friends who support us is crucial in building our Courage. One way I have found when facing a new challenge is to make 2 lists What are the positive things, and what are the negative things? Are you courageous?

Do you have the Courage you need? What is Courage? Courage is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation Valor is Courage or bravery, especially in battle *Wikipedia Think of it this way, taking action despite our fears is Courage When we think of Courage, we tend to think of somebody courageous. A hero or someone who faces a challenge A firefighter, police officer, soldier, or someone who faces their fears, a daredevil. Something death defying They are not the only ones courageous, though. All thru history, there have been brave people

But look at that… Email is still around today and stronger than ever People also say that the money is in your list.
