Community Development Committee

The Community Development Committee’s goal is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Cook County. This committee plans events through out the year that promotes the local businesses and provides family entertainment for our community. Some of the events hosted by Community Development are listed below:

The Annual Banquet is held annually at Cook Middle School. The preparations for the banquet are orchestrated by this committee with assistance from other working Chamber committees. Local businesses and individuals are recognized for their outstanding achievements during the year. This popular event is open to members and nonmembers who are interested in learning more about the Chamber and our various community projects. The Adel Daylily Festival takes place each year on the 3rd weekend in May. This event brings several thousand people into our community. Our citizens have the opportunity to spend a day enjoying live entertainment, participating in the free kid zone play area, shopping for specialized craft items and sampling the many food items available on that day. The Daylily 5K continues to grow each year and welcomes close to 100 runners from all over South Georgia. One of the newest events to the Festival is the “Cutest Pet Contest” which raises money for local pet adoption and neutering initiatives.

In 2019, the Chamber partnered with several local organizations and businesses to host a week long “Christmas In Cook” event the first week in December. Sharon Harnage

It was kicked off by the Downtown Development Authority by observing the national “Small Business Saturday” event the Saturday after Thanksgiving which included Cookies with Santa. The Chamber sponsored the “Deck Your Business” store front decorating contest amongst business owners in Cook County and announced the winner, Quick Consulting, at the Christmas Parade. Other activities included Depot Festival of Trees, Fine Arts Extravaganza featuring all types of art by students in the Cook County School System, “Christmas at the Movies” themed Parade, Live Nativity, Carriage Rides, Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting, Snow Fest Super Slide, and Entertainment. The Committee also coordinates with Cook High School’s Coral and Band departments to perform at local assisted living and nursing homes.

The Community Development Committee welcomes ideas from our residents and business owners and looks forward to growing these events in 2020.
