Says Hi Maybe it’s because I’m an ENFP (Extravert Intuitive Feeling Perceptive) that I view feelings as major part of any experience I go through. If something feels good to me, I’m up for it; even if it defies all logic. Actually all people with the Feeling (F) trait in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator have this tendency to follow their hearts as to which way to go. However, I think all personality types even the Sensing, Thinking Judgmentals find it significant to come at something that stirs the ‘feel good’ perks inside of them. Feeling good is all about learning the Art of Happiness. It’s a well-balanced combination of love, labor, and luck. Some find it in beauty, some find it fitness, and some find it in a luxury getaway. And some manage to get that feel-good buzz from a simple get-together with a dear friend! So we’re taking you in this lively issue of Magnificent on a high-spirted journey to explore the ingredients of a life full of vim and vigor. We’ll cover it all! The tingle in your heart when you set your eyes on the ONE. The rush in your muscles after a passionate workout. The sense of pride for landing the dream job. Even the delicacy of fine dining can form an exceptional feel-good moment to some person. Now, no more chatter, it’s time to buckle up for our flight to could 9. May the world be always your oyster! À la vôtre!

addressing the dire needs of the Egyptian society, and offering university curriculum electronically to blind and visually impaired students to decrease their dependency on others. This is in addition to benefiting from the potentials and capabilities of these students with IT experience and qualifying them for the job market.

The project had a leading experience at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University through qualifying 35 visually impaired students for the electronic exam in 2015-2016. Field training was conducted for visually impaired students of the faculty according to the university’s code of conduct which states that students have to complete 60 hours of field training before graduating. The library prepared 35 computers at the faculty labs with operating systems and special programs for the visually impaired in 2 special labs before starting the field training.

On this occasion, Eng. Ashraf Halim, Chief Commercial Officer, Orange Egypt, expressed his optimism regarding the project by saying, “Orange Egypt will continue to collaborate with DAESN through the digital education initiative which focuses on providing

educational curricula and scientific references needed for scientific research in a readable manner and training the visually impaired on communication and computer skills which would guarantee them job opportunities after graduating and integrate them in the society.” “Since 2011, Orange Egypt and DSESN managed to support more than 240 blind and visually impaired people from the youth and offered them job vacancies in different companies,” he added.

Mrs. Lilly Attallah CEO of DAESN said, “An online radio channel has also been launched on the e-library in collaboration with Orange Egypt to broadcast programs that cover the visually impaired students’ interests and raise the society’s awareness of their rights and duties through labs equipped with the latest devices and technologies. The channel is run by a highly-qualified team on both the managerial and technical levels to manage the project and guarantee the quality of services rendered.

At the close of the ceremony, commemorative certificates were distributed among the students who passed the training course during the two semesters 2015-2016.

Feel-good

Treasures!

By Sue Ryan

What can be a source of infinite pleasure more than a spot with water as part of the landscape where you can just relax or indulge in some water activities that

benefit the body, clear the mind and bring soul contentment. As we’re having a piece in “Body, Mind & Soul” section on Water Wellness, I wanted to introduce you to some feel-good locations that feature water. Many of these are resort hotels, so they also offer a selection of spa services. But each one has an additional attraction unique to its location; something that you won’t find at your local hotel no matter how many stars it has.

International

M

any people have a fear of sharks, rays and even smaller marine creatures. Most sharks are not dangerous! In fact, people kill hundreds of thousands more sharks a year than the number of people harmed by sharks. Falling coconuts actually kill more people per year than sharks do! Nevertheless, we see pictures of coconut palms in tropical resorts on much holiday advertising!! Like so many of our fears, the fear of sharks and rays is not logical.

Sea and Marine Life Experiences

So whether you already understand this and like sharks, or you just want to get over your fear of them; I’m quite sure you’d be interested in learning about those places where you can get close to sharks and rays, and even swim with them. 18

The Maldives

HOT SPOTS

It’s of course on the list of many people as a great water wellness destination, and at Jumeirah Vittaveli Resort; these too often misunderstood creatures come into the shallows, right to the edge of the water. Healing your anxiety or fear of them is a big step in making you feel more adventurous about exploring coral reefs anywhere, including Egypt’s superb reefs in the Red Sea. The resort offers a choice of beach or over-water villas, in a setting that can only be described as heavenly. The Talise Spa offers full spa services including in-villa therapies and yoga, with a holistic approach to wellbeing that reconnects you with nature. It also has special romantic spaces for couples. https://www.jumeirah.com/en/hotelsresorts/maldives/jumeirah-vittaveli/

Sheraton Kona–Hawaii It’s where you can enjoy walks or bike rides, take your first surfing lesson, or get pampered with their spa services. But the highlight of the place is the chance to snorkel or dive with manta rays. A night dive with mantas is definitely on my Wish List! Non-divers can watch these magnificent creatures, most evenings, from the lanai (balcony) of ocean-front guest rooms or from a special viewing zone. A complimentary presentation about the manta rays is organized for resort guests and the public in the area’s Manta Learning Center. http://www.sheratonkona.com/resort-experiences/manta-rayviewing-and-experience/

Australia, beach pools Growing up in Australia, beach pools were one of my treasured experiences. Many of Sydney’s beaches are sublime enough in themselves; but at some beaches, large swimming pools were added to provide calm water separate from the often high and rough waves you’d experience in the surf. Growing up with these pools made it difficult for me to understand why people would enjoy swimming in a chlorinated pool. Just give me a sea pool with its natural water and ocean views any day! If you follow Hirsty at https://instagram.com/hirstyphotos/ or https://www.facebook.com/HirstyPhotos/ you will often see posts of the most beautiful sunrises or sunsets at one of these pools. The best ocean baths to try? Bondi Icebergs! Take a ferry from the city to Manly Beach and visit Queenscliff Rockpool, or head further out of the city to Narrabeen, Bilgola or The Entrance. North Sydney Olympic Pool, which is not really an ocean pool, sits close to the water and the amazing view of the Harbour Bridge making it an equally astounding water-wellness destination. While I love the sea and beach, waterfalls and pools in spectacular settings also appeal to me as water-wellness destinations. Among the many places I dream of soaking and splashing about or just soaking up the scenery within is

The Hanging Gardens of Bali INDONESIA

The setting of The Hanging Gardens alone will have you feeling great. The resort is on the edge of a valley overlooking the Ayung River and ancient Dalem Segara temple, and is surrounded by rain forests and rice terraces. The villas are designed to be in harmony with nature and the gardens overflow with cocoa and coffee trees, bamboo, flame trees and orchids. The Spa combines natural, local ingredients and ancient techniques. The Royal Spa Suite is an exclusive area located by the river where you are surrounded by the natural sounds of the jungle. Overnight stays can be arranged there for a romantic escape, but it is the tiered, cascading pool that will really win you over. It is simply stunning! http://hanginggardensofbali.com/ 20

Cenotes or sinkholes, were once sacred places. Today, they’re places of rest and meditation that also offer new challenges for scuba divers. Known as the Sacred Blue Cenote, Ik-Kil is less than 2 miles from the fascinating ruins of Chichen Itza. It is a round welltype cenote with hanging vines and waterfalls. After exploring the ruins, this is the perfect place to cool down. The open cenote is about 85 feet from the surface with a stairway leading you down to the water. Access is safe and easy, and floating there is an experience not to be missed.

Coral Coast Hotel,

Dahab The hotel overlooks the Red Sea and has you in the center of Dahab’s café and shopping area in a 10-minute stroll. The philosophy there is that exercise can be part of your holiday, and it comes in many different natures. There is a weekly schedule, if you’d like to drop in and try a class just for one day. Or you can kick-start your fitness routine by joining one of the weekend or week-long programs. You’ll then receive a tailored program that suits your requirements and be guided by professional and experienced teachers and therapists. Activities include yoga (Kundalini or Iyenger, and yoga for kids), qi gong, zumba, body sculpt, salsa, hip hop, belly dance, and even sword fight dance (non-contact sword fighting that strengthens your focus and concentration) Coral Coast also offers many therapies, with professionally qualified masseuses. Try Swedish Deep Tissue Massage, Reiki, Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage, and Indian Head and Facial Rejuvenation Massage. Traditional Egyptian and Sudanese Beauty Treatments, like Hofra Smoke Sauna, Sesame Oil Massage, Hair Treatment, Hair Removal and Henna Tattoos, are also available. The hotel restaurant features healthy and nutritionally loaded menus, so your fitness efforts won’t disappear when you take a break to eat. Being located right on the sea means swimming, snorkeling and diving can be added to your holiday fitness schedule! http:// coralcoasthotel.com/wellness/fitness/

Joie De Vivre

By Mary Nour

Most of us have been Liz in Eat, Pray, Love. We have all experienced this heartwrenching feeling. These still moments when everyone is asleep and we have to face ourselves. We have had our crying episodes on the bathroom floor just like she did. And as we saw Liz’s moments of insight and her experience of finding closure, we wished we’d have moments like these of our own. So let me introduce you to the mechanism Liz used to reach such a state of balance. It’s called Catharsis! The term Catharsis originates from the Greek ‘katharsis’ meaning “purification” or “cleansing.” The term is used in therapy as well as in literature. Catharsis, in literature, describes an emotional moment that leads to positive change in a person’s life. A cathartic moment might bring a sense of peace to an individual going through divorce, death of a loved one, health crisis or job loss. It helps that person conquer the bad experience and move past the disturbing repercussions.

In fact, Eat, Pray, Love isn’t the only movie discussing the power of catharsis. Wild, a screenplay by Nick Hornby is based on Cheryl Strayed’s 2012 memoir: Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. The movie tackles the issue of recent divorcée (Reese Witherspoon) who leaves Minneapolis, Minnesota for a hiking and camping experience that ends up to be a journey of self-discovery and healing.

Catharsis takes many forms starting from reading a book you love to hiking, camping and travelling the world! All forms come with outstanding benefits.

If you are more of an outdoorsy and you are a bit unsure about the perks of catharsis, we definitely recommend a camping experience.

And here›s what

22

Magnificent

CAMPING is bringing to the table of Catharsis!

Skyrocket Your Serotonin Levels

You know that feeling of happiness you get when you breathe in fresh air; it’s actually a release of serotonin from the extra oxygen. Spending time near trees, you take in more oxygen; and your body can function with less strain when there’s plenty of oxygen. That’s not the only benefit of fresh air! Research shows that some time outdoors can improve your blood pressure, enhace digestion and give your immune system an extra boost. When you spend a few days outside, you get some serious health benefits from the extra oxygen and low levels of pollutants.

Foster Quality Bonding

Camping alone is plenty of fun; but if you bring along a friend or family member, you’ll enjoy a unique experience together that will positively strengthen your bond. Socializing can extend your lifespan and delay memory problems according to research published in the American Journal of Public Health. Apart from the medical benefits, a few close relationships make life more fun. So make sure to invite a few friends on your next trip out.

Even Out Your Chemicals

Melatonin is a chemical that makes you feel tired and induces feelings of depression. Spending some time outside in the sunlight will even out the levels of melatonin in your brain. You will most often find regular campers talking about how the first few days back from a trip are the happiest. Camping helps you enjoy overall better moods. It lifts your spirits and contributes to a general sense of well-being.

Say Hello to a Stress-Free Era

Stress management, stress reduction and stress control are things we all crave. We are greatly in need for them in our lives since stress negatively affects health in just about every way possible. Camping allows you to give yourself some stress-free time by putting less pressure on your mental and physical faculties. The rise in oxygen levels, higher levels of serotonin and managed levels of melatonin (mentioned above) ensure lower stress levels. So whenever you feel worked up about something, plan for a camp.

Work Out Those Muscles

The most obvious benefit of camping is the fact that you’re spending a lot of time performing physical activities. Hiking and biking are cardiovascular exercises that will keep your heart and lungs at their best. Activity levels might vary, but hikers burn somewhere between 120-300 calories per hour; and it’s 300-500 calories per hour for bikers!

Sleep Like You’ve Never Slept Before After a day full of outdoor activities, you’ll fall fast asleep. And there is nothing better than sleeping surrounded by Mother Nature! Sleep has positive effects on all body functions. It improves cardiovascular system and helps you stay alert and refreshed. Many campers report better sleep cycles when they return from a trip. It’s like nature have set their biological clock right back to place.

A Call for Challenge

According to researches, new experiences help keep brains healthy. New activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating have the greatest effects on brain health, and camping fits both criteria.

Keep Calm and Meditate

When you go camping, it’s imperative to disconnect to enjoy the simplicity of the natural experience. Turning off your cell phone and engaging with nature is one of the simplest ways to get the health benefits of meditation. Meditation can improve a number of serious medical conditions. If you suffer from depression, fatigue, high blood pressure, heart disease or anxiety attacks; research shows that camping promotes your overall health. Meditation also provides anxiety reduction, emotional stability, development of intuition and peace of mind. So don’t forget to turn everything off and meditate; you wouldn’t want to miss all the benefits.

We probed “Ibn Batuta of the 21st century” nicknamed “Haggagovic” (which means “Haggag the victorious” in Russian) about the joys of his mission as an “extraordinary ambassador” for Egypt raising the Egyptian flag in 132 countries around the world (more than the countries documented by founder of National Geographic itself). He communicated his worldwide experience to us while he was pursuing his passion as a globe wanderer from Wales, UK.

When did you discover your passion for travel?

My passion for traveling was clear maybe at the age of four years old. They asked me in a TV show for kids (airing from Heliopolis Club) about the thing I wanna do when I grow up, and my instant answer was to visit every country in the world until I reach Japan; which was the farthest country in the world in my mind these days. :)

How did this thirst for wandering the globe come about?

I got it from my grandfather who was always eager to travel to every country out there. He was a Major General in the military and he used to take holidays from the Minister of Defense just to travel. I got this yearning to tour the world from him.

How do you manage to keep yourself motivated?

I manage to keep myself motivated by my cravings, my dreams and my restless mind. I desire to be one of the greatest! And now thank god I am the most unique traveler of all time in Egypt.

What’s your ultimate travelling goal?

I’m on my way to travelling to every country in the world. And not just travelling, as tons of people are traveling but with no message. I am quite different. I am traveling to share every moment, every experience, everything I see with people. I do this on my weekly TV show, and on my pages on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. I am videotaping everything, taking pictures of everything, and I’m faking nothing. I want people to see because seeing is believing.

Your definition of a Life Extraordinaire?!

I feel like I’m living an extraordinary life. Most people are the sons of normal but I am not. Thank God I lead an exceptional life that I’m very proud of. 24

What is the best advice you have ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever received was from my dad. He advised me not to be arrogant and to never ever be away from God. Life is too short and it is ultimately about the stories people would share about you when you pass away.

What is the thing you would like to change about the world? I would like to break all kinds of stereotypes. Lots of people are not travelling to certain countries because of some stereotypes; some foolish things they hear or read on the internet that have nothing to do with real life. The world is vastly different from what people hear. They have to see it. That’s why I am trying to let people see the world through my eyes. If you see the real world, you’ll be more peaceful and forgiving to whatever comes your way.

Piece of advice for people out there who don’t have the courage to pursue their passions? I tell them to dream big. Life is short, so they have to fight for their dreams. They have to go wild and powerful as they can. Life is not easy at all. It will hit them to the ground and they gotta have the courage to get up again.

The feel-good factor about traveling around the world?

I love to share my passion, my knowledge and my travels with everyone. I want people to see the world through me! Egyptians would enjoy seeing more about Australia. Australians want to know more about Brazil. Brazilians desire to learn more about the United States. So I am trying to go to every country in the world just to share my experience with everyone.

The relaxation technique that gets your Zen on?

I never relax. I think I will relax when I stop living! As long as I have a heart beating and mind thinking and I am breathing, I’ll fight more and more for my dreams; for them to come true Inshallah.

The top feel-good moment in your journey?

Having my own TV show ‘Safari Hagaggovic’ aired weekly on ONTV Egypt is a significant milestone in my journey. Actually, I think it’s a great gift from God that I can share my trips and my videos with millions of TV viewers! Being invited to the Noble Peace Prize ceremony in Norway, this year, by his Majesty King of Norway is also an incredible moment; specially that I’m the youngest person attending the ceremony there. The icing on the cake is being invited by Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of United Nation to join the opening ceremony of the International Day of Peace at the UN in New York.

Zen Island

How does it feel to have all your dreams come true?

I never had all my dreams come true because I am always dreaming more and more. It is a great feeling to achieve some dream; but to really feel good, you have to dream big. So when the big dream comes true; you feel great, you feel alive, you thank God!

Can you put a price tag on happiness?

When a person achieves something outstanding that gives them goosebumps, this is true happiness. It is priceless!

What puts you in a good mood?

Appreciation. The ‘thank you’ word is an amazing thing. Also the love I see in the eyes of my friends and fans.

What puts a huge smile on your face?

Children. Whatever the place is: Africa, Asia, Europe or anywhere; it’s the best feeling when a child just smiles to me or tries to play with me.

What life experiences do you want to have next? Having a family and being a dad to some lovely kids with whom I’d share the beautiful moments of my life.

Out & About My Joie-De-Vivre moto is… Dream. Believe. Go. Things I barely go out without… My Egyptian flag which is quite famous now for bearing signatures of worldwide ambassadors, presidents and leaders. My all-time role model … Any one successful is my role model. Mohamed Ali , Sylvester Stallone, Cristiano Ronaldo are all role models to me. If I weren’t a globe trotter, I would be… also a globe trotter. Believe it or not but this is the only thing I would be, as travel is my most ultimate passion! Life will be happier if … people open their hearts to each other. If they let go of the boundaries between religions, backgrounds and colors.

The Well-Being of

TRAVEL! By Hagar Mohamed

8 Reasons

Why Traveling is The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself‌ Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with everything around you that you needed nothing but an escape? A break from all the work pressures, traffic jams, family needs and social commitments! Family and work obligations are undoubtedly top on our priority list, however, a peaceful retreat, even every once in a while, should be a must on our to-do list. And what a better escape from daily life pressures than traveling! I personally believe that everyone gotta have travel as their prime escape plan, and here are the reasons why!

1

You need to spend money on experiences and memories, not just on things!

They say money can’t buy happiness; but it can buy airline tickets, and that’s pretty much the same thing! Do not underestimate the value of experiences and memories in comparison to things. No matter how elegant, attractive or tempting an item is to buy; nothing gives the human soul satisfaction like seeing a new place or mingling with nature in a marvelous spot where you realize that some places are even more beautiful than the photos you see of them online! 26

Magnificent

2

Sometimes you need to meet new people and talk to strangers.

You always have a big chance of meeting new people while touring, especially if you are traveling solo. Mingling with absolute strangers is an experience that pushes people to selfrealization. Socializing with people from different cultures is a situation in which you can be 100% yourself, which by time makes you more aware of who you really are. We all struggle to figure that out in some phases of our life.

3

Travel is the solution to decision-making struggles!

Which airline carrier is best for the trip? A hotel or a hostel? Bus or train? How many days in each city? Never-ending questions that need quick answers. And with every answer you come to, your decision making skills take a step forward! By time, you become quite the expert on traveling and life decisions as well!

4 To travel is to heal!

5

6 Need to meditate? Travel!

7

There’s a strong healing power in getting on an airplane and crossing borders. Waking up in a beautiful city that you haven’t been to before can take your mind of anything that has been bothering you. Moreover, it gives you a feeling that your problems aren’t the center of the universe, and are by no means the end of the world, since there’s still so much to see and so many spots to go to. The world is much bigger than we know, and whatever is troubling you is just a grain of sand to this huge universe.

Spending money on traveling makes you richer

You can’t put a price tag on the experiences you gain, the skills you develop, or the situations you get to learn from while you’re exploring a new country/city. Being introduced to other cultures and religions, seeing how other nations work, gaining good habits and losing bad ones; what better fortune would you like to make?!

If you are having troubles with meditation in your stressful surroundings, traveling is an excellent opportunity for relaxation and contemplation. Pick a peaceful, slow-pace destination where you can connect with Mother Nature. Search for meditation activities or simply take yourself to a calm spot by the lake or in the mountains. Close your eyes and listen to the calmness of nature. There’s no better opportunity to meditate than this!

Traveling is a creativity booster!

Daily routines can be real creativity killers. Waking up at the same time, driving the same car, heading to the same destination, sitting on the same desk, and talking to the same people every day create that comfort zone of yours. And as the saying goes; a comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there! You have to step out of your comfort zone, every once in a while, and put yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. You will return with a fresh mindset and gain lots of ideas from the unfamiliar environment you would create. Traveling is truly my number-one innovation and creativity booster!

8 Travel to become a better person!

Yes! Traveling improves your personality. It makes you a better person. The more you travel, the more open-minded and the less judgmental you become; which makes you a more mature human being. Traveling also helps you develop your very own selfsatisfaction. The more you visit new places, the more interesting life becomes to you; making you more satisfied with who you are and where you’re going in life.

Always remember, it is important to be present where you are needed. But it is also important to be present where you need to be.

Cure! By Amal Hejazi

“One word frees us from all the weight and pain of life; this word is Love.” Sophocles

Five years ago, my aunt passed away! She was my second mum, my role model and my guidance in life. Losing her was such a shock. It wasn’t easy at all to get used to not finding her around anymore. I spent days and nights crying and trying to pull myself together. The only thing that managed to rescue me from despair and agony was “Love”! Yes, I might had lost her love, but the love of my family and my partner did really save the day, or let’s say, saved me!

The Healing Power of Love! We all need to love and be loved! It’s essential for our survival. Love is the deepest, most profound experience and the ultimate source of fulfillment in our lives. There is nothing more satisfying and affirming than the act of loving and being loved in return. Love is vital for our physical, mental and spiritual well-being! It’s definitely the ultimate source of healing. 28

Let’s begin with the most precious love on earth.

The one you experienced when you came to life; opening your little eyes and seeing that tender face of your mother. She introduced you to the most genuine sort of love; the unconditional one! In every single touch, in every word she uttered, in everything she did; you got to feel this pure, sincere affection. It was your life’s first lesson and you’d keep practicing all along the journey.

The Different Senses of Love

Love

Joie De Vivre

is more than just a feeling.

It is a whole body experience and it has a physiological effect on the body. Have you ever noticed how much better you feel physically and how your mood improves when you receive forms of affection from the people you love, or when you have expressed your love to someone or participated in an act of love? I can’t forget the day I got terribly sick and had to be hospitalized for weeks. I never felt so much vulnerable, disappointed and helpless in my life. The things that I used to do, suddenly became beyond my powers. The people I used to see every day were out of my reach and the taste of life had completely become as bitter as the medicine I took. And again the cure was pure love! The care I received from my friends and family was tremendous. You’d never realize the amount of love in the hearts of your beloved ones until you truly see it out in the open shining through hard times and tough experiences.

e v o L f o n o i t c e t o r The P Love actually improves our level of health. It boosts the immune system and the feel-good neurotransmitters in our brain that control our mood, outlook on life and feelings of well-being. I have witnessed this truth in my own life over and over again. First when I met my partner, then when I became a mom. When you find your other perfect half, your soul mate and the love of your life; you see life from a totally different view. That’s what I exactly experienced and what I want to share with you. I was fortunate enough to experience a profound, soultouching relationship with my partner. Day after day life used to offer something new, something happy, something that is a reflection of pure love. Life looked different in all aspects. His love managed to change me. Yes, love has the power to change! I feel stronger with him next to me, secured with his heart devoted to mine and very much pretty as I see my reflection in his eyes. As falling in love makes you feel happier and more alive, you’ll pay more attention to the beautiful things around you and you’ll literally feel like you are walking on clouds!

Scientifically Speaking!

In his book ‘Love and Survival: Eight Pathways to Intimacy and Health’, Dean Ornish describes one study where married men who were suffering from angina (chest pains) experienced far less pains when they felt love from their wives; even despite high-risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

Love decreases inflammation,

improves immune system, and can be a potent pain reliever.

A recent study from the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research at Ohio State University, College of Medicine showed that people who are lonely develop more reactivation of latent viruses than those who are well-connected. Possible mechanisms of loving actions include increased release of cytokines, better relaxation and the release of endorphins. I guess this’s the scientific explanation of how I was cured with love.

Love is a great antidote to stress. Love counteracts the fight-or-flight response that we so often find ourselves victims to. Even low levels of stress cause the body to release cortisol, which is associated with an increased risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and depression. Love down-regulates the production of cortisol. Love encourages your body to produce oxytocin, the “feel-good” or “love” hormone. Oxytocin can reduce cardiovascular stress and improve the immune system, which in turn decreases cell death and inflammation. Love also causes the production of norepinephrine and dopamine in your brain (both hormones associated with adrenaline) which leads to increased feelings of joy and pleasure. Where would you find a better medicine?

Love improves your self-esteem. Self-love is the key because when you love yourself, you are much more likely to engage in activities that contribute to better nutrition and physical fitness, and less likely to make unhealthy life choices. That leads us to another very important side of love that we should never neglect nor forget. It’s Self-Love! You have to be kind to yourself, pamper yourself and take care of yourself; as if you’re in love with yourself. The more you experience self-love, the better you get at loving others. And the more love you give, the more love you’ll receive!

“Love is the cure,

for your pain will keep giving birth to more pain until your eyes constantly exhale love as effortlessly as your body yields its scent.” Rumi 30

Time heals all wounds, they say. But sometimes the wound is so deep and the pain is so unbearable! It happens sometimes that time can be harsh on you; it can be your constant reminder of your broken heart, but life has to move on! You might be broken but that’s ok. You don’t need to do anything you’re not ready to do. don’t listen to anyone who tells you to be something you’re not. All you need to do is just learn to live with it. Here are some tips to ease on the healing road…

Get Social

I get it. It’s easier to be alone sometimes! But you need people around so as to have less time alone with your head. People judge all the time and try to tell you what to do? Fine, you don’t have to talk about anything that makes you feel bad. Surround yourself with those friends who would really be there when you collapse and never judge you. You should be looking for those who will be honest with you, trust in your choices, give you room to breathe and vent, and even a shoulder to cry on.

You might also wanna try joining events: book clubs, hobbies, activities, or a support group. Get to know new people, meet strangers and widen your circle. It works like magic, trust me.

Get to Know Yourself More

Pay It Forward

Think of yourself as someone else, do you know that person? Would you like to be friends with you? Do you know what makes you angry, what interests you? Do you know your limitations? Do you know what it takes to make you happy? If the answer is no, then set your priorities straight. In order to take your first steps towards happiness and success, you will need to know and LOVE that person first! Discover yourself and find those things that you’re really passionate about. Then, find ways to make small tangible achievements towards pursuing your passions.

Help someone in need. Dedicate your time to actually doing something valuable. If you have the time, you can always volunteer. Take a step forward in a big project, a small portion of your time that might change someone else’s life.

Knowing yourself is not easy; it needs time, effort and also courage. In order to be able to achieve that, you would need to: go through many experiences (try new hobbies, new classes, new activities, travel, etc), master contemplation (maybe it’s time to start keeping a journal), and find an honest friend (or a family member).

Joie De Vivre

You can also give a class in something you’re good at, or write something useful, some tips, maybe a tutorial or an article that would help someone who might be lost.

You are Complete Many of us fall for the trap of believing that finding “The One” is the solution to all their problems, or that it’ll make them feel less lonely. Finding your other half can be really helpful but something important needs to be established first, which is finding your own self. You can’t find the right person for you, if you don’t know anything about yourself: your interests, your shortcomings and your values. When you rush into a relationship, it might feel like you’re healing a wound; but you also can risk breaking yourself beyond repair.

Instead of looking for a person to complete you, find a person to complement your picture. Find the one who would be the perfect support to what you have in mind for yourself. Find that person who would make life bearable, rather than heal you. In fact, no one can actually heal you. They can just love you, they can give you reasons to live, and support you to achieve your plans and make life the way you think is best for you.

Be Your Own Therapist Be mindful of what’s going on with you. Don’t be afraid to face the truth! Keeping a journal might help, so as contemplating your own moods and reactions. Yes; you might be depressed, having traumas and bad days, and no one would ever imagine the pain you’re going through. But be gentle and easy on yourself. Let yourself cry and give yourself a break. And finally let yourself feel and learn the person that you are from inside out.

ART ‘Positive Vibes’ By Sally Mahmoud

HO ME @ Your

Do you know that some houses have bad energy? Have you considered the idea of “changing the energy of your place”?

I

know, that might seem a bit weird and out of reach. But there is the fact that energy is everywhere and everything around us is made up of energy. Science proves that energy is neither created nor destroyed. However, to attract positive things in your life,

you have to start by giving off positive energy.

N

o matter what kind of vibe it’s in your place, change can attract good vibrations. Don’t

worry, you don’t need to turn your home upside down to welcome new energy. Just by making some changes to the space around; you can add harmony, beauty and peace to your surroundings.

I

n this article, we will try to attract good vibes through the senses: sight, sound and smell; so whether you are having a new home or want to change the energy of your old one, you are invited to keep going through this.

Here are our ideas to add zest to your place!

Opt for Vibrant COLORS T

rends come and go, but choosing the right color that reflects your preferences and personality is what really counts. Colors bring different energy to the space influencing our moods and thoughts. The reaction to a certain color differs from one person to the other; so you should choose what feels right for you. However, you gotta keep in mind that each color has a psychological value that ranges from tranquility to rage.

Red welcomes prosperity and adds warmth and love to the place. It can be especially nice in the meeting areas of your home, but too much can invite anger.

is a healing and nurturing color, but overdoing green can induce laziness.

Blue

Green

Mag DĂŠcor

is calming and peaceful, but too much blue may attract depressive energy.

White brings positive energy to the home, but many whites can be overstimulating.

Orange gives warmth and enthusiasm, but too much may cause restlessness.

Black can absorb negative energy but make sure to offset it with plenty of bright colors.

A

s we all are psychologically programmed to move toward light, lighting is probably the most important element to create the right mood. Good lighting adds warmth and personality to any place. And one of the simplest ways to brighten your house, at no cost, is windows; as they add a distinctive inviting ambience. Open your windows every morning for a few minutes to have sunlight in. Sunlight is known to be a source of high natural vibrational energy that helps in refreshing the air and increasing oxygen levels inside the house, thus improving your health and making you feel more energized.

T

o achieve optimal lighting at your house, you can use built-in lights as an excellent complement to lamps. Make sure that gathering spaces are well-lit; creating an inviting and welcoming environment. Customize your home lighting system and don’t forget about halls, kitchen counters and closets as they should have proper lighting as well. Learn that home lighting can positively stimulate your emotional side and help provide an aura of calm.

Mix and Match Colors until you find the ones that speak to you. Put into consideration that too many colors can make a room look busy or cluttered, so limit the number of colors in a room to no more than three!

ssigning a space in your home for relaxation, like a corner or a room where you can mediate and rejoice, is of great importance. You can add gemstones and crystals to this space or to the house in general, as they are well-known for absorbing vibrations of negative energy. Be sure to regularly clean and charge the crystals. WELCOME TO THE WORLD

OF FENG SHUI..

Compendium with

Master Practitioner Consultant

Dr. Soha Eid

“It is easier to be happy when you are not surrounded by the confusion and the clutter of life.” - David Baird

Fate and luck — are beyond our control. But the possibility to take the advantage of your strengths while minimizing your weaknesses is still there. You ask HOW?! We got some insight from the first Egyptian with an International Certificate in Feng Shui; Dr. Soha Eid on the what’s, how’s and why’s of the ancient Chinese practice.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui — which literally translates to “wind and water” — is an ancient Chinese art of placement. It’s used to enhance the flow of chi (life force or spiritual energy) and create harmonious environments that support health, wealth and happiness. Feng Shui is a combination of intuitive psychology, numerology and superstition. At its most basic level, Feng Shui is a decorating discipline based on the belief that our surroundings affect us.

When did Feng Shui came about?

The practice of Feng Shui was developed in China over a 4,000-year period. Initially, people wanted to come up with principles that secure their homes—and more importantly their tombs! They wanted them placed in locations offering shelter from winter storms, floods and blazing heat. And Feng Shui offered them the harmonious flow of energy they needed.

How did you discover your passion for energy healing, and why particularly Feng Shui?

It started 12 years ago with my Korean friend who told me about a traditional practice of her grands that they used for cleansing bad energy. She was talking about Feng Shui, and I was surprised by the name as I thought it’s some sort of martial art like Karate or Taekwondo. I found it very interesting and somehow related to old practices of our grandparents like cleaning the floor with sea salt to get rid of bad energy and closing bathroom doors and seeing them as negative rooms in the house. I realized that Feng Shui is like math. Anyone can learn it. And hence I started studying it.

How does Feng Shui work?

Feng Shui doesn’t need you to believe or even be aware of it for it to work. But you gotta always keep in mind that although it can be very effective; it’s not a guarantee for greatest wealth, health and happiness. There are no books or websites that explain the Feng Shui practice in detail or elaborate on the advance uses of the concept. Most of them teach you a certain method, but it does not give you the secret usage of the technique. 38

Do you live by the rules of Feng Shui?

Of course I do. When I started studying Feng Shui, all my concern was to learn how to Feng Shui my house. I practiced the rules I learned on my small community and I was surprised that it worked to a T. After finishing my studies in Hong Kong and Singapore, I found out that I am the first Arab to receive Feng Shui license from the International Feng Shui Association worldwide. I feel lucky for that as you cannot practice Feng Shui consultation without that license.

Are there limitations to the practice of Feng Shui?

Absolutely not! Feng Shui rules does apply to everything. Even large corporations like Microsoft and HSBC have applied Feng Shui to create harmonious workplaces and increase productivity. Famous believers like Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey have made the concept popular all over the world.

What are architectural guidelines of energy according to Feng Shui? There are some guidelines that architects should take into consideration when illustrating the outline of a new construction, the most important are: 1- Areas of rest should be kept separate from areas of work. Physical and/or psychological design elements should be strategically located to separate them. 2- The quality of the entry door determines the quality of the energy entering the place. The doors should be solid, and the front door should become a feature of the place by using a bright color (red seems to be preferable). 3- It’s important to promote natural ventilation and an abundance of daylight inside the house. Floor-to-ceiling windows maintain maximum amount of natural daylight, and operable windows in the right locations allow for excellent natural ventilation. 4- The center of the place should be empty to let the energy circulate properly. 5- The front entry should be clean, creative and well-maintained. And the number of the building should be clearly visible. 6- It’s vital to consider shape and scale. Contrary to popular belief, Feng Shui doesn’t exclusively favor elements with rounded edges. In fact, a variety of shapes are the best bet for achieving a well-balanced spot.

What’s Feng Shui best tip for prosperity?

In Feng Shui, the South-East sector is the wealth sector and it can be activated by good luck charms and Feng Shui cures. Adding the element of wood (e.g. a jade plant) or a symbol of wealth (e.g. three Chinese coins tied together with a red ribbon) help stimulating the prosperity factor.

Finally, we asked Dr. Soha Eid to enlighten us with some Feng Shui tips easy for anyone to apply, and here are her top 10 most favorites:

Declutter Your Home

As Chi energy stagnates whenever there’s clutter. Messy crowded closets, drawers, stacks of papers/books, and piles of clothes are the worst culprits for bogging down chi energy and your life. Rearrange furniture to help the chi energy to move freely around your house.

Consider The Window Charm

While you should close your windows at night and cover them with curtains/drapes, you should open them during the day to allow sunshine and chi energy to revitalize the room. Hang a crystal in the window. Also hang a wind chime where air flow will cause it to ding.

Clean Up Your Garden

Also add potted plants on the balcony, patio, or entryway to foster vibrant energy in and around the house.

Repair Leaky Faucets and Toilets

Invest your money to replace the system in your tank, if your toilet doesn’t drain and fill up properly. If faucets leak, replace worn washers or other plumbing parts.

Hang mirrors in dining room

Since meals are served there, the dining table is a symbol of a family’s abundance. And Feng Shui remedy for finances is to hang a mirror in the dining room, so that it reflects the dining table.

Remove Mirrors in the Bedroom

Old Feng Shui traditions teach that a mirror reflecting the bed will create infidelity by inviting a third party into marriage bed. If the mirror is part of an armoire that can’t be moved, then cover up the mirror part. Do not have mirrors or TV sets that reflect your bed while you sleep. Cover them before you go to bed with a scarf or drapes.

Keep Bathroom Door and Toilet Lid Closed

The bathroom is dedicated to carrying waste water (dirty water) from the home. To keep it contained within this room, always keep the bathroom door closed.

Move Desk to Command Position

One of the best ways to improve work and finances is to move your desk to the command position of the room. The command position is facing the door that opens into your office.

Locate Your Bed Smartly

Beds should face south-east so that the process of sleeping and waking are in harmony with nature. The foot of your bed should not point toward the door into your bedroom. The head of your bed should have a solid headboard and be positioned against a solid wall rather than under windows.

Add a Water Fountain or Aquarium

This is an excellent way to stimulate chi energy which is the positive energy for your finances and career. Magnificent

CREATE YOUR OWN H a p p y WARDROBE! By Reem Salem

easy as one-two-three!

CLOTHES ALMOST WORK LIKE PHOTOGRAPHS. They bring back memories to your life. But when the memories are too many in your wardrobe, the result is a crowded and cluttered closet! You spend your time complaining that you”just don’t have anything to wear”? Well it’s time to roll up your sleeves and start on cleaning out that closet of yours. IT’S TIME TO CREATE YOUR OWN FASHIONABLE HAPPY WARDROBE!

FIRST THINGS FIRST…

PULL EVERY THING OUT AND ONTO THE FLOOR

Empty your closet. Seriously, take absolutely everything out. Don’t cheat! Don’t leave a single wardrobe or dresser drawer unopened. Make sure you have gathered every last piece of clothing.

DIVIDE YOUR CLOTHES INTO SUB CATEGORIES

Collect items that are similar in one spot. It’d make it easier for you to compare clothes similar in design and decide whether you want to keep them or not.

NOW

you need to ask yourself some questions! DO I LOVE THIS ITEM OR NOT?

LOVE IT AND WOULD WEAR IT RIGHT NOW!!

Self explanatory. Put it back in your closet.

DOES IT REALLY FIT?

It’s time to say goodbye to items that don’t fit quite right. Put all unfitting stuff in a box and store it in the garage or better yet donate them.

IS IT COMFORTABLE?

This is the most important question. Does this item make you feel good and relaxed? Life is too short for 40

clothes that are ill-fitting.

DO I HAVE SOME PLACE TO WEAR THIS TO? Sometimes it is good to stop dreaming and start acknowledging that you will not be attending the occasion at which you hoped to wear this.

EXTRAORDINAIRE

Interview with

Hadi Katra

“Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” - Yves Saint Laurent Bringing together simplicity, contemporary design and experimental form; Hadi Katra is a luxury fashion designer who got in touch with his creative fashion sense at a very early age! Long years ago, Hadi, the son of the famous Lebanese designer ‘Pierre Katra’ shadowed his dad’s career steps creating his own semi-couture, ready-to-wear label with sexy, elegant and simple cuts as the main keywords.

We asked Hadi about Fashion and design, and here are his words to the wise!

When did you discover your passion for fashion?

It started a long time ago when I was just a little boy. I used to visit my father’s atelier and I was really interested in all the colors and fabrics around me. I fell in love with fashion right away and I was eager to create numbers of my own.

How would you describe your fashion label in 3 words? Trendy, classy and sophisticated.

Your definition of a Look Extraordinaire?!

Any new idea or mixture of diverse concepts can produce a Look extraordinaire. I thrive on creating new notions in every one of my collections. I just love to combine fabrics and cuts to create something extraordinary.

New, feel-good trends for 2017?

The tendency to generate more comfortable and practical pieces for the modern woman.

Fashion item that makes the look stand out?

The right accessory! Shoes and bags always complete the look and make it stand out.

Certain names you prefer working with?

I work with a lot of great people and amazing clients; they are all my friends.

Which is more important: being stylish or feeling comfortable?

It can be both! Being stylish doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable. Just keep it simple and natural.

Piece of advice for the fashionistas out there to look their best? You should go for the look that suits you, as long as it makes you feel good. 44

Fashion trends that never go out of date?

The classics! The little black dress and sexy backless gowns; those never go out of date.

Top feel-good moment in your career?

It’s the moment after every great collection and successful fashion show.

-The feel-good factor about your designs?

Well, you have to ask my clients that! :) My main concern is to show women’s femininity and enhance their best features. Also, for me, picking the color and cut that are in tune with the client’s character is very imperative to creating striking numbers.

Your definition of a happy wardrobe?

A happy wardrobe is a completed and updated one, with a felicitous choice of outfits for various times and occasions. My advice is to have the new colors of every season and add some sexy, trendy attire for the evening.

The most beautiful thing that ever inspired you?

The woman is the first and most beautiful thing that ever inspired me. I also get fired up by the architecture and culture of beautiful cities. Sometimes a small object can be a big source of inspiration and may develop into a new collection.

Zen Island

How does it feel to have all your dreams come true? It’s like a dream to have them all come true. :)

THE CRAFT OF FASHION

Interview with

Heba Edris “Individuality will always be one of the conditions of real elegance” - Christian Dior Setting the standards incredibly high in the craft of fashion with radiant signature numbers that out loud shout her name and with lifetime warranty for her pieces against production flaws; the talented Jordanian fashionator Heba Edris is proving fashion design to be all about artistic knowledge, inbuilt style intuition and utter determination. Heba’s road a la mode started with an appetite for dressing up & garnishing her Barbies that developed into a vision of providing aesthetic pleasure of elegant night wear for both veiled and non-veiled ladies. We explored with Heba her exquisite ability to create outstanding outfits from A-Z (a talent that got her receiving an honorary tribute from Her Majesty, Queen Rania El-Abdallah) and we can simply say that this lady has definitely got style!

How did you discover your passion for fashion?

When I was a child, I discovered that creating dresses for toy dolls is something that I’m really passionate about. I used to play with anything comprising textile and fabrics. In my teens, I started advising my friends on what to wear and sometimes pull a full outfit together for them from their wardrobes. Whenever I wasn’t advising someone on what to wear, I was drawing dresses and night gowns. Now I have my own Haute Couture Atelier that designs decorous vogue from beginning to the end!

How would you describe your fashion label in 3 words?

Actually I have 4 words: Elegance, Beauty, Accuracy and Perfection.

Your definition of a Look Extraordinaire?!

I appreciate one touch designs. For me; a fashion piece that is not over decorated; and created to a solid design idea is just outstanding! My best client is a woman who knows what she wants.

New, feel-good trends for 2017?

2017 trends tend to satisfy the needs of all body shapes and types.

Fashion item that makes the look stand out?

It is not an item; it’s a concept. The concept of maintaining a consistent idea on the whole look from A to Z.

Certain names you prefer working with?

I pride myself on receiving an honoring tribute from Queen Rania; Queen of Jordan for dedicating & presenting one of my dresses to her. It’s always been my dream to design for such an elegant, classy lady who has an unmistakable sense of style. 46

Does it feel good working with celebrities?

The feel-good factor about your designs?

Which is more important: being stylish or feeling comfortable?

Your definition of a happy wardrobe?

Not really! I’m more about the person not the celebrity.

Comfort and style cannot substitute for one another. If a design is stylish but the client does not feel comfortable wearing it, then this fashion item is flawed to me.

Piece of advice for the fashionistas out there to look their best?

Commit to wearing the proper sizes! Wearing an item 2 sizes smaller (or bigger) does not make you look better.

Fashion trends that never go out of date?

Sheath style dresses; those kind of dresses that go narrow below the waist with no waistline seam. They’re simple, they’re elegant, they existed since as far as I can remember, and they still look good and in style on most women.

The harmony between the elements of the design.

A wardrobe with a black suit, technicolored shirt, high waist pants and long red soirée dress.

The most beautiful thing that ever inspired you?

The process of realizing the beauty inside a woman inspires me, because it enables me to inflect that beauty on a design as unique as she is.

Top feel-good moment in your career?

Every moment I receive positive feedback from a client who appreciated the details applied to create the individuality of the design.

Zen Island How does it feel to have all your dreams come true? I still have many dreams that I hope would come true.

Can you put a price tag on happiness? Of course not!

What puts you in a good mood?

Chocolate is always a good answer. Also music and dancing as I used to be a ballet and gymnastics performer.

What puts a huge smile on your face? When I see a beautiful woman nicely dressed.

What life experiences do you want to have next?

I need to explore the business management aspects a little bit more, and explore more towards the philosophy of art.

Pain is beauty, or so that horrifying saying goes. But today it seems more like money is beauty. With an endless myriad of expensive beauty products on the market, you could easily spend a whole paycheck on creams, lotions, tonics and tinctures claiming to erase every flaw. But there’s no need to drop hundreds of dollars on skin care products at high-end beauty stores any more. All the premium skin treatments you need; face washes, scrubs, toners, masks, moisturizers, even acne treatments can be done right at your home with some common ingredients. Things like sugar, honey and eggs have an unremitting laundry list of uses –from hair masks, to face masks, to tasting great on toast. So take a look at our top foodinspired beauty treatments that are guaranteed to leave you feeling fresh-faced-and-haired, and chemical-free!

Mayonnaise

In addition to being super tasty with fries, mayo can do wonders with hair and skin.

Make your own softening and exfoliating lotion. Crush almonds and mix with mayonnaise. Apply to your skin in circular motions. Leave on for five minutes before rinsing. Once cleaned, you’ll feel like a goddess. Mayo makes a perfect hair mask as well. It’s good at moisturizing dry hair and giving it shine.

Sugar

Eating spoonfuls of sugar may not be good for your health, but putting it on your face and hair is completely a different story. Sugar’s small particles make it a great natural exfoliator. It’s softer and easier on sensitive skin. So pair with an oil to gently scrub off dead cells on your face and lip.

Grapes Stop paying hundreds of dollars for 2 ounces of some mystery cream promising unbelievable results. Crush up some grapes and apply to wrinkle-prone areas, leave on for 15-20 minutes, gently wash off... then watch the grapes’ magic happen!

Create your own hairspray using sugar and water. Add six teaspoons of sugar to boiling water and leave to cool. Then squirt onto your hair for lasting bounce and that all-day hold.

Eggs Whip up a mask perfectly suited to your hair needs. For normal hair, use the whole egg. Use the whites, if oil is the bane of your existence. And the yolk, if you need extra moisture. Pour a half cup’s worth of whatever part of the egg you’re using and whisk until smooth. Apply to hair and scalp. Let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo.

Cucumber

Honey

It’s no surprise that honey can bring dry skin back to life. Add a drop of raw honey to your evening dose of moisturizer. it pulls moisture deeper within your skin’s cells, helping your favorite moisturizer work even better. Apply to common dry areas like elbows and knees to give your skin a sweet, healing treat. Leave on for half an hour or so. Just remember to wipe and rinse off before getting dressed.

Pineapple Juice Once we say cucumber, so we imagine the iconic image of a woman in a bathrobe and shower cap with face mask and cucumber rings on her eyes. Applying cucumber juice on your skin really does magic. It smooths wrinkled skin, lightens dark circles and reduces eyes puffiness.

Pineapple juice is not just great for tasty piña coladas, it’s also great for our skin. Once frozen, pass the pineapple ice cubes over your skin and leave for five minutes before rinsing. The pineapple enzymes will keep your face hydrated and help skin stay supple, fresh and bright.

Oatmeal A bowl of oatmeal and milk make for a fabulous brunch; and they make for a fabulous moisturizer as well. Take store bought oats, grind them in a blender and mix the grounds with your regular facial cleanser just prior to use. Gently massage the mixture onto your face (avoiding the eye area) in small, circular motions; then rinse as usual. This is particularly great for people with sensitive skin.

Baking Soda It does a great job with cake, and so it can do with your hair too! When your hair is looking dull and oily and you wanna skip the dry shampoo, add a teaspoon of baking soda into your roots. Comp well, apply a vinegar rinse, then enjoy the shiny locks. Magnificent

BEHIND

THE SCENES OF STYLING

Interview with

Ghadir Al Agabany “Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” - Lauren Hutton Think you know something about style? Well, think twice! Becoming a fashion stylist is definitely a difficult business! There are very few websites and guidebooks to help you figure out the details; so unless you have a mentor, you’re really on your own! Fitly we jumped at Ghadir Al Agabany, the well-informed fashion consultant and stylist, for a little chit-chat about fashion and style, and here’s what she’s about…

How did you discover your passion for fashion & styling?

It all came out as a simple interest in the industry as a whole. I started back in the 90s from the beginning of the ladder as a Sales Representative. Then, consecutively, I got promoted to store and brand management. After some extensive practical experience, I enhanced my knowledge with post-graduate studies in business management to finally become a Fashion Marketing Consultant.

Your definition of a Look Extraordinaire?!

I believe a look extraordinaire goes down to two main points, being yourself and being creative. This is the beauty of fashion! It’s all about going out of the box, breaking the norms and creating your own individual look.

New, feel-good fashion trends for 2017?

If you’re in the industry or a keen follower, you would comprehend that fashion does not change. It’s the way we style fashion that makes all the difference. As for the trend now, well, I see daring audacity of loud puffy oversized collections with lots of transparency and vivid earth colors.

Styling tip that would make the look stand out?

Solid colors, believe it or not, are key to an outstanding look. Bold contrasting tones are eye-catching and trendily fashionable.

Certain names you prefer working with?

Designers in Egypt are developing and increasingly flourishing. I had the pleasure to work with many fantastic talents like Dina Shaker, Nazeeka, Norine Farah, Sherine Hussein, Temraza, Sherine Begermy, Eman Saab, Maison Saeedy and many many others.

Fashion trends that never go out of date? White shirts, black pants and denim.

What puts a huge smile on your face?

I smile when I’m happy and others are happier.

What life experiences do you want to have next? Many life experiences are still on way for me. There are non-stop visions I can see. With some aim, effort and persistence; hopefully I’d be able to make them reality.

She was referring to how essential the wellbeing of oceans and seas is to the wellbeing of the planet. About 70 percent of Earth’s surface is covered by water, and oceans hold about 96 percent of it. So keeping them healthy is key to our survival. Yet, many people don’t give the marine environment a second thought or even consider it in their lives.

I grew up on the biggest island continent, Australia. Like Egypt there is a lot of desert, but the majority of the population lives closer to the coast as there are seemingly endless beaches. We share something else with Egypt – one of the most magnificent coral reef systems packed with thousands of species of marine life. My old home has the Great Barrier Reef, and Egypt has the Red Sea!

I know many Egyptians never experienced the Red Sea, and I myself didn’t do it on my first 5 visits to Egypt. I was a beach baby in Australia, and I learned to swim as a toddler because my grandmother lived across the road from the famous Bondi Beach. Dad taught me to swim both in the still waters of the beach pool and in the surf, where waves can be a meter high. You either learn to swim with or through the wave, or get “dumped” _swirled up and crashed into the sandy shallows. I love the sea and have always advocated it as a great escape from the stresses of our everyday life, but we had no fringing reefs at the beaches where I lived. So my first snorkeling was done here in Egypt, at a relatively late age. I was immediately hooked, and now I am passionate about everyone having this experience. It is a miraculous feeling when I put on my mask and snorkel, and slip into the water. Every care slips away. I feel weightless and free physically and mentally. All aches of the body and

Do your first snorkel from a beach, not a pier; so you can touch the sandy or rock bed with your feet, if you begin to feel tired or to panic. Soon you will be wondering why you didn’t try this years ago.

DIVING

Of course next step from snorkeling is diving, either scuba diving with tanks or freediving where you train your body to stay under longer without using tanks. Courses in both are widely available in all Red Sea cities. Women are increasing in numbers among divers. PADI now holds an International Women’s Dive Day, and for the first one held in Sharm el Sheikh the Reef Oasis Dive Club offered free introductory dives to all women who had not previously tried scuba diving. Opportunities like this are all the more reason for you to try diving. One of the female instructors said the number of women diving is increasing, and that women make good divers because they are very aware of details.

YOGA You can also benefit from doing activities near water, without getting wet. Many people like to do yoga on the beach as the sound of water in motion helps them focus and relax. There are hotels such as Coral Coast in Dahab that offer wellness programs including a variety of yoga styles. You can read more about their programs in the ‘Hot Spots’ pages of this issue. With one-stop wellness centers like this, you can try different fitness disciplines and treatments with the beach and sea in view.

If you prefer to enjoy the water mostly from above, riding a beautiful horse along the beach and in the shallows is utterly magical. Sharm Equestrian offers many choices including half or full day of riding in Nabq National Park. In a half day (three and a half hours in the saddle) you get to ride through the breathtaking canyons and desert, before turning towards the Red Sea along the beach to the Coastal Gate and Nabq Oasis. The ride continues by the sandy beaches, with the opportunity for plenty of canters along the way. AQUA ACTIVITIES There are many more familiar beach activities that make exercise more fun; from long beach walks to aqua aerobics, to beach volleyball. One of the best ways to find water wellness activities and events is through www.meetup.com. Egyptians are yet to make real use of this; but if looking for beach activities in other countries or cities, Dubai for example, you will find something happening in or near the water every week. Why not start your own Meetup for waterwellness here? It can be once a year or once a week. Every activity makes a difference to your fitness and sense of feeling good. Scuba Yoga is an increasingly popular way to water wellness. Yoga and scuba diving are both forms of meditative movements focusing on a breath synchronized system. Trough controlled breathing, the mind gets calmer and more relaxed and breathing rate becomes slower. The result is better air consumption while diving; which means you can stay down longer and have the quality of your dive improving. There are some destinations such as Thailand and Zanzibar that offer combined yoga and diving programs, a wonderful way to unwind during your precious holiday time and learn new skills.

SUPPORTING WATER WE LLNESS There are so many ways you can experience the health-giving benefits of water. You can also support water wellness by

wearing a reminder of its importance in our lives. Thirdseye Gemstones is a new company that donates 30 days of clean drinking water to people who would otherwise not have access to it. Water and sanitation keep families healthy, women and girls safe, and children in school. Every bracelet purchased helps fund the Clean Water for Schools Project in Ethiopia with WaterAid Canada www. thirdeyegemstones.com

Don’t let another summer pass by without trying some new water activity, not just the

familiar club or hotel pool but something that will really recharge your soul as well as your body.

INDULGING IN

THE GLEE OF FITNESS

Interview with

Maya Nasser “The best project you’ll ever work on is you.” - Anonymous Most of us aren’t athletes, but we all can be fit! Listen to Maya Nasser, the fitness instructor and sports nutritionist from Lebanon who succeeded to fight off her unhealthy habits and rise up to the challenge of earning first places in international modeling competitions! We have teamed up with her so she lets us in on her secrets to living well. She talked to us about incorporating fitness into day-to-day life, the importance of a good diet and her top tips for endurance and recovery. It’s a lot of fun and only the beginning of it! Let’s get started!

When did you discover your passion for fitness?

I first discovered my passion for fitness after gaining a lot of weight and feeling quite insecure about my body. I initially had no background in fitness and used to lead a very unhealthy lifestyle. I used to eat lots of bad food and never do any exercise. After hitting rock bottom, I had a wakeup call and I realized that I am responsible for my own lifestyle. I did not want to end up majorly overweight and unhealthy. This is when I started going to the gym and completely changing my diet.

How about your experience with modeling competitions?

After losing all my excess weight and reaching my ideal weight, I decided it was time for a new challenge. I did not want to stop there. This is when I had heard about fitness modeling competitions. I had heard that these competitions require you to push to your limits mentally and physically with a strict diet and intensive training. I realized that I enjoy the fit and healthy lifestyle and was really excited to challenge into a competition. I have now competed for a total of four years and have won six trophies in total.

How do you manage to keep yourself motivated?

I keep myself motivated by reminding myself of how rewarding a lifestyle of health and fitness is. I compare my old lifestyle to the one I’m adopting now and realize that it is always worth it to get up and exercise and eat healthy food. Health and fitness are not just about the way you look and feel but also about prolonging your life so as to be around as your grandchildren grow up. We all have days when we don’t feel motivated, but what matters is consistency. I always say you will never get anything done, if you only work hard on the days you feel good.

Your definition of a Figure Extraordinaire?!

My ideal figure would be one that is curvy but also athletic. Many girls contact me saying they want to be skinny but I always say when you train, you should do so to become healthy, fit and strong. I also like soft and feminine muscle definition.

The relaxation technique that always gets your Zen on?

Sitting quietly at home in my garden always helps me relax. I think it is very important to take time for yourself to just relax and unwind. 58

Piece of advice for the ladies out there to look their best?

Lift weights! Many women falsely believe that they will bulk up and look like a man if they lift weights. This is incorrect. Women do not have enough testosterone in their bodies to bulk up like a man, unless they were to take steroids. Lifting weights has been proven to boost metabolism, help burn fat and also shape and tone the body.

Workouts that give the best outcome?

For the best results, a woman should lift weights and do cardio. Cardio is any physical activity that increases the heart rate such as swimming, cycling, jogging, etc. Women should train all muscles in the body and do cardio at least three times a week for optimal results. However, it is also important to follow a healthy diet as you will never achieve desirable outcome if you are not eating properly.

Fitness tips that would double the result of exercise?

One quick and easy way to lose weight without changing anything in your diet is not to drink any liquid calories. Many beverages are very high in calories and because liquid calories are not satiating. It is very easy to overindulge. My advice is to stick to water, coffee and tea, and to always use low calorie sweeteners. My other tip is to eat natural, unprocessed foods every day and to restrict junk food and sweets to no more than once or twice a week. It might be hard at first, but it takes three weeks to establish a new habit. Cravings for

Zen Island

sweets and sugar will eventually disappear and our bodies will become conditioned to eating healthy. healthy food is the only food our bodies are actually craving. It is essential to follow a good diet in order to see physical results from exercise.

New, feel-good fitness trends?

There are lots of stylish, sporty and comfortable outfits out there. It is important to feel your best exercising; and when you are wearing a stylish sports outfit, you feel motivated to work out and reach your fitness goals.

Strong obvious muscles or a naturally toned figure? Somewhere in the middle! I would choose a curvaceous figure with soft muscle definition.

The feel-good factor about exercising?

When we exercise, our bodies release anti-stress hormones called endorphins. These hormones help you feel really good, happy and positive. It has been proven that exercise can be a more effective form of therapy for depressed people than antidepressants. Exercise helps you cope with stress and feel more relaxed in your everyday life.

The most exciting moment in your career?

This was back in 2014 when I won first place in Pure Elite bikini fitness competition. This is what made me say I have officially reached all my goals.

How does it feel to have all your dreams come true?

It feels great! But I believe that not all my dreams have come true yet. Dreams and successes are maintained by those who try and keep on trying. Once a person achieves one goal, I believe it is time to set another.

Can you put a price tag on happiness?

I don’t believe you can put a price tag on happiness. This is because the best things in life are for free.

What puts you in a good mood?

Being with friends, family and my pets always put me in a good mood.

What puts a huge smile on your face?

Hearing that I helped someone reach their fitness goals or that I changed their life in some way.

What life experiences do you want to have next? I hope to experience new challenges that will make me a better, stronger and more ambitious person.

Kicking it of f with ZUMBA;

ZUMBA

We’re sure everyone has already tried or at least heard of this fat-burner, pain-free workout. However, for any ancient dinosaurs over here _which we doubt, ZUMBA is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance and performed primarily to Latin American music.

Recently, ZUMBA was mingled with other dances such as belly dancing, Bollywood style and hip hop. And let me tell you, the whole mixture of all the above dances is MESMERIZING!

This is basically a typical hour-long class that is now bombarding many fitness centers and aerobics studios. With everyone facing the mirror, a teacher leads the group through specific punches and kicks; usually to the beat of dance-club music.

Now if you are up to some strength,

this class is definitely your go! The kicks will strengthen your legs, especially the hamstrings, and it will firm your abdominal muscles. In fact, all moves will make your torso into a solid base, and who wouldn’t kill for that! Your cardiovascular system will also benefit, since it’s not just kickboxing but it combines cardio as well.

Cardio Kickboxing

The moves are worked into swiftly executed combinations (e.x. jab, cross punch, hook, uppercut, front kick, jumping jacks, sideways scooting steps) weaving jumping amidst the punches and kicks, so that your heart rate stays elevated for most of the session. Et voila, you get a good strength class that will leave you drenched in sweat but completely energized!

Pilates

W ait! isn’t that a new form of Yoga?! – No it’s not Yoga nor Advanced Yoga as many confuse it for. It’s similar yes, yet more or less of different rules, postures and targets. Pilates is basically a fitness exercise that aims to strengthen your core. It’s not a cardio exercise nor considered as a sport, but it aims to emphasize core and muscles. So if you are looking for some deep cardio and fat-burning classes, I wouldn’t advise to rely solely on Pilates. On the other extreme; those who aim to get stronger, more sculpted muscles and some extra flexibility; this is the perfect exercise to get a person in a better posture and a better sense of well-being. You must be informed first that this exercise targets mainly the core; then legs, glutes and back follow. It will help you stabilize and tone as it focuses on strengthening your back as you enhance your abs.

Tabata 09: min. 00

W ell, let me tell you folks, this new kid in town is a miracle! Tabata is a 9-minute extreme fat burning workout; usually accompanied by nausea, day dreaming and seeing stars. I am not intending to scare you, but yes, you only know you’re doing the exercise correctly when you experience the above-mentioned symptoms!

With that in mind, Tabata typically isn’t a good idea for workout novices, since it was developed by Jap professor who was training athletes for the Olympics before it hit the fitness world by storm. You should also know that you have to be all warmed up before starting. So it’s not just the 9 minutes! You need to make sure that all your muscles are active or you’re most likely to get injured. Now let’s take a quick glimpse of the exercise itself. The system is easy: 20 seconds of work, followed by 10 seconds of rest; and repeat. The short rest intervals force the body to keep moving before it actually recovers from the previous set—and that’s part of the reason why Tabata leads to significant aerobic and anaerobic gains. But there’s a catch: You have to push yourself—really push yourself all out, or else you are just exhausting your muscles. Magnificent

A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF

A HEALTH COACH

Interview with

Dana Dinnawi “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” - Hippocrates

Life is full of new choices. And by making better choices, you help yourself feel better! You have the power to achieve the body and spirit wellness you crave, as what’s called genius is working for an abundance of life and health. Nowadays, Health Coaches are increasingly tasked to help patients implement daily lifestyle changes, so here we go on a task to reveal a little bit about the mind and heart of Dana Dinnawi, the empowering health coach and dietitian, who graced us with some of her healthy insight for a dynamic wellbeing… so let’s go!

How did you discover your passion for empowered wellness? I’ve always been interested in health and healthy diets. Several years ago, I thought I was doing everything right: eating well and leading a healthy lifestyle. But in reality I didn’t feel good at all. My body was suffering. I was gaining weight. Plus; I had no energy, no enthusiasm for life, and no desire to wake up and do any of my basic duties towards my family. By coincidence, I discovered that all of this was related to the so-called “healthy” foods I was eating. I went on a 10-day cleanse and all of these symptoms disappeared. Soon after, I decided to become a health coach and learn about the relationship between what we eat and don’t eat, and our overall health. And that’s how it all started!

Where does your passion come from? My passion comes from my desire to change people’s perception about food; that it’s not just something you eat, but kind of medicine that does affect every aspect of your well-being.

How do you manage to keep your clients motivated? I support my clients throughout the entire process of changing their nutrition habits. I help them see the bigger picture beyond simply losing weight. Having that long-term view/goal of long lasting health is key.

Your definition of a Life Extraordinaire?! It’s living life on your own terms in a way that lights you up daily; whatever that means to you.

Staying Healthy Detoxing NATURALLY and

By Dana Dinnawi

Hippocrates said it best, “All disease begins in the gut.” So, if this is true and disease begins in the gut, aka your digestive system, then having a healthy and strong digestion is key. But let me share one secret with you: when the body is toxic, your digestive system is weak. So even if you eat “clean” and only buy organic and hormone-free foods, you are still breathing toxicity in this world.

We live, eat and breathe toxins every day. Look around your home and think of all the paints on the walls, the rugs, the pesticides sprayed on your green grass, and the exterminator to get rid of the bugs! Even if your home is chemical-free, most probably your makeup is not!

Unless you’re ready to live in a bubble or a hyperbaric chamber, it is time to wake up to what I call the “daily detox”. Detox is not a curse word or anything to be scared of. On the contrary, it is exciting to think about your body and cells actually functioning. I tell people detox isn’t all about living on juices, water, smoothies, or just salad or soup. It’s about lessening the toxic load in your body.

Or as I say it, “Taking out the trash.” 64

Magnificent

Body, Mind & Soul

When we are toxic, our body cannot properly perform. It cannot fittingly absorb nutrients and minerals, metabolize, detox or stay hydrated. It’s sort of a vicious cycle. Detox is necessary to be healthy, happy, and free of disease. We all have some low level inflammation because, again, we breathe, even more, we stress in this busy world. Every time we stress, we create acid in our body; and our body is forced to pull minerals to buffer the acid waste. Liver, lymph and kidneys all begin to work hard to filter out that toxic load.

TOXINS = INFLAMMATION = WEAK DIGESTION • • • • • • • • •

Difficult weight management Constipation/Diarrhea Gas/Bloating Headaches Low energy Low sex drive Bad skin Heartburn/Reflux Moodiness/Depression

By detoxing, YOU will improve digestion and therefore free your body of inflammation and toxins.

So what happens when the body is tired and clogged?

The foundation of detox is NOT to ever feel deprived or starved. The goal is to help YOU learn how to EAT CLEAN and learn what foods are IRRITATING your body.

When your digestive system is not working and cannot break down these foods, it cannot focus on getting RID of TOXINS! That means you cannot get rid of bloat and fat and skin breakouts, and all that stuff that keep you tired.

Eating clean is a way of life, not a diet.

So, we begin to eat whole foods that promote detox in a safe and natural way. No, you do not have to only drink juices, or soups, or smoothies, or go on a grapefruit diet; you just need to eat foods that don’t irritate your digestive system or clog it up.

So here are my tips for staying healthy

& detoxing naturally

1. Upon waking, drink warm or room water with lemon and 1 tsp raw apple cider vinegar (if tolerated) and add a dash of cinnamon or cayenne.

2. Start your day by being positive. Find a daily affirmation that gets you fired up. I love 3. 4. 5.

Louise Hay, Geneen Roth, Gabrielle Bernstein and Marianne Williamson. Try getting quiet within yourself, even just for one minute. Say it. “I release what does not serve me.” Hold your heart as you say it out loud. Scream it if you want to. Own that power! Drink fresh, green juices or make your own green juice with 1 tbsp chlorophyll, lemon, lime and water. Aim for one meal (per day) that is super easy on your digestive system. Try smoothie, green juice, or soup to give your digestion a rest. Get moving and shaking. Yes, exercise is one of the best ways to detox your body. Drink plenty of water and add lemon, lime or grapefruit to flush the toxicity. Skin brushing is my favorite way to support the liver and get rid of the toxins. Brush your tongue.

6. 7. 8. 9. 10. And last but not least, BE HAPPY and grateful for life.

TCM

By Maggie Youssef

Pamper your Body and Soul with

Ancient Medical Treatments You might be wondering about the secret ingredient behind the strong health of Chinese people, and how they are constantly on top of the Olympics and sports in general! It all sums up to a healthy regimen they created called TCM; a.k.a. Traditional Chinese Medicine. Practitioners, in China, were able to save their ancestors’ ancient medical practices and beliefs for thousands of years. And today, the treatments of TCM are worldwide spread. They basically include acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Tai chi. Those treatments are suitable for all ages, and can be used together. It’s said that TCM can heal you spiritually, and even treat and prevent health problems that may occur in the future!

Acupuncture The Solution for Physical

Pain

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting needles into the body to reduce pain or induce anesthesia. An acupuncturist has to insert needles made of metal on certain points of the body, and this has to be practiced by highly professional people. This form of alternative medicine isn’t only popular in China; but it is also very commonly used in Indonesia as an essential treatment. According to an Indonesian practitioner, “actors and actresses have been using it and it is really effective”. It’s said that it can reduce the symptoms of having back pain, headache, and even stroke.

Acupuncture and Egyptian Societies:

It might be shocking for some Egyptians that there are 400 points on the body that can be stimulated by needles; including sensitive parts. Nevertheless, there are many Chinese clinics and centers that create acupuncture programs and sessions, here in Egypt, for interested clients/ patients. But let’s first respond to the frequently asked questions by Egyptians:

Does it hurt?

It does not hurt when the Acupuncturist is highly experienced. The needles have the thickness of hair, so they’re quite thin. For this reason the patient can only feel the mechanical interaction between the skin and the object, and maybe slight aching and warmth. If you felt any sort of pain, you have to inform your acupuncturist to adjust the needle in a way that makes you feel comfortable; otherwise you change the clinic and call for a different practitioner.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is absolutely safe with no side effects as long as it is practiced by a certified professional. The needles are sterilized and are for single use; although that might not be the case in Indonesia because some ancient treatments are just transferred from one generation to another such as in cupping (hijama) which is principally heated glass cups applied to the skin creating suction that’s believed to stimulate the flow of energy.

66

Magnificent

Is there any scientific evidence that states their efficiency?

Separating the scientific evidence from traditional practices is essential because our motive is to feel good and to renew our energy. At the end, our mental well-being is as important as our body health. Science doesn’t quite get it when it comes to spiritual things, but it is assured that acupuncture can cure people from anxiety and stress; therefore, it is worth a try. And while not certain about the reasons behind the Chinese belief, many people confirmed that it can prevent serious problems such as cancer.

How many sessions shall I take in the clinic or Chinese Center? The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health states that it depends on the availability of the patient; however, if you want to experience effectiveness, so you have to proceed with long term treatment. The session takes from 20 minutes to one hour, and the needles can work in the points that had serious injuries. According to a Chinese clinic in Egypt, they may require an X-ray from the patient to apply the needles on the acupuncture points that are causing pain.

How much does it cost?

The treatment is actually quite cheap. It costs about 180 EGP for 10 sessions of acupuncture. In Egypt, Acupuncture usually comes in packages including also cupping that costs 120 EGP; which is rather a realistic price.

Ancient Chinese Herbs The Shortcut to Weight Loss NCCIH organization confirms that the herbal

medicine is extracted from different parts of the plant such as the flower petals, stems and roots. They get transformed into a drink (such as herbal tea) or capsules. But it’s not always safe, as it can be toxic or contain drugs. Many people complain about some side effects of getting sleepy or having minor headaches. But Asian people use it primarily for weight loss. It’s, for them, the same as drinking green tea to lose weight.

Tai Chi

The Ultimate Therapy for Spiritual Healing It’s an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi has been used for centuries to pamper

the body and relax the mind. During the process, massage movements are applied to acupuncture points of the body with some breathing techniques involved. Many people think it has great impact on mental health; and that it cures stress, anxiety and also depression. It is recommended to use this kind of massage very often. And there are many centers in Egypt that provide the suitable environment to receive great pleasure during the session, with a cost of roughly 300 EGP. Magnificent

CRAFTING Heals The Soul

The New Affordable Therapy By Marwa Hasan

I’ve always been fascinated by handcrafting! I never thought I’ve got what it takes to be a crafter, until that time when I was in a very dark place in my life. I was suffering from major depression and anxiety, so I started practicing some knitting and sewing out of curiosity. Maybe I was trying to get myself busy, but I found out that it was more than just a hobby. In fact, it turned out to be my unintentional therapy.

I

started losing myself in the learning process and in the details that followed. I got distracted from my trauma. Crafting showed me a new meaning of life while I was surviving mental illness. Now, I own a startup business in crafting. I really believe crafting saved my life!

T

he thing about crafting is that it gets you immersed in activities like planning, learning and advancing, but it’s not only about the thrill of the making process. It also eases the pain, distracts the mind and soothes the soul. It keeps the hands, heart and mind busy; and sometimes I think it’s the only thing that keeps me sane.

H

arvard psychologist and painter; Ellen Langer, has another theory about why handicrafts are so gratifying. She suggests that “they promote a finegrained, joyful observing that is hard to come by when life flies by at its usual breakneck clip.” She adds that “almost any creative activity presents an opportunity to realize how much you’ve never noticed, which leads to more engagement, which leads to better health and well-being.”

So if you don’t know how crafting can benefit you, HERE ARE SOME HINTS... It shapes and strengthens personality

It provides an affordable therapy

When you start doing a project you lose yourself in the details. You feel part of something larger, and that really helps with concentration. Crafting also teaches you to appreciate the value of things. In order to get perfect results, you need to be patient and give it time and practice. The sense of progress and pride you get when you compare your first painting to what you’ve produced after some practice is sure to give a boost to your self-worth. That’s why it’s very important to encourage kids early in life to do crafting.

In her book Crochet Saved My Life; Kathryn Vercillo wrote about how she was this close to committing suicide, only she replaced the blade in her hand with a crochet hook.

Weaving and crocheting have a lot in common with mindfulness and meditation. They are also reported to have a positive impact on mind health and well-being.

Almost all knitters (myself included) describe a sense of calmness and satisfaction that put them in a solid mental state. They feel calmer, happier, less anxious and more confident. So if you want a good night sleep, try taking up knitting.

68

Magnificent

Experts swear by the therapeutic potential of habitual crafting! It is used quite often as a systematic healing method, especially for children and seniors. They believe it can help those who suffer from anxiety, depression or chronic pain. It eases stress, increases happiness and protects the brain from age-caused damage.

IT’S HEALS

It helps with

PROBLEM SOLVING

Crafting taught me patience and perseverance. I have always been an easily bored person and more likely to ditch the whole thing if it wasn’t perfectly done from the first time. The challenge here is that you can never excel at sewing (for example) unless you know how to fix the errors. If you want to see the desired result, you need some practice head on. And by time, you develop your own style of problem solving.

It keeps your

BRAIN POWER INTACT

Learning new skills and doing mental tasks tighten the connections between brain cells. When you craft; you deal with colors, designs and materials. This is training your visual skills! You accustom your eyes to seeing beauty instead of everyday ugliness. And my favorite thing is that when you craft, you’re able to multi-task. You can listen to a TED talk or an audio book which motivates you to use your time to the max and be up to your fullest potential.

It’s a perfect

WAY TO DE-STRESS

Embroidery, cross stitching or any needle work enhance relaxation and destressing. Repetitive motion and rhythmic crafts such as knitting, crocheting or even making a stroke with a paintbrush have undeniable calming effects. As you work, your anxiety melts away. You focus your attention on the task at hand and you become reconnected with your inner self amidst turmoil and confusion. The rhythm gives a chance for contemplation as it breaks the train of thoughts, increases focus and clears the head. The whole idea is actually kind of Zen when you think about it. Try working on a project for 15 minutes every day before you go to sleep, and let the magic work its way.

Depression and anxiety often come with inaccurate feelings of low self-worth. That’s when crafting comes in handy; specially for those experiencing mental illnesses. The challenge of creating something from scratch; of transferring a raw material to a beautiful, unique and useful product is very empowering with regards to self-esteem and self-sufficiency. Not to mention it may even evoke serotonin, which can bring a person out of a bad mood and induce a feeling of bodily and mental calm that’s been scientifically proven to enhance health and reduce the risk of heart disease.

It boosts

CREATIVITY

When people let themselves explore their potential and innate creativity, the result is mindfulness. Crafting boosts creativity which in turn allows you to release pent-up energy and frustration. When you’re being creative, your brain releases dopamine, which is a natural antidepressant. Creativity usually takes sincere concentration, and it can lead to the feeling of a natural high, in addition to allowing you to express yourself in an artistic way. Just grab a canvas and start painting your negative feelings away.

It expands your

SOCIAL CIRCLE

Crocheting, knitting groups or quilting circles boost overall satisfaction and happiness. You talk, listen and swap tips while finishing up your project in a much faster fashion. Crafting also helps in the development of the hand-eye coordination and spatial abilities.

It brings you some

EXTRA BUCKS

The last and most evident benefit you get from crafting is the extra money. Whenever you need to make some extra bucks, you can make art and sell it. Many women are now starting their own crafting businesses and transforming their lives completely!

CHOCOLATE

My philosophy in life is do not trust a person who doesn’t like chocolate! Chocolate is the ultimate source of euphoria, and this is not just based on the fact that I’m in love with it! It’s actually scientifically proven that chocolate contains a substance called “Phenylethylamine”, which is known as “the love drug”. It arouses feelings similar to those that occur when someone is in love. It also contains another neurotransmitter “Serotonin” which is a proven mood-lifter as well. So no more accusations of overrating chocolate, the facts of science spoke the final words!

CANDY This is the treat that fulfills the child we still have inside! Full of flavors and colors, it’s there to give you the sugar rush you need to snap out of any negative state you are going through!

I have never met a person who doesn’t like Potato Chips! Whatever flavor is your favorite, there’s a public agreement on the need of Chips in moments when you need to feel better. Just give me that bag of chips and leave me alone in my corner, I’m gonna be fine! :D

ICE CREAM

COFFEE I don’t know a better way to start the day! Morning coffee is responsible for the productivity of the majority of human beings! A good cup of coffee can change you from a cranky fellow to a morning birdie! Still don’t understand why employers don’t give their employees coffee allowances! :D

HOT CHOCOLATE

POTATO CHIPS

They say; if you see someone eating Ice Cream from the bucket, do not ask them how they feel. Ice Cream comes to the rescue of the wornout souls! It is truly the ultimate feel-good treat!

FRUIT COOLERS

The most refreshing drink you can ever have in a hot summer day! Whatever flavor you prefer; Strawberry, Watermelon, Lemonade, Peach or fruit cocktails. Any fruit flavor you can think of is definitely better as a cooler!

Just another perfect way to take your “Love Drug” dosage! One of the most heart-and-soul warming drinks, especially in cold winter nights! Who needs a heater, when one has a cup of Hot Chocolate! Magnificent

BEYOND THE KITCHEN

Interview with Executive Chef

Philippe Bossert “Eating is necessity but cooking is art!” - Anonymous Craving to create contemporary cuisine that infuses his French roots with the flavors and spices of our part of the world, Chef Philippe Bossert, Executive Chef at the Cairo Marriott Hotel, attentively hand-pick his cuisine elements to bring together both lushness and visual appetite to the straight-from-a-fairytale, luxury Palace. Chef Philippe spoke to us about his treasured moments, passion for cooking, keen eye for ingredients, and wide variety of life experiences that he gained over his 20 years of culinary leadership across the globe. Read through this exclusive journey filled with gastronomy arts and flavors.

How did you discover your passion for cooking?

I grew up to a chef parent who was very passionate about cooking; even planting his own ingredients. When I turned 16, I told my father that I’m interested in cooking and would like to learn more about the culinary techniques. He hooked me up with one of the best restaurants in France, L’Auberge de l’ill, where I practiced the art of cooking. After three weeks of internship, I decided to become a chef.

What’s your philosophy when it comes to cooking?

I believe that attitude and passion are key. They’re even of more significance than mastering cooking skills.

What was the first meal you ever prepared?

First meal! Oh... this was a long time ago! Honestly, I can’t remember. But for me my most treasured meal ever is my father’s Sunday meal which consisted of fresh farm chicken, fresh French fries and fresh salad.

Who are your role models in the business and what make them stand out?

French Chef Alain Du Casse is definitely my role model. He’s one of the best chefs in the world; always conveying passion to his team. I had the pleasure to be among his team in a hotel opening in Madeira Island, and it was a very fulfilling experience. Likewise, I look up to Yannick Alleno, who is also a renowned French chef. I was part of his team in the opening of resort Cheval Blanc in the Maldives, and it was certainly a noteworthy learning practice.

What made you move from specialised stand-alone restaurants to hospitality establishments? I worked in restaurants for 10 years, and this gave me astounding knowledge in the fields of cooking and nutrition. Then, it was time to take the next step in the hospitality department. Training and managing a staff of at least 25 people in a luxury hotel is alot about motivation and communication. It was kind of a challenge, and I thrive on challenges. 72

Magnificent

You worked for various establishments and in different countries: France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Djibouti, Qatar, and more; how was your experience with the disparate cultures and diverse cuisines? Every country brought to me new set of skills and had its own taste. The first country I travelled to was Germany. People there are very organized. In Portugal, people are very openminded and bring a lot of fun to the table. It’s my favorite place! It’s where I met my wife. She is Portuguese, and she is a chef too. In Russia, it was a little bit hard managing the staff there as they couldn’t speak English and I couldn’t speak Russian. It was quite hard to communicate. My experience in Africa was the most amazing! When you travel to Africa you instantly become more creative and broadminded.

So as an Executive Chef, you are more involved in the managerial part than the cooking part? I’m doing both. When I create the menu, I’m totally involved in the cooking part. I also make sure I participate in the making of the new dishes with my team to train them, and make sure they excel in it.

Zen Island

How does it feel to have all your dreams come true? I will be satisfied and in a very good mood for sure.

What’s the most unique thing about your experience with Marriott?

Ongoing training. Here, training is dynamic and nonstop; and it’s great to be always learning.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about cooking?

The ingredients! If you don’t have good ingredients, you won’t be able to produce a good meal. I believe the difference between fast-food restaurants and fine restaurants is the quality of the ingredients and the food prepared.

Where do you get the inspiration for your recipes? Being a cook is the simple act of loving and sharing the ingredients that were produced by farmers. Nature is rich with divine flavors. I certainly get my inspiration from the ingredients. The ingredients talk! When I see fresh good products, I can create a new recipe.

The most unique recipe you have ever prepared?

Molokhya with Ravioli and Shrimps. It was my first time to get to know molokhya here in Egypt. I found it very interesting and I wanted to add my own twist to the traditional way of cooking it.

What is the feel-good factor about Philippe Bossert’s recipes? It’s all about the ingredients.

How can you put a price tag on happiness?

What is the most unique thing about your experience in Egypt?

What puts a huge smile on your face? Good food.

What do you like most about Egypt?

What life experiences do you want to have next? I’m in Egypt now, so all I’m thinking about is

Top feel-good moment in your career?

No one can do that. Happiness is priceless.

improving the kitchen vision here, and creating good menus and tasty dishes.

The traffic. I’ve never seen this kind of traffic anywhere in the world!

People! People here are so friendly. I love to communicate with them.

My experience in Djibouti.

A message for amateur chefs?

Just have the right attitude and great passion for what you are doing, and then you can do it.

Out & About My Joie-De-Vivre moto is… It’s a simple one, just always be positive. Your signature dish is… Beef Tartar. Your favorite kitchen tool is… the pan. If I weren’t a cook, I would be… a gardener. Life will be happier if… people stopped talking about money.

True LOVE HittingRoad

Happily Ever After

By Manal Mandour

The

With the ONE!

Feeling good about one’s self is the first step on the right path when hitting the road with a life partner of your choice. The most important thing to notice when in a love relationship is the person you become with your loved one, and whether the relationship is turning you into a better person or bringing outside the worst version of you.

It all starts from within!

Seeing yourself beautiful, reliable, well-trusted and honest elevates your self-esteem and strengthens the love feelings you share with your partner. It puts you on the right track when you tend to question what you are loved for or why you are being loved! On the other hand, if you feel bad or see yourself ugly inside out, you tend to doubt the feelings of your significant other. In fact, they might be aware of all your flaws and still love you, and it is only you who doubt this love for you do not like yourself the way it is.

Once you are satisfied with who you really are, you will be able to move on to the next step.

Take a good look at your partner. A real deep one! You are in your second step to a successful love life, but here is the problem: YOU ARE IN LOVE! So you cannot see well through your Romeo/ Juliet! And at the rare times you are able to do it, you choose to ignore it. Ignoring the whole thing becomes an issue when you are unable to handle the flaws of your partner. In other words, everyone make mistakes and have defects and flaws. However, accepting people the way they are is one thing and being able to absorb their imperfections is completely another story. For instance; you know that your partner never feels well in overcrowded places, and always lose their temper and become wholly irritated, but then you are an outgoing person who feels best when being among people. The question is “Will you be okay with the idea of not always being able to go out with your loved one or it feels as some sort of sacrifice you might be unable to endure later on?” 74

Magnificent

Now You know all about the person you love, and you are positively sure that you

Happily Ever After

can cope along with his/her personal shortcomings, then you can move on to step three.

Realizing the different translations of “Caring”! What does “caring” exactly mean? In fact, the word “caring” has different translations that belong to one’s feelings, thinking and capabilities. Some see caring as to have sweet words falling on their ears right to their hearts. Others might see caring in actions. Very simple actions! As the way they say “good morning with a smile on their face” or hold your hands tight when you’re sick or in fear. Great actions might be requested as well: offering big surprises or showering them with gifts. But one non-negotiable fact is that you gotta put yourself in the other person’s shoes and to think through so as to do what would really make them believe that you care. The greatest dilemma is when you keep caring your way not the way they need, and you begin to feel that you are not appreciated for whatever you do. It is when you start wondering why you keep giving so much while your partner gives nothing back but only a faint smile or a cold “thank you”. Life, then, may turn into a dramatic arena of cold feelings and deformed passion.

How being cared for in the wrong way feels like! It is like a train going so fast without picking the passengers. The more it moves away, the harder it is to follow. When you catch your breath and jump in, you think you’re about to get the rest you have been craving for; but instead, you find the windows of the train higher than your expectations and you cannot watch the beautiful scenery on the outside. You find the chairs, which might be very comfy to others, are causing you a backache during the entire trip. And although the food offered is very rich and luscious indeed, it makes your sick stomach even worse. Finally, after you have been waiting for so long thinking that things might get better, you start believing that you should get off that train. But it only stops after the trip has wasted so much of your time and energy! Unfortunately, sometimes it stops after it is too late!

Your life… Your choice!

Got much pessimistic? Well, DON’T! Being honest and willing to make little sacrifices for your dearly beloved go on the right path to sound caring. And always remember that even the red flower, which is loved by almost each and every human being, might be seen as the most terrible thing by some people who relate its red color to blood!

When you love, you choose one person and you become united in one soul. But still you will always be 2 individuals; and it takes both of you to feel, love, share and care.

10 Steps to

By Amy Farid

Recovering Heartbreak! Breakups are something almost everyone will experience, especially those who are relationship-rush types. Ending a relationship can be devastating, shocking and above all tear-jerking. But Magnificent is here with 10 professional tips to pave your way to recovering your heartbreak and give you all the empowerment you deserve. Taking care of yourself now is TOP PRIORITY!

TIP 1:

TIME

Allow yourself time to heal. There’s certainly no on-and-off switch! We all have that sensitive human being inside; but even if “the Ex” wounded you pretty harsh, you will still always remember the good moments you shared together. Just give yourself some time to grieve and deal with all the built-up emotions. Trust me this is not weakness; you are just not a robot!

TIP 2:

CRY IT OUT

Don’t fight your feelings! If you are going to disregard them, it’d be even harder for you to deal with them later on. Again, you are not a robot. It’s okay to cry. Hold a pillow up to your face and scream so loud. Or even remove it, who cares! Punch the sofa! If breaking couple of dishes will help, go do it; but stay away from the china or you will be surviving a heartbreak and an angry mother :)

was sort of a gift! And eventually the only thing you will feel sorry for is the time you have spent with that ex!

TIP 5:

ERASE

TIP 6:

FORGIVE

Refer to them as “the Ex”. The less you use their name, the sooner for it to become just an old memory. Delete your Ex’s phone number, text messages, photos and everything. Don’t give yourself the slightest chance to drift into the forgotten past and painful flashbacks that never lead to anything good.

Now after you have done the hate list and the erase task, learn to forgive whatever and whoever is responsible for the end of your relationship. Whether it was yourself, your ex or anything else; forgiving is an imperative part of moving on. Well, I am not asking you to push beyond your forgiveness limits, as it has to be genuine. But think about your future! Nothing is as TIP 3: precious as your own time, and this past Spend time with your other relationships; the relationship should never hold you on. ones that are actually meant to last forever; Get rid of the bitterness, move on and like your blood-bonded family and your close find your own inner peace. friends. TIP 8:

MUSIC

Ok, this is tricky as some music will give you the empowerment you need while others will throw memories back and make you even more miserable. Be wise while applying this tip, as music is generally inspired from true stories! It can help you either take your mind off the subject or just give you a glimpse into your new life. I recommend artists as Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce or Maroon Five. But never ever consider listening to any Adele’s until you are totally through.

: NEVER GET A REBOUND TIP 9:

Do you seriously think you need a new relationship to get over a recent heartbreak! Even if it was a “no strings attached”, it goes only two ways. Either you fall in love again and most probably get heartbroken AGAIN (because you rushed yourself into the wrong sort of relationship), or you hurt that poor person and end up destroying someone! Both ways end badly, so think a million times before you go there.

TIP 10:

: BELIEVE

BELIEVE that there will be many new chapters to your story. Don’t get lost in the one that has already ended! BELIEVE that you will find someone who deserves you and makes your life so much greater. BELIEVE that the moment you’ll find the right person, you will realize that all the pain you have gone through was nothing compared to the happiness you’re now experiencing with the love of your life. Know deep down that you are strong, you will find happiness as long as you believe in happy!

EMAN YASAKY

Area Director of Public Relations, Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Hotel Kids: 1 (Haya)

Being a Mum Made Me Grow Up Eman was working since she was in school. Being the ambitious person who strives on success she is, not working was never an option for her. Now that she’s a mother of a 14-yearold bella, her typical day looks like a roller coaster. The ride starts at 6:00 and doesn’t end! But seeing her kid growing up into a fantastic, passionate character who is open to people and life is, for her, the biggest reward of all!

Motherhood surprised me! You see this tiny tiny creature and ask yourself, is this really mine?? And then as they grow, the resemblance in physical features and habits becomes unceasingly surprising! 78

Magnificent

Eman’s greatest support system is her mother, she keeps a close eye on her girl and is involved in every single detail. Eman learned from her mum that the most important things to pass to your children are generosity & unconditional love.

Now that I am a mother of a teenager, I reflect on my teenage days. If I could go back in time. I will take things easy; just relax and take my time to reflect on decisions. I don’t think I would study harder though, but I don’t tell my girl that.

For my mum, we always came first! I would like my daughter to have the same approach to motherhood as her nana, and of course her cooking recipes! And as difficult as it is for me to admit it, my mom was right on about everything, beginning with the fact that I should drink my milk! :) Eman believes that it’s crucial to have a life outside the house as it broadens mother’s horizon and allows her to develop her kids’ personality thinking out of the box when it comes to raising them.

Eman considers being a mum and working in PR her everyday exercise. She seems to be blessed with a high metabolic rate seeing that she hasn’t gained a pound since her daughter was three! But as time passes, things are becoming more challenging!

The best mum moment for Eman is when her daughter announced that she’s her best friend & that she wants to be like her when she grows up. It’s quite tough to get that from a teenager!

Now that we are wearing the same size, it’s getting difficult to find my clothes where they belong. They manage to disappear magically in her room! ;)

GINA SULTAN Fashion Designer, Stylist and Jury Member in Miss Arab & Ms. Africa Beauty Pageants Kids: 2 (Jessy & Sandra) From Mum to the Runway Gina is one of the most active fashionators in Egypt! She has outstanding taste, great sense of style and is also a loving wife and mother. She refused to be copy of old, typical housewives who prefer to stay home cooking and taking care of the children. She persevered her vision; compromising where she needed to but never taking her eyes off the ball. When timing and opportunities were favorable; she decided to dive in and make a splash, crafting fashion!

Balancing between fashion, business, kids and family wasn’t quite a walk in the park for Gina; but with the help of her husband, she did it! Being a mum and having successful career, and lively social life next to it, make her a better and happier mum. For Gina it’s the perfect combination, although it’s quite challenging to take all in.

Our mums weren’t interested in work as today’s mums. Most of them liked to be housewives primarily taking care of the family. But now life difficulties push women to work and because of that life of mothers today is much more challenging. It wasn’t easy to be a mother doing what I do because my work takes most of my time. My beloved husband is the only reason I could make it. Being that supportive, open minded nobleman he is, he helped me alot with my work and with mother duties as he cares for our family more than anything. Seeing Gina with her girls, it’s clear that the 2 misses took beauty and style after their mother. You wouldn’t help but wonder about her secret to looking that amazing, it’s as if they’re 3 sisters hanging around!

I work in fashion and styling so I must be in good shape looking my best all the time. Take caring of myself is an essential part of my work.

Gina is continuously adding new lines of activity to her business and her latest addition to the list is a Runway Academy that brings professionals in fields of fashion, makeup, etiquette and lifestyle together under one roof. She has always had this dream of taking women’s beauty and elegance to the next level, and now she’s very excited about it. But for her the best part of the journey is feeling her success in the eyes of her beloved husband and daughters. Magnificent

Being mother isn’t an easy task. Sarah as any other mum got bombarded with episodes of colic, flu, teething troubles and other child needs that left her feeling exhausted before even stepping foot into the office. Sometimes she feels stretched in ways she never thought possible. But with good time-management skills, Sarah managed to dedicate a space for her son to assure him that she’ll always be there for him as his pillar of support.

Business VS Motherhood There’s no tougher job in the world—or one with bigger responsibility—than being a mother. And as many women today have their share of bringing home the bacon. Handling motherhood and career is kind of difficult balancing act. But our super mum here managed to do it with a lot of love and fanfare!

It’s usually said that a woman can work just till she gets kids because then she’d need so much time to watch over them. And as much as this is correct, the equation between being a good mother and having a successful career does exist. The secret recipe is time management and dedication.

For me what I have learned is to really dedicate myself to what I do at the moment. It’s more about quality time not quantity. I can spend hours with my son, but what’s the benefit if I didn’t open a conversation with him or listen to what he thinks and try to understand what motivates his mind and soul? Sarah makes sure she takes the opportunity to check in with her boy about the little things going on with him. She believes that by remaining positively engaged in his life, it is easier to have difficult conversations when the need arises.

SARAH NABIL

I see that having an open channel with my child and not trying to raise him the way Director of Public Relations, Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano I was raised are of major substance! Kids today are Kids: 1 (Omar) different generation with totally different circumstances. If I keep denying the changes that happen around us, how can my son relate to my sense of judging. Honesty is my most important connection with my boy. I never fake an advice neither try to relate a situation to my childhood era. Sara feels much respect for her boy as a human and her ultimate wish is to see him grow into a fine man who knows the value of having manners, helping people and respecting women.

After such inspiring stories,

We Gotta Admit that The World is Moving too Fast for us to Look Backwards. We have to dig deep to find our passion, and to find our courage, and then, like all these cool mums, we need to believe in ourselves against all odds.

What can be a better source of super powers than looking at your child, seeing him/her grow up in front of you, copying your words, your actions, and even your attitude.

Be your child’s encyclopedia better than letting him/her have their own untrusted sources of information. Be open to anything they have to say. Even if you are somehow shocked! It actually tremendously helps both of you. As a parent, you will be updated with all the new expressions and attitudes, and as a child you will know what’s ethical and what’s not.

Career Coaching

YOUR

Passion By Sarah Osman

Have you ever felt

that this is not the place where you belong?

Like you’re doing what you NEED to do not what you LOVE to do? Are you torn between staying safe in a stale job or taking the risk and pursue your dream career?

Well, you are not alone! Many of us let our dreams vanish away because we don’t give them enough time to shine up and rise, and we easily give ourselves reasons to choose to give up on them. What’s worse is that we don’t take those dreams of ours seriously, we are not confident enough to fight for them and say

“Yes we can!”

There are 3 kinds of people: Those who are ready to take the risk, those who stay still in their places and stick to their stable jobs, and those who prefer to be a

person of 2 hats.

There are lots of arguments and debates about the “follow your passion” concept. Some see it as the best way to career fulfillment. Others say it’s a myth and believe people just have to work hard and passion will come through. But in that article we are biased to that 3rd kind of people: THE PERSON OF THE 2 HATS; the one who wants to feel financially stable but also don’t want to give up on his/her dreams and passions. It may seem stressful to stick to 2 things at the same time but maybe this is the only way you get to lead to a promising career. 84

• Stretch your comfort zone:

Don’t stay stuck in that box of belonging to one place only. Explore new chances, opportunities and challenges.

• Be critical to yourself:

You have to evaluate your own strengths & weaknesses to be able to carry on and be successful with both hats on.

• Be who you are:

Most people are convinced that following passion would lead to nowhere and that one should be grateful for having a fixed-salary job, and forget about such a myth called passion. Stick to your guns, and don’t go with the flow!

• Sky is the limit:

Remain ambitious as much as you can despite all the negative energy and the toxic people you might come across. Disregard those who belittle your ambitions and make fun of them. Believe in yourself and empower yourself. It’s all about self-motivation.

• Be ready with a backup plan:

If you feel miserable at your existing job and feel like you can’t add any more value to it, be brave enough to quit. But watch out! You must have a good strategic backup plan. You must be financially ready and well-prepared to take the brave decision of letting go of an unfulfilling job.

• Celebrate your achievements:

Praise yourself for the hard work and for the achievements you made, but be credible as well; evaluate your mistakes and learn from them. Practice makes perfect!

• Acquire new skills:

Soft and academic skills enhance your self-esteem and self-confidence.

• Relax from time to time:

Distract yourself from work and do some fun activities to relax and free your mind from overthinking.

• Be your own boss:

GOING ALL THE WAY FROM

PASSION TO PROFIT

Interview with

Mohamed Tohamy “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” - Earl Nightingale.

An Engineer, who succeeded to set himself free and follow his dream of being an influential speaker, inspires us in an interview about his great project of turning dreams into realities, leading the publics to follow their passions instead of pursuing jobs they do not like.

How did ‘Passion to Profit’ come about?

Passion to Profit simply is my life experience from being an engineer to fulfilling my dream of being a motivational speaker. It’s a systemized program that encourages the same process I followed to transform my life from making a living to making a difference.

Where does your passion come from?

It is a childhood obsession about speakers. I was always inspired by anyone who has the power to speak and influence people.

How do you manage to keep yourself and your apprentices motivated? My passion keeps me motivated. When you do what you truly love, you can’t get enough of it.

What’s your next step?

I am on a mission to transform the state of unfulfilled employees worldwide. We are going to share the Passion to Profit experience with millions of people in the next few years to encourage more population to do what they love.

Your definition of a Life Extraordinaire?!

It is a life that you live on your own terms where you follow your passion and serve as many people as you can.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

In an interview I did with Stephen Covey, the American keynote speaker and author of the best seller ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’; I asked him “what is the secret of your greatness”. He replied, “Keep God at the center of your life!”

What is the thing you would like to change about the world?

I want to help unfulfilled employees to pursue their passions. It is killing me to see millions of people wasting their precious lives in meaningless jobs just to make a living. I want to set people free from the prison of the paycheck and help them do what they really love to do. 86

A piece of advice to people who don’t have the courage to pursue their passions?

It doesn’t require a big deal of courage. It always works in baby steps by using Passion to Profit proven methodology to achieve results. You won’t be walking in this journey alone. In Passion to Profit community, people meet on a bi-weekly basis to motivate and support each other, so we all get to fulfil our dreams.

Fighting for your dreams or living life as it goes?

It doesn’t have to be a fight. You should be flexible, enjoy life and keep pursuing your passion. Small steps are always better than zero steps.

The relaxation technique that always gets your Zen on? I get a lot of ideas when walking or taking a hot shower.

If you have to define all what you did in your journey in a title, what would you say? Success is all about service.

Top feel-good moment in your career?

The rise of the Passion to Profit project and dream.

How does it feel to have all your dreams come true?

I believe you should live a journey that has no destination or ending. I don’t want all my dreams to come true. I want to be in a continuous process of dreaming and achieving.

How can you put a price tag on happiness?

No price tag can be put on it. It is the ultimate purpose of life.

What puts you in a good mood? Watching a good movie.

What puts a huge smile on your face?

Watching my kids doing things for the first time.

What life experiences do you want to have next? Traveling more often and exploring new places.

But coming back to animation; both movies (beautifully crafted and more profound and sincere than many other live-action films) are nothing short of masterpieces. And I bet you won’t be able to resist falling in love with Toothless and his bond with Hiccup. The thoughtprovoking characters and genuine belief in romance of Nicholas Sparks has made him one of the most well-known novelists in the world. A Macho Thing

Out for the

By Ahmed Hamdy

Manly Men! with the

Warning

Explicit content ahead, viewer discretion advised.

Go Back to Sleep

Yep, I said it. Call in sick, cancel all your plans, what’s the worst thing that could happen? You live in a 3rd world country, there’s probably home-delivery sick notes right now for a nominal fee. Don’t know anyone? I’ll personally hook you up, again, for a “nominal” fee.

Fool Around

Go to a karaoke bar in Zamalek or Mohandesin and sing your heart out on stage in front of total strangers or do the robot dance and make a complete idiot out of yourself. Trust me, chicks dig that, the crazy ones that is. What am I saying, they’re all crazy anyway!

Travel

Don’t be a cheap bud and break that piggybank of yours. You could go backpacking through Europe for 2 weeks for less than 10,000 EGP. To hell with the 5-star-hotel, elephant-tour-to-theriver-and-back, sit-on-the-Eiffel-tour preplanned boloney. If you want to have fun, don’t be a bloody tourist and just explore the country as is. Google a couch surfing website and don’t go buying ridiculous crap that you won’t need. Then you’ll have enough money to actually enjoy yourself. I’d always go for travelling solo, you don’t want anyone weighing you down. Meet random strangers and have the time of your life. Or, if it’s really a hassle to get out of this rathole, drive to Sokhna and join the other lame-os. But if I were you, I’d pick a calm, cozy spot on the red sea where not many idiots have made it a touristic spot!

Exercise

I know I know, everyone is on the juice now and they all want to get big and 90

Magnificent

God dammit, it’s that time of the

month again. Oh wait, we’re dudes, we don’t get all hormonal and stuff… or do we? You know, there’s some research saying that when it’s a full moon out there men get affected and become all lovey dovey. And I thought I’ll become the next punk-a**, breakout, moon-moaning, sissy wanna-be werewolf.

So, bro, woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Having problems that are weighing you down? Girlfriend issues and thinking of ditching women for good? Already happy but why the hell not be happier? Here’s a cocktail of options guaranteed to put you in a jolly mood!

bronze to impress them gold-diggers. Still, exercising actually improves how you feel, both mentally and physically. I don’t wanna get all Dr. Oz on your nerves but puncturing a sand bag is always better than running over someone when you’re angry. Besides, them gold-diggers have selected the local gyms as their new mines; haven’t you seen those full-makeup, half-naked chicks at your gym? Either way, whether it’s a fitness club or a night club, make the most of it pal!

Do Something Fun

We can’t really argue on that. There’s always something fun out there to do. Go to Dream Park and bring out the masochist in you in all the different heart-throbbing games. Call the rest of the squad and have a paintball war. Go skating and wipe the ring with your rear but don’t break a bone. Get a tattoo, no tramp stamps though. Bring those wrestling-maniacs and mess each other up while jumping on an over-priced trampoline. Download some parody movies and laugh your behind off. Get a new haircut or shave that sorry-excuse for a beard you have. Run a food marathon you fatso or go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant. I think whatever your personality, you’ll definitely find something that goes along with it. If you didn’t, suicide might not actually be a bad idea.

Smoke

If for a second you thought I meant cigarettes or even shisha, get the f*** out of here. No, hash is not addictive my friend, it’s even medicinal, I think… I’ve seen people smoke hash to lose weight, I’ve seen them smoke it go gain weight. Some laugh hysterically, and some sob like little bitches. It’s a 50/50 chance to be honest. So, try once and pray you’re one of the lucky bastards. Again, home-delivery is now available and the “nominal fee” rule applies if you don’t know anyone.

I could go on forever as the possibilities are limitless of what can actually boost your mood as a masculine homosapian.

I for one would go for a cocktail.

Wake up, sleep some more, wake up again, exercise, drink, smoke, call other psychotic people I know, go do something fun, get out of the city, drink more, and pray it ends with an orgy. Just saying…

H

Speak Ur Mind

eal Them... eel Them By Reham Meky

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of those depths. - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

I

t’s an extremely difficult moment for caring people to watch their loved ones in pain and feel unable to do anything to help them. With this guide of ours, you’re just a few steps away from decreasing the weight of their pain and healing those friends and family members who have been suffering in silence, or loudly, and cannot find a way out.

Let them talk:

Talk them through:

To begin with, you must outline their problems and causes of pain. You must let them talk, and you must listen. You have to be patient and let them spill out all their bottled emotions without judgment. Do not interrupt them and let them feel comfortable talking to you.

After you had an overview of their problem, you need to break it into mini realities to make it easier for them to achieve healing. This also helps them see the problem less magnified and work through the phases one by one. For example, if their problem is about an unfaithful partner, you gotta analyze every stage; and try to highlight that, yes maybe, they were not fit for each other, but the relationship has helped them grow and become the person they are now. By the time you are through with this, they might end up forgetting about the betrayal and focusing more on the qualities gained from this hard experience.

Be Kind and compassionate: It is not easy to be the listening ear because you’ll be tempted all the time to jump in and point out mistakes. But this is not the right time to do it, so cool off and be compassionate to whatever they say. A person who is in pain strongly believes that they’re suffering the harshest of emotions, so _at this stage_ you just pat their shoulders and nod your head to their problems, this is all you are asked to do.

Words of admiration and motivation: When it is finally your time to speak, make sure you start with listing all their pleasant traits. Positivity is highly needed because at those hard times they can only see themselves as unhappy, unlucky and unworthy! It is your role to deliver all the positive expressions such as, “I admire your strong will”, “You have always been the sweetest “, “I love how you express yourself”, “I believe in your strength”, etc. Make sure that whatever you’re emphasizing is the quality your friend is missing the most about themselves.

Distract them now: It is now the time to distract them towards someone else’s pain. This gives them the break they need and helps them feel useful again; by caring about someone else’s problem. It is not about escaping the hardship, but you are rather showing them that life is full of problems, and we can experience all kinds of emotions. Remember that you are not a therapist, and your role is only to listen and comfort them. Do not feel obliged to solve their problems. Issues of the heart usually take longer than we expect, so if you feel that their problems are more serious than your ability to heal them, guide them to seek a professional consultant.

Do something they love: Enough with the crying and heart spilling. It is the time to watch a nice movie, visit a loved place and devour the preferred pasta. Let them choose what they want to do. If they rejected the idea, ask them to trust your surprise and take them somewhere you know will make them happy.

Caring is not about good times only. True friendships and blood bonds are truly examined in times of hardships. Be there for the ones you love and care for and guide them through whatever good there is in them. This in itself will bring you a lot of contentment and love.

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. - Napoleon Hill 92
