Azulejos • Form of Portuguese painted tile work. • They have been produced without interruption for five centuries. • They are found on the interior and exterior of churches, palaces, ordinary houses and even train stations or subway stations. • They constitute a major aspect of Portuguese architecture as they are applied on walls, floors … • They were not only used as an ornamental art form, but also had a specific functional capacity like temperature control at homes. • Many azulejos chronicle major historical and cultural aspects of Portuguese history.

Fátima comes from Madeira. Since an early age she showed an interest in fashion and during her adolescence, unhappy with what the shops had to offer in terms of clothing, started to design her own clothes. In 1990 Fátima moved to Lisbon, where she believed she could better pursue a career as a fashion designer. With a friend she opened a boutique named "Versos“ and In 1992 the boutique changed its name to "Fátima Lopes" In 1994 , she exhibited her collection in Paris. Two years later she opened her first international store in Paris In December 1998, she started the management of the model agency "FACE MODELS" in Lisbon In 2003 she opened her first brand store in the United States located in Melrose Avenue in the city of Los Angeles.

He lived in great difficulties, from a very meagre pension granted by the king His reputation as a great poet was firmly established and permanently continued to increase after his death. His work was enriched by his sensitivity to both feelings and knowledge, being marked by an imitation of the authors of classical antiquity. Worked in theatre, but he was more recognized for his lyrical poetry (Rimas), using a great variety of different genres: sonnets, songs, eclogues, roundels, etc… His masterpiece is the modern epic poem “Os Lusíadas”, that tells the story of the portuguese people.

Saramago complained about censorship on his book “ O Evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo” and moved to Lanzarote. Saramago was a convict comunist and had problems with some groups, such as the Catholic Church. Saramago was an atheist who defended love as an instrument to improve the human condition. Fado became an immaterial heritage of Humanity in December 2011. The word “fado” means fate. It started to be known in Lisbon and the oldest Fado is “O Fado do Marinheiro” sang by sailors. On the 2nd half of the 20th century, Fado became more artistic and literary. “Fadistas” started singing famous poets and became more famous abroad. Fado was also sung in Coimbra by male students. Painting • Portuguese art was very restricted in the early years of nationality to a few paintings in churches, convents and palaces. • In the 19th century naturalist and realist painters like Columbano, Henrique Pousão and Silva Porto revitalized painting against a decadent academic art. • In the early 20th century Portuguese art increased both in quality and quantity, mainly due to members of the Modernist movement like Amadeo de Souza Cardoso and Almada Negreiros. In the post-war years the abstractionist painter Vieira da Silva settled in Paris and gained widespread recognition as well as Paula Rego.

Theatre • Portugal never developed a great Dramatic theatre tradition due primarily to the fact that the Portuguese were more passionate about lyric or humorous works than dramatic art. • Gil Vicente and Almeida Garrett are two well-known play writers. • In the 20th century theatre in Portugal became more popular with the "Revista" – a comical and satirical form of theatre. • Ruy de Carvalho, Eunice Muñoz, Raúl Solnado, Artur Agostinho, Beatriz Costa, Vasco Santana, Maria João Raposo, José Raposo, Diogo Infante, António Feio, Luís Miguel Cintra are well-known theatre actors. • Almost every repertoire can be seen in Portugal. • Portugal hosts several theatre festivals such as FITEI, ACERT and FIAR.

The entire region is mountainous and crossed by steep valleys. • Many tourists like to have a cruise through the river to see the beautiful landscape. • The International Douro Natural Park is a natural park. • It is a wide area along the Douro River as it makes the border between Portugal and Spain. • The park was created to protect the scenic landscape of the region, as well as its flora and fauna and is a great touristic attraction.
