FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where do new students live?
New first year undergraduate freshmen interested in oncampus housing live in double occupancy units in Residence 4 (on the Health Sciences Campus) or double occupancy units in University Village (on the Forest Hills Campus). Residence 4 is a great option for new freshmen seeking a traditional dorm atmosphere. With private en suite baths, meal plans, and immediate access to the Health Sciences Student Center and Wellness Center, you can’t go wrong! University Village residence halls are great options for students who seek to live in an apartment style community with en suite kitchen and den.
How will I benefit from living on campus?
You’ll get the full college experience! Research shows that students who reside on campus are more satisfied with their college experience, perform stronger academically, and are more likely to graduate within four years than their commuting classmates.
What do students do for fun on campus?
First and foremost, we cheer on our Jaguar Student Athletes! Students also participate in a variety of campus activities, such as playing on intramural sports teams, attending campus-wide events, exercising in the Wellness Center, participating in community service, attending Undergraduate Research Brown Bag luncheons, and engaging in leadership opportunities on campus.
How does roommate-matching work?
New Freshmen: University Housing allows new freshmen to select UP TO ONE roommate match or complete the roommate matching questions during the housing application process to be matched with a roommate of their same gender. Roommate matches are not guaranteed. However, if students follow the appropriate protocols, they have a very high chance of matching with their requested roommate, as long as the request is mutual. For more information, visit gru.edu/ housing.
What is my “Roommate Passcode”?
Your personal Roommate Passcode can be found in your Residence Account. Log in by visiting gru.edu/housing and selecting “Log into your Residence Account.”
What kind of meal plan options are there on campus?
GRU offers declining balance dining plans for food services on the Summerville and Health Sciences campuses. Students who participate in the declining balance meal plan may use their JagCard like a debit card at Dining Services on campus. Students may use the declining balance dining plan on the Summerville Campus at Starbucks Coffee, Freshens Smoothies, Stacks Deli, WOW Café, Slice of Life, Simply to Go, and Allgood Café. On the Health Sciences Campus, students may use the declining balance meal plan in the Health Sciences Student Center at Starbucks Coffee, Chick-fil-A, Mein Bowl, Simply To Go, and Hissho Sushi, and the Terrace Café in the medical center. Students may also use their JagCash account on their JagCard on the Health Sciences Campus at the Subway on Harper Street, McDonald’s at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, and Charlie’s Coffee Shop at Greenblatt Library. In addition to declining balance meal plans, traditional meal plan options are offered on the Health Sciences Campus, including weekday dinner options.
How safe are the residence halls and apartments?
Residence halls and apartments are secure facilities with 24hour card/key access. All doors leading to residence hall rooms and apartments are locked 24 hours a day. Access to these areas require a key or activated JagCard issued to each student when he or she checks in at the beginning of the year. University Village Residence Halls are gated, with intruder alarms installed in each bedroom. Public Safety patrols all campus residence halls 24/7. The halls and apartments have fire alarm systems and a sprinkler system, and we strive to maintain these systems with routine checks and staff training, as well as working with Campus Public Safety for emergency response training and drills. Public Safety works 24/7/365 and is always a phone call away at 706-721-2911.
