CALIFORNIA: Upon cancellation of the transportation or travel services, where the passenger is not at fault and has not cancelled in violation of any terms and conditions previously clearly and conspicuously disclosed and agreed to by the passenger, all sums paid to the seller of travel for services not provided will be promptly reimbursed to the passenger unless the passenger otherwise advises the seller of travel in writing, after cancellation. history and impact of a disease that took the lives of over 700,000 people in the U.S.It’s difficult for younger generations to imagine how bad the stigma around HIV/AIDS was back when it first appeared. In a world with PrEP and an increase in representation of HIV positive individuals living long and healthy lives, it’s unfathomable to imagine a time when the general public didn’t know or care about the condition. Heck, the U.S. President at the time, Ronald Regan, famously took YEARS before even acknowledging the epidemic. See their ad in this guide.

LAUDERDALE

Dear Friends,

On behalf of my fellow members of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission and the citizens of our great city, I am pleased to welcome you to the shores of greater Fort Lauderdale!

In this region of South Florida, you’ll find one of the highest concentrations of same-sex households in the country, and we welcome in an average of over 1.3 million LGBTQ+ visitors each year.

We also pride ourselves as an intersection to the world where 120 different languages are spoken, and African American, Caribbean, Afro-Latino, Native American, Central American, and South American-influenced culture and diversity abound.

In Fort Lauderdale, you can be who you are without fear of reproach. The city boasts a stalwart human rights ordinance that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in areas of employment, housing, and public accommodations. This critical legal protection is now stronger than the countywide human rights ordinance. Fort Lauderdale also continues to receive back-to-back perfect scores on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index that rates cities’ performance on key LGBTQ+ issues.

Along with the many LGBTQ+-owned businesses that you will find in this guide, greater Fort Lauderdale is the proud home to the Sunshine Cathedral, “the world’s largest progressive queer church,” which celebrated its 50th birthday last year. We’re also honored to have the Stonewall National Museum and Archives, which is the largest LGBTQ+ circulating library in the United States, and the World AIDS Museum, the only museum dedicated to telling the story of the disease and those affected by it.

I hope you have an enjoyable and memorable time with us in greater Fort Lauderdale. Welcome home!

Yours,

Hollywood is a diverse City that has emerged as a municipal leader for LGBTQ+ equality. The City has partnered with the Hollywood LGBTQ+ Council to host the annual Progressive Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall to raise awareness and support for marginalized communities. The City was the first in the state to fly the Progress Pride flag and display a Pride Youth Tapestry created by local youth on the theme of what Pride means to them. Hollywood continues to demonstrate its commitment to work together toward progress and equity for everyone.

Again this year, the City earned a perfect score of 100 points, plus 9 additional flex points on the annual Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI). The MEI evaluates how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ+ residents and employees. The ratings are based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement, and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.

Hollywood is a great place to live, work, and play, and offers easy access to the best of South Florida while still preserving the hometown charm that makes it unique. With more than six miles of blue wave beaches, a historic oceanfront Broadwalk, and an eclectic downtown with one-of-a-kind restaurants, shops and art galleries, Hollywood truly has something for everyone. Hollywood and its Community Redevelopment Agency recognize that small businesses are the foundation for strong communities and the City is proud to partner with the GFLGLCC to promote the success and growth of business enterprises that share the values of inclusivity and equality of opportunity for all.

Hollywood was founded in 1925 by a visionary leader who wanted to create a dream city by the sea that would be a place for everyone. The future is bright in Hollywood as it strives to be a dream destination for visitors, residents, and business owners and supports efforts to end prejudice, respect the rights of people and celebrate the diversity and richness of our City.

Sincerely,

From waterfront music festivals to boat shows, food and wine fairs, neighborhood art walks, sports and LGBTQ+ specific events.

Greater Fort Lauderdale Events

Greater Fort Lauderdale plays host to a number of events worth traveling for. From waterfront music festivals to boat shows, food and wine fairs, neighborhood art walks, and pro sports games, the Greater Fort Lauderdale events calendar is constantly full.

Throughout the year, you’ll find spectacular annual events like Pride Fort Lauderdale, the state’s oldest Pride celebration, which draws nearly 350,000 visitors to rooftop pool parties, parades, and concerts. In spring, Tortuga Music Festival puts on a three-day concert in the sand at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park to raise money for ocean conservation and research by bringing big-name acts like Tim McGraw and Luke Bryan. Fort Lauderdale beach is also the locale of the annual Fort Lauderdale Air Show, starring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, and in October, the largest in-water boat show in the world, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, brings more than 1,500 boats (including pretty swanky superyachts) to marinas and

waterways around the city. Greater Fort Lauderdale also knows how to turn up the dial and throw memory-making holiday events, like the 4th of July Spectacular on Fort Lauderdale Beach and Las Olas Oceanside Park (complete with bands, a kids zone, and a 23-minute firework show). Perhaps the most anticipated event of the year is a Christmas favorite, the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade, dubbed the “Best Show on H2O.” More than a million viewers tune in to watch decorated boats of all sizes, from megayachts to barges and paddle boards, parade along the 12-mile route. Catch the spectacle in person if you can.

In early January, the weeklong Visit Lauderdale Food & Wine Festival places the county’s top and emerging chefs and restaurateurs on prime display through poolside BBQs, bar competitions, and grand tastings at the beach. And if you’re visiting in the spring, downtown Fort Lauderdale turns into a fourblock street fair helmed by the

city’s best chefs and restaurants during the Las Olas Wine & Food Festival. In addition to eating your way around town, you can also sample a selection of more than 100 wines from international wineries while dancing to live music and DJs.

In summer, post up on the sand in Oakland Park for free, familyfriendly concerts and food trucks, or enjoy weekend live music along the Broadwalk in Hollywood, where movie night takes place on Fridays at ArtsPark at Young Circle. Friday Night Sound Waves brings free music, a makers market, and food vendors to Fort

Lauderdale Beach every Friday, while the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood attracts some of the hottest events in town year-round, including bigname acts like standup comedian Amy Schumer, Alicia Keys, Green Day, and Bruce Springsteen.

Sports are just as much a fabric of Greater Fort Lauderdale as the beaches. Snag front-row seats to both Division 1 college teams as well as the pros like the Florida Panthers ice hockey team, who play from October through April at the FLA Live Arena, which doubles as a concert venue for some of the biggest shows in South Florida.
